This location is next to Maya Cinema. I've seen it a couple times every time we go to Maya Cinema to see a movie. There's always people inside so naturally, I am intrigued if it's good or not. From the get go, it looks like a small, family owned restaurant. Their prices fairly cheap and affordable specially in this economy. I have not tried any of their food aside from their egg flower soup. The egg flower soup was too watery and bland for my taste. I will give their food a try next time and will adjust my review and rating as needed. read more

Upon entering the restaurant, I immediately noticed that there was a barrier made of chairs to prevent customers from getting to close to staff when ordering food. I also noticed a plastic curtain at the cash register with a hole for customers to pass their credit card through as a social distancing measure. The main reason I like this restaurant because I can order fried rice without egg, vegetable chow mein and tofu with spicy garlic sauce. There are three ways options for ordering food in the restaurant which are a la carte, in a bowl, or in a combo. I ordered a combo plate of veggie chips mein with a double serving of tofu with spicy garlic sauce while hubby ordered two bowls of tofu with spicy garlic sauce, veggie chow mein and vegetable fried rice without eggs for him and his mom. My meal of veggie chow mein and tofu with spicy garlic sauce was good but the tofu with garlic was so spicy, I ended up having to have a drink nearby to cool my burning mouth. The vegetables used in the veggie chow mein was fresh and crunchy. I also had some of the vegetable fried rice without egg which was cooked well and flavorful. read more

I've been coming here for years and their food is always good. However, their recent staff has been making me reconsider. The Mexican lady and the Asian guy are always rude their service is awful. (Not being racist that's just how I can identify them I'm Mexican too). They don't say a word to you when you ask for the bathroom code or ask for chopsticks. They cheap out on the meat and you don't get your money's worth. I love when the Asian lady is here she's always so nice and respectful. read more

I asked if I may sample the noodle and the man who's a cook as well apparently ignore me and went to the kitchen and had the lady working the line ignore me and asked if I was going to place an order. I proceeded to order but I should have seen that as a RED a flag. I ordered a plate with 1/2 noodle and 1/2 fried fried. Orange chicken and mushroom chicken. I asked for an order of spring rolls and the crème cheese Wong tongs. My total was 15$ Now the concern the food was not hot. No good flavor. The Wong tongs were empty hard pieces I wanted a replacement of those and the female said that's what wong tongs are empty. Hard fried pieces. I asked where's my crème cheese and she said I didn't order that I was shocked For me the customer service is awful. I hate to say it but this place will suffer to keep the doors open. Worst Chinese food I've ever had! The food was cold and it shouldn't have been considering how close it is to my home. The noodles were orange , salty and greasy. (Why were they orange??) China has done a lot of damage to the U.S. lately and China Bistro the restaurant is no different. This place will fill you up with delicious, tasty food then dare you to interact with your daily task with a ticking time bomb inside your lower intestine. The food is so good you foolishly destroy it in record time only to break out in a cold sweat and panic as you try to find the nearest porcelain chair to paint brown. The service and atmosphere is nice and clean. This place is a lot like Jeffrey Epstein's Island, a mouth full of tasty pleasures only to be swiftly tricked and have an aching anus a few hours later. Besides the anal explosions from General Tsao's Chicken, I definitely recommend you eat here. read more

I showed up to this place starving. I wanted to like it. But it is not very good. The people and service were very nice. The food itself is what missed the mark with me. The taste was not terrible, but very bland. Chinese food is not supposed to be bland. It's supposed to be a symphony of different flavors that are different from the normal everyday food that we eat day to day. The fried rice was practically on the flavor level of white rice. That's a miss! The chow mein was a little bit better but very mushy and lacking flavor. The orange chicken was not much better. It was a little over cooked and with a very mild orange flavor, and heavy on the breading. I also tried the chicken egg rolls. Those were okay but not worth you making a trip here for. Overall I can't recommend this place. But maybe I just caught them on a bad day. I will not return since I have better options for Chinese food. read more

Waste of money, waste of food...since I barely ate what I ordered. The noodles are bland. The rice, is rice... nothing soecial. I ordered orange chicken, thinking I can't go wrong... but nope...it was wrong. It has a bitter tangy taste that I'm not a fan of. I also ordered fried cream cheese wontons, which is one of my favorites and hard to fail, but these just have a giant plop of cream cheese..no seasoning, not mixed with anything. What sucks is you're almost forces to eat here if a movie is sold out and you have an hour till the next showing, and you're hungry. The parking was poorly thought out. Bummer. Typically no parking spots near by - you will be competing with the Maya Movie Buffs for a decent parking space. Because the Maya is the best place in Bakersfield to see a movie, count on the parking being a problem. FOR LAUGHS, there's parking places in front of the Bistro marked "1 hour parking". Do you think people who can't find any parking alternatives for the Maya Theatre give a s!?t? Location Across from the Maya is a bit off. So, people will plan to go to the movies AND eat here? Really? That's been tried over and over before, and unless the food is really really good, which the food here is not, the place is doomed. Sad. Unless this place can get the food right, they'll plow through the "try it once" customers, break even for awhile, then be done. Oh yes, BEWARE, they have a scam going on right now with their "grand opening sale". There's a sign outside of the place that says, "$1.00 bowl if you order a Combo." ...What else the sign says, in letters too small to read, is you need to show the bistro cashier your tickets from the Maya. OK, so if for some reason you are still wanting to go here after reading this, remember to keep your Maya tickets. A coworker has their chicken fried rice delivered to work all the time, so when I was in the area I thought why not? Wow what a mistake. I had the Orange chicken and jalapeño chicken and not only was it Luke worm the chicken was rubbery and the flavor was terrible. I got the chow mein and steam rice as my sides and they couldn't even make that states good. I don't know about the other locations, but stay away from this one. I've been wanting to hold off on reviewing this places after going a few times and here goes nothing. Of the 5 times I've been to this place, the food is OK. Just OK, nothing special about it, lacks flavor. Noodles are just noodles and the rice is plain. The middle aged Asian woman that helped me was rude and unwelcoming 3/5 times I went. She was rude to other customers also. Prices are decent for mediocre Chinese food. Panda is better but portions are bigger here and a bit cheaper than panda. If I could rate it negative starts I WOULD!! The worst Chinese food I've ever been too. The noodles & rice were the only thing eatable & that wasn't that great either. The beef & broccoli was disgusting the broccoli was good can't go wrong with that. BUT the BEEF WAS DISGUSTING. Didn't even taste like beef & it looked pink & it smelled bad. I can't even eat it. It's super pale in color also the teriyaki chicken same as well. The orange chicken was ok at first but once I ate half of it my stomach started hurting! I honestly have high hopes for this place because it's right across from a movie theater!!! They need to do better I don't know how people still come & eat there. Took both my kids out for a late movie and stopped by this place, worst mistake ever should've just ate a freaking hotdog (even though I'm allergic to it) the food was terrible, orange chicken was burnt, rice was hard, the coconut shrimp made everyone throw up and service horrendous, the cashier got mad just because I kept correcting her on the beverage order, kept telling her 3 boba Thai teas and she kept getting cups for soda, by the 3rd time I told her she threw one of the cups "by accident" and hit my daughter and didn't even say sorry. First time here and I liked it. The portions are good. I had the orange chicken, spicy fish, and jalapeño chicken with half and half. It's chicken was really good, the jalapeño chicken was good too, a little sweeter than I expect it it was good. I didn't care too much for the spicy fish because it didn't seem like real fish pieces, it was more like fish cake. There is a lot of seating here and the place is super clean, including the bathroom. Everyone employee I encountered greeted me with a smile and a hello. They also have a pretty good selection. Ordered this as a last minute dinner pick and it was on grub hub. Big mistake . The food did not taste very good three out of the 4 people did not like their selections . One dinner was supposed to be spicy and it was not. I ordered coconut shrimp they were sickly sweet I could not finish them . I've gone to the other 2 locations. Original location is our go to. This place is great, clean and food is fresh. I feel confident in saying that it probably tasted better than at the original location if that is even possible. Absolutely love that it's across the Maya Theater.
