Was so excited to try Ahi, family had been raving about it, sadly had a very disappointing experience. Took our grandma here for her birthday, and the service was some of the worst I've had in Bakersfield. To name a few issues: - The waitress didn't take all of our orders, she literally just left the table halfway in. We had to chase her down and ask her to finish taking our orders. - The staff never cleaned one dirty dish from our table. The dishes kept piling up to the point where we just bussed the table ourselves. - They forgot multiple entrees. When we asked them if they were coming they just kept saying they would check, but never followed up, and some of our food never even showed up (never got the chance to try the nigiri, which we came for). - The staff never apologized or tried to make right their mistakes. I totally understand being understaffed, but just tell us that instead of being rude when we're asking for basic things like getting the food we ordered. Overall, the food we were able to try was slightly above average and, as stated above, the service was significantly below average. Sounds like the boss was out of town, so maybe that's why the service was rough. Will give it another try at some point in the future. read more

Tonight we went out for dinner, and honestly, I was let down. I had been looking forward to sushi all week. I finally convinced my husband to try this place I usually hit up for lunch. His meal showed up, but mine took a whopping 35 minutes longer, and by then, I had to cancel my order because my husband's food was cold. It was so disappointing to see that the sous chef was prioritizing takeout orders over the folks dining in. I noticed tables around us waiting for 30 minutes for their meals. One dish would come out, then 10 minutes later another, and then another 10 minutes for yet another. It should either be a proper restaurant experience or a fast food joint. Personally, I believe they should prioritize the customers who are actually in the restaurant. read more

We decided to go for sushi after the Luke Bryon concert was a bust. Hoping to find a decent experience and we were so pleasantly surprised to find a diamond! Ahi sushi has an amazing selection of rolls, fresh, baked, tempura etc! We ordered the yellow submarine, heavenly, snow, beautiful lady, and a few others! Would definitely come back and may even make a special trip just for the sushi! (We came from LA!) The sushi was that good!!! Seated immediately for lunch at noon on a Friday. Lots of staff working so even though they had a full house during the lunch hour, they kept up with the demand. Our service was perfect, pleasant, refills, order of food brought out was timely/properly paced. Started with miso soup--pretty standard. Garlic edamame next-delish/fresh/cooked properly/big serving. A bit of time to digest and then the sushi came. Bay scallop nigiri--wow huge amount of scallops compared to the other 100 places that I have had them and very tasty. The rice had a subtle sweetness to it but not overpowering. Finally the roll "beautiful Lady". All I can say is "WOW". lots of fresh fish, not ruined by being overspiced but very flavorful with some greens that came with it (some even in the roll!). The rice paper allows one to eat a piece in two bites (which even for me was necessary as the pieces are large). The price was excellent, especially for the quality and quantity of food. We yelped this restaurant because we were not familiar with the area. My friend wanted sushi and Ahi has good reviews. We were seated at the bar right away. All the staff were friendly and polite. Our food came quickly. My friend's sashimi was super fresh. Great presentation. I'm not a fan of sushi so I ordered the deep fried lobster roll. Phenomenal! I'm still thinking about it a week later. Our experience was just another of a long series of pleasant, and delicious events at what has been, and remains, our favorite Bakersfield sushi place. True, over the past couple of months, prices have increased at least 13%, but portions are generous, quality is good, Asian chefs doing their thing were on duty, and the ever smiling hostess was the same. BTW: The lunch Bento deals remain uncommonly good values. This remains a simple, but delectable, Japanese restaurant. No starched linen, nor fancy silverware, nor crystal wine glasses. Never received such awful service in my life. As someone who was a server and bartender for 10 years, I always give the benefit of the doubt and tend not to judge harshly, always leave a generous tip, etc... but these errors were inexcusable and truly ruined mine and my girlfriend's experience here. Our disappointment was mostly due to our server completely ignoring us while taking care of three other tables and even taking the time to chat and laugh with them while we were left completely unattended. My girlfriend ordered the flaming hot roll and sashimi sampler. We also ordered the spicy edamame to start with. I ordered the "Veg Ramen" which had a plant emoji next to it on the menu, so I assumed it was vegan. My mistake, but that could definitely be misleading for people who are vegan. When my dish came out, there was cooked egg in it. I planned on politely asking if I could have it remade without egg, but our server never came back to our table to check on us. It took about fifteen minutes before finally being able to catch her attention. Her section was basically a row of four tables, of which we were the third. She continually passed by our table briskly and with her head down, while still attending to and interacting with each of the 3 tables right beside us. One of her other tables was getting their second round of alcoholic beverages ordered and dropped off after we received our food and still had not been checked on. My girlfriend was more than halfway finished with her meal before I was able to even ask for a remake. To which the server responded, "for here or to go?" while still just barely starting to take drink and food orders for her other tables. This made us feel like we were being rushed out, while other patrons were still being welcomed. This was 45 minutes before their closing time btw, plenty of time to prepare a soup dish and for me to eat it. Initially, when we ordered our meals, our server said she would be back with our miso soups that come with our entrees. We never got them even though her other three tables all got miso soups. Yes, I looked! I had completely forgotten about it because I was so disappointed about everything else, but then my girlfriend pointed out that we also never got our spicy edamame. Finally the check came and of course the spicy edamame was on there despite never having received it. We were ready to leave, so I approached the waitress stand to just pay instead of waiting for her to come to us. I let her know we never got our appetizer and was dumbfounded by her response. She said when it came out of the kitchen, nobody could figure out where it went, so it was just given away to another guest. Nobody ever approached our table with it. Then I was still expected to pay for it? What a lame excuse, not to mention a clear lack of communication on her part between her and her coworkers. She took it off and I paid, and for the first time in my life did not leave any tip. This was our second visit. Our first was wonderful, we had a different server and the whole experience was great- but after this one we will not be returning. Being completely ignored the entire time we were there, while her other three tables right next to us all received attentive service, and then feeling rushed out was all totally inexcusable to me. Hire servers with experience who don't pick and choose which of their tables they actually provide service to. Had we not felt incredibly unwelcomed, she would have received a 25% tip. However, she made us feel like she did not even want to serve us and that is completely unacceptable. read more

My goal at any location is to find the best raw salmon and I am happy to report that this had the most fresh fish I have had. The service was fast and the the servers were friendly.
