I was scrolling GrubHub and saw this place and the name struck me as familiar. Then I realized I'd heard an influencer talking about it. Usually, I am wary of what influencers say, but this food looked good and I was finally in Williamsburg to try it, so why not?! I'm so glad I did. I got the salmon box. I have no idea how they prepare the salmon, but it is so flavorful and juicy. I had to stop myself from eating it all at once and having none to eat with my other sides. As for those. The box came with a few tiny lil sides; a little salad, some radish, some purple rice and some brussels sprouts. I also added a sauce for $1 and an extra side of brussels. Everything was delicious and I can't wait to eat here again.
Ever since I tried homecooked chicken nanban in Japan, I've been eager to find places in the city that serve it. ACRE's version is quite good, and I appreciate the purple rice and salad accompaniments. The space is interesting. The front of the restaurant is basically a home goods/gifts store where you can order your food. After you order and pay, you can sit in the back seating area, where you pick up your food at a counter when your buzzer beeps. So it's not a full-service restaurant, but more of a pretentious cafeteria, lol. It felt a bit wasteful to be eating in and to use disposable trays and chopsticks. It's a good option if you're looking for a casual but homey place to eat a balanced meal. No tap water offered, so be prepared to pay for a drink or to bring your own.
Such an adorable spot! Would def be a good area to study. So many cute little trinkets at the front where you order as well. Their hochija and matcha are so yummy. salmon bento: 4.5/5 cooked rly well, wish I could taste some more of the miso marinade pork katsu: 3/5 kinda dry and sauce didn't hit as hard for me Nanban: 5/5 I rly loved the chicken karaage and chicken nanban bento!! just so perfectly crispy with addicting sauces Matcha croissant: 3.5/5 yummmmy!! wish they could heat it up slightly
I love that Acre is a restaurant, cafe, and shop, all in one! Their bento lunch sets are amazing - I tried salmon saikyo-miso and loved all the sides. The salmon was so fresh and tender. Their mango matcha is really refreshing! I am definitely coming back to try more of their menu. They have a bit of outdoor seating in the front, as well as a larger outdoor area in the back. The interior also has a large seating area. The front is the cafe and where small household items are sold. The staff are all so friendly.
Came here on a Friday afternoon after a long day out in the sun. My friend got the fried chicken karaage bento, and I got the salmon bento. They were $25 and $26, respectively. This is a very simple meal, and everything is lightly seasoned. The karaage was crispy with a slightly tangy sauce. The salmon was pretty thin and mostly seasoned with just salt. If I'm ever in the area and trying to eat something healthy, I would come back again! I wish the salmon was a bit saltier and less oily, but it was a good meal nonetheless.
I love this place! I've been several times and never have any complaints. I'm always searching for authentic Japanese food, having grown up in Japan. They've got great pastries, drinks, and little trinkets in the front. You get a buzzer and can seat yourself in the back - there's indoor seats and outdoor / shed seating. Recently I've gotten the chicken nanban and the egg salad sandwich and they were both very satisfying. Service was great and the ambiance was nice. Love how the owner is actually Japanese too!
Loved the fun summer-y drink options! Had to indulge in the iced matcha mango latte and the chicken karaage bento box for sustenance. Both were delicious and enjoyed in the back garden with a lush view of the plant life and brick walls. It's a self-service place where you get a buzzer and pickup your tray when it's ready. You also can throw away your trash and place the tray in the designated area. It was quite busy as the line went out the door on a Saturday afternoon. However, there were seats inside and out so most people were to-gos.
When you're in a low appetite mood, a Japanese bento is the right fix Balanced, not too heavy, and a nice variety of eats. Acre does it so well, serving satisfying meals in a super welcoming, cozy space. Lots of natural light, with both indoor and outdoor seating, and that effortless Brooklyn charm They also sell rly cute home goods too. For the bentos, the sides are all the same with well seasoned protein, rice, salad, pickled radish, and charred brussel sprouts! ACRE sits among the great businesses in Greenpoint's Little Japan neighborhood, appealing to those looking for home decor or a meal. When you step in you'll find yourself in their retail store, with shelves of ceramic bowls, plates, wooden utensils, kind of like a fancier Muji. They also have bottles of sake and some kitchen supplies like sauces for sale. Make your way to the back for their restaurant, and you'll see a generous amount of seating, probably enough for like 40 people or so. There's even a backyard with tables and chairs, a dining area that looks just as large as the one inside, though it was too cold for me to hang out back there. Inside, it's reminiscent of a nice cafeteria, and there's no table service, so I found the $25+ price tag for the lunch sets a bit high. The karaage set came with purple rice and a salad and was pretty tasty, as was the hojicha latte I got to wash it all down with. As charming as the place was, I don't think I'm running back. The portions were too small, but that might be my American appetite talking.
The food and the vibes are elite. The lines are long, but there are places to sit. They even have an outside portion in the back where you can sit and relax. The food portions are small but very filling. The karaage bento box is worth it as well as the chicken nan ban bento box. Their drinks and dessert are tasty as well.
I stumbled in here because Radio Bakery had a long line and boy was I THANKFUL for that... The matcha was so incredibly good that it didn't require any sweetener. The pastry was incredibly moist and tasty. And the ambience of the gift shop area was to die for!! It was literally so good here that I ran back the next day for a matcha... I'd love to get lunch here soon.
I can't believe I waited 45 minutes standing in line...for a very subpar hojicha latte. It was so grainy, each sip was choking down granules and coughing up dust. Didn't order food, but I hope it's better than their drinks. Added a star because their matcha cake was moist and not sweet, service was friendly. Wanted to like this place but I can't believe a standard drink like a hojicha latte was so bad. I'm really sad I had to go to a different spot to get a different drink to wash down the attack on my throat. read more
Chicken Nanban Bento Box was filled with flavor. The chicken was soft and marinated nicely with the amazing tartar sauce brought the dish together. Edamame with the salad plus some sort of yuzu dressing. Not the biggest fan of purple rice but it was decent with the chicken. The Aonori French fries was mediocre. Not soft nor crunchy. Very subtle seaweed flavor. Also ordered a Hojicha Latte which was pretty good. I went on a Sunday and it was crowded the entire afternoon. For me, ACRE ticks all the boxes. It feels like a high end cafeteria, the kind you would see maybe in Spain or Italy. You order at the register and then you sit anywhere you can. There is outdoor seating in front, seating in an outdoor garden in back, barstools counter next to the register and a pretty large mess hall in the back. The food is very fresh and healthy. I had the salmon bento box and the hojicha and raspberry latte. Both were delicious. For hours after, I felt full but not bloated. Similar to how I feel after eating at the vegan chain Le Botaniste, which I also love and has a similar setup, Oh, and the service at ACRE was very good, except for the girl in back who looked confused and wanted to charge me for some extra salad dressing. The food and lattes aren't cheap so extra for dressing seemed odd. Other than that, I loved it and will go back. read more

On a Saturday brunch, it can be a bit stressful. You must place your order first at the cashier and pay. They would give you a pager. There were four of us, so my son scouted for a table after paying while my daughter and I waited for our drinks at the counter. It was packed. There was a line to place your order. But there were also cute and very unique kitchen paraphernalia to amuse you. Shortly after settling on our table, the pager buzzed: our food was ready. Open kitchen and they were busy. It was like a fancy cafeteria. Recyclable bento boxes filled with well made dishes. My salmon was properly charred with a mild piquant taste of Saikyo miso. It was buttery and delectable, pairing well with the purple rice. I tried my daughter's pork katsu and that was impressive: so tender! So delicious! Even the brussel sprouts were amazing. My matcha latte was weak though. It had no personality. My son said the ginger in white miso soup was kinda strong, but ginger never bothered me. I'm curious to try the chicken curry rice. The lady who took our orders was nice. But it was basically self-serve. read more
I came here on a Friday afternoon for lunch and it was relatively slow. The inside is very cute and they have a separate shopping and eating area. I got a chicken karaage sandwich and it was HUGE! I liked how the chicken karaage wasn't too fried and there was a lot of sauce on it. Knocking down a star because $14 for a sandwich is overpriced. read more

This place is just too cute cute cute! This restaurant uses Japanese methods of cooking, in which their menu offers salads and soups, bento boxes, and sandwiches; they also serve coffee, tea, and pastries. Unfortunately, we came a little bit too early for their lunch menu, but we had a great time perusing their little shop of cups and plates and other gift-worthy items. Really cute spot in Greenpoint that serves bento boxes for around $15 each. You are required to order at the counter, which you will then get a buzzer and you can sit at your table until your food is ready to be picked up. The food is really good and the scene/vibes are really cute (think of it as a great place to use your laptop and enjoy a nice coffee or lunch). The prices are a little more expensive than I'd like but hey it's 2023. The food is really good, I enjoyed everything I ordered, the veg katsu (fried potato) was very crispy, the brussel sprouts were very tasty and the fries that my friend got were delicious as well. A side of brussel sprouts, veg bento box and a water (bottled not free) will run you around $34. read more
This shop is sooooo cute! Adorable, chic, and welcoming from the outsides. The inside is minimalistic and artsy. They have a lot of products for sell in the front of the cafe where the register is. Lots of the products are of good quality and made from sustainable materials and resources. Staff were very friendly and patient. Line wasn't long when I was there but the wait took a little longer than expected. The bento style when the foods were served, made the concept of this place very cool and unique. Food was flavorful and tasty. It didn't come out as hot as I was hoping, so that's a bit disappointing. I really like the Nanban and how unique the combination of the chicken with the sauce and the eggs were! Very flavorful and the chicken was sooo juicy! I would get it again for sure. Overall, I have to admit that the food was good but in my opinion, nothing special that blows the taste profile out of the water. I'm glad I got to experience this place and will have to say that it's definitely worth trying once!!! read more
A cool Japanese inspired shop with aesthetic ceramic bowls/small trays selling in the front. It's completely self service, and you need to order before getting a seat in the back. They serve Sey coffee, which generally goes better with pourovers due to the lighter flavors. But the coffee is reasonably priced, so can't complain there. The bentos are definitely priced at a premium. The food comes in compostable containers and I believe Kinto brand trays. I had the tonkatsu bento, which was a good sized portion to leave satisfied. The meat quality is also juicy, lean, and decently crispy. Definitely want to come back to try others. The vibes of the place are great in front, but the line gets super long during peak hours and it becomes impossible to browse the ceramics. read more
Love this spot! Between the beautiful cermaics for sale up front to the open kitchen where they prepare your food in front of the indoor eating area, as well as the back patio where you can comfortably sip on your matcha latte. My favs here are the chicken karage sandwhich which highlights a the perfect bun with shredded cabbage, juicy seasoned chicken, and that addictive sauce to top it off. Prices are on the expensive side as expected in Williamsburg. But hey, they offer free glasses of water :) I will be back to try the bento boxes and some of their other featured drinks. read more
Had my eye on ACRE for a while and happy to say I've finally crossed it off my list! Visited on a Sunday around 3 pm. Though the kitchen closes at 4, the cafe/seating area is open until 5 so no need to feel rushed. I opted for a vanilla latte as my beverage, sampled a friend's scallion Parmesan scone, and did the chicken nanban bento with a side of aonori fries. the scone was fine (as my friend mentioned, would have been better toasted). I asked for my latte to be on the less sweet side with only a splash of syrup but it was very sweet so would maybe opt for a standard latte next time. The aonori fries were delish! they were salted just enough and had some truffle oil or other in there as well. nice and crispy and freshly fried, would definitely recommend. the nanban bento was definitely the showstopper here. every item in the bento was perfectly flavored- crispy chicken in a tangy sweet/sour sauce, great yuzu dressing on the salad, high quality rice, and my favorite was the little sampling of brussel sprouts. might have to get just a side order of the brussel sprouts next time! it initially seemed a bit pricey (paid $45 for 3 items with tip) but honestly its a lot of food and such high quality so i find it to be a good deal. I plan to be a regular here! read more
great food but definitely expensive just bc they can get away with it. the chicken nanban was tasty and refreshing and I particularly enjoyed the egg salad on top. friend and I got themango matcha and raspberry hojicha which were both just sweet and honestly not great. they have a nice ordering and service system but its not obvious how / where to order on your first visit. indoor and outdoor space are cute but always packed with people. read more

Japanese-Brooklyn cool and delicious. Wonderful egg salad sandwich and chicken karaage. Interior was spacious and felt Japanese - clean, minimal, easy background noise. A bit of a walk/subway trip from Financial District but worth the experience. read more

Quaint no frills japanese lunch spot with a small gift shop in the front with the cafe. Seating is first come first serve and the restaurant asks you order before claiming a spot. Turnover for seats is quick and can accommodate parties of 2 or 4, maybe 6 if you're able to nab one of the tables along the wall and combine table. I got the chicken kaarage and it was very flavorful and juicy. The dish was surprisingly filling and cost about $22. read more

Delicious Japanese eatery with nice bento boxes and cafe offerings. My partner and I decided to try their karage and vegetarian katsu bento boxes. Both were delicious but at the pricing of $20+ a box, we felt that it was a bit overpriced. Thus, I would give ACRE a 4/5. Recommend the food, but cautious on the pricing. read more
Run to this place NOW. Really amazing food with service to match. Everything from the indoor/outdoor setup to the ambient music was meticulously designed to enhance your food experience. My egg salad sandwich was perfectly balanced, as was the chicken karaage bento box - even the seaweed seasoning on the fries! We had a hearty meal without the guilt of feeling too full or greasy. My only tip is to eat indoors. The outdoor seating is great for socializing but I saw a few mosquitoes out there before deciding to stay inside. Keep up the great work. - AT read more

Stumbled upon Acre when I was in the neighborhood offloading clothes at a thrift shop. The front of the shop has some interesting knick knacks and tchotchkes and the line builds up quick. There is a dining area in the back which was pretty full, but people were coming and going quickly so you should be able to fairly easily snag a spot. The chicken sandwich was delicious! Crispy, juicy, saucy.. everything you could want in a chicken sandwich. I ordered it with the side salad which was tasty and refreshing as well. Almost wished I got the bento box but everything tasted great so I didn't have any complaints. It's a little pricey at around $18 for a fast casual place, but the quality of the food is so good that I'd say it's worth it. read more

The only downside is it's a bit hard to eat! The shape of the chicken doesn't make for a clean sandwich -- we both ended up eating it deconstructed. This is still my most favorite japanese bento place in NYC. It really reminds me of Japan. I tried the salmon bento & coffee jelly this time. The salmon bento was extremely delicious - wow!! The salmon pieces were marinated so well and it was so damn tender. The purple rice, brussel sprouts, vingery daikon and salad all complimented the salmon so well. The food felt very delicious, homemade and it made me very happy. You honestly do taste the love in the food! The coffee jelly was good & interesting. You mix the cream with the coffee jelly and it tasted like tiramisu somehow. read more

I did A LOT of research and had pretty high hopes for a special (anniversary) breakfast on a chilly Saturday morning here. It was a little intimidating, but after a couple of minutes we figured out the "order, then sit" service model. Plus, the counter staff was exceptionally helpful and friendly. We got a table in the back, with the beautiful sun shining across it. And... The food! I didn't expect *this* I mean, I hoped for the best but everything was just unique and ideal. Honestly this place is not for me. The flavor was just too mild for me. I can see why people like it here. If you are into the taste of each item without any sauces this place is for you. Even the salad had minimal dressing. Like all the other new restaurants I have visited in this area, the signage outside was minimal. In this case very minimal. The inside was bright and well decorated with an open kitchen area. The food came quick. Thinking back on it, the service could have been a McDonald's. We ordered at a cashier. We went to the counter to get our food. We bused our own trays. Why did I give that 20% for? Nope not for me. Should have had another slice at Paulie Gees instead. Like all the other new restaurants I have visited in this area, the signage outside was minimal. In this case very minimal. The inside was bright and well decorated with an open kitchen area. 4.5 stars -.5 due to the line Loved the Japanese ceramics and products on the way in and however while being greeted with a huge line up. That makes sense considering how popular it is, but it would have been nice to have a separate line if you're just dining in vs. taking out. The space is large, bright and well lit. I felt welcomed and cozy on a bright sunny Brooklyn day. I met my friend there and we both ordered Hojicha lattes from their cafe menu and I ordered their popular chicken karage sandwich and my friend ordered their nanban chicken bento box. Surprisingly, the chicken was juicy, well-seasoned and crispy and the same time! My friend enjoyed her bento box a lot too because it also came with rice, potato salad and some other greens. It was her first well-portioned out meal in the whole week. Since the day was nice, we enjoyed sitting in the patio although there was also plenty of space in the dining room. Note: their branded hand wash in the bathroom was also incredibly aromatic, loved the scent. read more
ACRE provides solid, authentic Japanese bento lunch boxes and I highly recommend it. When you walk in, there are a bunch of cute ceramics & other Japanese food products (like Aomori apple juice, unique soy sauce, etc) on display for purchase. They are rather pricy but one day I'll buy some...one day... The seating is beyond the ordering area and is an open seating area where you can grab any seats. ACRE also offers outdoor seating both in front of the store as well as behind the store. You order at the cashier and then pick up your order in the open kitchen/seating area when it's called. You know it's authentic when everyone in the kitchen is a Japanese auntie, the food really tastes homemade. I've ordered the pork katsu bento box before and while it was pretty good, I found the pork to be a tad dry. My favorite order at ACRE right now is the chicken karaage bento box, the meat is super juicy and flavorful. The sides that come with it are tasty as well: purple rice, a salad, and some delicious brussels sprouts. To be honest, I'm not a huge veggie person (but I'm learning to be better at it) but the brussels sprouts was really delicious and well seasoned. I even asked the Japanese aunties at the counter what they cooked the brussels sprouts in and they just said the typical Japanese seasoning of soy sauce, mirin, and sake. My boyfriend and I have tried recreating how ACRE cooks their brussels sprouts at home but haven't succeeded yet. I guess we'll just have to come back to ACRE more to taste it and learn. Next to the cashier section, on the left there's also a display case of all sorts of tasty fusion desserts like matcha muffins, cakes, scallion parmesan scones, matcha almond croissants, etc. They were all pretty tasty! ACRE also has their own housemade ice cream and I was excited on my recent visit to see they had houjicha ice cream. Houjicha is a great flavor and I wish it was more popular, ACRE's houjicha ice cream is quite tasty. Definitely recommend ACRE, please do visit! read more
Acre is amazing. No reservations means get your butt over there if you want to eat. This place is open, spacious and clean. There is a back yard. The Chai tea tastes like chai. I always say that. Except unfortunately, when I don't. The bento box is great! All of them. I like Chicken. Order from the front, sit in the back. Sit in the back, eventually, you will figure out that you have to order from the front. Hov did that, so hopefully you won't have to go through that. read more

ACRE!! I love Acre so much. BEST MATCHA IN GREENPOINT. The matcha is smooth and perfect. Little tip ask for a dash of vanilla, just adds some extra sweetness with almond milk. The matcha cake loaf is also super tasty and delectable. I also really enjoyed their bento boxes. It's on the more expensive side around $25 + but it's worth it. Super flavorful and really nicely portioned out. I really wish Acre was open in the evening because I'd come here for dinner all the time. Highly recommend if you like authentic Asian cuisine and bento boxes! read more

The service here was great! Every staff member I talked to was very friendly and helpful. They have a small shop in the front where you take your order before sitting down. It has small trinkets, clothes, and homeware. The seating area is cafeteria-style, so you can sit at any open table and you have a buzzer to let you know when your food is ready to be picked up at the counter. * Karaage Bento Box - 10/10 - The Karaage was perfectly crispy and there was a good meat to batter ratio. Also, the mustard sauce on the karaage was delicious. * Pork Katsu Bento Box - 10/10 - The pork was a thick cut pork chop, so it didn't feel like you were just eating fried breadcrumbs. It was also juicy still. The pickled radish and sour salad dressing on both bento boxes helped balance out the fried meats. * Matcha Cake - 7/10 - The matcha flavor is strong, but the loaf was very dry, so would recommend drinking it with coffee or tea. * Scallion Parmesan Scone - 8/10 - They recommend heating it up which melts the cheese slightly and this was definitely the way to eat it. The scallion flavor with the saltiness of the Parmesan is a bit addicting. * Coffee Jello - 8.5/10 - I've never had a dish like this before. The coffee jello had a strong espresso taste and the panna cotta layer on top added a smooth sweetness to balance out the bitterness of the coffee. * Hojicha Latte - 8/10 - If you like matcha lattes, I recommend trying this drink because it elevates the green tea flavor and adds another layer of dimension to the flavors. Overall, I really enjoyed my meal here and I would come back to try their other bento boxes and sandwiches. It was pricey, but I think it was the perfect amount of food to satiate, but not overly stuff me. read more

This review is rather incomplete, because I haven't tried their food or matcha, and I almost certainly will be back to try those. As for their coffee, it wasn't anything spectacular. I got a cortado, and it had a really dark bitter taste; really felt like burnt beans. The cortado itself was made pretty well and had good balance of richness, but couldn't shake the bitterness. The ambience of the place is great; lots of cool Japanese inspired art, kitchenware, foods, etc., with good amount of seating for dine-in. Again, will be back to try the other options, just not the coffee specifically! read more

Probably one of the best chicken karaage I've had! The $13 side had big, generous chunks with shatteringly crunchy breading and I loved the shoyu koji mayo on top that was slightly acidic and not too thick, drizzable! There were some gelatinous gummy bits from the starch coating being so thick, but in turn you get so many ballous crunchy fried pockets (almost like tapioca pearls) to contrast the tender, well marinated meat. The small side of brussels with a soy sesame sauce were perfect too, fried but not greasy, soft on the inside. Could have had more crispiness but I like a good soggy crunchy moment. The yuzu slice and coffee were less memorable. The cake was quite crumbly and fluffy compared to regular lemon pound cake, but you could definitely taste the yuzu flavor! You do seat yourself in the communal seating area, which was pretty packed when we got there in the afternoon but tables emptied quickly. I originally came to browse the ceramics but I'd come just for the fried chicken!! read more
We ordered the yuzu vanilla cake with iced americano and cold brew. The yuzu vanilla cake was a bit dry and wasn't very moist. The Salmon Katsu bento box was pretty mid. Salmon did not taste too fresh and was very dry. The salmon was priced on the higher end of $24. The pork Katsu on the other hand was delicious and juicy. The pork Katsu was in thicker cuts and juicy on the inside. I would suggest getting this as your protein at this location. The pork Katsu is priced at $21. We came around 12:15pm on a Saturday and it was quite busy. 12-2pm is rush hour. Overall the food was enjoyable! read more
Came upon this place with the help of Yelp and it did not disappoint. This was the perfect place for a casual lunch.
