Today I ordered two Handrolls, the Poke Handroll and Yellowtail Handroll. The Poke Handroll with tuna & eel sauce. Also the yellowtail Handroll with masago & ponzu. The rice is perfect and the Handrolls are generous. A lovely little post meal treat of sliced apple with chocolate & peanut butter. The Japanese always know how to make food beautiful but also elevate the simplest of dishes. Most of us have had chocolate & peanut butter or apples & peanut butter. I've lost count of how many times I've been here, and they never miss. The service is top-tier, attentive, and genuinely kind every single time. I went for the Spicy Chicken Bento lunch special today. Holy portion sizes! It is basically two meals in one for under $20. You get the spicy chicken, sushi, rice, salad, and gyoza, plus miso soup on the side. My friend stuck with her absolute favorite, the Teriyaki Chicken appetizer (she literally raves about it). I tried this place while I was visiting family my grandmother actually recommended it, it was a great choice especially during the hot weather, their monkey brain is the best I ever had, the heart attack was just spicy enough my grandmother loved her rolls, the only thing I wasn't a fan of was the miso soup it was very dark like a sweet and sour soup so that threw we off a bit. My son and I were having a Labor Day date and decided to come in for lunch. The restaurant was fairly empty, which I'm not gonna lie, I absolutely love! We ordered the sushi combo #2 which consists of spicy tuna roll, 4 piece sushi (chef pick), miso soup and house salad. This combo is only 24 bucks and we never finish it! We also ordered a couple of Melon Ramune and they always provide a small bowl of salted edamame as a starter. Love sushi is the only restaurant that I've been to in town that offers you a complimentary sample sushi. I never know what type it is, but of course I don't complain! This was one of the firs Sushi Restaurants in Bakersfield. I have been eating here since Yelp existed. I happened to be in the neighborhood today and we decided to drop in for old time sake. Nothing changed, in a good way. It is cozy, small, with a super sweet Japanese lady as the only server. She was so nice, keeping on bringing us free things to try. We were in a mood to pig out. We did sushi a la carte with fatty tuna, salmon, grilled eel, fresh shrimp, tuna, and albacore. Every thing was prepared to perfection and presented beautifully. I went to Love Sushi on a Sunday evening, when the majority of restaurants I had seen in town were closed, except Love Sushi. As soon as we stepped in, we were greeted by a hostess who told us to sit wherever we wanted. We sat down and were brought complimentary edamame, miso soup, and at the end of our meal, orange slices. We ordered about 3 rolls which were all large-sized portions, and I was full after the meal, which I rarely am after eating sushi. The hostess was also our server and she was very kind and consistently checked in on our table to make sure we were doing okay. I've been coming to this location for years, but after a recent visit I was completely disappointed. The waitress was completely rude to me and my family. We asked to be seated at our usual spot, but she demanded that we sat specifically where she wanted. Given the place was completely empty, I then repeated the question and ask what the reason was for her demand. She had no real reason for the act other than telling me it was policy. I was utterly shocked given that it was about noon and no other customers were in sight, so I got up and left. This location is off of California and Stockdale. I've been to this one a few times and it's not my favorite location. There's always a good amount of homeless people hanging outside. It just doesn't make you feel good to go out of the way to come when you're craving sushi. Sushi was good and if I was in the area I would definitely go back, I just wished this area wasnt like this. I used to live around the corner and this area is turning into a not so nice area. Staff is nice, the place looked clean inside. It's a small eating area, but from what I can see they get a lot of DoorDash orders because you can hear the beeping thing go off often. I ordered a Bento salmon box. The salmon tasted like radiation! Definitely was microwaved, when I told the waiter it tastes microwaved he said it was baked. It smelt like pea it was disgusting took one bite and was done. It came with one wonton which was delicious and a salad, the lettuce was old and tasted like the 1930's. Had the best lunch date at Love Sushi in Bakersfield. Finding good sushi in Bakersfield had not been on my bingo card for the day but I was so pleasantly surprised with this meal that I had to come on here to tell you all about it! Love sushi was close to one of my friend's houses so we decided to stop in for lunch. Really the reason we chose this spot was because it wasn't far and it was one of the only sushi restaurants that opened at 11am vs 11:30am. We found this spot easily, clear signage and there was plenty of parking which was great. We walked inside and were immediately welcomed and offered a nice booth in the back. This restaurant is pretty small. Only about 5 booths, a small sushi bar, and a couple tables so on the weekends I would say come earlier. On a weekday this place didn't get too busy but lots of take out orders were coming through. Service & staff here were 5 stars and honestly the best part of this experience. Our waitress/server was darling and super sweet. Very attentive and she knew the menu well which was impressive as they have a large menu. She was helpful and checked up on us often always clearing empty plates and refilling our glasses. The sushi chef was also the kindest guy oh my gosh! He sent complimentary hand rolls over to our table. Who does that? It was so sweet and much appreciated, it set for good vibes right off that bat. That was a really generous free starter. Our meal was definitely very delicious and we both left super stuffed but happy. I'd say their sushi overall was 4 stars but actually their cooked meals and bento box were an unexpected 5 stars for me. Their Bulgogi was some of the best I've had, especially at a sushi restaurant. Almost as good as some Korean bbq spots I've been. The bulgogi had a great sauce and the sauce got hot enough during cooking it gave good little crispy edges to the meat. Super tasty and the bento boxes are Hooked up here! Came with rice, salad, miso soup, California roll, and two fried dumplings. Seriously what a deal?! The sushi was middle of the road to me, I liked some things better than others - my roll was tasty but needed a stronger sauce to give it a little more flavor. I liked the salmon hand rolls though. All in all we had a super fabulous lunch experience here. The restaurant was clean, cute, and cozy - my favorite c's. Haha. Service was impressive and the owner/chef couldn't have been any more generous. He also gave us a tiny apple dessert at the end, so sweet. Food was very good and for the large amount of food we ordered the price was about average. For a good meal though we are happy to pay. Came here on New Years Day for dinner, as it is one of the few restaurants open (and open late). Ordered a couple of rolls, hamachi collar, and a seafood udon. Everything was delicious! My wife and I have been coming to this place for over three years now and they are always consistent and the food always taste great but most of all the staff always makes us feel like family. My go to roll is always either the rainbow roll or the spicy rainbow roll which is three types of fresh fish. I had the donburi, miso soup, and deep fried scalloped yellow tail? (I believe) the fish was very fresh!! The donburi is assorted fish (raw) over rice and greens. It was a great meal for 1. The waiter gave excellent service but the chef I believe named Ken was such a disrespectful, rude, ill behaved worker. He was practically yelling at the server for no reason with other customers including ourselves inside. It was disturbing and I felt bad for the waiter.
