Shortly after, I received a response from the business advising me that they did not currently have the capacity for our project. Understanding the circumstance, but also willing to wait for the right team, I responded and asked the business to let me know if that changed in the future, as we have several projects in our home and are hoping to bring the same team aboard for all of them. I then received the attached response offering a completely different explanation than before. I did a lot of research on the contractors I interviewed and I read each and every review I could find. From the moment we met Josh we were impressed that he got what we were trying to do with the revocation project. Josh came up with creative solutions to the problems we presented to him. One challenge was that we would be out of town for the bulk of the project. We needed someone we could trust and someone who wouldn't need too much hand holding from us. We also wanted to work with a designer and we wanted someone who could cooperate with our designers. We awarded the contract to Empirical and we were thrilled with the results. Our project entailed a complete main bathroom and kitchen remodel. We also needed to have new oak flooring installed and to refinish the original hardwood to match the new flooring. Because the house was built in the 1950's, the plumbing and electrical needed to be upgraded as well. Empirical did the job by the book and pulled permits and helped us find a company to test for lead. They did the job the right way. The right way was provided to us with a good value for our money. Chuck was our project manager and he did an outstanding job. He checked in with us weekly by video chat to give us updates. Chuck is a problem solver and I think Empirical is lucky to have him. I shopped around for a quote on a kitchen and master bathroom remodel. I picked Josh because of his responsiveness and I liked that his quote included architectural drawings so I could envision what we discussed. He spent the most time on a quote for a project he was not guaranteed to win, so that's what drew me in. He was also super nice and patient so that helped too :). I'll be honest- the process started off a little bit rocky and we had a roller coaster ride throughout the project but none of it was a major problem or anything. Most were minor things due to simple miscommunication. I believe this type of stuff happens with any contractor you go with on any type of construction process. Our project manager, Chuck, was fantastic. He was extremely responsive and has a really big heart. He was extremely patient with us, never said no, never made us feel bad for asking him to do anything (even the tiniest little request), and most of all, he cared so much about doing whatever it took to make us happy. He worked his butt off to get every tiny detail the way we wanted it to be. He also loves dogs so we loved watching him interact with our pup. I can't say enough about how hard Chuck worked to make us happy. He is super down to earth and overall just a fantastic person to know- just a really good guy. He also has a super cute kid. ;) Fast forward to the end- Chuck, Josh, and their team did an absolutely fantastic job making our dream kitchen and bathroom come true. The results are just stunning. I'm glad I looked at Yelp for reviews, because this is how we found Empirical Construction. We talked to a few other contractors but stopped after we met with Josh at our consult. We started our construction at the beginning of the Coronavirus, which turned into the stay home orders. Josh & his team asked us what we were comfortable with, and respected our decisions. We were having our basement finished - and all the workers used the 'emergency' exit to go in & out - we never encountered anyone in the weeks it took to complete. The estimate was spot on, time and money. Josh & Aaron know enough by experience, how long inspectors would take, even with the pandemic no less, so 'the wait for inspection' time was still in the original estimate duration. There were no additional charges - but let me be clear - we also did NOT change, add, remove anything from our original vision and design. The craftsmanship was impeccable. The basement looks like it was part of the original build. If it wasn't for my before pictures, I would not believe it's the same house. We've had plenty of contractors for various works, over the past 20 years, but Empirical was absolutely, the best to work with. Not just because of their quality of work that execute on all their tasks, (tile, flooring, dry wall, painting, plumbing, electrical) but project management. This always is the biggest pet peeve on an home project we do, because we have to hunt down the company - "are you coming today", "what's next"... But NOT with Empirical. Josh & Aaron stayed in constant contact, that we NEVER wondered "what would happen tomorrow'.. So glad we found them, and would use them again for any other project needed!! read more

Honest, trustworthy and hardworking General Contractor We have had a wonderful experience with Josh from Empirical Construction over the past 6 months of our very large "gut job" construction project of our home. He was physically at our house every day and oversaw every last detail of the job. His quality standards are high and he is very detail oriented which we appreciated. We have a historic home and wished to maximize form and function for our family while also maintaining historic charm and character. Josh was helpful in this process and helped us find solutions, such as a hardwood that would match the original flooring, that we are very happy with. We were very happy with all of the subcontractors that he works with as well. Perhaps most importantly, we finished ON TIME and ON BUDGET. Who can say that about a massive renovation project?? The only overages/delays we had were due to us (the owners) expanding the scope, and a couple of unforeseen structural issues from our very old (1903) house. Otherwise, the original budget and project schedule tied back. Each time we encountered unforeseen issues (e.g. structural floorboards that had been cut), Josh was very up front with us in explaining the issue and all of our potential solutions, with cost and timing implications. We were able to come to some happy medium solutions where we didn't completely blow our budget but also ensured our house was safe and done right. We hired Empirical to finish our basement over the summer and they did a fantastic job! I interviewed several contractors and Josh was the most professional that I spoke with. He came prepared with lots of information and documentation at our initial meeting. He was very quick to respond and he had an idea for the layout that no one else had thought of. Once things got rolling our project manager was Chuck and I can't speak highly enough of him. He and his team were very professional and everything was completed to our expectations and in some cases beyond. Chuck did a great job of always checking to make sure things were done the right way and if he thought it wasn't good enough he made sure it got done to his standards. He is without a doubt the best contractor I've ever worked with. As far as budget and timeline goes the only things that went over budget were things that we decided to change or upgrade. The timeline also went as expected. Before they even started they gave us an estimate but also told to expect some delays. We expected it to be done by the end of the summer and it was. Walls were removed, new framing put up, popcorn ceiling scraped, floors refinished, cabinets and counter tops were installed. Our main floor was completely transformed. The end result was exactly what we wanted and the project came in on budget even though we had a number of change requests. Who says great contractors are hard to find? Look no further - because Josh and his crew are the best of the best! We recently completed a full remodel of our Kitchen and Family Room as well as refinishing all of the hardwood floors throughout our house. We could not be happier with the results and the work that was done by Empirical. Our positive experience started with the bid that Josh did. We had 5 companies bid, and 4 of them gave us bids that were based on their labor costs plus materials. This made it difficult to understand what the true final costs were going to be....it really felt that they were giving a broad estimate with plenty of room for overages. Josh was the only GC who had all of his subs meet him at our house for 90 minutes, walked the details of the project with them and with us and provided us with a final bid that was inclusive of all costs and materials. It was far more detailed than any other contractor - and ultimately he came in on budget at the end of the project....a huge accomplishment in like of the size and scope of this very large project. His work was fantastic - he was on site everyday, communicated proactively with us during every step of the project, and held all of the workers accountable to a very high standard of work and finish. He takes pride in the quality and doesn't take shortcuts just to get the job done. He was also very accommodating when I needed to order some of the materials from vendors other than his standard ones. We also appreciated his flexibility when drawing up the contract (upgrades, add-ins, specialty finishes) which made him stand out from other contractors, who tend to offer a one size fits all solution to any problem. We called Josh at Empirical Construction after a horrible experience with a different contracting company left our 1905 Victorian home in disarray. We decided to take over the job ourselves, however needed some expert opinion to help guide us through permitting and building. Josh jumped right into our job without hesitation. Josh from Empirical Construction handled the remodel of our living room/kitchen area. We needed to take down a wall surrounding a stairway to open up the kitchen to the living room. The work required the roof to be re-enforced, extensive electrical work, framing, decorative woodworking and dry wall. I had had other dry wall contractors come in and tell me that they could not match the original texturing of the ceiling but the contractor Josh found had no problem matching the texture and did a fantastic job. We also had our wood floors refinished and couldn't be happier. All the contractors that Josh arranged to complete the work were professional and completed the work in the agreed amount of time. Empirical did a great job with our kitchen renovation! The day before we were scheduled to start construction, Chuck came up with a brilliant idea to rearrange the layout, and we're so glad he did. Chuck did a great job of managing the whole project, was on site most days, and was always responsive when questions came up.
