AMB saved my life! Well, at least my sanity. I bought a new iMAC, and when migrating data from my old iMac to the new one, I somehow 'lost' all of my photos (literally hundreds from 1999 - 2017!). I spent a lot of time on the phone with Apple, but they weren't able to help. I took the old machine and the time machine back-up drive into ABM and Jesse saved the day. Found all my photos and transferred them to a new portable drive. He also recommended a reasonable Cloud Storage company to avoid future issues. Great service! read more

I would not go to any other place for computer assistance. Sine I moved to Alameda 11 years ago, they have built me several computers that have been very satisfactory. The thing that I like best about them is the honest information I have received - often info that results in no sale for ABM as they send me off to another source that will cost me less money. I have sent several friends to ABM and later have heard them advising others to take computers there. STOP.... before you think of going to Alameda Business Machines. It's not the same company it was a few years ago. I used to love this place and the customer service was fantastic. Now, it's totally different. I needed work done on a laptop I bought from them. I called and spoke to a few people because I absolutely had to have the computer back over the weekend to complete a large project. I dropped it off as soon as they opened last Friday once again stressing that I had to have it back. They even wrote RUSH on it. On Saturday morning I called and was told it was on a technicians desk and I couldn't have it as there were no technicians there. This morning (Monday) I called and told them I was coming in to pick it up whether the work was completed or not. When I got there they hadn't even looked at it yet! Plus, no apologies or anything. I really should have read the Yelp reviews before I went there but they used to be so good. I'll never go back there again! read more

Went here for a basic laptop repair. I knew what the problem was (power problem) and expected it to be done quickly. Took it in and had to call in myself to get an update, and they said it was the motherboard, and it would be expensive to fix. I said forget it and picked it up. The man who worked on it (older gentleman) was very rude and spoke down to me. I gave the computer to a friend of mine who fixed it in 10 minutes. Had a Canon Printer that needed a new print head. Called A.B.M. Girl told me 1 hour labor charge to remove old Print Head .+ 1 hour labor charge to replace new Print Head, & of course the cost of the new P. H. This was going to cost more than the cost of a new printer, but that's not what pissed me off. Further inspection I discovered by flipping 1 lever I could removed the print head myself & reverse process to replace it. So they wanted to charge me 2 hours labor for 4 to 10 seconds worth of work.. (We all know labor charges ain't cheap) Did it myself and got the Print Head cheaper than their (print head) cost. Would have gladly given them the work if they had said 15 to 30 min. total labor charge, but not 2 hours. read more

Bringing my laptop to Alameda Business Machines was probably the BEST decision I've made in a long time. The two gals at the from were very helpful and greeted me right when I walked in. I thought my laptop was done for and was uneasy about the cost of the repair. Michael called me personally to go over the problems and solutions with me in terms I was able to understand. I recently took my PC into ABM Computers in January of this year to have several problems resolved. I brought it in on a Saturday afternoon and was pleasantly surprised to receive a phone call early Monday afternoon telling me that the PC had been cleaned up and was ready to pick up. I discovered there were still a couple of issues to deal with and called them back. I spoke with Kiyomi Miller who pulled up my invoice and asked to be allowed to take over my PC so she could resolve them. I agreed and she patiently and efficiently cleaned up the remaining issues, explained each problem and answered my many questions during the process. I have been using Alameda Business Machines (ABM) for about five years now and have never been disappointed. I run a small business that has one location in Alameda and we happen to have eight desktops each with multiple scanners, printers etc. connected to them. Over the years things just fail. ABM has always been quick on their diagnosis, quick with the repairs and fairly priced. I have other business locations in other cities as well so we use other similar companies for our repairs close to our other locations so I have a quite a few experiences and I will say that ABM is far better than any other computer repair business than I have ever encountered. Took my laptop to ABM and was woried I was going to have a major repair and cost. I discussed my issues and the staff were great and very helpful. When I picked up my laptop, the staff explained what was wrong and what was done to fix my laptop. My computer was repaired in 24 hrs. and the price was very reasonable. I bought a computer for 1750 a year ago and it was never built, my data wasn't transfered as promised in the contract and I have spent a year trying to get my money back, or even the empty computer they built but couldn't put my data on. I have not received a cent after a year of phone calls and emails. They firm is totally crooked and they have no intentions of doing anything they say. Bought a freshly built computer tower about 2 weeks ago. Now have more pop-ups and bullshit coming up than ever, along with all this missing dll crap to which I have no clue. My 2 year old laptop's keyboard failed. I took it to Alameda Business Machines for diagnosis and repair. I got a call 2 days later telling me it needed a new keyboard. After one week with no call, I stopped by. I asked the owner why a 2 year old keyboard would fail. He asked me if I had spilled anything on it (I had not). 5 days later I again stopped by to check on my laptop. The part was still on order. Since my laptop was intact I took it home. The clerk did check on a delivery date: 'in a few days'. I got a call yesterday morning, the part was in. I dropped off the laptop, it was done at 4 PM. When I picked it up I saw the old keyboard and commented 'there's not much to it'. The owner/tech said 'there is if you have to replace it', then walked away from me. At home I looked closer at the old keyboard. The flat wiring harness from the keyboard had a sharp fold in it. Logic says this could have caused the failure. The tech should also have seen this and discussed with me. The laptop is fixed, but my experience at Alameda Business Machines was less than pleasant. read more

one star for customer service. Merchandise 4 stars. I bought a laptop last year and after a trip or two back to the store it has worked very well. This week, as I was walking (because my car was in the shop) by the store I stopped in to ask about a connector I needed for some speakers I bought for my dvd player. I was shown a 3.5 mm audio cable, which when I got home also needed a connector. So I walked back to the store and they did not have any. I asked where I could get one and was told Radio Shack. I said abit too far for me to walk and Gef said he was going to Radio Shack that evening and would pick one up for me. Great customer service I thought. Two days later I stop by the store and was told it wasn't in yet. Then Gef says I haven't been to Radio Shack yet, I'll get it when I get it. I said what? then he says I am doing you a favor and did I expect him to go to Radio Shack just for that. And I said of course not, but I did not like his surly attitude one bit and told him so. He was extremely rude and for his bad behavior I would not be writing his review. Needless to say he has lost me as a customer and my daughter to whom I was going to recommend this place for a new laptop. Now I am not only an unhappy customer, I am an unhappy customer who is going to tell people how rude the owner of this business is. I have a job that requires I speak with lots of very unhappy people and I have never spoken to anyone like Gef spoke to me. read more

I had an issue with my laptop and so I went to them for advise and then eventually dropped it off for repair. I was very specific about my needs and wanted a phone call before starting the work to let me know what they were going to do and to give me an estimate. I know from my previous dealings with them that communication and follow thru is not there strong point. I had my laptop fixed and of course they never called so I'm thankful it was not hundreds of dollars. I just wanted to give some feedback on communicating more with the customer about the work they did and if they install software or add anything to your computer that was not discussed it would be nice to know when picking up(maybe write it on the inv/receipt). I had google chrome installed which is okay but I feel that's sort of personal. Also I had to update drivers and and reinstall a couple of things that were missing. I should have plugged my computer in and tested it before I left so I could see exactly what was done and address any concerns that I may have. I am grateful to have my computer back and I would probably use them again but I would simply ask more questions and turn the computer on and test it out before leaving. They tend to be very vague and they don't seem to want to explain with more detail assuming the customer fully understands. That's why you should always ask questions, feel comfortable about what's going on and don't let the fact that they seem bothered deter you. Thanks read more
