The food here is great if you know what to get, I get the culichi roll and it's by far my favorite. Their carnívoro is also pretty good. The pricing is pretty decent and the service is always good. I will say don't get their aguachiles at least in my opinion they are not the best. Every time I get it, it's they're warm and don't give you enough juice. I paid $20 for each order of sushi for three, totaling in $60!, if I wanted to spent $60 I would've went to a fancy restaurant but this was not expected. Prices here used to be $10-$16. Mexican sushi, it caught my attention immediately. It's not your typical sushi. I've been following their social media accounts for a few weeks now. Finally, today was the day! I dragged my co-workers along. Amazing customer service. And I say amazing customer service because I must have asked the guys working 101 questions about the food and they were more than helpful and never once got impatient. I usually beat the lunch rush when I go out to eat because I go early. The food was cooked quickly (after I finally made up my mind). The best part is that they served us at the table we were sitting at. The seating is attached to the restaurant on site. They do not sell drinks, you can purchase them at the restaurant inside. The food is plated like you're at a restaurant. I got the Tres Quesos. It is breaded sushi stuffed with chicken, bacon, Philadelphia cream cheese, Chihuahua cheese and American cheese. Mine was missing the bacon, but it wasn't a big deal. It tasted very good, but it felt like something was missing (not talking about the bacon). My coworker tried the sauce on the table and told me to try it. I added it to my roll and everything was complete. It's like Chipotle crack sauce. I couldn't stop eating it! I found myself even dipping my carrots in it so I could keep eating it. I hope they let me buy a bottle of it next time. (All plates come with Tampico, chile toreado, onions and carrots.) The owner was very rude. I already had paid $65 for sushi to go and he wouldn't give me sauce on the side for my rolls. By the way, when you dine in, they bring a bottle to you to have as much as you want. But, when I requested a little side for my sushi, that I purchased, he was going to charge me $1 per little container. When it's free if you dine in! Makes no sense. Holy Mary Mother of God, I've made it to Sushinola... and they were open... and it was glorious... Praise be to Sushinola! Now that I've written myself a one-way ticket to Hell, let me describe to you my experience. Late Sunday around 7pm, the BF and I were famished. Our first option, the ever famous Carlos-approved taco truck, El Buen Pastor, was nowhere to be found. Like, completely gone. Only a few picnic tables remained along with sparse remnants of tacos that were not to be had. We searched the trusty Yelp app and since we weren't keen on much of what was in the immediate vicinity we opted for Sushinola. It had been on my radar for many months, its location was just simply not somewhere I frequented. Sushinola is located right beside a brick and mortar taco shop (the name escapes me). They jointly utilize the outdoor patio, which is great! My one issue with food trucks is the seating. And because I'm a mega-planner and always have to be prepared I appreciate this immensely. We arrived right before they closed, even though the app stated they were open until 9. Perhaps the taco store closed earlier and therefore the seating wouldn't be available? Not sure, so we ordered to go. What we ordered was damn near enough to feed a family of 6. These aren't your normal sushi rolls. It's like Chipotle and your favorite sushi shop had a baby. I should note one thing - if you don't like cream cheese, turn around. Every single item has cream cheese. I've had sushi before with this inside and was never impressed. Sushinola, however, does it well. Infierno - chicken, avocado, cream cheese, and shrimp. Decked in a chipotle sauce this spicy (it was actually rather gringo-spicy) roll was delectable. Coco Roll - Sweet, tropical, and all things delicious. The Coco Roll is like a tropical vacation all bundled up. At one point my BF wasn't even responding. He was in a complete blissed out state with the Coco Roll. Sushinola Especial - Special little thing. Definitely, opt for this if you're new to Sushinola. It gives you a decent taste of all their flavors wrapped up in one. Serrano Roll - Cheesy! That was my first impression of this puppy. Super flavorful, but definitely cheesy which made the BF a little queasy. Sushinola is unique to Bakersfield. No one else is doing this. Which surprises me so much that they're located off of Niles. I mean, downtown, yeah I get that. They'd kill it with the DT lunch scene. But, I guess they're doing well over here on Niles. Here's hoping one day they have two trucks and can cater to even more of Bakersfield's expanding market of foodies! read more
