Walking into Shoyu Sushi feels less like stepping into a restaurant and more like joining a family gathering. The atmosphere is warm, inviting, and filled with familiar connections -- many of the guests and staff seem to know each other like family. Even on my first visit, I felt welcomed, which is a rare and delightful experience. The food was outstanding. We were given a sample fried eggplant appetizer,it was a tasty beginning to a few better entrees to come and I ordered the lobster and scallop rolls, which came in generous portions, made with fresh ingredients and crafted with care. My wife's Bento Box with Miso soup -- featuring bulgogi and chicken -- was equally perfectly cooked. my kid ordered it a sushi roll and ate it so fast, I forgot to ask them what it was called, but I did take a picture. If I had to find a flaw, it would be the rolls and slightly heavy hand with the eel sauce on my lobster and scallop rolls, but that was a tiny hiccup an otherwise excellent meal. The true standout of our evening, however, was KayKay. More than just our server, she was a hostess, entertainer, and resident comedian. Her humor and vibrant energy turned dinner into an unforgettable experience. Honestly, I don't think our visit would have been quite the same without her. Thanks to KayKay, Shoyu Sushi wasnt just a place to eat -- it's a place I'd gladly return to again and again.

At one point in my life, I ate sushi all the time. Then, I took a long break, due to skimpy portions, exorbitant prices, and mediocre quality. My girlfriends who are also my colleagues decided to pick sushi as our monthly event. I hadn't been to Shoyu Sushi before. The interior is small but spacious at the same time. The bathrooms are very clean. Music is vibrant. We ordered miso soup and I almost didn't. But I am glad I did! It is the best I have had. The garlic edamame was addictive. The young lady who was waiting on us was straightforward and accommodating. I ordered the hama-hama roll and it was good and generous in portion. I ordered another fresh roll but forgot the name and it was too spicy for me but good. The only bummer was Shoyu did not have green tea ice cream. I ordered two bento dinner boxes to-go for my husband and son and they really liked them. I will definitely be coming back.

The food was very delicious today. I like trying this new dish today which was the popcorn lobster. The service was fair. Not a very friendly waitress. But maybe she's having a bad day. She was very quiet and went out the door for a phone call and we were out of Soy sauce. But like I said, maybe she was having a bad day. They Still haven't changed the music. The ambience with the music is not very pleasant. But we keep coming back for the food.

Great as usual... Fresh tasty fish, clean, quiet and wonderful service. I'm never disappointed.

Amazing place! Love everything about this restaurant. Haven't had a bad experience, ever. It will get busy around Friday through Sunday evening hours. Its a fun place to bring groups or sit at the bar and share a drink. A hidden gem on the Eastside.

What can I say that hasn't been said already? Shoyu sushi continues to be my go to spot for sushi in town and always stays consistent with the food and service.

I can't believe I haven't reviewed this place yet. It's difficult to find decent restaurants on the east side, especially a sushi place, but Shoyu Sushi is a gem on the east side. It's not a fancy place and is definitely just where us East siders go, but it saves you a trip downtown or even worse Rosedale or the southwest. The sushi is always good. They, thankfully, don't throw a bunch of unnecessary sauces on their sushi. The miso is also always good. They have gluten free soy sauce in the back for celiac folks. They give you these little eggplant treats before your meal, which is an unexpected perk. The service can be hit/miss. If you have the staff that have been there for a while they will be just fine. It's just the newer staff is lacking on attention.

It's was a rainy day so we decided to try out the Spicy Pork Ramen. The broth was flavorful, and the meal was very filling.

I've been seeing this place on my Instagram feed and decided to try it today with my son. We went after the lunch rush, so it was nice and quiet in the restaurant. We went to the location on Mount Vernon, and when you walk into the store it is completely different than it looks on the outside. The menu is good, and has a lot of options even for people who do not eat sushi. We tried the baked scallop roll, a California roll on rice, paper, vegetable tempura, a kitchen, bento box with chicken teriyaki, and Don Katsu, which is pork, and yakisoba with Chicken. The portions are large at the restaurant, so definitely shareable. The vegetable tempura was delicious and was served with one of the best tempura dipping sauces I've had. The outside had the perfect amount of tempura batter, and it was fried to perfection without making the veggies, soft or wilted. The Bento box was delicious and was a huge portion. It was served with a salad with a ginger sesame dressing that was mixed with a little bit of peanut butter, and I didn't care for it too much, I prefer mine without the peanut butter. The chicken teriyaki was tasty, the pork was also delicious, and the box also came with four pieces of California roll, and I ordered mine on rice paper. The yakisoba was OK. It didn't taste like much... It was a good portion, but it was missing the essence of wok stir fry flavors such as sesame oil, onions, garlic, soy sauce, and salt. I think my favorite thing in our meal was the baked scallop roll. Again, it was a fairly large portion, and definitely shareable. This roll was very fresh and topped with baked baby scallops, spicy mayo, and eel sauce. We also ordered the Bako roll, and that was good. It had salmon, cream, cheese, spicy crab meat, and was tempura fried, and topped with a dollop of Sriracha on each piece and a slice of jalapeño or serrano pepper. Overall the place was clean, and the staff were very friendly, and our waiter provided great service. We sat in a booth, and it was not as comfortable as a booth should be. There was no padding on the seats, and we could feel the frame of the booth, and the cover on them was peeling off. Overall, this place was good and will definitely go back when I am in the mood for sushi!

Shout out to Mickey the owner!! She was so super sweet and she hooked us up! So our service Ritchie was super awesome also! He was personable and really down to earth! He was super amazing and I loved having convo with him! He says he's been here for several years so if you do happen to pop in then you will more then likely be able to request him and Believe me when I say he's worth it! We had so much food because there was 7 in our party but unfortunately we were all eating so fast I forgot to take pictures of everything! We even ordered a California roll with fried lobster on top! I've never heard of it but it was so good! Next time we are back in Bakersfield we will come back my husbands mom and step dad love this place they have known the owner for years and he looks out for them whenever they stop in!

I stopped in on a Tuesday evening to grab dinner. This is the second time I've been to this spot. The restaurant is located in a small unsuspecting shopping mall behind Bakersfield College. I was immediately greeted and told to sit anywhere I'd like and took a spot at a booth. I explored the menu and appreciated the delineation between different types of rolls, including baked ones. I ordered the Washington roll and a veggie roll. Immediately after placing my order, I was given pieces of tempura to enjoy. The rolls came out and were sizable. The Washington roll had a nice balance of lemon, particularly helpful given the hot summer day. I enjoyed the salmon exterior. The roll had a sauce already, so a minimal use of soy sauce was needed. The veggie roll was light and tasty. Solid sushi and friendly service.

Jin sushi.. your food and waited service, has absolutely hit it out of the box. BUT please read…read morethe whole review.. We shared the garlic edamame which was my absolute favorite and the best edamame I had ever tasted whatever seasonings with the generous amount of garlic was just heavenly. If you like edamame you should love this one you won't be disappointed. I could literally have a bowl of this and a couple of Stella Artois for dinner and have the best night ever. We also shared the bulgogi bento box as well as two rolls, one being the lobster roll the other one being a spicy flaming roll which of course I forgot the name of but either way the ingredients were very fresh the roles were both full of ingredients and everything in the Bento Box, the fried rice the salad & the Bulgogi was tender, all were all tasty and reminiscent of a another restaurant in Bakersfield that is usually my Bento Box go-to. JIn Sushi could absolutely be my most favorite sushi place in Bakersfield if they fix a couple of little things It's only two problems I had with this place one was the seating issue, that they created when we first walked in I had a reservation and waited 25 minutes to be seated I only knew it was an issue because I talked to the lady behind me who had a appointment 15 minutes after mine with three friends and was seated before me, the whole process seemed unorganized and the young lady running it seem to be stressed trying to get it right. The next issue was me reading the health score violations during my extra 25 minute wait and trying to avoid any of the foods that were listed. Something I probably wouldn't have seen if I didn't have to wait 25 mins. after my reservation well researching any complaints about wait times. If management gets the seating issue corrected, and place up front who will stay up front and take command of the seating, keeping track of who comes in with reservations I think this would have been a overall better experience. However we will definitely try again.
