This is my favorite sushi in all of Brooklyn. I've been coming here for years with my aunt and uncle and now that I live in the neighborhood - Ako is my go-to spot. The lunch specials are amazing and the service is spectacular (particularly if you order online - always comes earlier than expected) read more

Great neighborhood Japanese - solid sushi, donburj, lunch specials, and overall quality of food. We order from here regularly

Food is great. Price is awesome. Service is terrific. It was a good time. If you are by yourself, it is a good place to eat too. The patio is awesome for a group! Loved my experience here! read more

This has become my once a week regular go to restaurant, and when you live in a neighborhood full of awesome choices that's saying a lot. This place is 100% consistent with food quality (fresh and generous portions of fish), always a great, warm, calm, and uplifting vibe, and honestly a great value for the quality and portions served. They also happen to be super patient and even welcoming with my loud 15 month year old son, and also welcome my outgoing Yorkie on their patio (has a light covering with heaters when it's cold out). Grateful for a spot like this! read more

Had a great meal with my little one at AKO the beef negmaki was good and the sushi Variety platter for one was big enough for too. The service was fast and friendly. Had a nice time. Only drawback was it to 20 minutes to get the check in such a small location it gets busy and full quick and it was hard for them to keep up with a small staff. read more

The owner it's Cheeky, Cheeky, I had hair in the food I asked to have it replaced and he refused even though I showed it to him instead of having hair. I am disappointed and warn you that if your food is with bacteria or hairs you will not get a refund !! read more

Ako - Receipt - Sushi Bars Near Me - Brooklyn, New York

Delicious sushi but they are overwhelmed with orders. I got some takeout and was told 10-15 minutes as I just ordered rolls but ended up waiting 45. Not because the rolls weren't made right away, but because they just sat by the sushi bar and they didn't package it or give me my bag until I complained that it was taking too long. They're super focused on taking care of the people dining there and are letting takeout orders slide by. read more

Found this place through yelp. I skipped the questionable reviews. Here is my verdict: I'm very picky when it comes to seafood. This is a fine sushi establishment. I ordered the spicy tuna which satisfied my seafood cravings as well as a California. Recommend this to anyone whos in the area looking for a bite. read more

One of my favorite Japanese restaurants and I really wished I lived closer to Williamsburg! The staff is super nice and the food is always delicious. I like to order the Nabeyaki Udon and Seafood Soba soup especially when it is cold outside. The shumai and the shrimp rolls are pretty good appetizers to start off with as well. Every entree comes with a soup or salad and the portions are great. I always have leftovers. This restaurant is a must try if you are in the area! read more

I stumbled upon this hidden gem and was blown away. Came back the next day I couldn't resist! Sushi is so fresh and the staff are so nice and make the experience even better. this is my new go to place couldn't recommend more!! read more

AMAZING SUSHI! incredibly fresh! Stumbled across this restaurant for a lunch special. Three rolls, $12. Lunch special comes with a soup and salad (love that). Staff was hospitable, down to earth, kind. Restroom was clean, patio is gorgeous. Doesn't smell like fish in here. Great sign. read more

Amazing quality! Ordered online and it came on time. The freshness of all the ingredients is noticeable and really great umami as well!

It's fine. Better than an average supermarket, but not as soon as excellent super market sushi -- hell Whole Foods is definitely on par with this place. Stuff that comes out of the kitchen is better than the stuff that comes out from the sushi counter which is odd as it does look like a place has good enough of a turn over that nothing should sit long enough not to be one to two days old fish. Definitely skip uni. read more

I was looking for a nice sushi place and Ako immediately caught my eye with the ad, check-in offer and nice pictures. My boyfriend and I sat down in the little garden in the back, with cute lights above our head. We ordered the sushi and sashimi selection for two, which - as you can see on the picture - looked and tasted great. The Ako special sushi with mango was the one that really took it to the next level. I wanted to get the check-in offer for dessert, but unfortunately there wasn't free Wi-Fi. No problem! The nice lady (I guess she's the manager) suggested to give us the offer on the house since I told her we discovered the restaurant through Yelp. The entire staff was friendly, the food is good and the prices are very reasonable. I really recommend this place if you want to eat sushi in Williamsburg. read more

I don't think I even realized how much food we ate here until I started uploading all of the photos. Ha. After the World Cup finals and way too many drinks, Stephy and I stumbled into this place on the way back to trying to find that oh so elusive g train. We were starving and very tipsy. The outdoor garden area was lovely and the twinkly lights created a great ambiance. However, there was nothing special to write home about the food. The sushi wasn't the freshest. Which is probably the biggest no no for me. The apps we ordered were lackluster. Highlight for sure was ordering the fried ice cream, which wasn't my idea to begin with. But great idea. Shumai ($5.50) & Gyoza ($5.50) - Both small and unimpressive dumpling apps but I usually expect that from most sushi restaurants. Not enough filling and not very satisfying. I finally figured out the third app we ordered - Crispy Soft Shell Crab in a sweet sake chili sauce ($8.50) - Definitely the best of the three and more decadent with both a coconut sweet and savory spicy crunch. For sushi I ended up getting a Philadelphia, Spicy Tuna, and an avocado roll and was fairly disappointed. The fish didn't stand out and it tasted 'old'. There's no other way to explain it. I'm usually not picky about fresh fish in sushi either. The spicy tuna roll wasn't spicy either as my friend that can't eat anything spicier than Cholula sauce exclaimed that it was pretty lame. Steph ended up ordering the Chicken Katsu with a side of miso soup. ($12) It wasn't anything outstanding but decent. She was disappointed because it didn't mention having vegetables in the dish and I'm pretty sure she's allergic. (Joke) Anyway, the night was redeemed with the sake and the fried ice cream ($5). Beautiful presentation with a little twirly cookie nestled on top and it tasted amazing. However, I think this place is a little bit over-priced for what it is and definitely needs to amp up their sushi products. Also, there are much better foody options in Wburg for this place to contend with. read more

Ako gets 4 stars and props (and I'm pretty stingy with my 4-star reviews these days). The sushi was tasty and presented with care. The style of presentation wasn't really my thing (lots of glass and ice and cutesy designs), but I was definitely impressed that they put the effort into it. The staff was super-attentive and very amenable to my request that they alter my dishes to leave the masago and tobiko out--I'm off of all forms of raw fish for the next few months, but I can rock some cooked ingredients. You're not going to get the same rich flavor sensations that you'd have at Bozu or Zenkichi, but you're also not going to pay as much as you would there for the same quantity of food. Awesome holdovers from Wasabi: the 2-3 roll lunch specials plus free hot sake with supper (which I also had to decline, but my husband seemed to enjoy). Awesomer new policy: Lunch starts at 12:30 Monday-Thursday. YES! One of my most irritating frustrations about living in this neighborhood is that the Bedford Ave-North 6th sushi joints don't open for lunch until 1, so I often end up going to Red Bowl or Peter's when I really want sushi because they're open. Nice call, Ako! read more

Walking in we were honestly just starving and looking for some Asian food. the backyard area is a MUST especially on a beautiful spring day like today. The Gyoza, grilled shrimp and Softshell crab appetizers were delicious! I got the shrimp fried rice = BOMB and my best friend got the Eel Avocado roll (melt in your damn mouth) and the spicy Tuna roll. Everything was really fresh and you forget you're around a bunch of buildings a with the surrounding trees and the relaxed vibe. It was a delightful meal! read more

So updating this review for the sole reason that I put this up only to get a free dessert. Went here again the other day and got the bento box that comes w miso. The miso soup tasted like dirty soup water to the point where I had to put some soy sauce to it and the sushi was not fresh at all--saw them microwaving a lot of the sushi before they served it Got my bento box wasn't impressed at all and i asked for the spicy mayo on the side. The waitress said something to the sushi chef and he looked like I was crazy while they were laughing Like is asking for a side of spicy mayo so funny? Overall not a good experience especially when they bribed half of these recent reviews for free desserts. It's crap. Not fresh. Bad food. Rude. read more

Had a great time here with my best friend. Food and vibe was great. Definitely will return

I haven't written a review in 6 years and have only ever given two 1 star reviews in my life but this is necessary for the well-being of the Greater North Brooklyn area. Last night my girlfriend and I decided to check out Ako for the first time ever. We love sushi but still haven't found a good go to spot in North Brooklyn so we put in an order for this. Part of my order was a rainbow roll which was recommended in another post here. After eating one piece something caught my eye on the other. It was a TINY WORM! I've never seen this in my life so I immediately googled it and it is called an Anisaki worm https://www.cdc.gov/parasites/anisakiasis/. They are very common in Japan but are rare in the United States and are no joke. If one of these enter your body you will experience violent nausea and violent abdominal pain as your body tries to remove it. You may even have to have surgery to have it removed. No thanks! I will be taking a vacation from sushi after seeing this and a permanent vacation from Ako after this experience. read more

Went here last night after making a reservation for 4. We got an outdoor table and it was ready when we arrived. They had heating lamps but it was still pretty cold unfortunately. Service was really great as staff was very friendly and never let our water glasses be empty! I ordered the seafood dynamite roll. It was great, it tasted fresh and the spicy mayo and sauce on top was so good. We also got pork gyoza and beef negamaki, both were excellent and really flavorful. We got the beef udon soup which was okay, a little bland for my taste. For dessert we got fried vanilla ice cream. It was really yummy, not soggy like most places and not so overly greasy. Overall had a great meal and experience. read more

This is my first time here, longing for sushi and sashimi for quite a while. Our group of two ordered a sushi and sashimi for 2 set, which has 15 sashimi, 8 nigiri sushi and 3 kinds of rolls in total. The salmin sashimi was fresh and fatty, but the tuna lacked flavour. Maybe it's already 9:30 am, the sushi rice was a bit dry and stuck together. But overall this is above average nigiri sushi. We order umeshu soda and nigiri. The umeshu soda tasted ok at first but was soon diluted. The nigiri (cloudy sake) was smooth. read more

Stopped by for a quick bite. Usually in any sushi place I look for a quality of the fish they serve. If the fish if frozen or not exactly fresh places would use sauces to cover it up. This is not the case here. Sashimi was fresh so were the rolls follows by a bottle of Prosecco. Which worked out great especially on a warm fall day on the backyard terrace. read more
