I was brought here as a surprise, and what a wonderful surprise it was . The service was fast and efficient. The waitress was friendly and considerate. The restaurant is clean , modern and feels elegant yet still inviting. We ordered miso soup , shrimp gyoza , mango mango as well as the Cajun roll . I was pleasantly surprised at how fresh everything was. The mango mango roll melted on your tongue ,it was absolutely incredible. This was by far the best mango roll I've ever had . The Cajun roll was spicy and delicious. The miso soup was so flavorful and warm , the perfect temperature.The shrimp gyoza was crispy and bursting with flavor. Today I visited Sushiko with my sister during our lunch break, hoping to enjoy some sushi. Unfortunately, our experience was far from what we expected. After over an hour of waiting, we asked how long until our food would arrive. The server said it would be 15 minutes. Thirty minutes later, I inquired again, asking if she could bag our food to go and how much longer it would be. That's when we were told that the printer hadn't printed our order, and it would be another 10 minutes. I would understand if they are busy, the other table of two had gotten their food before we sat down. We were the only other people seating in the restaurant. They take way tooo long, I don't recommend it. Frustrated and on a tight schedule, we decided to cancel our order, as we simply didn't have time to wait any longer. What made the situation worse was the server's sarcastic remark wishing us a good day as we left. It's disheartening to encounter such poor service, especially when you're looking forward to a meal. We ended up having to return to work on an empty stomach, which was incredibly disappointing. I can't recommend this place based on my experience. read more

3.5 stars The last time I was in Bakersfield, my friend and I grabbed an early dinner on Sunday night at Sushi Ko. The restaurant was empty, but I noticed several customers coming in to pick up their to go orders. My friend and I shared the following: -yellowtail nigiri ($5.50 for 2 pieces) -salmon nigiri ($4.50 for 2 pieces) -spicy tuna salad ($14.95): sliced tuna sashimi in spicy sauce -rainbow roll ($13.99): California roll topped with 4 types of fish + avo -crazy dream roll ($13.99): crab, avocado, cucumber (inside), topped with baked salmon I thought the yellowtail and salmon nigiri were great - both were melt in your mouth good. The salmon piece inched a little on the larger scale which made it suspect, but nonetheless, no complaints here. Both the rainbow and baked salmon rolls were adequately good - basic rolls I've had at other sushi establishments, but here, nothing really stood out about the rolls. The baked salmon roll was good but unmemorable. I felt like the fish stretched out just enough to cover the rolls, with nothing more to add. The spicy tuna salad was generous in portion, however, I was not expecting spicy tuna in poke form. A generous heap of poke topped the salad, which I thought was interesting. The salad itself doesn't come with dressing, so we had to ask for an additional side of dressing otherwise the salad was too dry on its own. Bits of the tuna were too sinewy for my preference, so for the most part, I stuck to eating just the salad. Well, sushi does exist in Bakersfield, but determining the best one with the freshest fish and best sushi roll concoctions? Who knows. Up to you to decide. read more

Had dinner last night with a couple of friends. The restaurant itself isn't very inviting. The front doesn't look like much (dirty windows and minimal signage) and when you go inside it's pretty dark. It was also warm inside. It was a pretty hot day outside and it didn't seem like the air conditioner worked very well. All three of us were sweating. I was greeted right away and seated to wait for my friends. The waitress was very attentive. My friends each had a Bento box which they enjoyed. I had the Udon soup and the Lobster Hills. I really enjoyed both. Had to take a lot of food home with me because the portions were pretty ample. So the nearly $50 I spent on my dinner and drinks will actually be two meals. The soup was delicious, somewhat spicy, contained thick noodles, mushrooms onions and the broth was just amazing! The Lobster Hills was also very good. The only complaint I have is that it was a baked roll so the top of the dish was hot as if it had been baked for a little bit but the rolls underneath the Langostino were cold. It was quite tasty though. My first time having Langostino and it really does taste like lobster. Honestly I'd like this place because the food was good but the atmosphere wasn't very comfortable. read more

The menu has a plethora of items and one for every pallet. Our go to specialty rolls are the Rainbow Roll, Crunchy Sexy Roll, Crunchy Caterpillar Roll, and the Super Philly Roll. Great sushi for a decent price! Kind of a hole in a wall place because they don't have a huge online presence. You have to call to order & can't order online as far as I can tell. Every time we've called and ordered over the phone our food was ready right when they said it would be so I appreciate their punctuality. Good service, nice staff, haven't dined in though! We've only been going here since the covid shut down. We love their rainbow roll, salmon roll, tiger roll, tropical roll, & spicy tuna roll. We are not huge sushi connoisseurs so I can't tell you how it compares to other places but for us it hits the spot when we crave sushi! Compared to prices around town, they are on the more affordable side and still have the quality we are looking for in our sushi order. Last night we ordered the tiger roll, rainbow roll, and tropical roll. We loved the surprising sweetness of the tropical roll and the crunch of the cucumber. Sushiko is out of business. Note that all the reviews are months to years old. It used to be excellent, but slowly degraded and most of the clientele left. There are a couple close options that are good (shoyu, kan pai) but your best choice is probably myoshi about a mile south on coffee at stockdale. read more

Great food served promptly at an affordable price. My wife and I stopped in for dinner 09/27/19 and were acknowledged quickly, invited to sit wherever we pleased. The rolls they offer (beyond the somewhat typical noodles and entrees) are extensive. I think they offer something for pretty much all sushi lovers. My wife and I elected to go with the Dancing Spicy Tuna and Dragon Tail, and they were both absolutely top notch. The rolls were a little soft and fell apart a little easily, but that was probably my lack of any chopstick skills more than anything. We did have to ask for Miso soup (which should be offered straight away), and it was great. We also ordered the garlic edemame, which was soft, hot, and garlicy. What else would you want from it? First time for everything! If you live in 93312 you'll know that pizza and sushi are plentiful. There must be half a dozen of each in a few square miles. So know that if one sushi place isn't your thing, you're bound to find one that is. Sushi Ko has been on a long list of sushi joints I have yet to visit. I'm not really a sushi fan (gimme all the burgers, tho!) so it's taken some time to warm up to this cold dish. The service was impeccable from the start. Super kind, super inviting, and informative - everything you want for a great dining experience. There were several specials of the day on a chalkboard behind the sushi counter. They even have a Happy House from 3-6pm, but alas we arrived just after. The rolls were delicious but spicy they were not. That's simply my own preference. Nothing a little wasabi can't fix! I wasn't too terribly thrilled with the pineapple sake. It was different than I'm familiar with and didn't have the body that I'm used to. Four rolls later our total was over $75. A little pricy for a weeknight meal. Especially since we're used to our standby sushi place's prices. read more

My husband and I came here for lunch this weekend and enjoyed our meal. I found this restaurant via yelp, and saw the high ratings so decided to venture inside for a look. It was dimly lit inside, which transported me to some fancy sushi restaurant that you are likely to find in Los Angeles. :) Didn't expect this type of decor or ambiance from a sushi restaurant in Bake.... We ordered: (1) chicken katsu bowl; my husband ordered this and it was a good portion with some tasty chicken katsu (the sauce was the best part). It came with salad and white rice. (2) happy volcano appetizer - if you don't want to order a sushi roll, but want something that tastes like sushi, then try this. It's $11.99 and it's a bed or white rice, covered with lobster, crab, and scallop. tastes great; we were glad to have ordered it since the portion size is fitting for an entree. (3) lunch bento box of don katsu (pork) and teriyaki salmon; the bento box comes with a side of miso soup, rice, 1 gyoza, 1 egg roll, salad and cucumbers. It was priced at $12.95 which is pretty expensive, but the portion size was good because I couldn't finish and had to take items home with me. We were happy with our meal, and the friendly service. By far, one of the best sushi joints in Bakersfield. What's crazy is that I live close to this place and never gave it a shot when I passed by. It's a small restaurant in the strip mall that has many other chain and local restaurants along with an In-Shape gym. I had heard from others about the amazing sushi hear so I gave it a shot and now I have been here three times and the food here is exceptional. The service here is great and I have gotten the same server every time I have been here and she is always polite and friendly. I have gotten one of the basic rolls like the California and Spicy Tuna Rolls and while they are great the one that blew me away was the Popcorn Lobster roll. O...M...G...!!! So freaking delicious. It just might be my favorite sushi roll entree in Bakersfield! I was seriously blown away by it! I have gotten three times now and separate occasions and it's been perfect every single time! If you even remotely like lobster or want something to tantalize your taste buds, definitely get this roll! It's off-the-hook! Do not let this restaurant fool as it blends in with the strip mall here because it is truly a hole-in-the-wall and is seriously one of the best sushi joints in town. Heck, if it weren't for another famous sushi joint in town, this would be THE best in my opinion. Fresh sushi and great service! I ordered bento boxes to go and was a quoted prep time of 25 minutes over the phone. So I arrived after 25 minutes and then had to wait an additional 20 minutes after that for a grand total of 45 minutes. And then to rub salt in the wound, they gave the excuse that miso soup can't be provided because they didn't have the containers for it,and they didn't offer any kind of discount for their mistake. This restaurant is amazing! My husband took me on a date here for my birthday. The ambience was perfect as well as the smiles on the faces of the staff when they greeted us. It is a small place. From the outside it doesn't look like much, but looks can be deceiving. My husband and I sat at the bar in comfortable seats. The waitress who was training another employee (quite well I might add ) immediately came over to take our drink order. Drinks arrived, meals were ordered, and shortly we received our plates. We ordered the 'red bull' because everyone on yelp said to. Yes it is amazing! The filet on top is great, tender, and the taste together -delicious. I've never seen filet before in a sushi roll. The flavors melted together! Amazing! We also ordered the 'crunchy sexy', which was also wonderful. The combination between the two rolls was nice. The later being sweet and the Red Bull being spicy. Oh no.......Sushiko. I'm so disappointed in you. We haven't been here for several months, and sorry to say.....they don't get the 5 star rating from me this time. I LOVED Sushiko before! But, I really won't return. As for the food; I got the Bento Box. I got the "spicy chicken", which wasn't spicy at all. They should call it "spiced chicken" because it had a lot of spices, but wasn't spicy. For my other choice, it was "Spicy California Roll". It tasted okay, but when I bit in to it, I ended up getting all the inside and the rice just fell off everywhere. It was very awkward eating it. I ate two pieces. The miso soup......which used to be my All Time favorite out of every place I've been,........no more. It didn't have the fresh, out of this world taste as they had before. The green salad was still delicious; but I'm at a Sushi restaurant and I wasn't there for the salad. The waitress asked if we wanted more tea when my husband and I were about to leave (and not during our meal). Although, she was attentive when I asked for eel sauce and a fork. When we first got to the restaurant, she told us to sit wherever we'd like. We were able to choose the table we usually sit at. She gave us a minute and then asked us what we'd like to drink. By the time she came back with our drinks, I asked her if the A/C was on, because it was uncomfortably stuffy in there within less than 7 minutes of being seated. She looked at the fan that was not far from us, and said, (respectfully) "Yes, can you not feel the fan?" I said, "Not really." She told us that the A/C was "just barely fixed not too long ago". As we were waiting for our food, a small burst of coolness came through, but not enough to keep us comfortable during the whole meal. Between the food that was subpar, (seriously, I've had better California Rolls from Vallarta on Rosedale) and the temperature of the restaurant, I won't be back. There was a person on a Facebook page that had never been to a Sushi restaurant before and was asking for recommendations; I HIGHLY recommended Sushiko.
