Wasn't impressed and believe they can do better and be more customer service oriented. Food was disappointing and bland.

Traditional (milk) tea

The food here is so good! My Bangladeshi wife and I come here anytime we visit the DC area. We usually get the chicken roast since the sauce (jhool) is so flavorful. They also have traditional Bangladeshi tea (cha) that my wife is a big fan of! The owners are very friendly and welcoming with us, and with other costumers.

Rubber paneer and Chicken Roast oil

Called and asked specifically if biriyani was available and after placing the order, 20 minutes later we were told they don't have biriyani???? Went with another option but very very bad quality and experience. Left after having 2 spoons of rice The paneer was rubber and the gravy was yuck. Chicken was bones as if they specifically put the leftover pieces. Honestly super dissatisfied ‍

Beef Tehari
Nazmul H.

DISAPPOINTED!!! I tried their kacchi biriyani and tehari. Kacchi biriyani was trash and in tehari they just put literally 2 Tiny pieces of bones. Check out the picture. And all was some polau rice with heavy rose water. It felt like I was eating rice with rose water as gravy. Tried their Muglai parata. That was somewhat good. Would never ever go back. Fuchs is horrible. Microwaved chotpoti very bad.

Kacchi Biryani
Snayha S.

As soon as you walk in, it smells like home cooked Bengali food which is lovely and very fitting given their name. My family ordered the kachi biryani, teheri, paratha, chicken samosa, and butter chicken. The food was made very quickly and everything was delicious. I will definitely be coming back again :)

I have been to this place number of times and my best friend being a Bengali, I have come to know their food and appreciate the flavors. As per him it's not common to have a Bangladeshi or Bengali restaurant and thus this restaurant holds significance. Over the years their food quality has gone downhill. Food has become more, greasy and unhealthy. One or two times I ordered Rui fish and I felt cold inside the fish giving me an indication that they take it out of refrigerator and just warm it. Even if they warm it, they could do a better job. Sometimes the Rui fish even smells. My stomach was upset last time I ate there. I was really fond of this place but I guess the owner don't care. Apart from the not so good food, the service is near pathetic and parking is bad too. This restaurant had so much potential but I am so disappointed.

fuchka and mughlai paratha
Farah K.

I'm maybe biased because I love fuchka a LOT and the pale in comparison panipuris found all over MoCo don't really compare. So needless to say I gobbled it up. The Mughlai paratha was amazing, one basket is enough for 2-3 people, depending on your appetite. We took some goat biryani and chicken roast home for dinner, which I found okay (I'm just not a general fan of these items) but my family seemed to really enjoy it. The food and the prices all get 5 stars. Yes there's oil, but that's just how Bangladeshi food is prepared sorry. The interior is really tiny though, and they don't seem to have proper utensils laid or anything of that nature. But I suppose since they are focused on catering more, that sort of makes sense..? Still a little more attention paid to adding more space/servers and attention to details, and it'd be a whole star better.

Inside the restaurant
Jayati A.

It's been a long time since I've had Bangladeshi snacks and street food like chotpoti, fuchka. I looked at their menu online and was sold. The inside of the store was clean to my relief (something I value these days). I brought fuchka, chotpoti, shingaras, daal puris and moglai porotas home. I devoured the fuchkas in one go and started with the chotpoti, then I had to remind myself to save some for later, since it was late at night. Love the tamarind sauce that comes with it, reminds me of home. We have yet to try the other food like biriyanis and bhortas. These snacks made me so happy.

These are our go-to orders, watch we supplement with other entrees in a dinner order for more than 2 people. Thus far, we have tried chicken korma, shrimp jalfrezi, salmon tikka masala, and various vindaloos and biryanis. All were adequate, with the jalfrezi being the least impressive and the vindaloo being the most (good balance of heat and flavor). But the star of the menu is the lamb bhuna. The lamb is succulent and the sauce is perfectly spiced to match the lamb - and the quantity of the meat and sauce are in good proportion to each other. This dish will be on our order from here on out. Some tips: don't order extra rice; all saucy entrees come with a generous portion of rice (even for a rice fiend like me). But DO order extra chicken tikka to supplement the (at times a little meager) amount of fish or salmon in saucy dishes. Also, the chefs' method of adding heat to "extra spicy" requests is to add chunks of hot peppers to the dish - I don't prefer this, but you might. Order accordingly.

I like their chicken a lot because they don't over do it with the sauce. And I really like the naan. When I took it back home as some leftover, it crisped up perfectly and had great flavor. The momos are the item my wife loves the most and glad to say they are still great. I did order a mango lassi and it was tasty. The server was attentive and good came out pretty quickly. I liked the little flowers they had on the tables. Wish it had a tad bit more volume but can't complain. Great spot to grab a lowkey tasty dinner. Wish other places made momos like them.

MANGO LASSI - 5 Pretty sizable glass, but I thought it was way too sweet so I didn't even finish half of the drink. However, the texture and consistency was on point. ASSORTED BREAD - 11 We got this because we wanted a lot of bread for our table of 5, but personally I only enjoyed the garlic naan out of the three bread options (garlic naan, butter naan, and roti). CHICKEN TIKKA MASALA - 20 The chicken tikka masala was tangy and creamy, but also much too sweet. I wish they let the sweetness of tomatoes shine through, but they definitely added a lot of sugar in the curry. The chicken was cooked well, at least. BUTTER CHICKEN - 20 The butter chicken is a bit more orange in color compared to the chicken tikka masala, and also much more savory and even creamier. Personally, I liked this one more, and I had no complaints with the flavor. I would recommend this if you're looking for a staple. PALAK PANEER - 19 I am a huge palak paneer fan and so is one of my teammates. The curry was a deep evergreen color with lots of paneer chunks. It was spiced pretty nicely and the texture was more smooth than chunky. I personally really enjoyed this and would recommend it for the spinach and cheese lovers! CHICKEN MOMO - 12.50 Each order came with 10, which meant 2 per person! The chicken momos were delicious, and I enjoyed them. This would be a great appetizer to share with a group, but getting it for yourself as an entree is not a bad idea. People also enjoyed the LAMB ROGAN JOSH, but I personally didn't eat much of it enough to comment. There are plenty of beer, wine and cocktail options that my teammates enjoyed. Four entrees, a bread basket, and an appetizer was more than enough for the five of us, and we didn't pay a pretty penny for all of it. The food was fine for the most part, but some missed the mark. If I were to return, I would order the butter chicken, palak paneer, chicken momo, and garlic naan for the group.

A concerted effort towards variety is evident, with distinct proteins and vegetarian choices in specific curries/sauces creating a beautifully balanced array of different colors. I love this. (An example of the opposite: When there's a paneer tikka masala AND a chicken tikka masala on a buffet - I don't count these as being 2 different entrées.) Saffron is way better than the musty neighbor Haandi Indian across the street. A long time local recommended Haandi over Saffron and I believe she must have lied to me about having tried Saffron, because there is absolutely no comparison. Saffron is wayyy better. There is actually flavor and attitude in the dishes at Saffron. Haandi is boring and bland. Pro tip: ask for your naan bread "crispy" and it will come out nice and toasted. Naan is included with the lunch buffet. Would be 5 stars if it were $15. $22 can get you AYCE made-to-order sushi lunch down the street, so $20 for Indian buffet lunch here seems all-the-money. Delicious, though! Oh and another possible star deduction reason: I saw a few stains on some tablecloths at Saffron that appeared to be days-old from not being changed or noticed. This is a "glass top on top of red tablecloth" kind of place. They need to get rid of the tablecloths if they're not changing them with each customer.

For $20 I found the buffet reasonable but it did seem slightly smaller than their sister locations one. Seating is quite tight in this location and you do sit almost on top of each other. I echo another reviewer- some of the items were bland, especially the saag paneer, that lacked flavor at all. The spicy meatballs were the only thing with a kick but would have loved to see more consistent spice. I also was a bit disappointed in the naan- it didn't seemed buttered at all and was very dry for some reason. Service and staff super friendly and decent food for the price but needs more kick to beat the Saffron Ashburn location.

The ambience and the store itself is nothing to write home about, but the food. The masala dosa (spicy potato stuffed crepe) is great, and probably one of the few places in north Arlington to get this South Indian standard, and the Chana masala (chickpea curry) is just hands down one of the best - one of our favorite places to get this in our household. The fresh refrigerator section is great and I've loved getting the fresh okra, fresh eggplant, fresh cilantro, etc. here. My other favorite is the shelf with the selection of different kinds of mixture--mmm love Indian mixture. It is a small store with a lot crammed in so it can be challenging to maneuver the aisles. Luckily when people come in here, they're grabbing what they need and are coming in and out quickly, so you're never on top of anyone for too long. The adjacent restaurant is overall decent. I've ordered a bunch of times from here and the food can be hit or miss. The idly sambar and vada sambar are solid and there's no one else in the Arlington area where you can find those (or I haven't yet...) so whenever my South Indian tastebuds get their craving, I know I can satisfy here. I called in a large carryout order today for $90 worth and was sad to come home to see 1 of the sambars missing and all of the rices that were supposed to accompany the chicken 65, bindi masala, and channa masala missing. Also the chicken biriyani was off--it seemed like it wasn't cooked thoroughly and tasted stale. Also the chicken 65 is nothing like how it's made in India--it was kind to be in a gravy, instead of little fried chicken pieces which is what the menu described. I ordered everything to be mild but some of the items were really spicy. When Indian food is spicy and done right, the flavors come through bold and delicious, but when it's not done right, it's just not enjoyable. Normally I'd just eat a little more raita/yogurt and move on, but part of the meal was supposed to be for my kids who are not spice tolerant. I called the manager who surprisingly was awesome and understanding, and processed a refund for me immediately and apologizing for the issue a few times. Because of the great customer service, I'd continue coming back here.

Palak paneer is my comfort option when I want something creamy but vegetarian. Each order comes with 16 oz. of curry and 16 oz. of basmati rice. The palak paneer was flavorful with a good amount of spice, and the puree was the perfect texture. There was plenty of paneer which was light in flavor, but delicious. It was a bit saltier than I'd like, but this palak paneer is reliable. I would definitely get it again. My friend got the garlic naan which came in a generous portion. It was very garlicky with lots of parsley which was absolutely delicious. The naan was on the thinner and crispier side, and went well with the palak paneer. The butter chicken my friend got was pretty creamy and lightly sweetened, which was promising. Overall, the food was pretty good, and I'd order from here again!
