This is a great hidden gem in Springfield. A Pakustani buffet for $20 per person - well worth it. A nice selection of biryani, niharis and kiharis - fish, chicken, beef and goat - with fresh naan brought to the table. I had not been to this restaurant in many years, since it was Abshaar. I recently stopped in for lunch on a weekday and noticed when I walked in that they offered a buffet. I actually prefer a buffet in a Pakistani joint, as it gives me the ability to try everything that they offer, as well as their cooking style. This restaurant was nice and clean, and the staff was helpful and attentive. I said I wanted the buffet and the server instantly ordered me a naan. On this date the buffet offered the typical items, such as chicken tikka, daal, chana, etc... but it also had beef keema and chicken karahi too. I came in here recently for a late lunch/early dinner. The place appears to be Pakistani as opposed to Indian since many of the pictures on the walls were of Pakistani cities such as Lahore and Islamabad. The place had a good crowd of regulars, which is always a good sign. I got the beef kabob, which came with a Greek-style salad, naan, rice, and a mango lassi. The servings were very generous; I took the other half home to eat the next day. All of the ingredients were fresh and tasty. The beef kabobs were excellent--they were spice and well marinated. The total came to about $25.00. The service was quick and friendly. The place was large and looked like it could be used for parties or special events. Keep up the great work. Two reasons I put 4 stars. 1. The service was not good. We asked for soda and our server pointed us in the direction of the soda cooler, also we were short some plates and asked for more and he pointed to the buffet and said "grab as many as you need" (yet they added a service charge before I could tip them..) 2. I don't personally care for rice. But don't advertise that it comes with the butter chicken and then not even bring it out. Like I said, i dont care for rice so its not that important for me. During weekend party a cockroach was spotted in the plate. Specifically from butter chicken. The reaction we got from on duty manager was awful. He didn't take any responsibility and walked away. After 10-15 minutes of arguments they were forced to take out the butter chicken dish. Two of the guests during party got sick and manager was no where close to be apologetic about this situation. Stay away from this restaurant because this place isn't sanitary at all. Majority of guests including myself didn't eat at all after this disgusting encounter. In total so far 4 people that I know of had upset stomach after this party. I came back here with my same group :) (dad, bro and myself). This time we opted to get the buffet. I am normally very anti buffet for many reasons! But the items they had on their buffet were some very traditional Pakistani food you typically don't find even on menus, forget being on a buffet. They had beef nihari, beef paya, haleem those things alone take forever to make with all of the prep that is needed. They also had the more traditional items like butter chicken, chicken tandoori, fish fry, chicken karahi, channa and biryani. The naams are made fresh as many as you need. Nothing was bad, some were definitely better than others! The haleem and the beef paya were on point! The nihari was really good, but I wish they had the fresh ginger and the lemon on the side. I suppose I could've asked for it but it was still good and they were busy so I didn't want to bother. All three of those things had the traditional flavors they are suppose to have. Like I said, nothing was bad, but if I have to put something at the bottom of the list, I would say the tandoor chicken. It was kinda dry. That's me being picky! We got Chai again at the end which was good. I do remember it being better the last time around. And like before, stay away from the sweets! Lol I tasted a small piece of jaleebi and it was not good. It was too chewy and sticky,not crunchy like it should be. I would probably not get sweets from here,but I didn't try anything else though. At first glance, the buffet options were impressive but after plating a scoop of rice, butter chicken, chicken Karahi.. I was quickly disappointed. Then I went onto trying the haleem, paya and fish.. the flavors were not right. Either the dishes were too lemony, salty or hot enough. Finished with gulab jamun which tasted very sour and spoiled. Don't order delivery from here! First, they don't have the complete menu, they simply call to let you know you're not getting the item and don't offer another option. Second, it took over 45 minutes to get the food and THE DRIVER LEFT THE FOOD ON THE GROUND! The driver NEVER KNOCKED ON THE DOOR AND A RACCOON ATE MY FOOD. I called the restaurant to inform them and a dismissive employee answered the phone, then I had to repeat myself to the condescending manager. I was explaining what happened and he kept interrupting me to say that he couldn't give me a refund WHEN HE GAVE ME ONE EARLIER for not having my complete order. I'm a little surprised by the bad reviews. I've been eating here for years before and after the management changed and never had a problem. My grandmother is Indian so I'd like to think I have a decent idea of what authentic food tastes like and their food tastes great to me. Ive tried their biryani, goat korma, butter chicken and their palak paneer. The man I spoke to today was helpful when I didn't know the name of the paneer and just described it to him. I have been going to his place for the last 20 years (since it was called Aabshaar). Although the ambience has improved, the quality of the food has gone down and service is terrible. I was told to wait for a Samosa platter for 10-20 minutes. At Aabshaar, it would take 2 minutes. On top of that I was told by the cashier not to put any added pressure (for quicker service) as I was placing the order. I couldn't believe he'd say that to a customer. My wife and I really like this place. The price is reasonable and the food has a good flavor to it. Normally when we go here we get one of the larger meat combos because they are relatively cheaper for the amount of food and will give you a ton of left overs. Just a heads up, the food can be a bit spicy, but that seems to be because they are not trying to 'Americanize' the flavors which i can respect. Washed my hands and used my own sanitizer right before digging in. One other diner walked in with no mask. Chicken karahi had so many bone fragments. The queema mater or some ground beef, peas, and potato sauce was decent. Tandoori chicken was a little burnt and dried. Okay first everyone has to understand this is an authentic Pakistani restaurant not some fusion style Indian or Chinese restaurant trying to appeal to the American palette. By authentic I don't mean just the food either, I mean the atmosphere and the customer service as well. Pakistani's do not understand the concept of customer service in America especially if they are immigrants. Believe me I know first hand. This is just how it is back in the homeland. If you can get past the environment and understand this, you will love the food. Des Pardes just catered my nephews wedding with 250 guests. It was impossible to get in touch with them for catering, they don't understand the concept of a catering contract, and did everything last minute. But Atif did give us his verbal promise that everything will go smoothly. As Americans, my sister and I were stressed out about whether or not they would pull through. Again, all this is very cultural. In the end, they set up the food on time and did a phenomenal job. The food was delicious and guests raved about it. At the end they even packed up the food so that we can distribute leftovers to the local homeless shelter or food bank. Most caterers don't do this!
