Since the last time I was here, Ahso has made alot of improvements. Came on Sunday and they had live energetic music and made alot of modifications to their ambiance. Staff is well trained and food is great. Def worth checking out. Prices are still higher than market value of other competitive restaurants in the area but dining experiences makes it worth the it. To capitalize on space in bar area would recommend they add a few extra tables in bar area (where live music plays) during days when there's isn't live music and remove them when they have live music. read more

I have very mixed feelings about AhSo. Husband and I came here for our anniversary and when they asked in the reservation if it was a special occasion, I just wrote down it was our anniversary. They were very nice about wishing us a happy anniversary, which was wonderfully sweet. And maybe I would have liked the place more if we'd come at a different time, but when you go to any restaurant and it takes over an hour for your food, it's really hard to love the place. I guess we came at the wrong time, as it was Loudoun County Restaurant Week and they weren't adjusting well. They were certainly apologetic but it just doesn't leave a good taste in your mouth. The drink I got took about 20 mins. When they later asked if I wanted another, I said no -- sure, I would have liked another but was it worth a 20 min wait? Nah. Same thing with dessert - would've loved to try it, but didn't want to wait ~30 min for it so instead we closed our tab and walked over to Coldstone to end our night. I do hope to try it again sometime but I don't know that it'll be anytime soon, as I'm more likely to frequent other places. read more

First time and it exceeded our expectations! The restaurant itself is gorgeous. It was very clean and classy. The ceilings are high but the sound doesn't bounce. The water is delivered in a glass vase and the salt is in a dish with a small spoon. They definitely thought of the little things. My guy ordered the Patty Melt and his exact words were "this is the best burger I have ever had!" I had the Bouillabaisse. Everything was cooked to perfection. We've been to the same locale several times with past restaurants. They've been average to above average but never survived and not been memorable. But AhSo has broken that mold. The staff and service is excellent. The wine list is superior and prices reasonable. Cocktails are imaginative and delicious. And the food is a complete home run. The chef is a genius. Finally....a restaurant that is chef driven and independently owned. Each or our dishes had our taste buds exploding off our tongues... My wife had the scallops which were seasoned peeeeefectly. Then she had some fish from Hawaii...mong ching fish That dish I'll give a 8.5....the scallop appetizer I'm giving a 10. I had the wagyu carpaccio with the duck yolk, etc....GIVE THAT DISH AN 11....not just for taste, but for originality. The same goes for my bass. Anyone that can combine fish with beets and make it fit perfectly is obviously talented. At the end we were both pretty filled so we shared the Apple skillet cake...which of course with home made ice cream with Apple cake, was luckily shared by 2 people...cause I'd have eaten the whole thing by myself if given the opportunity. Besides the mongchong, and that was NOT bad at all...but everything was a 10 out of 10. One thing...a very nice touch by our waiter, Jason. He must have seen me enjoying my bass and there was still sauce on my plate. I had JUST commented to my wife how I wish I had some bread to soak up that awesome tasting sauce. Awful. Don't get me wrong the food was great, but they need to get their act together. We went on a Friday night at 6pm and it was half empty. That should have been the first sign. We had our two small children with us and they did pretty well. But the problem was the 90 minutes it took to get our food. And that was only after a manager came out and asked what we had ordered an hour after ordering. Once the food came it was very good, albeit my medium-well burger and another persons was medium both looked essentially burnt on the outside and bleeding pink and uncooked on the inside. read more

Great food. If you're going to include tip you must improve your service. Food was fantastic. Sampled the foie gras and scallops for apps and the rabbit/ribeye for main course. Every bite was amazing! The drinks were slow to arrive but worth the wait. If the service lived up to their mandatory 20% this place would be a 5 Star hands down. Ignoring the glass of wine that was neglected (and admittedly later comped); and the cocktail served in a chipped glass. 4/6 at our table ordered the ribeye; we were provided zero knives before our entree arrived. Delivery of the entrees was a bit of fiasco but after some deliberation the correct temperatures of steak found their homes. When I requested a knife from our waiter I was told "try your fork first". Really?? Must be nice to get a guaranteed 20% with no real effort required. I'm for progressive wage structures, but bad service like this shouldn't be rewarded. Had the tip not already been forced on us this would have been a 10%er max. Loved the food, would think twice about returning due to the poor level of service received at these prices. read more

Hailing from 2941 restaurant in Falls Church and most recently, Clarity in Vienna, his Chef driven menu brings refreshing creativity, flavor and passion to Loudoun County palates. I LOVE that ALL Gratuities are included in the pricing of not just the food, but all alcohol as well. WHAT??? The result, OUTSTANDING service. Kiara, our waitress, was efficient, sweet and incredibly personable. The perfect personality to build relationships with customers that will have me and others coming back and asking for her by name. Gluten Free Sous-chef from acclaimed Great Falls restaurant, Koko Mandy, is also a part of Jason's culinary team. YES!!!! This powerhouse combo and overall concept will undoubtedly put AhSo on the map as a Mecca for foodies across all of Northern Virginia. The Butternut Squash Frites are out of this world, I could have easily eaten two orders by myself in the corner and NOT shared :) I really loved the Diver Scallops and The Scampi & Grits are an absolute must have, I love the plate they were served on too, kept the dish hot and sizzling to my last bite. The bartending team was outstanding, my Blood Orange Jalapeño Martini was so YUMMY, and Kiara made sure to keep them coming :). Oh, and the Paleo desserts! We had the brownie which to me resembled and tasted like a decadent magic bar, minus the crust - it was outrageous, perfectly portioned and MADE IN HOUSE! Sure, there were quirks. The inside isn't yet completed decor and build-wise and it was chilly inside the night we went. My husband felt the scallops and his Chesapeake Rockfish were a tad salty but these are all easily fixable. It was opening night and there so many positives that I can't help but be giddy for this restaurant. Chef Maddens has a lot more in store for his menu too including fresh baked breads and flatbread (I believe) coming soon. I cannot wait to see what is yet to come! read more

We picked this restaurant because it's right next to the movie theater and didn't realize what a treat we were in for! If I could, I'd rate it 3.5 stars, but given the price point I decided to round down this time. We went to AhSo for my wife's 40th birthday. We're foodies and winos, so we were excited to try a new fine dining establishment that would be local. My reaction was mixed, more so because at this price point you shouldn't overlook things that you might otherwise. FOOD: The food was fantastic. We had the yellowtail appetizer, my wife had the Cobia and I had the "Perfect Ribeye". It was indeed delicious and close to perfect. It was trimmed well and it came out a perfect medium. The mushrooms were tasty and the brussells (while slightly under for my taste) were still good. We got two desserts - the brownie and the apple cake - and we wanted to lick the plate afterward. Yum! DRINKS: I had two mixed drinks (the O.G. and the Orange one) and they both were tasty. My wife had a few glasses of wine, all of them also delicious. The two red wine pours *seemed* on the stingy side, at least it was noticeably so. And the wine glasses didn't seem excessively big, which I know can throw off your perception. But when you're paying close to $20/glass, even if the service was included, the *apparent* value was lacking. The Prosecco at least was a nice healthy pour. And a great choice. No complaints about the wine choices available. DECOR: One problem here. We were seated at a table and noticed we had a significant wobble. The waitress noted that this was a problem table and got a couple of shims to try to rectify it. She got it stable, but cautioned me not to allow my foot to touch that area lest the shims go under the table and make it wobbly again. (Apparently that's what I did when I sat down.) Again, if this was Outback or Bonefish I might shrug it off, but we should have been offered another table. SERVICE: I'd say warm and friendly but unhurried. We were kinda tucked in the corner so it felt at times we were searching for her, and it wasn't crowded at all that night. I'm mixed on the included 20% service in the price. While I applaud that from an employee point of view, from a diner's point of view I wonder how it affected her attentiveness. I'd be happy to tip more if the service was good (20% is our floor, typically) but there's not even a line on the bill for it. She did seem to push the "buy the bottle if you like the wine" option, she suggested this several times. We asked for a bit of bread, got a couple of thin plain slices on a plate. Again, seemed a little plain for the type of restaurant it seems to be. PRICE: There absolutely is a place for a fine, upscale dining option in Loudoun County. Diners just need to be aware that this is definitely more of an upscale option, one belied by its location next to more moderate options like Blue Ridge Grill and the other restaurants in the strip mall. Maybe my expectations were too high, but when you're spending $200+ for two people , I probably did expect more out of the entire experience. The food and drink is delicious though, definitely worth trying based on that. But Dining out is more than just the food and drink though, it's the entire experience. In that sense, I didn't feel as if the apparent value for money was completely there. Would we come back again? We would, for the right occasion or with friends. But we're not jumping going to back for our next date night. read more

My husband and I came to Virginia for holidays to visit my husband's best friends, and he recommended us this restaurant. It was definitely a great place to go.I have no words to explain how amazing the food was and outstanding service.The owners and staff were very attentive, everyone was talking to us and making sure we felt welcomed and at home. We had the foie gras and duck trio (which I loved) as appetizer, and scallops (another amazing dish). We had a great experience at AhSo Restaurant. I highly recommend it. This restaurant is amazing. I have gone here twice for work dinners and both times it did not disappoint! The wine/cocktail list is great, there are drinks for everyone. They have a lot of specialty drinks that you won't see any where else! The menu is limited, but you can tell they put close thought into everything. The menu is also not always the same. Everything is local and they tell you where the meat or vegetables are coming from. When we went it was about 6 of us, so we just ordered everything off the menu and ate it family style. You can definitely tell that the food is fresh and prepared same day. The menu is definitely contemporary and with options that will just jump out at you. The deserts were amazing!!!! We also ordered one of each and cleaned the plates! The atmosphere is great. We went on a Thursday night when there was live music. Music that you want to sing along too and not to loud so you can still talk to who you're with. They also have a small private room that's enclosed with glass so you can still see the rest of the restaurant. All and all, this place is a must try and great for date night. Our first inside visit to AhSo in over a year, though we've had takeout several times during the worst of the pandemic. We usually have reservations but thought we would just chance-it arriving as they opened for dinner (yes, you should make a reservation). Well, we had to sit at the bar which turned out to be one of our greatest experiences at AhSo. Our server/bartender was Phil. We ordered a glass of wine and the rib appetizer while try to decide dinner. Those ribs were great. After a bit we decided to have the wine-pairing dinner. Since the wine-pairing dinner changes often I won't go into exactly what it contained. However, It was great and we highly recommend it. Though busy, Phil took the time to explain the various aspects of our meal, which the servers always do when we sit in the dining area, but Phil took a little extra time and checked on us more often. At one point during our dinner, Phil, hearing my wife and I discussing some of the spirits on the bar shelves, brought over a bottle of Japanese Whiskey and asked if we wanted a taste (of course we did!). Once again, Phil took a good moment to discuss the whiskey with us. A great dinner made better by Phil. read more

I went here last weekend for a friends birthday and the service was excellent. The owner came out and said hello to us and the waitress poured a small glass of champagne to start the party of right. The first dish I had was so good it consisted of chicken, potatoes, bacon and cheese. Deeelish! Then for a main course I had the Chicken which came out perfect and after getting half way through I hit the wall and had to ask for a box =) Everyone else at the table had a great time and when it was time to pay the waitress had no problem splitting up the checks.
