Hot and Sour Soup
Roxanne D.

We were craving authentic Chinese food last night and came across Ching Yen. You can tell the owner, Sue, takes great pride in her food, and it really shows. We started with the Sizzle Rice soup and Hot and Sour soup. Both soups were rich and delicious with fresh ingredients. We ordered the small bowls and each was big enough for two people to share one and have extra. We decided to try the Combination Appetizer platter which came with two of each appetizer and two dipping sauces. The Sizzling Beef Iron plate and Chicken Fried Rice had quality fresh ingredients. You could tell the pride that went into each dish. Sue was a delight and expressed how much she enjoyed her customers. She made it feel like you're visiting family for a home cooked meal. I'm a soup fanatic too, so I can't wait to try some of the other soups on the menu. We'll be back soon!

The food was very good and the owners are really nice. Everything came out fresh and hot. Tasty menu.

Have always loved the food, service and prices at this little hidden gem. Picked up an order of beef with Chinese greens! So delicious and packed with flavor!

This a great family owned Chinese restaurant. It's in the ghetto and it is not fancy at all, but the food is flavorful, the portions are good, and prices are fair. Everything we ordered came out hot, fresh, and fast. I asked for my Kung Pao spicy and they delivered. My wife and were both pleased and we'd drive across town for it again. The restaurant itself is a little run down.

I think the last time I have visited this place was over 20yrs ago and I remember this place being better than what I had recently encountered. I remember coming here with my mom for lunch several times as a kid and loving it, but on my recent visit the food was not what I had remembered it to be. We ordered tons of food and spent a lot since all 4 of us were super hungry that day. I remember I kept apologizing to my husband and kids for picking out the restaurant for that evening. Going in I expected the food to be fantastic and maybe that's where it went downhill from there. I was expecting it to be similar to other Chinese restaurants in town and I believe that the restaurant is older and a little outdated. What I mean by that is that, they are catering to a lot of customers that have been loyal to them for years and they haven't added that pizazz that the newer restaurants have. I think the cute little decorative flowers and swans that they make out of the foods is really creative and that is actually cool, but the food to me was just not what I expected. Then when it got to the entrees the food was just okay. My kids usually LOVE Chinese food and we definitely always have a lot of leftovers, but they did not really get seconds. The food is not horrible, but the food is not stupendous either. I'm happy I went back to revisit my memories with my mom for lunch; however, I was not impressed with the food and I do not see myself coming back. I did notice the owner talking to people and welcoming them back, so they do have a lot of loyal customers which is nice. She seemed really nice and talked to us for a little while, and every time we go out for dinner, my youngest son always wants to take a trip to the restroom, but my husband walked in and walked right back out and told my son that he needs to hold it til we get home because it was not pretty. The restaurant itself doesn't seem dirty, it's just older and needs to be updated.

I felt like I was in a movie eating here

Typical Cantonese Chinese food. It never disappoints. Sizzling Rice Soup is the star!

The pan fried dumplings were fine, although the filling was reddish colored with little spice. Added the dumpling sauce, reluctantly, because the containers did not look recently cleaned. My most favorite dish, House Special Shrimp, was way off. It looked and tasted like Sweet and Sour Shrimp. The vinegar taste was strong, overwhelming any taste but sweetness. It used to have a savory brown glaze, garlic and mild spiciness. This dish did not. We also had garlic chicken, which was probably the best dish we ordered. Our plate had a few pieces of thinly sliced chicken, but the majority of chicken we were served were 'bits.' Hard to tell the minced garlic from the chicken bits. The fresh onion and bell peppers were great, but cut too big and overwhelmed the chicken bits. Prices at restaurants have gone up, up, up! Now we're being charged for tea & white rice that had been included in every meal for the last 40+ years?!?! Last but not least!, the floors are dirty and there's dust everywhere. place is dusty & dirty. I don't recall it ever being this dirty. I was looking forward to the House Special Shrimp and a delicious Chinese meal. I was very disappointed

This time the son and I decided to dine in and the food was borderline spoiled, nothing tasted fresh and it wasn't hot, nor warm. Our food was borderline cold. The interior was dusty and in need of attention, especially the fake plants. Though spacious when we entered there wasn't a soul in the place, which was a red flag, but per usuh we brought people. I'm not sure if our food was so nasty because we ordered a lunch special and they reserve what's going bad for those orders because the other four families dining in didn't seem to be having the same experience. What saved this review from being a 1 star review and the only reason I didn't complain to the waitress about the quality of the food is because the only server was elderly and unable to pick up her feet and my very gracious son said to lig, so I did, but it appears if the couple who runs the restaurant doesn't get some help soon they may need to close their doors.

Outstanding Service & Delicious Food!…read more I had such a great experience at Maui Pho, and I have to give a special shoutout to Amy for her amazing customer service! From the moment we walked in, Amy was warm, welcoming, and genuinely attentive. She made us feel comfortable right away and went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect. She checked in at just the right times, gave great menu recommendations, and had such a positive attitude the entire time. On top of that, the food was incredible--fresh, flavorful, and served quickly. You can really tell they care about both the quality of their food and the experience they give their customers. Amy truly made our visit memorable. If you're coming here, definitely ask for her--you won't be disappointed! Can't wait to come back!

The menu is an interesting mix of Vietnamese, Chinese, and local Hawaiian dishes. The service was really friendly and the food was delicious.
