Heard about this place on IG... So I thought I would give it a try. I was super excited to go in and try since the review on IG sounded like the food was amazing. The place is like your standard Chinese takeout restaurant, where you have premade dishes, ready to be served with white rice, fried rice, or chow mein noodles. The menu has standard items such as orange chicken, general, chicken, chicken, teriyaki, honey, walnut, shrimp, honey, chicken, mushroom chicken, and so. They also offer egg rolls, cream, cheese, wontons, and soup. What stands out about this place is that they offer a catering menu, unlike some of the other homegrown Chinese takeout places. The restaurant itself is very clean although had a strong smell of Fabuloso and the tables in the floors were a bit sticky. They have one singular bathroom and it was clean. The person who took my order was very nice, friendly, and professional. She was very eager to give me a taste of the entrées in case I wasn't sure what I wanted to eat and I thought that was very cool. I purchased a bowl with half fried rice and half chow mein, and one entrée. For my entrée chose the honey shrimp. my meal came with a fountain drink so that was good. The entrée is $9.99 however, because I got the shrimp, it was a little bit extra. I wish I had gone when the IG people were there doing their reel... Because my food didn't taste anything like how they described it. The honey shrimp was very tasty and the shrimp was cooked perfectly however, every now and then I would get a huge puffy piece. I was not impressed with the fried rice nor the chow mein. I was expecting it to have a wok-seared flavor, like how it was described by the couple doing the reel on IG. For me, it was very plain, in fact, at one point, I thought the chow mein noodles were spaghetti noodles. While the meal satisfied my hunger, since it was dinner time, I likely will not be going back... Sorry, peeps I still have not found good Chinese food in Bakersfield. Solid choice! Here is the breakdown. 1) ambiance - Christmas decor is up and it's really nice and clean inside. My only critique would be the hip hop music inside. Not really my scene. 2) service - both times I've been the servers are very nice and friendly, which says a lot considering the first time I went was for a promotion and the place was packed crazy. 3) Food - nice flavors and food portion size for the price point. Standard Chinese fast food selection and the four entrees I've tried have all been good (general chicken, orange, mushroom, butter shrimp) the noodles here are the star. Very good! I ordered the dragon bowl with orange chicken and chow mein. I loved the orange chicken. It's texture was perfect and it was the perfect amount of sweet. Mmmmm. I personally wasn't a fan of the chow mein, they had a flavor to me. My boyfriend Kail ordered the dragon bowl with teriyaki chicken and chow mein. He said they were pretty good. I finally made the drive to Happy Dragon. I normally stop at one of the others before i drive to the NW of Bako but i made it and i will tell you that it's worth the drive. Im not a fan of chow main but wanted to give it a try. Probably the best tasting chow main ive had. The orange chicken is delicious and had a very strong orange sauce. The Butter Shrimp gets 5 stars on it's own... But I will continue on to offer 5 stars to the rest of the place, as well! This may be one of the more wallet friendly food places in today's economy - for $13.99 you get a packed-to-the-brim plate with two entrees, a side entree, and the expected noodles or rice AND they throw in a drink! And this is just the most expensive plate! They only go down in price from here! They offer most "normal" Chinese food options - orange chicken, teriyaki chicken etc... but the noodles are extra yummy for some reason... Side note -- they also have steamed rice, but you have to ask for it because its not visible on the serving line. Definitely make sure you get the butter shrimp though -- its sticky and sweet and very unique! Also, unnecessary to include in my review, but I am going to anyways because it makes me happy -- any time my 3 year old has a rough day at preschool or anything, she gives me the biggest puppy dog eyes and asks for the "smiling dragon noodles" for dinner.... its the cutest.. The Jalapeño Chicken was terrible. Food tasted nothing asian, just an overcooked, over stirred pile of mush. The general chicken wasn't much better. It just tasted deep fried and didn't have a distinct flavor that you would recognize as food. Rice had a flavor unlike anything I ever had. It just didn't taste right and the whole experience was just wrong. The noodles were the only part of this meal that was palatable but it couldn't possibly make up for the rest of the shortcomings.
