a bedroom with a bed and a window

We had carpet ripped up in 2 bedrooms and luxury vinyl laid to replace it. The worker showed up on time and did a great job! Both of my kids were home and it was a bit chaotic and he did great with my kids as well. He cleaned up after and the floors look great! I'd use this company again.

Large gaps between boards, attempted to fill in with mis-colored wood putty

We had a terrible experience working with Affordable Flooring on our wood floors in our new construction home. We're currently looking to have the floors fully replaced at a cost of an additional $20k to us (Affordable Flooring already took their $20k+). They put the floors in before the house was acclimatized, and all of the boards started to split apart from each other leaving large gaps. They tried to fill the gaps with a wood putty that didn't match the wood, then that cracked. The floors are also bowing in multiple spots. Overall it just looks terrible. The floors are 'squishy' in a lot of places - I don't think they nailed them down tight enough. Or because they installed them before the house was acclimatized, things shifted. They pop up when you step on them in numerous places. They also did a very bad job at making the wood floors flush with each doorway. There are big, uneven gaps and a 2x2 inch hole by our back door where it looks like they clearly just cut the wrong size wood and left it that way. The finish didn't stand up to even one week in the house. The highly trafficked breakfast bar area had the finish completely worn down within a week of moving in and now is a lighter/ discolored version of the rest of our floors. There were also some areas with major discoloration or gashes in the wood - they tried to hide this poor quality wood in various parts of the house (e.g., under a counter lip, in a closet). We brought the Affordable Flooring owner to review the 'quality' of the work, and he took no responsibility for it. They blamed everything on the builder, though the finish wearing away, mis-cut wood at the doorways, and overall horrible attempt to fill cracks in with (different colored) wood putty was clearly on them. They offered to refinish the floors - at a cost to us and profit for them. We obviously didn't take them up on that offer since we'd seen the 'quality' of their work already.

Is it normal for a flooring company to leave a HUGE mess after a laminate install? We used Affordable Flooring & Remodeling and they left thick layer of dust covering the entire house, so bad I could not see the floors. Holes in our walls, banisters and trim not replaced. They told me it is our responsibility to finish clean up and do wall repairs/painting. The craftsmanship was good but for all the $$$ we dished out I expected a finished & polished product. The cost for 2 levels was $12,000. This ultimately delayed our move in and cost us our deposit where we moved from. Left me feeling shocked and deflated.

Refinished wood floor upper level. New and well matched flooring in the lower level. Beautiful job.

Let me share with you my experience,…read more Walter their salesman came out to give me a bid Once he found out that Home Depot had done the estimate already, he just used the amount of boxes which was about 80 for the estimate. He did no measuring or anything else. He was gone in about 10 minutes. (I needed only labor as I was purchasing the material from Home Depot.) Once we agreed on Price to have all the existing solid wood baseboard, removed the new floor put down and the baseboard put back. I agreed to the job. Pricing; I agreed on 50% down and 50% when the job was completed to maintain some control of the final product I'm very glad I did this. Their policy is to get 100% upfront, which I never recommend anyone for any service, ever do. The very next day after agreeing on terms with Walter, I got a call asking for 100% of the money I told this lady that's not what we agreed to and she said well that's what we normally do and I said you better call Walter. I'm gonna cancel the job. She did came back excepted 50% Overall, the subcontractors that came out from a company called Sun sunshine floors did a pretty good job putting in the material But it's the follow up , putting doors back on , getting trim put back on that was a real headache and took me almost 30 days to get done and also a threat of a complaint to get what I considered to be a very reasonable discount about $370 off my bill In the end, I fixed the existing problems myself because it was too much of a headache after they finally agreed to give me the discount Finally, a reminder again if you use this company, do not pay 100% upfront you'll have no control over the job over anything that needs to get fixed and you'll be working on their timetable, while they have all your money ------- Part 2 It's smart that Kelly took down her first knee jerk response to my above comment since is was inaccurate and not well researched. "Telling me I agreed not to leave public comment in agreement for the discount" -that was true if you accepted my generous offer.... the first go round. I'm going to guess that she finally got around to actually reading.... the 2nd email with my threat to file a complaint with yelp. Poof.....gone and replaced with boiler plate sorry we messed up and we should have done better. " Kelly, I wish you would have taken seriously my first initial complaint to your company and really taken the time to call me and find out what happened, Sincerely apologize, accept my generous offer and maybe even go a bit farther to make me happy and satisfied, If you had done so, we wouldn't be having this stupid engagement in the first place. Even after all that, I do hope you have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New year.

Update:  It's now been 2 months since my wood floors have been resurfaced, and I'm very happy with…read morethe work.  The crew brought out the natural wood grains, and they show beautifully.  Also the hardener is fantastic.

As one of the other reviewers said, these guys use subcontractors of varying quality. They had to…read morerefinish the floor 3 times because the owner insisted on sending the same crew back each time (which makes sense if using a fixed-price sub - keeps their profit intact). I communicated my concerns professionally (and almost apologetically) with the owner as we went, but I'm not sure that any of them were addressed directly with the crew - rather they were just given basic instructions at the start of each day to fix the problems from the last go 'round. I'll give them credit for trying to make it right, and the floor looks a lot better than it did when they started, but it still wasn't 100% at the end and they didn't want to listen to any more complaints. A list of items specific issues that as far as I can tell were never communicated back to the crew: - The first thing the crew leader did was take a dump in my bathroom, without asking, and made this a daily ritual. - They didn't bother to cover anything up before sanding - no sheathing between rooms, no covers over the vents - so dust was everywhere in the house. At least I had the good sense to turn off the HVAC, but still had to change the air filters several times before they finished the job. - They sanded/buffed the carpet, trashing it where the carpet meets the hardwood. - Stain was applied in some places across grain / boards rather than same direction leading to stripes (1st attempt), and inconsistently leading to dark splotches (2nd attempt). - They used my ladder (from the garage) without asking. - They left gobs of topcoat around trim and puddling elsewhere. - They did not take the time to use filler properly after the second attempt - there are dark spots around nails, knots, and where sanding was rough. - Hand sanding was quite rough in several areas leading to dark stain, especially around trim, cabinets, toilet, etc. And they didn't thoroughly clean or screen before coating in several places, leading to dirt and debris in the finish. - Stain spatter was left on the wall from brush work and flinging wet towels. The sinks were a left an absolute mess. - There was no real cleanup to speak of and patches of grass are dead in the front yard where they cleaned stain off their tools and equipment. - The "suicide cord" they were using to connect to 240V was a fire and safety hazard. After attempting to share my last round of concerns (not asking for them to redo it again but rather just trying to share some of the issues for future improvement), Anthony told me to stop looking so closely and asked, "You gonna blast us on the internet?" indicating his level of concern. For a website that touts their high level of professionalism and reputation, the crew did not reflect it. If I wasn't a professional contractor myself, then this might have been a traumatic experience. And if I knew the crew and could have hired them directly, then I would have undoubtedly paid half as much... but then they might not have redone it 3 times (especially because I would have kicked them out after the second attempt). I never asked for a discount, and one was certainly never offered. I'm leaving 2 stars because on Yelp that means it "could've been better" but for the price I paid to go with the "pros" I regret not giving one of the other bidders a chance.

We had dark hardwood…read morefloors and then carpet in the the living room area (that was destroyed by a foster puppy). Our vision was for a more open feel with consistent flooring throughout the entire floor (and lighter colored floors). Floors by Tomorrow to the rescue!! Initially, I used Yelp to start a new project, which is a great feature because you can just write up your project once and then send it to multiple contractors/businesses to get quotes. Of course in this case, they still need to come measure the space before they can provide a quote, but it's a convenient way to get things going! This whole process took half a year though... because, life. But we got a quote from one contractor via Yelp and then one through Lowe's. There were pros and cons to both (cost, amount of time/days it would take to finish, who would pick up the materials, etc.). I thought to revisit the Yelp contractors and reached back out to Floors by Tomorrow to get a quote. Right away, Dan got in touch with me and scheduled the initial consult to provide a quote. When he came, he was willing to work with our budget (and the two other quotes we had received). But what made him the best was that he literally scheduled for the project to complete the next day -- "Floors by Tomorrow" is right! We actually needed to schedule two days out because we needed a day to move all the furniture into the garage. Staff came right on time in the morning and finished by 6pm in the evening. They took off our baseboards and put them back on at the end, installed transitions, and even added plywood panels to the previously carpeted area (in order to keep the floor even). There was quite a bit of dust afterward (since they were cutting inside the house) but overall we could see they did their best to sweep and leave things as clean as they could. It really has transformed our house! And we will definitely reach back out when we are ready to replace the carpets on our second floor!

The contractor we were using for remodeling dropped the ball on our carpet. We had less than 2 weeks to order carpet and do the install before we moved in. We called the big box carpet stores and they couldn't guarantee a carpet install in time with such a small window of time. We reached out to Floors By Tomorrow and Dan saved the day! He was able to order the exact carpet we wanted and beat the prices of the big box stores. He was very responsive to all of our questions and needs and best of all the carpet install looks amazing! Truly better than any install we have ever had in our previous homes. We will definitely use Floors By Tomorrow for any future flooring needs and recommend them to anyone who is looking to have their floors redone! Thanks Dan!
