The only reason I'm giving this place a 2 stars is because of their food. My family and I enjoyed the food completely. It was a Friday night and we called in advance to see if there would be tables. Came in and goodness, the waiter or whoever working, it was tall guy with glasses, was very rude. Not welcoming at all. It wasn't where they came to you and take your order but we had to go to the register and place the other and that's fine. My family and I were situating what we wanted and my brother went to place the order. The same tall guy with glasses took our order. After my brother finished giving the order, my brother asked if the order can be repeated to be sure he didn't miss anything. As the waiter was repeating it, my brother didn't hear one item and asked if he could repeat it again. The waiter looked so annoyed and told my brother he needs to start hearing better... my brother addressing him respectful and told the waiter to relax and they both could have a respectful interaction. We were ordering almost $300 of food so if $300 was nothing to them, we could've taken our money elsewhere and had a good time. However my parents don't eat anything but Desi hence we let it go. The food started to come out. Food looked amazing and enjoyed every bit of it, even ordered for take out. I think another thing they could work out is stop feeding customers in foam papers. The plates are so flimsy and broke on me once. The inside of the restaurant was a nice place. Definitely shows their country and heritage. After we finished eating and it was time to pay, a sweet lady at the register was helping my brother out but because there was a couple of tables with the same name, she got confused about our order. And my brother was trying to repeat the items we ordered. Then the tall guy stepped in, more attitude and rudeness. I love the food. But I would never want to sit there and be serviced in person. I rather do takeout and avoid that rude man. Other than that their food is great. Do try!! read more

This restaurant is right off of I95 in an industrial park area, so going in the evening felt a little sketchy, especially since there weren't others there when I first arrived. The lady working the counter was friendly. Their menu isn't very big and the prices were somewhat reasonable for everything, except their Karahi, which were about $10 more than other places I've seen. I tried their samosa chaat and their chicken biryani and both were decent. I took home some chickpea curry too and it was decent. Their yogurt chutney wasn't very flavorful and was way too watered down/thin/runny. Overall, it was decent, but I doubt I'd return. read more

The biryani was well-done and felt authentic with actual dried prunes/apricot rather than just colored rice. The nihari was nice with the right additions - ginger, jalapenos, etc. The only thing, which is small is I wasn't a huge fan of the tamarind chutney with the samosas. Love this place and the people!! I came here as a referral from my good friend from Pakistan. He knows that I love chicken biryani, so he sent me. The first time I stopped by I was impressed with the food and the service, but the second time I realized this place is a gem. The chicken biryani is hot and full of flavor. The nan bread is fresh and crispy. On the way I order a second CB to take home for lunch the following day. They realize they are at the bottom of the pot and some chicken is a little burnt. They do not want to sell it to me. I tell them I was fine, because it would better than my wife's cooking. However in their generosity, they decide to not charge for the "to go" plate. I just ate at this place last week for the first time. A relative of mine took me there as he spoke highly of it. If you ever has street food then this place is authentic. The owner has a place in Karachi on the street. There was absolutely no place to sit do we sat outside until a family left. If you come there on the weekend nights highly recommend you order prior to getting there. You will probably wait close to an hour for your food. First time ever having Indian food and I'm so glad it was desi! I wasn't sure what to expect when we arrived but finding the place was a bit of a challenge. We weren't exactly sure what the place looked like but after a few turns going back and forth we finally found the place. Lol. My bf has had Indian food before and based on his recommendation we went with the chicken and beef biryani (mixed rice dish). On my first bite I definitely tasted all the spices and flavors that went into the rice. It was so flavorful and aromatic that each bite made me want more! Also keep an eye out for the chili peppers. They literally put whole chili peppers in the dish and pepper corns. Another good thing is that the chicken came with the bone making the dish have more flavor to it and the beef was so tender and juicy. I went first time the food was great, 2nd time food was ok, 3rd time today we had arguments over Chutney and that with Samosa orders you don't get chutney and if you ask for little extra on the side you don't get any. The chaat is terrible this time round, the kabobs are terrible. In the beginning it was good couple time after it's gotten worst and the service has been horrible. They charge 10 % extra if you dine in but give you no service. The owner even came and did not help and was terrible to work with. The food was good and could have been a tad spicier. I didn't try the Karachi biryani, but from what I could see you get your money's worth at 6.99/plate. There is also a fish fry bar where you can pick the type of fish you would like. The server was very polite. Hole-in-the-wall located in an industrial part of Springfield, but with ample parking and seating space. Please keep in mind that the menu seen on the restaurant website is likely incorrect. Currently (as of late 2022) they have limited hours with a slightly different menu lineup each night, and the restaurant's facebook page is how to keep up with these changes. They typically post up the nightly menu a few hours prior to the restaurant's 6pm opening. The food appears to be prepared in limited quantities off-site, then brought to this location for serving until it's sold out for the evening. So remember to arrive sooner than later, I would say 7 or 7:30pm at the latest, in order to guarantee food availability. One nice thing about this model is that the food is ready almost instantaneously - no real prep work needed since everything's already been cooked and ready to go. You can see all the available dishes on display at the front counter when ordering. Service was very friendly & welcoming, the staff seem to genuinely care about how satisfied the customers are with the food. *Chicken Biryani: possibly some of the best biryani I've had around here. The basmati rice is moist, perfectly textured, and beautifully seasoned with lots of meat flavor and not overly salty. *Beef Nihari: there isn't a lot of beef meat here but the texture is quite soft and clearly simmered long enough. The meat broth is extremely savory, somewhat thick but not overly "heavy", and beautifully spiced. *Chicken Haleem: Comforting bean stew dish with bits of shredded chicken *Fried Fish: I do wish the fish had been more freshly fried as the texture was starting to become less crispy, however the the seasoning was on point. I really hope this restaurant can get their kitchen up & running at some point, but in the meantime they are serving some seriously authentic Pakistani food. They serve only a few dishes at a time, and they do them better than most restaurants in the area. Within this industrial strip of Springfield where auto repair and towing/collision services predominate, add Desi Bethak amongst the hidden culinary gems that I've stumbled across while getting work done on my vehicles (the others having been reviewed including Cervantes for coffee and Starline for Korean lunch boxes.) I'm starting to think these places are secret hangouts for shady underground activities since I just can't imagine people venturing out here strictly to eat or grab a cup of joe, unless auto mechanics and tow truck drivers have an occult reputation for being fastidiously finicky foodies. Desi Bethak specializes in Pakistani street food so there is an a la carte menu for traditional breakfast items such as chai paratha and halwa poori and their lunch specials include chicken biryani and often a stewed meat (e.g. goat curry and butter chicken) with accompanying vegetarian sides (chana masala or stewed okra). In addition to traditional kebabs and curries, there are some weekend specials and lamb brain curry for the ultra-adventurous diner. What also caught my attention was the curious "Zinger burger" which looks like a traditional fried chicken sandwich, but through a little research down the internet rabbit hole, I learned that it debuted in the streets of Karachi with equal if not greater fanfare than the Popeye's chicken sandwich when KFC franchises popped up in Pakistan and it came to represent a symbol of urban aspirations and dreams, since it was a sign of wealth to afford this luxury item of foreignness and it came to be known as the "King of All Burgers". Contrary to its name, it does not have a significant spice profile so it may appear to be an ordinary chicken sandwich to non-Pakistanis, but it has exalted significance to those from the motherland. The recipes are obviously authentic given the significant number of Pakistani yelpers who either feel instantly transformed back to the street stalls of Karachi or those who are exceedingly critical as one would expect from those devoted to a cuisine with a strong food culture. While my exposure to Pakistani food has been rather limited, I am probably somewhere in the middle since I do feel like the spice profile is rather aggressive but the flavors seem less multidimensional as I would expect given the complexity of ingredients required to prepare each dish. The biryani seems to have chicken that has been stewed separately and there is a noticeable absence of potatoes and herbs. The spicy entrees are adequately countervailed by the cool refreshing mango lassi. The ambience of the restaurant is a bit drab so I often get my food to go, but it's an unexpected snapshot of Pakistani street food in the least likely locales. read more

So we went last night from Maryland because of the reviews. We called on our way to make sure it was open and they said they were open till 9. ( it was 7 pm at the time of the call. ) When we got there at 7-45, the girl who was mopping the floor told us that they are closing at 8 and we can only order chicken karahi. Always a hit - what else is there to say? I love their food, probably one of my favorite go to places for Pakistani food in NOVA. Only two constructive feedback is the spice level tends to vary at times - been a time or two where the food was a bit too spicy for my palate (only happened with Biryani). Other feedback is during the summer, it gets very hot inside their restaurant, suggest adding additional cooling. This is by far the best Pakistani restaurant in the entire DMV area. They have the best Biryani and 8 different types of Karhai (make it 16 as they have both chicken and goat versions). Their Dhaga Kabab with Puri paratha is out the this world and you can never go wrong with their Bihari kabab. If you like brain masala, this is the place for you. It's nice and spicy - appears to be cooked fresh. Check your order if you get carry out. They forgot my rice...... REALLY. The area is very industrialized and you get tired of the same old over priced eateries in the area. Good for when you want something different. It's all based in chicken, vegetables, lamb and beef.
