NOT YOUR AVERAGE CONTRACTOR! I had Miah frame out walls and put up shelves and dry wall, paint and tile a fireplace hearth in a basement. He texted me back right away whenever I texted him, came when he said he was going to come, gave me a great price and was great when unexpected issues came up. I was very happy with the work he did and I would hire him again if I need any more work on my home or rental property. I would highly recommend him to anyone looking for a contractor who wants something done well, in a timely fashion and for a great price. read more

Miah and his crew exceeded my expectations on our basement remodel. Their fair pricing was transparent, and the quality of workmanship on my project was outstanding. Miah is a straight shooter--he's upfront about what he can do and a couple of things doesn't like to do, which made planning easy. I've rarely encountered reliable or trustworthy contractors of Miah's caliber. If you need a dependable construction partner in or near Denver who delivers on promises, I strongly recommend Black River Construction read more

We only have excellent things to say about Miah and his team for their work on our Tudor-style house in Denver that was built in the 1930s. After reading other positive reviews, we contacted Miah about our downstairs bathroom, which was poorly constructed 12+ years ago by another contractor. Miah quickly diagnosed the problem, clearly explained how he would execute the job, and worked closely with us to develop a plan. He was super-communicative throughout the process, and he and every one of his subcontractors were professional and did excellent work. We found the price to be reasonable, especially for the quality of work delivered. We also had a few other unrelated smaller projects around the house that needed to be done, and Miah's subcontractors handled them quickly and easily. All of the work was done in a timely manner. We highly recommend Miah and Black River Construction! read more

We hired Black River Construction for a bathroom remodel and are so happy with the result. Miah created the design we had in mind and the professionalism and craftsmanship from the various tradespeople was outstanding. Miah kept us informed about the work schedule and visited often to check the progress. The cost of the project was about mid range of other bids we obtained. We're so glad we chose Black River for the remodel and will definitely contact them for future projects. read more

This is our 3rd time using Miah/Black River and will keep doing so. Always responsive, professional and competitive. Wanted some extra space in our house during COVID times by taking down some walls in our utility room and moving/adding new electrical to add space for an office and small lounge we could escape to! Miah was the first to respond with a timely and reasonable quote... others took days to return our calls and weeks to provide overpriced quotes. He and his team were quick, responsive, professional, friendly, COVID aware, and made sure the final result was to our liking. There was even a surprise plumbing pipe hiding in one of the walls and Miah was able to get a plumber out last minute to assess and remedy the situation without delay. If we have any more home remodeling needs we won't hesitate to go with Black River Construction again. read more

Let me start by saying I am in love with my newly remodeled tiny bathroom. Miah responded quickly to my request for an assessment of the job, gave me some honest feedback on what it would take to completely redo the botched job done by the first contractor---believe me, it was a complete horror. I appreciated his direct communication and found it very easy to work with Miah. He scheduled the subcontractors, who all came to do the work when scheduled with only a couple of exceptions. Subs were respectful of my home, friendly and did quality work. When something wasn't exactly right, Miah had the subcontractors return quickly to remedy the problem. Everybody was a pleasure to work with and I now have a lovely new shower and updated bathroom. I've already recommend Miah to friends who want some remodel work done and would definitely use him again read more

Miah and team did a fantastic job. Our bathroom had been built improperly years ago and we had been dealing with numerous issues and emergency fixes. To finally have it torn down and rebuilt properly gives us such peace of mind. This was the first time I had remodeled a part of our home. Miah was patient, gave helpful suggestions and worked with us as we figured out what would work best in the space. The tile work was beautifully done and opening the shower with a glass wall completely transformed the space. We are so happy with the finished product. read more

I called Miah a few months ago about putting a bathroom in the upstairs of my house. The space was, for the most part, unfinished and had no plumbing running to it, so I had struggled to find a builder who would do the work for a reasonable price. Miah came over to take a look, and while he recognized that it would be a tough job, he had a solid vision for the space and gave a good estimate. We started construction a few months later, and the first order of business was plumbing. Nate, the plumber that Miah works with is top notch. He figured out the right configuration to squeeze a few pipes into the walls of my 130 year old house and within a few days had the space roughed in! I was ecstatic, as my other estimates had suggested this would be nearly impossible. Once we had that in place, Miah took over construction of a small wall for the shower and framed in the plumbing. You would never know what was behind the wall after he framed it and had his drywall guys cover it up. Things went smoothly with the tiling as Miah's tile subcontractor, Solimon, come in and knocked out the job in a few days. At this point the room had taken shape and I was truly surprised at the space Miah had shaped out of an oddly proportioned room. The recommendations on placement and Miah's suggestion to build a half wall for the shower meant that the whole room felt open and accessible. The final product is just incredible. I was so excited to use the room that I pestered my partner to move her things upstairs as soon as the sink was connected. The shower ended up being about twice the size I thought we could fit, and the toilet is nicely spaced. So far, the room has elicited nothing but jealousy from friends. Miah was a pleasure to work with and while there were a few hiccups (old houses have lots of surprises behind the walls), the project was finished pretty quickly and close to the original estimate. The final product surpassed all expectations! read more

If you live in the Denver area then perhaps you have experienced the nightmare that is finding anyone reliable to do a small to mid-sized residential job. After a long and annoying search I got lucky and connected with Miah. The job we had was a relatively small restoration job in a basement. Some drywall repair, painting, trim/door frame replacement, and about 10-15 linear feet of full wall height shelving built in a storage room. Miah, not only showed up to give a quote (when promised), but actually wrote one up, was communicative, and wasn't trying to lie, cheat, or screw us over - so for that alone, I'd give him 5 stars. But, with the work done, I am happy we went with BCR as everything is better than it was and done in a timely manner and was a very smooth process. Miah is a good guy and his work shows for it - if you need something done, I'd recommend Black River! read more

I recently had a complete master bathroom remodel. Because this was an important job to us, I really wanted someone trustworthy and honest for the project. After doing a lot of research, I selected Black River Construction. It was the right choice. They did an outstanding job, and I am very happy with the results. When selecting a contractor, you always want good communication. In working with Miah, we had great communication during the whole process. If there was a question, change, or issue, he was quick to respond and made everything run smoothly. There was never any waiting, or concerns, and I respect that. My finished master bath is truly a premium product. I trust Miah / BRC, and I will be using them for my future remodeling projects. read more

Miah and his team are AMAZING! Our project consisted of 2 remodeled bathrooms and a hardwood floor refinish job in our kitchen. The quality of the work was unbelievable from plumbing to tile work to floors to paint. Every single person working on each aspect of the job was incredibly talented at what they do, in addition to being very professional and all around nice guys. Everyone was passionate about doing the job right and was very attentive to the details. Miah did a fantastic job of communicating with us throughout the project and managing the team. We always knew when people were coming and what to expect. His prices were very reasonable and fair. When we need more work done, we will 100% call Miah without hesitation. I got a handful of estimates for our basement bathroom remodel. Miah was the only one I found on Yelp, everyone who had actually had work done by him had great things to say. The reviews were accurate - we couldn't be more happy with the process and results of the work done by Black River Construction. As others have said, Miah says what he'll do and does what he says. Digging up concrete and knocking through walls in a 70 year old house there are bound to be some surprises, but the only extra costs we incurred were add-ons that we chose. He's punctual and accessible, got the job done in the time frame he'd given us, and our two year old still talks about him. The kind of guy you'd want in and out of your house for eight weeks. And his sub-contractors are top notch, we ended up using them for the rest of the basement remodel after seeing the work they did in the basement. Not the experience I expected after having major projects completed in the past by other GCs. Our neighbors are 6 months in to their basement remodel and still haggling with their (not independently owned and operated) remodel company about some overcharges. I always try to go with the small business owner for the personal touch. Miah cares, and it comes through in his work. Thank you Miah! -Brett, Aviva, and Emmett read more

As new homeowners, finding a reliable company to do work on your house is stressful. After having a few other people flake on us, I found Black River Construction, and I'm happy I did. We had Miah and his guys out to remodel our master shower, and it looks and works great. Miah is great at communicating, is quick to respond, and was willing to answer all of my questions. All of the people that were needed to finish the project we're all very respectful of our house and time, and did high quality work. From the plumber, to the tilers, and the glass guys, they were all great. When we inevitably want to get working on another project, Miah will be my first call. read more

Maybe you've read my Do It Yourself Road Map. Maybe that inspired you to tackle that basement remodel. Maybe now you have a huge gaping hole in your basement wall and deep down you realize that you're in over your head. I highly recommend Miah of Black River Construction. Like Mighty Mouse, he'll come and save the day. He has over 10 years experience and is an excellent all-around contractor. I can personally attest to his carpentry, tiling, drywalling, and brick laying skills. Very reasonable flat rate hourly fee. He provides receipts for all purchases, so you know he's not marking up the supplies. Great communication. He provides ideas, listens to yours, and when the project mushrooms (as they always do in older homes) he lets you know what's going on and you decide where to go from there. Absolute dedication to quality. I've never met anyone, let alone a contractor, who was actually pickier than I was. He will lay your tile perfectly, or he won't sleep well that night. A rare trait, and one I appreciated. Additionally, he subcontracted the electrical work to a trusted electrician, again showing his interest in quality first. I'm sure he could have done the work himself, but he felt an electrician could do it better. Miah cleaned up after himself every single day. The beginning of the project was a lot of demo of plaster and lathe. If you have any experience with this stuff you'll know that taking it down is a total pain and extremely super messy dusty. Cleaning that up was not easy. He arrived when he said he would. No showing up super early and surprising you, no coming to work at noon. Punctual. With this trustworthiness, the best prices, and the best quality, the only reason you might not choose Miah for your home improvement project is that he works alone. He wouldn't trust any one else to do as good a job as he does! So if you have a massive project that needs to get done by Saturday before your in-laws come, his quote might not be the fastest. read more

I wish I could rate these guys, but that would require that they send the bid they promised almost a month ago. During the phone call and the subsequent estimate, they continued to go on and on about how busy they were. I guess this extreme "busy-season" precludes them from getting back to people with cash in hand to spend on remodeling. I also thought it was interesting that they "don't give written estimates." I understand wanting to take time to give a good estimate that is indicative of the money it would take to complete the job, but I guess that a good explanation is that "we don't send written estimates because it is all we would be doing." I understand being busy, but customers want someone who can honor a commitment and not portray that their patronage is a burden. If you don't want the job, pass on it, but TELL your customer that is the case. It's unfortunate; there seem to be some great reviews here and I'm sure the work they actually do is good. However, when you respond to potential customers in a poor manner, I don't understand how you expect your business to be successful. read more

I called Miah and Sean at Black River to put in a new bathroom and Egress window into my basement based on their reviews on Yelp. Within one week of agreeing on the estimate, Miah and Sean were putting in the Egress window, and by the following week they had started putting up the framing. I've never even heard of contractors that work that fast and are that punctual--most of my friends who have used contractors in Denver have to wait weeks to start their job and even then the work is shoddy. They were easy to contact via phone and email, and when they found a problem with my electrical system in my old house, they took steps to repair it the right way instead of ignoring it. The bathroom is beautiful and exactly what I wanted. I did have one problem with the shower door being lopsided upon installation, but eventually they did come back to fix it. I would have given them one 1/2 star off for this, but since they did a great job with the repair and 4 1/2 stars isn't an option, they get 5 stars. Highly trustworthy and highly recommended in my book. read more

OK, so here is how my years going, had two eye surgeries, girlfriend broke her foot, and then our basement ceiling caves in from an ice-maker leak. After a water mitigation company...which means demolition in English...finishes ripping up half my kitchen, basement and dining room, I've got to put everything back. I look on Yelp and either Miah has a lot of relatives or he is frickin awesome at his gig. Guess what, its number two..he and his crew came and made everything better than it was originally. I could not recommend them more highly...and no, I am not family. Its nice to know there are still honorable contractors on the planet ( at least one). I get the impression dealing with service people is like throwing darts. You focus on the goal, use your best finesse- let that baby fly and still just hope for the best. I'm usually happy to hit the board but this time I got the bulls-eye! Black River is the service company you hope to get. The work is premium. Done thoroughly, done timely and done well, passing all inspections along the way. Miah is a contractor you don't mind inviting into your home. He is descent, honest and true to his word. He is dependable, diligent, communicative, and easy to deal with. My task: Basement finish and add 2nd bathroom. Miah descended into my dark, mid-demo stage basement and promptly lit a fire under my project. He began by saving me hundreds of dollars off another company's concrete excavation quote for the new plumbing. He then saved me a few more hundred by recommending a very competent Master plumber. After a few days tick by he had my basement walls covered with code-perfect framing. Another Miah referral later...a Master electrician arrives to set up the lights. And the drywall? Need you wonder? Miah set me up with more quality, code-compliant professionals. I feel fortunate to know Miah, like I have this "rare gem" that all others covet but few can have! When I walk around my finished basement I think: "I have exactly what I wanted, I'm on budget and I'm happy all because I made one phone call to Black River Construction." This is the one. read more

Miah was friendly, reasonably priced, and was very flexible to fit me into his schedule. He worked quickly and did an outstanding job installing my baseboards. If you're fortunate enough to have the option of contracting with Miah and his crew at Black River Construction, then absolutely take it. You won't be disappointed. I am so happy we found and hired Miah to handle our small remodeling project! The entire process, from hiring him to finishing the project, took a little over a week. This is amazing considering some of the other contractors said our project was either too small or they were too busy to get to us for 2-3 months. Miah came out and gave us a quote on the spot and it was right in line with other quotes we received. He was personable, clean, and understood exactly what we were going for. During the project there were some unexpected wiring issues due to the original construction of our home and Miah had to get a plumber and electrician involved. Both were there the next day and had our wiring issues solved right away. If Miah hadn't coordinated that for us who knows how long it would have taken! I would highly recommend Miah to anybody looking for a contractor for a big or small project. He is incredibly professional and keeps you up to date every step of the way so there are no surprises. read more

We hired Miah to finish our basement. It was a big project - gutting, designing, rebuilding, and finishing. We got a couple other quotes from other general contractors for the project - some less expensive, some about the same. At the end of the day, we chose the one that we felt most comfortable with having unlimited access to our house for weeks and that we thought would do the best work. Miah was very professional and friendly throughout the whole process. His number one goal was our satisfaction. And we now love our finished basement! Miah did a fantastic job. The trim, paint, closets, drywall, tiling, and everything he did looks great. He offered solutions when we ran into a hiccup, and immediately fixed them. The sub contractors he works with are very professional and willing to help too. They even offered to install new toilets in our upstairs bathrooms at no cost at the same time they installed the toilet in the basement. I highly recommend Miah for your general contracting needs. If we do any more remodeling, we will definitely hire him again! read more

My family and I had a great experience with Black River Construction. We were in a race to have a section of our basement to be remodeled into a bedroom to make room for our arriving daughter! Because of how busy contractors are, especially for small projects, I lowered my standards and went with a contractor that just moved to the area. He did an absolutely awful job, was still "working" on the project well after our daughter was born, and in the end used all of our money without doing more than half of the job. I wonder if the guy had ever used a hammer before. We were desperate to find a contractor that above all had integrity, but also was professional and reasonable. We needed the majority of the previous contractor's work that was of poor quality to be replaced, and help us complete our room so we would have a place for our new daughter to sleep. We received three estimates. Miah was not the cheapest, but his eye for detail and honesty about what needed to be done convinced us. Also, his estimate was very thorough and itemized, which was a great comfort. Through the project, his communication was great and he was at our house when he said he would be. I also cannot say enough about the sub-contractors he used. They were very friendly great guys, and I felt very comfortable with them working on our house while my wife and daughter were home, or while we were on vacation. In the end, we are very pleased with our new room- we just wish we had started with Miah and Black River Construction from the beginning! Don't be fooled by new contractors in the area with little experience and false promises of quick delivery and unrealistically low costs- do your homework and find someone with integrity and experience that will do the job right the first time for a fair price. Miah is that guy! read more
