This is my favorite restaurant ever. Period. I've probably ordered and eaten from here over 100 times over the past few years. My mom and I have been coming here for years, and the staff already knows us! Every single time I eat here the food is good. My favorites are: Shrimp tempura roll Beef Teriyaki Bento Agedashi Tofu Salmon Mango Roll Crunchy Spicy Salmon Roll Noodle Soup (with udon) Everything always tastes amazing. It's my go-to for ordering out or meeting someone for a lunch date. Their bento boxes are great in size and portions, and for $13 I am always very full and happy! In my opinion they are the best place to get Japanese in the neighborhood. And I've been to the other places. No shade tho. Anyways please support them whenever you can. They are such nice people and the food is great and the restaurant has a great ambiance and their backyard seating is adorable. Only thing is that in the summer the backyard has mosquitos . But that's literally my only complaint. They play good throwback pop music too which is always fun to hear. I stopped by during COVID-era too. They are very safe and clean. I love you Ako!!!! If you're looking for good sushi and amazing Japanese food, go to Ako. I've been coming to Williamsburg to eat for a long time and have always overlooked Ako - until now. Do not miss this place. We ate every bite of the food and everything was perfect. The spicy mango salad was our favorite starter, and the gyozas and the tuna tataki were also amazing. For sushi we had the tuna salmon twister roll and the golden dragon (mango) roll - both were incredible. We ended the meal with the fried cheesecake which is as indulgent as it sounds. We came here on a Friday night and it seemed super busy so it was alarming. Our order was taken right away but took awhile to get to the table. We ordered the spicy roll combo which was not spicy at all as well as the red hot dragon roll. We didn't care much for the combo rolls as it tasted too bland but enjoyed the hot dragon roll instead. I don't know how how I feel about this place yet as the sushi rolls were nothing special and I love sushi. I might have to give it another try on a much quieter day. read more

I ordered lunch specials from here through Caviar. The sushi rolls were good and fresh (had to squeeze some lemon on the yellowtail). I haven't tried the miso soup because I usually use it to cook other things. The only down side is that it took a little over an hour to get to me. read more

Ako is my favorite place to go to in the neighborhood. Solid lunch specials. Bento boxes are good. Sushi is good. Atmosphere is very relaxed and casual. Nice outdoor backyard space that's great for when the weather is nice. Been in the neighborhood for lots of years and I've probably been going since '09. With the constantly changing Bedford Ave great to have this restaurant in the burg. Service is some of the most attentive and friendliest you'll find. Hendy is the best, although they're really all good. Going to ako is like having an extension of your living room with a bonus backyard. Almost like home. I received a delivery order with a piece of hair on the chicken... understandable things happen. I open up the rice and I find a second hair!!! 2 hairs for the price of 1.. I call up Seamless and AKO REFUSED A REFUND!!! I offered to go to the restaurant to bring it back and the restaurant refused to give me any money back!!' DELICIOUS! Never a fan of miso soup until AKO's rendition of it. Their presentation was superb, service was beyond courteous, ambiance was magnificent and BYOB pushes my recommendation to the top. I decided to try this restaurant after purchasing a discount dining certificate. Upon arrival I realized I had in fact ate at this restaurant whilst under a different name-Wasabi. Dining certicate was easily accepted, and even without, the prices were reasonable. Our meal was wonderful and there was a major improvement with new ownership. Good quality food is a must in all cusines, however even more so when eating sushi. AKO sushi is actually a small gem in Williamsburg... I enjoyed the relaxing vibe this space gives upon entering: light neutrals throughout and small delicate fresh flowers on tables for decor. They have a selection of wines, sakes, beers & other beverages.The prices are also good and affordable for sushi. I ordered spicy salmon rolls w/brown rice, a couple of yellowtails & salmon shashimi (2 come in an order). Let me tell you, for some reason i was so pleasantly surprised. Everything ordered was fresh and smooth- i mean like a buttery feeling ya'll, the whole way through. The spicy salmon had excellent flavor and the sashimi pieces were eaten slowly. I definaly wanted to enjoy every bite and i did! I finished a meal with mochi- a fav for me & the temperature & texture on this was perfect -not rock solid. It was cold enough for the creamy ice cream, but soft enough to cut through its gummy shell... The sweetness on these were also just right.... What a delight!!! Let me caveat this review by saying the folks who work here are absolute genuine sweethearts. The only reason this place did not get one star was because the service has been wonderful the one time I ate in and the one time i picked up a delivery. As for the food - I really wanted to like this place. it is right near my apartment and i was in search of a solid sushi spot. However, the quality of the rolls are subpar. We ordered three maki rolls - salmon avocado (fine), yellowtail jalapeno (terrible - had massive chunks of pickled jalapenos, the kind you find on domino's pizza, rather than a few slivers of fresh pepper - all you could taste was vinegar and jalapeno, could not finish the roll), and spicy crunchy tuna (so unappetizing, an artificial died red with the texture of beef tartare put into a blender). It is a shame - they could charge a buck or two more and provide fish that looks and tastes and has the texture of fish in their rolls. I understand spicy tuna is already a "fake" sushi roll but at least have the ingredients resemble what it is. read more

Anyone who has ever eaten out in Williamsburg knows how ridiculously expensive it can be for rustic, hipster food, even sushi places. Well, Ako is not one of them. I think one of the previous reviews calls Ako "no frills" which is the best way to put it. Plainly, this sushi bar smack dab in the hustle and bustle of Bedford Ave serves excellent food without the painful price tag. Came in for dinner after a cycling class on a weekday with a friend, and were immediately seated in their backyard patio area, which is so relaxing on a nice July evening. Our server was super prompt and accommodating. I ordered a ginger ale, the Philadelphia roll ($6), sweet potato tempura roll ($4.5) and crunchy spicy tuna roll ($6) which is REALLY cheap for sushi in Williamsburg (and NYC). Waited maybe 10-15 minutes for it come out, and then pretty much scarfed it down. It was delicious, my favorite being the sweet potato tempura. **Make sure to check in to get a free scoop of green tea ice cream!** The inside is really cute and comfortable too, lots of beautiful wood and a relaxing ambiance. Ako quickly became one of my favorite sushi spots in Williamsburg. Check it out if you're looking for good sushi without sacrificing body parts. read more

We had the calimari and gyoza as aps, both were good but the calamari was a little over cooked. The sushi and sashimi were extremely fresh. Grubhub and AKO are a rip off. Ako charges extra for items but delivered the ordinary crap. It cost extra for rice on the outside! What a ripoff. Also Grub hub steals extra money by calculating tip on service fees and sales tax. This is illegal in New York State. read more
