Went for dinner and I forgot how amazing the sushi was here! We got three rolls, each one had their own sauces and they were all so delicious! We got the patron roll, aguachile roll, and salmon delight roll. Our server was nice, attentive and helpful. The restaurant was pretty packed but we got seated not long after arriving. They had a variety of things playing on the tv so something for everyone. Will definitely be back more often!

An experience with every savory bite. The service was so attentive without feeling overbearing. Ramen needed a little more depth, lacked salt. The rolls are amazing and so delicious. A great spot to dress up a bit and enjoy amazing food

Celebrated my friend's birthday party here, and our server, Ricky, handled our party of 15 like a pro! It was a large group, so naturally, people trickled in. Ricky was quick to get everybody started with cocktails while we waited for the remaining guests to order food. I do not eat seafood, but he made some good suggestions, and I ended up getting the Veggie Tempura, which was delicious! All the food came out at a timely manner and had zero issues. When it was time for the check, he knew exactly who got what and cashed us all out quickly as well. The restaurant was busy, but it wasn't loud or overwhelming. Would definitely recommend it for a group setting or a nice date night as well.

Service here has always seemed consistent. Sushi has always had great flavors. Out table was there for a birthday lunch so a variety of cocktails were ordered, all very nice. They have a tree off to the right of the dining room and to the feel of the place making it have just the right touch of elegance. I do recommend this place still looking forward to more great meals here.

Great place for some sushi with a twist. The drinks are really good too. The service is great, the servers were fast and nice. The place has a nice decor with lots of seating and bar area.

A Very Unique Environment, with Great Food! We've been patronizing this building, since it was built, many decades ago. It started out as a speakeasy, where you needed a password to get in. Then, it was a cool breakfast place, with miniature pedal cars for kids, that could be purchased. Now, it's a really cool fusion restaurant, sushi bar, and regular bar, that requires a few visits to discover what they have to offer. I probably left out a couple of the businesses in-between, because I'm more than a half century older than this stand-alone structure...that's my story, and I'm stickin' to it! Anyway, The Fusion of Hispanic and Japanese Cuisine is quite unique, but always tasty! They have a Happy Hour in the bar section, that includes appetizers...a great place to start! Next time, sit at The Sushi Bar, where hard-working prepares will be on their feet for hours, making sure that you get EXACTLY what you want to sample. Finally, on another visit, try an incredible variety of entrees, at a very reasonable price. The best part is, you won't go away hungry, and will have enough for lunch or dinner the following day, in a couple of their to-go boxes. Creative, delicious desserts too! Check them out...a few times!!! Friendly, appreciative, service too!

Always a great time stopping by with friends to have lunch or dinner , so fresh the salmon no rice with Rocky sauce on top.

Rainbow Roll, Vegas Roll

Always a solid choice for sushi in Bakersfield. Everything we ordered was fresh, flavorful, and came out beautifully. We got the Rainbow Roll, which was vibrant, fresh, and perfectly balanced, and a Vegas Roll that was indulgent and full of flavor. We also ordered another roll that I can't remember the name of, but it was just as good. Honestly, there wasn't a single miss on the table. The fish tasted fresh, the rolls were well portioned, and the flavors were spot on. Service was great and everything came out in a timely manner. Bocados continues to be a reliable go to for sushi, and I'll definitely be back.

I've been a longtime customer, but the menu and service have become so inconsistent that it's really disappointing. I ordered sushi to go and had to ask for basic items like ginger and wasabi that normally come with it. The sushi itself came out completely different than before. Sometimes it's rice on the outside and this time it was wrapped in seaweed. When I asked if the menu had changed, they said no. For the price, I expect consistency and better service. When you order something labeled "tempura," it should come out as a proper tempura dish, not something that looks freshly unfried. There was no effort to resolve the issue or offer help. It's frustrating to pay this much for such inconsistent quality and lack of care. In regard to the establishment perhaps their service should match the facelift they just did on the inside so the ambiance can be amplified.

After the drinks and two appetizers ( spicy margarita type drinks, and the calamari and spicy garlic shrimp) my boyfriend declared that this was one of his favorite places in Bakersfield! Wow! We waited far too long to try as there are so many great sushi places here. My boyfriend predicted we would be back in a few weeks lol. We were seated by the bar, which I really liked. Most of the customers were seated away from us. The bar area has a darker, bit of a chill vibe.... The service was great, friendly and very available.... The sushi was great, good variety of rolls with unique ingredients. The Bocaddos roll had cilantro avocado salmon yellowtail jalapeño and a sauce... oh and fried onions. Unique and my boyfriend loved it. I paid extra to get two orders if the premium fatty hamachi ( yellowtail) and salmon sushi. My only disappointment was that the sushi came with all this sauce on it - a lot of lemon sauce for the yellow tail (with jalapeño and sheracha (spelling) which I was able to take off and move to the side) and a brown sweet sauce on the salmon. I was surprised and disappointed. Thus my premium sushi tasted like the sauces, than the sushi. It still tasted good but I would have ordered the regular yellowtail and salmon sushi if I was aware of these unnecessary additions. Next time I will be explicit, no sauces! A friend recommended this place which is why we gave it a shot. I am sure knowing what I know now, I will order better and my review will move to a five star review definitely.

Great dish very tasty

Pork Ramen - picture doesn't do justice but it's delicious

Food is delicious, we also ordered sushi and calamari (we forgot to take pictures) but it was so good. Service is amazing, forgot her name but she was very attentive. Will go back again definitely

Unnamed roll #1, delicious!

I'm from out of town but heard that the sushi was really good here, well I have to be honest, it is!!! I was fortunate enough to sit at the sushi bar with a few more folks that were enjoying some new unnamed rolls! The service is outstanding! I asked the sushi chef if he would make me a roll that he would like an honest review on, something not on the menu, he agreed. Roll 1 was amazing, I really enjoyed the garlic, onions and jalapeño, inside was salmon and paired with the fresh wasabi it was outstanding and it left me begging for more! Roll 2 was very light, no rice! Shrimp wrapped in salmon with jalapeno and avocado with a base of cucumber and lemon, this one has no name so show them the picture I will supply, yum! Roll 3, yes roll 3. Was rice based with raw salmon and some secret mildly spicy sauce on top.The presentation was outstanding, the friendliness of the folks who work there and the all around atmosphere was outstanding, I highly recommend and I can't wait to go back , I went on a Monday evening. It's a must try !!!

The staff is warm and welcoming from the moment you walk in. The ambiance is lively with an open-concept layout, so if you're looking for a quiet or intimate setting, this might not be the spot, but the food makes up for it! I ordered the spicy chicken noodles, and the portion was very generous. I personally wished it had a bit more heat. We also tried the spicy edamame and the 8-piece gyoza. Both were excellent!

I'm glad we did, because it gave us a whole new feel for the place. Inside isn't massive, but it's not cramped either. Think of it like the Goldilocks of restaurant spaces: just right. The vibe leans calm and cozy, dim lighting, black walls, and splashes of color here and there. It's got that "peaceful sushi zen" atmosphere without being boring. Our waitress deserves a medal (or at least an extra roll on the house). She was the only one working the floor, yet somehow managed to be friendly, attentive, and efficient all at once. Multitasking level: expert. Now onto the food, which is really why we came back. We ordered a spread: two teriyaki chicken plates, one chicken ramen bowl, an order of sushi crunch rolls, egg rolls, a large pineapple sake, a beer, and two iced teas. (Yes, we came hungry. Don't judge.) Everything came out quickly, hot, and fresh. The chicken was juicy, the rice perfectly cooked, and the little bed of veggies under the teriyaki chicken was tender-crispy and surprisingly addictive. Whoever thought of tucking those under there deserves a raise. The ramen had bold flavors that hit the spot, and the sushi rolls lived up to their name, they really were crunchy and delicious. Now, the egg rolls. Let me tell you, these might just be the best I've ever had. Perfectly crisp on the outside, soft and stuffed with flavor on the inside. The kind that makes you regret ordering only one plate. Drinks? The beer was cold (and surprisingly affordable), the iced teas were strong and refreshing, and the pineapple sake... well, it was different, let's just say it's not everyone's cup of tea. Personally, I'll stick to tequila, lol, but my husband happily claimed the sake as his new favorite. Win-win. Prices here are fair and budget-friendly, which is always nice to see at a sushi spot. The place was clean and well-kept, and I'm happy to say it still holds up just as well as when I ordered takeout years ago. Bottom line: Shoyu Sushi is still doing its thing, fresh food, good prices, relaxing vibe, and service that makes you feel taken care of. If you want sushi that crunches, teriyaki that comforts, and egg rolls that just might ruin all other egg rolls for you, this is the spot.
