As one of the other reviewers said, these guys use subcontractors of varying quality. They had to refinish the floor 3 times because the owner insisted on sending the same crew back each time (which makes sense if using a fixed-price sub - keeps their profit intact). I communicated my concerns professionally (and almost apologetically) with the owner as we went, but I'm not sure that any of them were addressed directly with the crew - rather they were just given basic instructions at the start of each day to fix the problems from the last go 'round. I'll give them credit for trying to make it right, and the floor looks a lot better than it did when they started, but it still wasn't 100% at the end and they didn't want to listen to any more complaints. A list of items specific issues that as far as I can tell were never communicated back to the crew: - The first thing the crew leader did was take a dump in my bathroom, without asking, and made this a daily ritual. - They didn't bother to cover anything up before sanding - no sheathing between rooms, no covers over the vents - so dust was everywhere in the house. At least I had the good sense to turn off the HVAC, but still had to change the air filters several times before they finished the job. - They sanded/buffed the carpet, trashing it where the carpet meets the hardwood. - Stain was applied in some places across grain / boards rather than same direction leading to stripes (1st attempt), and inconsistently leading to dark splotches (2nd attempt). - They used my ladder (from the garage) without asking. - They left gobs of topcoat around trim and puddling elsewhere. - They did not take the time to use filler properly after the second attempt - there are dark spots around nails, knots, and where sanding was rough. - Hand sanding was quite rough in several areas leading to dark stain, especially around trim, cabinets, toilet, etc. And they didn't thoroughly clean or screen before coating in several places, leading to dirt and debris in the finish. - Stain spatter was left on the wall from brush work and flinging wet towels. The sinks were a left an absolute mess. - There was no real cleanup to speak of and patches of grass are dead in the front yard where they cleaned stain off their tools and equipment. - The "suicide cord" they were using to connect to 240V was a fire and safety hazard. After attempting to share my last round of concerns (not asking for them to redo it again but rather just trying to share some of the issues for future improvement), Anthony told me to stop looking so closely and asked, "You gonna blast us on the internet?" indicating his level of concern. For a website that touts their high level of professionalism and reputation, the crew did not reflect it. If I wasn't a professional contractor myself, then this might have been a traumatic experience. And if I knew the crew and could have hired them directly, then I would have undoubtedly paid half as much... but then they might not have redone it 3 times (especially because I would have kicked them out after the second attempt). I never asked for a discount, and one was certainly never offered. I'm leaving 2 stars because on Yelp that means it "could've been better" but for the price I paid to go with the "pros" I regret not giving one of the other bidders a chance. read more

Update:  It's now been 2 months since my wood floors have been resurfaced, and I'm very happy with the work.  The crew brought out the natural wood grains, and they show beautifully.  Also the hardener is fantastic. read more

I contacted ProWorks to replace some trim and look at a small floor repair at our rental house, and they unfortunately no-showed on me. It was human error, but I ended up leaving work early, waiting at the house for 45 minutes, and they put me completely on the wrong date. It was a bummer because I was scheduled so incorrectly that they didn't even realize they missed my appointment until I called. I know things like this happen, but I was on a tight timeline while the house was vacant and was really depending on them to come through. I didn't end up rescheduling with them because I couldn't take the risk of a no-show again. read more

I requested an estimate for replacing our carpet padding. Scheduled it a couple weeks in advance, morning of I'm told the guy got held up at a job. Okay fine it happens, they rescheduled for the next morning and he showed up. I was told I'd be emailed the estimate in a couple days. It took a couple weeks and they profusely apologized for how long it took due to a simple oversight. The job was able to be scheduled shortly after getting the estimate, which was fair. The work They did was phenomenal and it was done quickly as well. During the install we pointed out they forgot to do part of the install and it was done and fixed in 10min I would highly recommend them despite getting off on the wrong foot. Pricing was comparable to other quotes I got, but I chose to hire ProWorks due to how professional and easy they are to work with. They did sub-floor repairs and new flooring in my living room, dining room, kitchen, and hallway. Very professional and good communication. Quality is lacking. It looks good from a distance. One thing I didn't realize going into my hardwood flooring project is that they use subcontractors, meaning you can get this job done for a lower price for the exact same product if you shop around enough. It also means the people quoting you aren't the people doing the work. I went with ProWorks because I liked their communication while quoting the project and their price was competitive. When the actual doers of the work arrived, the language barrier entered the equation. A lot of debris ended up on the floor when our floors were sealed and you can see and feel it. I think this could've been avoided or minimized if they had told us to close up the house for that final cleaning and finishing step. But we had all the doors and windows open and it was windy and probably made it difficult to keep it clean. They never said a thing about closing up the house and we have zero experience doing hardwoods so it never occurred to us. Also, we had existing hardwoods that were refinished and feathered into the new floors. The refinishing quality is not the best, see photo of gaps left in the old flooring. I might use them again for a flip if they're the low price, but I wouldn't use them for my own home again. read more

Approx 1,000 sq ft. Removed tile and carpet, installed finish in place walnut wood floors, finished, replaced baseboards. The project went very well. They put hardwood on our ENTIRE main floor. There were less expensive estimates but it was certainly worth the money. The installation went smoothly and with few issues that were all taken care of quickly and with no complaints from Proworks. They had to make a few touch-up trips which wasn't a problem at all. Bonus - they take credit cards (that's a lot of miles). The floors look beautiful and they took care of the job from beginning to end - moving out furniture, demo, install, finish, baseboards and clean up. Highly recommend them. If you have a dog, be advised - you have to get soft claws. read more

We moved into a new home and wanted our dinning room floor (which was carpet) to be hardwood so the kitchen hardwood floor flowed right into the dinning room. Anthony and Mark came out and let us know it might look a little off to have an older kitchen floor with a new dinning room floor but gave me prices on both options - just the dinning room or refinishing the kitchen floor at the same time as the dinning room. No pressure just gave me the options. I'm glad we chose to refinish the kitchen floor at the same time because now everything looks perfect. Those guys work hard and are very fast! We are so pleased with our new hickory hardwood flooring. We replaced all of the carpet on our main floor with this hardwood. A fairly large job that covered 1200 SF. We had pro works install our floors we ordered from lumber liquidators. As far as quality of install goes they are top notch. We have a curved staircase so they had to hand bend thin strips of walnut to male it look right and the end product is great. There are a few spots where the floor is not totally level but this is most likely due to the subfloor being uneven. Looking back I would have ordered raw wood from ProWorks and had them install and finish for a more polished look. Customer service was helpful throughout and their price was competitive. We had carpeting in our family room and soft pine hardwoods throughout the rest of the first floor. They removed the carpeting weaved in matching hardwoods, sanded the entire old flooring and then refinished all the floors. Additionally, they put in new up to date baseboards. They did an absolute fabulous job matching the wood and the workmanship on all the work done was very good and good attention to details. All people we were in contact with are very friendly and listened to what was needed. The only room for improvement was we had some scheduling/coordination issues but all worked out well in the end.
