Just had one of the *worst* customer service experiences in a long time. I had two items to return -- totaling $48 -- with my receipt. The items were purchased from an Ace store in a different state, just 20 days ago. I was informed that this store is an "independent" store and that they would not be accepting my return because "it's their policy." Top it off the "assistant manager" (guy with a beard) had quite an attitude -- no customer service skills of any kind, rude, curt. I'll not get into it, but suffice to say this guy shouldn't be dealing with the public. He made me feel like a criminal for trying to return something bought in another store. Like I was trying to get away with something. It was surreal. This is contrary to every experience I've ever had at an Ace Hardware store. And any national chain frankly: You bought something in a different store, any store should take it back with a receipt and a smile. This incident reflects poorly on the entire Ace brand. They told me I could call the store where I bought it and mail it to them for a return. Yeah, not helpful. "Ace is the place with the unhelpful hardware man..." The irony here is I go out of my way to buy local and to support my local businesses. Ace Hardware of Veneta has just made the perfect argument NOT to. Before they arrived, our family received pillows as a Christmas gift and ended up loving those. When the Mattress Firm pillows were delivered, we never opened the box. Within a few weeks of purchase, I returned to the store to request a refund. Despite the pillows being unopened, unused, and brand new, the store refused to take them back. What made this experience significantly worse was the behavior of the store manager. She was rude, dismissive, and completely indifferent to the financial impact this had on our family. She refused to be helpful in any way, would not allow me to speak with anyone else or escalate the issue, and essentially shut the conversation down in a hostile manner. Being treated with this level of disrespect while being denied a refund for $500 of unopened merchandise is outrageous. There was no empathy, no customer service, and no professionalism shown. I strongly advise anyone considering shopping at this location to be extremely cautious and to get return policies in writing. Based on this experience, I will never shop here again.

A person with dementia or some other impairment, or even accidentally, would end up on the floor. The bed would simply dump them. What if they could not get up? This should have been pointed out to us at the point of purchase. Also, a person who needed to sleep in a heads up reclining position would be on a downward slant, which would be uncomfortable and untenable. You couldn't stay there. You would continue to slide downward. When I called the store, the salesperson said I had to pay 250.00, to return the bed. I think this is unfair. The bed is unsafe. He would not give me a supervisor's name or number and says that there is no one in a supervisory capacity he would give me a name or number to. This is wrong!

The old mower died out yesterday. I didn't want to take an 8 year old mower that was slowly fading…read moreand start throwing money at it. The blades are really worn down and the bushings on the front wheels retaining bolts are cracked broken with pieces missing. Now with it stalling after running for a few seconds, it looks like it was gearing up to be in the shop a lot. So today I had this grand plan of making stops at three different locations to compare models and pricing of mowers. As luck would have it, our first stop was our only stop. Tractor Supply in JC was it. As I was looking over the mowers and popping open the filters and lids, an employee came over on his forklift. He could see I was seriously shopping. He was real knowledgeable about the mowers and the differences between them. Turns out he is the one who puts them together when they get delivered to the store. He also told us if there were any issues, bring the mower back so the can affect any repairs and make it right. What can I say? The price was average for this type of a Zero Turn mower. It was also very sturdy with upgrades that make the work easier to get done. We've had nothing but great service from this location, so I decided not to waste the rest of the day looking and ultimately coming back here, so we bought the thing and they held it while I drove home to get the trailer. When I got back, there it was waiting and ready for me to load it up and haul it home. We really appreciate how the staff all take their work here to the next level. They all work as if the store was owned by them personally and they want to take care of their customers.
