This is my go-to place for cupcakes, and this is HUGE coming from a sweet tooth. I've been a couple times to the Downtown one, but last weekend, I just grabbed one from here because I was in the area. I love carrot cake, and their carrot cake cupcake does justice (in my head). The cake is soft, the icing is perfect, and it's not toooo sweet. The amount of spice in it is right (as per my preferences). I wish they used walnuts instead of the lone Pecan, but it's not a deal-breaker for me. I've tried their coconut and red velvet previously as well, and they are good too. I've gone to this place a few times since it's close to work, and it has never disappointed. It's not so easy to make a standout cupcake, but this place does. The building entrance is in a strip mall, so it might be easy to miss, and the inside is just a counter to order and go. The workers are always super pleasant and helpful when making the difficult decision of what to get. I got the peanut butter cup and the sugar baby. I've gotten both before and they're so good I had to go back. The peanut butter cup has the perfect balance of peanut utter frosting to chocolate cake, and the cakes are always baked to perfection. Plus it has a mini Reese's pb cup that somehow disappeared before I managed to take a picture . The sugar cookie one has a small cookie on top, and is really a pretty basic vanilla cupcake with buttercream, but it's soooo good. I need to go back and try all the other flavors! read more

Well, he took the hint, and showed up for lunch with two boxes full of Abby Girl Cupcakes! Who doesn't like a sweet treat? I was super excited to try one of these little gems, heck maybe 4. I was super disappointed with this cupcake on many levels. First, the cake portion of this cupcake was super oily. That is not a mistake for being moist. The frosting was slightly hard and extremely surgery. I came to this shop mid evening so does that mean it was sitting out all day? Maybe the reasons why it was as explained. I would give this place a 5 star for the flavor combos and names. The perfect balance between cupcake and frosting was proportionate. The packaging was great. The box held our little gems and they were easy to get out when we arrived to our hotel. You absolutely MUST stop and try this cupcakery. We actually stumbled upon it trying to find another store and wanted to treat ourselves. I had heard of Abby Girl many times but had never been given the chance to try it. We decided to "split one cupcake between the two of us," which means we left with two for me and two for him. I opted for a New York cheesecake and a double trouble cupcake, my boyfriend got a peanut butter cup cupcake and a cookies and cream cupcake. First of all, my cheesecake was absolutely mind blowing. Seriously some of the best that I've ever had and the fact that it's able to be eaten without a fork makes it an A+ in my book. I haven't tried to double trouble yet, but it was recommended by the cashier above all of the other cupcakes so I feel positive that it's going to that I'm going to be satisfied. My boyfriend already ate both of his and liked both of them so much that he was making borderline inappropriate noises. He says that Abby Girl are the cupcakes he's ever had. And he went ahead and repeated this three or four times on the way, in case I didn't hear him the first time. As for me, I am INSANELY partial to The Bonbonerie as I want to take a dive into the opera cream ... But Abby Girl probably ties with Bonbonerie. Seriously. Go. This gal has an inner fat kid that will never say no to a cupcake! No surprise that while in Cincinnati for work my sweet tooth kicked in. Thanks to Yelp I discovered this cute little cupcakery very close to my hotel (dangerous!). After picking up dinner I made my way to this place. It is located in a shopping center with plenty of parking. There was not anyone else in the store when I went. The lady working (who I might guess was the owner) was nice but not overly friendly which was fine. I ended up getting the peanut butter cup and sugar baby. The cupcakes (yes I ate them both...do not judge me!) were pretty good and not dry at all. There was a good amount of icing but not overload. The flavor was pretty good and basic which was fine but I've had better. Overall I'd definitely go back to this cupcakery. They do close what I consider to be early (6pm) so if you get an after dinner sweet treats craving there won't be any stopping at this place. Plan ahead for that sweet tooth craving. read more

Abby Girl isn't my favorite cupcake spot in Cincinnati, but this location is very close to my office so when we need to celebrate, this is our go-to stop. They usually have 8-10 flavor options, ranging from chocolate stuff to fruit stuff. The cake is usually very soft and the icing is a good 3 inches on top. I just don't feel like the flavors are as strong as they could be, and I do like a little a cupcake to be a little more dense then soft. Just personal preference. ANd they only have cupcakes, no cakepops, cookies or any other variety. I would recommend going earlier in the day for a better selection. I have to say, I just wasn't impressed. Yes, they have cupcakes in their name, but they do not sell anything but cupcakes. Unfortunately, the afternoon I visited, they only had about six different types of cupcakes, with only one type of chocolate, which to me, just isn't a heck of a lot of variety. After seeing all the rave reviews for this cupcakery, I decided to make a special stop there on my way home from work to pick up some treats to celebrate my wedding anniversary with. I went arrived around noon. The shop is very small, but there were two or three tables in there if you wanted to sit and enjoy your sweet purchase. The decor is very cute. When I got to the counter, I found about 8-10 different kinds of cupcakes to choose from, but I felt like the majority of my options were chocolate in some way. Not a big deal, but chocolate cake isn't necessarily at the top of my list. I left with four different kinds: 1. Salted Caramel 2. Peanut butter cup 3. Cookies'n'creme 4. Double or triple chocolate something or other--it looked like those hostess cupcakes. My husband I both agree the cupcakes were good. The cake was soft and moist, which is great. But that's kinda where the greatness ended for us. My husband ate the salted caramel cupcake and he said there was no caramel flavor to be tasted. He said it was like eating a regular cupcake with a sweet and salty cream frosting. The rest of the cupcakes were inundated with absurd amounts of frosting. The frosting may have been good, but gosh, does there have to be so much? Also, price. I spent nearly $12 on four cupcakes. This may be completely reasonable for the industry, I have no idea. But if I'm going to spend $12 on frosted pastries, it's going to be on a dozen donuts at Holtmans, where every bite blows my mind and the frosting never overtakes it's doughy vessel. read more

I was going to try this cupcakery downtown and saw on their site that they have one in Blue Ash which is closer to where i live. Went there and ordered 4 kinds: Strawberry Delight, Cookies-n-Cream, Double Trouble and Classic Vanilla Bean on Vanilla. After we taste tested them, we decided that Double Trouble and Classic Vanilla were our favorites. The Double Trouble is reminiscent of a Hostess chocolate cupcake filled with white cream except this was topped with ganache which made it worlds apart; the vanilla one was excellent. The strawberry one wasn't our favorite - it's color looked a bit too pink! I'm a sucker for background stories of how places got their name and this one is named after the owner's daughter's nickname. While it is not our favorite cupcakery in the Cincinnati, it runs a close second. read more

I do recall repeated episodes at neighbor kids' birthday parties: lurching toward the sink to wash down a mass of Duncan Hines dryness, partaking precious water just prior to choking. Pretty much the same ritual over and over. So what's a smart kid to do? I gave them up for a couple decades. And then along came my wife's introduction to me and Abby Girl. Amazing attention to visual detail; very moist cupcakes; flavors like they invented the word flavor; and a visual appeal that transforms some of these babies into edible art forms. Yeah. It's not often I go out of my way to make buy sweets, so when I do, I like it to be good stuff. And, because I no longer work near The Sweeterie, it was time I found the next best thing in the area. Thankfully, Abby Girl Sweets has set up shop in Blue Ash, in addition to its Downtown location. Location: Abby Girl Sweets (Blue Ash) is located on the corner of Kenwood and Glendale-Milford (right where Glendale-Milford turns into Pfieffer), which makes its location easy to get to by highway (I-71, I-75, I-275, and Ronald Reagan) and by any major surround thoroughfare. I went around lunchtime, which meant it could potentially be very crowded. Conversely, there was sufficient parking, and only one group ahead of me. Atmosphere: The interior of the shop is very cute, but doesn't allow for a lot of space to eat in. The décor is unassuming and fresh, and from what I recall there was a table for patrons to enjoy their sweets in house. Because I was taking my cupcakes to go, sitting in was not necessary. (I have a feeling that sitting in probably doesn't happen a whole heckuvalot, as it's very convenient to grab your treat(s) and go.) Food: Being the awesome girlfriend that I am, I decided what better day to give AGS a try than to swing by and pick up a couple of treats before meeting Date at our favorite lunch spot for his birthday? The nice thing about going myself was that I got to choose the flavors. Fortunately, Date likes just about everything, so it was all but assured he would be okay with whatever cupcake(s) I decided. Naturally, I went with Triple Chocolate and Cookies-N-Cream. The former we split after his birthday lunch, while the latter we split after I took him out for birthday dinner. Both were pretty good but not too rich and, seeing as I don't particularly like icing to begin with, the fact that the icing wasn't TOO rich was a pretty big deal. I will certainly return to Abby Girl Sweets in the future, as I wouldn't mind trying more flavors (or repeating the ones I previously had), and having AGS within close proximity of my everyday life is quite a treat. Delish! Cake is moist, even after 2 days in the fridge! They didn't hold up well in the car, so if presentation is important, you might need to be extra careful. The cake and the frosting are both delicious, but a little soft- so not that sturdy. These were the best tasting cupcakes I have ever had. Here's Abby Girl's new location in Blue Ash. Which is very close to my work...and their cupcakes are the best in town...oh, geez, this could be bad. This location is slightly bigger than their downtown location, so there is a small area with three four-top bar tables. I was pleased to see they are using Square for their checkout system. Makes it easy and quick to pay with your smartphone (or cash, or plastic, too of course). From what I can tell they stock the same flavors at both locations, and they always post their current flavors on Facebook. Makes it easy to watch for your favorites and time your visits appropriately. If you aren't sure what to try, I recommend anything based on the strawberry cupcake. Absolutely delicious! They do custom orders as well, just call ahead. read more

This place is amazing! I love this location so much more than.downtown. Its much bigger. Also the fact that its close to my job is another huge Plus for me but not for my hips! My favorite is the double trouble and the strawberry. But I often try new ones everytime I stop by. Definitely check their Twitter or FB for updates on weekly specials. The best time to stop by is around 12ish (pm) during the week. If you wait until after work at 5 you will be very upset, as there won't be much to choose from. They also do call ahead orders as well!
