Mostly all a sushi restaurant needs from me to get at least 4 stars is phenomenal fish quality; Ako gets it mostly for that. I had a hot seabass kebab app, and then several pieces of a-la-carte sashimi (if you're curious, specifically hamachi, kampachi, o-toro, and ika). Everything was exactly as it should be. I'm a bit of a traditionalist, so the presentation was a bit... uh, not to my aesthetic? Also, oddly annoying, but apart from bottom-barrel house sake, they don't serve sake by the glass! Super disappointing, although granted -- a nitpick. The service would've been acceptable if the place was super busy (which, it wasn't), but the prices are definitely a draw, so if I have a sushi craving, I'll probably swing by again. Also, the back yard seems cute as hell with nice low-key romantic lighting; would love to go back again in warmer weather. read more

Excellent service and great food . Our server, Santi, was kind, professional, and hard working.

Ako Sushi hit the spot perfectly. After a long day in Brooklyn we were seated quickly and served right away. The food was impeccable and I would recommend it to anyone who is looking to get sushi in Williamsburg! read more

Popped into Ako for some hot sake on a cold afternoon. They were welcoming and gracious, seating us at a table, despite the fact that we weren't eating. The ambience, service and sake were top-notch. Decided to order a green-tea tiramisu, which was home-made, amazingly beautiful and super delicious! The sushi passing by was creatively presented and looked enticing. We'll definitely come back for sushi soon! read more

Great sushi, free ice cream with check in. Top notch service, very fast food came. I would come again.

Cutest little sushi place in Brooklyn! My boyfriend and I came in on a rainy day and enjoyed their lunch specials and Japanese beer! Great service and amazing food :) read more

This was my first time at this restaurant. The food was absolutely amazing. So tasty! We had dumplings and fried calamari. The sweet sauce that comes with the calamari is a MUST. The service was great! The waiters and waitresses checked up on us multiple times to ensure that we were enjoying our meal. I would 100000% recommend. Will definitely be back. Thank you so much, Ako Sushi! read more

The sushi was very fresh and tasty. It was clear that the chefs used high quality fish. Ako has a great selection of sake as well. Overall wonderful experience. read more

I like the atmosphere here. My server was nice. Also, the food. It's one of my favorite places around Bedford av.

The back patio is the best thing about this place. Sushi is average at best. The avocado in my avocado tuna roll was rock hard...not ripe! How difficult is it to find a ripe avocado...or not be able to tell an avocado isn't ripe enough to eat/serve. The avocado issue aside...the sushi is fine but nothing special. Better options out there for sure. read more

my first time to this place backyard is cool but kind of alot of mosquito bites. The ikamaru is cook well with nice presentation. read more

Excellent Japanese restaurant in the heart of Williamsburg. Much more than, it offers a wide array of quality Japanese dishes, and just as good, drinks! I keep coming back here. Great vegetarian dishes, by the way. read more

I came in to eat alone and loved the ambiance! Also AMAZING happy hour deals. You can't find $7 wine anywhere and $5 gyoza. That's a GREAT after work dinner! Thanks Ako :) read more

Me and my friend ordered seafood udon, fried calamari and it was nice. Service was good as well.

A perfectly decent Japanese restaurant clone with kind and attentive service which I turned to when every other option was denied me. I had the beef sukiyaki. It was a bit too tart and didn't have quite enough beef, I think, but was otherwise fine and came with soup, tea, and rice. I don't rate these sorts of places too highly, because I find so much Japanese food in the US to be overpriced and under-interesting. There is some idea here that Japanese = expensive, when so much traditional Japanese cooking is about as sophisticated as Chinese take out. If I come across something truly special, like Kyo Ya or Mt. Fuji, that's another story. But Ako is your basic, predictable, totally adequate Japanese restaurant. Nothing to write home about (in fact, why am I even writing this?), but perfectly fine if you just feel like having Japanese. Not, that is, a destination. Cute waitresses, though. read more

I feel like the fact that I visited Ako months ago, but still haven't been able to come up with anything magical to say, kindof speaks volumes. In fact, I probably wouldn't have even written a review if not for the fact that Yelp keeps taunting me to write one every time I open the webpage. So FINE, Yelp Powers That Be! FINE!! This is a good sushi bar. It doesn't really stand out as anything special, but you won't have anything bad to say about it either. End scene. read more

To the owner, what are the details of how the fish is frozen? Who freezes the fish to kill the parasites? The market? Your staff said they don't freeze the fish they receive. I am looking for a new spot but until I know the specifics I have this as a 3 star to get your attention. Ill be happy to raise it when you tell me the details of where the fish comes from and if its frozen. If this fish is being served straight out of the ocean without being frozen thats not healthy at all. Huge risk if thats the case. read more

We came here with a party of 5. Service was excellent, food was great. The spider roll was delicious and the sake was on point. 10/10 would eat here again read more

I seldom go to Williamsburg. That day, I happened to be in the area. When passing by Ako, the "lunch special" sign outside the restaurant caught my eye. Lunch special on a Saturday? Sounded great already! Sushi is delightful. Friend ordered a lunch box - comes with sashimi, rolls and salad. Good deal. read more

Came here yesterday. Tuna Tataki was good. Recommend to order. Chef special sashimi was not fresh. Didn't finish them. Can get free ice cream if you check in there. But the server took my phone and checked that I think was weird. Not willing to come again. read more

Enjoy the restaurant and online purchases. Very pleased with sushi quality. Great deals for happy hour!

Ako is delicious! The lunch special is amazing, a bento box for 9.50 and its delicious. Fresh fesh, great rolls and wonderful service.

Great lunch specials here every day of the week till 4 pm. $8 gets you miso soup, ginger salad, and 2 rolls. The rolls are the more basic options - California roll, philly roll, etc but there's a good variety. I usually get the crunchy spicy salmon roll and the tuna avocado roll with my lunch special, which are both great. Everything is very fresh tasting here. And they even have an outdoor garden seating area in the back for those nice summer days. read more

Ako is very around the corner from my place and while it's not anything spectacular as far as Japanese cuisine goes, I am giving 4 stars because it is always reliable, tasty, and fresh, service is always good as well. WAY better than Mizu across the street. And I am not sure of other Japanese places in the area that serve sushi anyway. I've tried everything from their menu more or less and I've never had a bad meal here. I also order in from them frequently. They've got a nice little outdoor garden area behind the place too. And prices are affordable. read more

Just finished eating here. I ordered the Chilean Sea Bass. It was ok. He ordered the chicken tempura. You can tell it was frozen and reheated in the fryer. Served with wax paper on the bottom of the plate, which was soggy and ripped into pieces as the tempura was eaten. Staff was unfriendly. Had the attitude that they wanted us to eat, pay and leave in a hurry. Not coming back. read more

Service and staff were great -- the review is for the food as though it was presentable, the flavors and tastes were bland and boring. I eat a lot of sushi. I hope they can improve because this place has a lot of potential and has very nice decor. read more

Came here for New Years Eve and had a great experience. The service and the sushi were excellent. They had an extensive menu of sushi and main courses (fish, fried rice, etc) and were very reasonably priced. It's a great place to go for dinner before going out. read more

Great fresh sushi and friendly, prompt service--that's saying a lot for Williamsburg.

Ako is an above-average sushi joint on the main drag of Bedford Ave, so it's a reliable stop if you need some take out or want to just sit down for a bit. The sushi isn't out of this world, but it's good, and it's reasonably priced. There's nothing here that has blown me away thus far (although the Spider Rolls are quite good) but I've eaten here enough times to know it's always going to be a decent meal. read more

looks like any little sushi place but they really suprised me. the quality was very good and the special, giant scallop sashimi served in its shell was fantastic. It was also great that the server was excited by the special and really seemed to care about the food and the quality. its a nice touch when the people working there seem to really like what the place is doing. ill be back the next time i need sushi in the burg read more

Wonderful place. Amazingly fresh and delicious Sushi. Great atmosphere and lovely service. Not too pricey either.

Stick to the sushi. Their entrees aren't that exciting and leave something to be desired. My dining companion and I agreed that they were akin to heating up a frozen meal. read more

If you are Asian or eat quality sushi, this place sucks. Fushimi quality is better (but still not great). Both Ako and Fushimi are Chinese-run. Two stars because of nice ambiance and outdoor seating. Sushi on par with Sakura 6 and Wasabi in Greenpoint. I really feel like everyone saying the sushi is good has never eaten decent sushi before. read more
