Pork Katsu (crispy pork cutlet we had as an appetizer)
    Bruce G.

I was surprised by how nice the ambiance was inside the restaurant, considering it is in a strip mall. They have done a great job making it look inviting and stylish inside. My wife and I started with the pork katsu as an appetizer, which was incredibly crispy on the outside while tender and juicy on the inside. Delicious. Afterward I had the classic Tonkotsu ramen. It was pretty good, although the chasu was fattier than I personally prefer. I asked them to add chili oil to make the broth spicier and I enjoyed it that way. My wife ordered the Tantanmen ramen, which she absolutely loved. I tried some of hers and I also really liked the broth, so I will get that next time. Overall it's definitely a nice place to grab dinner and we will return.

I tried this place twice and was disappointed each time. I'm ramen obsessed so I came here because of the good reviews hoping for exceptional ramen. The tonkotsu didn't taste at all like tonkotsu. It oddly tasted like corn... like there was corn juice in it. I had to add a lot of soy sauce, sriracha, and garlic to wash out the weird taste. The pork gyozas were good but the sauce was a little bland... added sriracha. The service was great, nice decor.

My favorite ramen in town! If you ask me what ramen spot to go to it's an easy answer! I always say here! I get the tofu ramen and it's super flavorful! The restaurant is super cool it has anime characters painted on the wall! Such a good spot

Probably one of the worst ramens I have ever had - and I had plenty. The broth was too watered down and super bland. This place was packed and the staff was welcoming and friendly. The place was also good with a cozy vibe. However, their ramen was almost inedible for me. I ordered their tonkotsu ramen and it did not taste like it at all. P.S.: Please take this review with a grain of salt as I originally came from LA with a hefty amount of delicious ramen places and this definitely could not compete with even the most mediocre ramen place in LA. The only reason this is not getting a 1-star review is because their staff was really nice. Other than that, I don't think I will be coming back.

This food went crazy! 10/10 in flavor 10/10 in portion 8.5/10 in price (little too expensive imo) Food was presented beautifully and the restaurant is filled with anime portraits and the mural on the back wall is cool! The perfect spot for anime and ramen lovers! I had the Tantanmen (spicy ramen) My kid had the same but mild. We had an order of tempura shrimp and monkey balls with a glass of Sapporo. Look forward to coming back. Only thing I found a tiny bit uncomfortable was the waiters standing about 5 feet away from our table. It was a little slow when we went so it seemed they had to focus a little extra on us since the restaurant is kinda small. Other than that cool spot and can't wait to come back!

My friend and I came on a weekend evening for dinner. It was really crowded when we went, and we had to wait for 20min before being seated. The interior was very comforting and welcoming. Our waitress was very attentive but we did feel a little rushed. We both got tonkatsu ramen, but I got medium spice and my friend got mild. I've had medium spiced ramen before, and I felt that mine was spicier than expected. Overall, we had a good experience and will likely return to try other dishes.

The ramen was absolutely delicious -- full of flavor and definitely hit the spot. The place was busy, which is always a good sign, but we were able to get seated fairly quickly. The service was okay -- it could have been a little more attentive -- but overall it didn't take away from the experience. I would return and would recommend it!

This was our first time here. The service was amazing and the flavor of the food was out of this world.

The food and service was amazing. The flavor of the food was spot on. I would definitely recommend this place for a great meal

The fixin's. Chili oil, soy sauce, togarashi, etc. Right on the table.

Stopped by for lunch last week. Quick service. We both ordered Ramen. Excellent taste. Lots of veg in mine, great flavor in both. Noteworthy:They had cold ramen on the menu which I am excited to try! This isn't a super fancy place, there's some clutter around, but the table was clean.

The food is pretty good. The ramen was flavorful and a big serving. The staff is attentive and friendly. The overall experience of the decoration is cute and fun. Felt like I was transported to a new city.

So it's been a while since I have been there. I love the decor, all about anime. The wait staff was friendly and attentive, checked on me constantly. It feels like a Ma and pa shop, small dinning room, a few tables, the crowd is young. I started with Seared Ahi appetizer. It was marvelous, especially if you like spicy food, it has a generous amount of hot pepper on top. I ordered Tonkotsu ramen, my measuring stick for a ramen shop. It is a very restrained interpretation, not very salty, not very fatty, the broth is a little on the sweet side, the egg is cooked a fraction too long. Overall a decent place to eat.

When we're craving ramen, O Ramen is always the go-to. It hasn't disappointed us yet. The atmosphere is great, and the wall decor is really cool. It does usually take a bit to get seated since the space is small, so there's almost always a wait, but if you're not in a rush, it's no big deal. My favorite menu item is the karaage chicken! super crunchy and even better with the spicy mayo. For ramen, we always order the tantamen. The spice really takes it to the next level. We usually swap the pork out for katsu chicken (they bring it on the side), and it's definitely worth it. Overall, another great experience at O Ramen. We'll definitely be back.

I never would have guessed I'd find a new favorite spot in Bakersfield. The town has really grown since the last time I visited. They have a lot of good restaurants now. This is a must stop for me. They have the best karaage I've ever had. Service is prompt and polite. They were very attentive and got the order right. The restaurant is cute (see pics) and there is plenty of seating. The ramen and dumplings are good, but I still crave the karaage. The chicken with the sauce they serve along side of it is delicious. I can't wait to go back!

The bright anime art and neon signs really brings the place up to the current trend. I was glad to see the same sweet, kind waitress working here. Despite the obvious inauthenticity, it did not taste like a Japanese ramen shop either. Looked like packet noodles in disguise. Price was pretty cheap and affordable. Basic ramen starts at $10, for 2 pieces of chashu pork, bamboo, bean sprouts, and green onions. For additional fee, you can add on more toppings. For $2 extra, I added on the boiled egg. It did not come soft boiled like most ramen shop. It was a firm yolk, hard-boiled egg. Their chicken katsu appetizer had no dipping sauce on the side either. Asked for chili oil, they only had Siracha hot sauce or dried chili crisp, with barely any oil. I ordered miso broth ramen. But the ramen came out looking more dark and tasted like soy sauce. The broth was so bland that I could not finish my bowl. Service was okay. But this is the worst tasting ramen ever. No, I do not recommend this place.

These are fried octopus balls with a delicate crispy shell and a creamy interior with perfectly cooked octopus. They are garnished with kewpie mayonnaise and eel sauce with delicate shaved fish dancing on top. This is the only place in town for takoyaki and it is exactly like takoyaki in Japan. This time we opted for the salmon rolls which have pillow soft steamed buns, perfectly cooked moist salmon, eel sauce, and sweet slivered carrot. They are light and delicious with an order of two making a wonderful appetizer for the both of us. My husband ordered the Bulgoji bowl with savory and tender beef atop sticky rice. It is beautifully seasoned and not spicy which I love because I can actually enjoy it. In general bulgoji is too spicy for me so this is a wonderful discovery. My choice of chicken Ramen was also a win as the broth is rich and savory and the noodles have a great firm bite. The bowl is dressed with rich and tender chicken thigh, a fish cake, broccoli, spring onion, slivered carrot, and a marinated soft boiled egg. I'm glad we did, because it gave us a whole new feel for the place. Inside isn't massive, but it's not cramped either. Think of it like the Goldilocks of restaurant spaces: just right. The vibe leans calm and cozy, dim lighting, black walls, and splashes of color here and there. It's got that "peaceful sushi zen" atmosphere without being boring. Our waitress deserves a medal (or at least an extra roll on the house). She was the only one working the floor, yet somehow managed to be friendly, attentive, and efficient all at once. Multitasking level: expert. Now onto the food, which is really why we came back. We ordered a spread: two teriyaki chicken plates, one chicken ramen bowl, an order of sushi crunch rolls, egg rolls, a large pineapple sake, a beer, and two iced teas. (Yes, we came hungry. Don't judge.) Everything came out quickly, hot, and fresh. The chicken was juicy, the rice perfectly cooked, and the little bed of veggies under the teriyaki chicken was tender-crispy and surprisingly addictive. Whoever thought of tucking those under there deserves a raise. The ramen had bold flavors that hit the spot, and the sushi rolls lived up to their name, they really were crunchy and delicious. Now, the egg rolls. Let me tell you, these might just be the best I've ever had. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and stuffed with flavor on the inside. The kind that makes you regret ordering only one plate. Drinks? The beer was cold (and surprisingly affordable), the iced teas were strong and refreshing, and the pineapple sake... well, it was different, let's just say it's not everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I'll stick to tequila, lol, but my husband happily claimed the sake as his new favorite. Win-win. Prices here are fair and budget-friendly, which is always nice to see at a sushi spot. The place was clean and well-kept, and I'm happy to say it still holds up just as well as when I ordered takeout years ago. Bottom line: Shoyu Sushi is still doing its thing, fresh food, good prices, relaxing vibe, and service that makes you feel taken care of. If you want sushi that crunches, teriyaki that comforts, and egg rolls that just might ruin all other egg rolls for you, this is the spot.
