Pleasantly surprised by this little place. My wife and I noticed the sign while driving by and decided to give it a try. The food was very good, flavorful, fresh, and clearly made with care. My review is mainly for the take out service and the food quality which it could've be a 4 star experience, if it wasn't because we got there and they didn't receive the order (so we had to wait an extra 20 min for them to prepare it) as well they forgot our side of bread that we pay ($6 for an extra bread) as well we pay for extra white sauce, all we were given was 4 little containers (which is pretty sad to think about). As for the food, I think it's a pretty decent afghan style kebab for the price and most of the food portions (except the sauce sides which are tiny, really skimping on them). My husband really likes the grilled lamb and chicken here, so that's why we order from this restaurant, as well the bread and rice. I've had afghani bread several times, I must say this one really competes with places like Lapis and Afghan Bistro McLean, it's truly impressive! I had the tilapia kebab, needed a little bit of salt but that issue was solved when I drizzled with the green sauce! The fish was cooked nicely, the "fishy/sandy" taste that usually tilapia has, was avoided!!!! Props to them! The rice was good as for the chickpeas (that we both ordered) these are a little bit too oily for my liking, but the spices on them were good. The side salad was kind of sad to see, not going to lie, afghani salads usually will be topped with chopped parsley and thinly sliced red onions, but I guess they put the onions on top the kebab so they want to skip them. Even though the restaurant is small and probably has 5 tables total, it's not the prettiest for a sit down restaurant, the purpose is more for a takeout situation which isvery convenient for us, since we live pretty close by, so we might be coming back. read more

Today I visited Kababistan in Springfield, VA and ordered Qabuli Palaw. Unfortunately, my experience was extremely disappointing. What I received did not resemble authentic Afghan Qabuli Palaw at all. The dish was poorly presented, disorganized, and completely lacking flavor. There was barely any meat in the plate, which is unacceptable for a dish that is traditionally known for tender, well-portioned lamb or beef. Additionally, it was served without naan on the side, no proper garnishing, and no side salad -- which is normally expected with Afghan meals. The rice itself tasted bland and dry. As someone familiar with Afghan cuisine, this was far below standard and honestly disrespectful to the name "Qabuli Palaw." I expected much better quality and authenticity. Flavor in every bite! We did a pick up Saturday and got a combo platter of chicken and beef kabobs with the side of bread. The chicken was juice and tender and beef was packed with flavor. Placing the order on the phone was easy and quick, there is plenty of parking around the shopping center. The restaurant it self is cozy and has take out feel to it. I don't mind the small cozy dining as along as they keep deliver of the flavor. If you are hungry for some delish Mediterranean food, I recommend checking this place out. read more

DO NOT EAT HERE. The place has horrible staff and does not maintain cleanliness. Tables and floors are sticky while staff do not wear gloves or wash hands. I saw one person ('mohamed') who was looking through trash and then went right back to making bread with his bare hands. Other member was touching the meat (sticking it on skewer) with his raw hands as well. No visible health department or inspections certificates are available (staff couldn't show any when asked). Staff also took yogurt sauces from used customer trays (by trash) and took them back to their food station to pass out (inside large container with sauces). This is one of the best kabobs I've had in this area, especially eating it for takeout. The Food: I went with the A5. Super Combo, which included chicken, beef and lamb. The meal was incredibly delicious! The meats were incredibly tender and flavorful, which caught me by surprise. Most places that I order kabob meat from are either dry or chewy so this was definitely a nice change. The flavor of the meats was perfect and the rice was delicious as well. I am a huge fan of Kabobistan's chicken kabobs and their potatoes, but the only gripe that I have is that they're super stingy with their white sauces! The menu offers various kabobs, entrees, sandwiches, and even vegetarian options. The hubs and I always go for the Super Platter, which comes with two skewers of kabobs of your choice and a skewer of veggies. The chicken kabobs are super flavorful - I don't know what kind of marination process and spices they use, but the chicken is always super juicy, tender, and so so yummy! The veggies are always nicely grilled and are of large chunks. The white sauces that they have is almost more ranch-like; it's a little thicker, creamier, and really good with the kabobs and the veggies! The rice is pretty addicting, as it is fragrant and a wonderful complement to the veggies and the meats. For sides, I stick with the potatoes - they are almost stew-like and super addicting! Your meal also comes with a side salad and bread (that is sometimes freshly-baked or cold). The staff here, especially the grillmasters, are super friendly and have a wonderful sense of humor! I like this place - a much needed gem in that little shopping center. It's not a place you would dine in at but you could if you wanted. My review is for to go orders only. After we ordered we were offered some soup to try which was absolutely delicious. The food was really good but but it took 30 minutes to get food for dining in. There were people there who arrived after we ordered and received there food before us. There take out is very popular and busy. I don't think I will eat in again. So, I love this place but they have gotten so cheap with the portions since COVID. WTHECK. They have new people in the kitchen and at the register, customer service is seriously lacking. I miss the way they were when they first opened. What a shame. I won't be visiting them much any more. I understand restaurants took a hit during COVID but Kabobistan is still going strong. It was the worst experience ever. First they told us that the food's gonna take 30 minutes but it took them almost 45 minutes to give us the food. In one our orders there was piece of metal which almost cut my cousin's tongue. When we told them they didn't do anything. Manager immediately ran to the back office and never came back. They didn't even acknowledged that they did something wrong . When we asked for that metal piece back to take the picture they lied that they threw it away even I saw them putting on the side. I love the lamb kabob here!! The meat is so juicy and tender!! They cook it fresh so you might have to wait for at least 20-25 minutes, but the wait is definitely worth it. I have tried chicken kabob and honestly, it's a little dried for me and there was no special flavor. I would 100% do the lamb kabob to be safe because they always cook it perfectly. To be completely honest the portion is a little smaller than most other place but the quality makes up for the quantity and price. The rice and the chickpeas are decent, there was nothing special about the side salad that they give you, they also give you a big ass naan bread (I think that is what they are called). The 2 sauces that is include is pretty yummy with the rice. The service is very nice and friendly, they are very welcoming. Definitely give this place a try if you're around the area. Having friends from Afghanistan really raises your food IQ, so I have become very picky with Afghan dishes...always trying to find that authentic taste paired with quality ingredients and fulfilling quantity. I'm pleasantly surprised that this humble new establishment, Kabobistan, meets and exceeds those requirements! Truth be told, Food Corner Kabob House in Annandale has been one of the standard bearers and will continue to be...for me and my Afghan friends anyway. It is rare to find a shop that has the non-kabob Afghan dishes on the menu, and even more rare to find them both picture-perfect and delicious as well. In my case - at least with my first visit - Kabobistan knocked it out of the park. My first visit was the first week that they were open and I ordered Qabli Palau. It was easily as good as homemade, and on par with the best from Food Corner. Plenty of carrots strips and raisins on a bed of meat infused rice...properly topped with spinach and meat sauce. When done right like this, it's a perfect blend of sweet and savory that could easily be a favorite for those who have yet to try. I didn't get an opportunity to return until just now...about eight months after opening. I ordered the Chicken & Lamb combo Kabib and was pleased with the quality and taste of everything. The chicken, chickpeas and rice, were all on par with the best. The lamb too...except for one piece that was just gristle. It happens, I understand, but it was the last piece on my dish, so it put a dent on my impression. All is well and good and it's definitely going to be part of my rotation now. I should also note a couple of positives that I observed. It's a family atmosphere, and everyone is friendly and welcoming. There are also a variety of drink options and, in stark contrast to other Kabob places, several dessert options. And a note about other reviews that are less than stellar, it's true that they are not as generous with sides as many other spots. The containers are the same styrofoam containers that almost every other kabob place uses, so be prepared for spillage inside the bag...or being extra careful with handling. I did not find anything too salty...but I like flavor, some are more sensitive to that. I will happily return, but will order an extra side and probably will try their desserts next time. This is probably one of my favorite, if not, my favorite Kabob restaurant. Fights pretty closely with Moby Dick, but this might just have an edge. They have great tasting Kabob's and I would highly recommend them. Just wish they had given some more chicken for being an extra serving, you can barely tell. First time having this National dish of Afghanistan, but I think it was top notch! Very flavorful and large portion. I also ordered the combo kabob-lamb/chicken. Whoa. I have never seen such tiny chunks of kebabs in my life. 4 puny chunks of lamb and chicken each. Looked like half a skewer of each meat. I always have leftovers every time I order kebabs (or am left feeling very full), but I was left hungry for the very first time. I'm comparing this place to Ravi Kebab, Kebab Palace, Shamshiry, Kebab Corner, Dulles Kebab, Moby Dick, Sheesh and more. As far as taste, it's average or as expected. The rice was fine, the chickpeas could have been more flavorful (could have gotten a bit more here too), and the salad was like an after- thought. Bread was smaller than average and tasted ordinary. I can't say I want to go back or recommend to others since there are so so many better and more generous places out there. I ordered the chicken and lamb kebab platter. Staff is very friendly, restaurant is small, spotless with tight seating. Lamb Kabobs are fantastic, wonderful char on the outside, meaty and juicy accompanied by rice, nan and a choice of side, I chose chickpeas. The nan was spectacular, crunchy, hot and chewy at the same time, perfect vehicle for meat and for sopping excess juice from the kabob. Rice and chickpeas were good, in addition to tzatziki sauce which accompanied the kabob, each table had bottles of green and red sauce. Red sauce was my favorite, had a kick to it. While eating I saw 2 cars get towed from the fire lane, you have been warned, do not park in the fire lane, shopping center has tow company monitoring for illegally parked cars. read more
