Found the location via Yelp and not too far from the hotel. The place is a little dark inside with booths for seating. Seems to be a mom and pop place. The lady was nice and helpful as I ordered the bento box with beef teriyaki. I will say that it was a lot of food so much so that I could not finish it. The beef was on the sweeter side but paired well with the plain white rice. The tempura was fried pretty well and had a nice crunch. I stopped in for lunch a few weeks ago and was transported into a relaxing, calming environment, while waiting for my sushi. I was ordering takeout but should have considered dining in instead. I ordered a dynamite roll and a side of rice while waiting patiently. For the first time in a while, I truly felt at peace. This place has some of the best sushi and bento boxes I have had. I used to work in the area and would come here frequently, but it had been a few years. The food is still cooked too perfect perfection and you can really fill the craftsmanship in the dishes. This is located at a busy intersection Truxton and Oak. The parking situation is horrible. I have wanted to try this place for a while. It is small inside, so depending on the time you come, you might not get seating. The older man that was the server, let's just say he's not the most friendly. I've been scoping out this place for a while and I finally got to try this spot. It's a cute little spot off of Oak, the restaurant itself is small and cozy. My friend and I went there for dinner and the food and service did not disappoint. Our server was very kind and attentive, she always checked on us. We were ravenous and deprived of sushi, so we were pretty ambitious about our order. We ordered the Heart Attack appetizer and Sushi and Sashimi Boat. The Heart Attack, which is a deep fried jalepeno popper stuffed with spicy tuna and drizzled with spicy mayo and eel sauce, was cooked to crispy perfection. When the Sushi and Sashimi Boat was brought to our table, we were astonished by the amount of sashimi, nigiri, and sushi. We literally went, "WOW." All the nigiri and sashimi (salmon, tuna, and red snapper) tasted fresh. We really enjoyed the California Rolls and Spicy Tuna Rolls as well. I have been coming to this sushi spot for years, but it was the first time in a really long time. I had worked downtown for 10yrs and this was my "go to" place since I worked down the street. Not a lot has changed inside and I think the first time we visited was back in 2003-2005ish. The place looks exactly the same. It's crazy to see that this spot used to be our sushi place back in the day and now Bakersfield has tons of sushi places. Our recent service was just okay. The gentleman that was serving us didn't seem too friendly and we felt rushed to eat. It wasn't a busy day, so I know it's not that they needed tables. It just felt like he wanted us out the moment we got in there. The service definitely felt different then a long time ago. It used to be a lady on the floor and she was always pleasant, I wonder if she still works here. I would love to come back again one day, I just don't think it's anytime soon. Parking is small, and lunch rush is horrible. You won't be able to find a parking spot, but dinner time or odd times usually isn't bad. The traffic on both sides of the street doesn't help either. This is a nice sushi place and I think you should check them out, you might have a different experience than me. read more

Well, it was ok but not great or too good. The sashimi was good but not real good. One of the baked muscles was full of shell pieces, I have never had that happen before. I was careful not to chip a tooth. I love sushi enough that I enjoyed my experience, let's just say there are better places. The service was good, but there were only 2 tables including us, so I don't know what it would be like if it was busy. One really nice thing was it was a cold winter night, and they actually turned the heater on unlike most restaurants in Bakersfield. I love that when you call to order, your order is ready so quick, none of this "okay it will be ready in 20 minutes." I call from a few blocks away and they have it done by the time I get there, 7 minutes maybe? They package it perfectly, so no worries in getting it home in one piece. The dinner bento is giant, you will definitely have leftovers. They can make rolls with soy paper, so for all you seaweed haters out there... I really like the vegetable tempura, it's so good, very fresh. I am giving a solid four stars, I am taking off one star because they don't devein the tempura shrimp. It came with a small salad, miso soup, California rolls, vegetable and shrimp tempura, and steamed rice. My husband opted for just the Teriyaki Chicken and Tempura bento. We really enjoyed the tempura. Flavor and texture was just right. The teriyaki chicken and California rolls were average. Just enough to satisfy. We ordered the dynamite roll on the side. For cooked sushi, it was a little heavy but delicious. Would be okay as a meal by itself. The ambience was little "divey." Their glass door had foil to block the sunlight.
