My family just used this company this week and I can't recommend strongly enough that you stay away from them, either as a seller or buyer. They were referred to my family after the passing of a family member as we needed to prepare the house for sale. Not only do they HIGHLY undervalue items but they also destroyed property moving furniture out. A 7 foot long scratch was left on a wood floor, with a witness there to see it occur. Their reaction when they were called about it was that we are paying the witness to lie. What business owner reacts this way? So when you go in there and see all the items, remember.....they take advantage of people in their grief, and are extremely unprofessional in all capacities. I would rather donate my things next time to someone grateful for it, rather than someone trying to take advantage and ruin my property without so much as an apology. Are you tired of spending hundreds or thousands of dollars buying disposable particle board furniture from online retailers? Hahahahaha ya.... Well, if you are, you should shop here! They have really good condition, high quality, solid wood, vintage furniture for shockingly low prices. I seriously bought a dresser, a coffee table, two end tables and a desk AND had them delivered for under $700. I shopped around too. I am aware of the prices, quality and selection at other used and new furniture stores in Eugene. This store is a freaking gem. A few good buys. Not something to write home about or put on a pickers honey hole list. The prices were higher then normal and less inventory then a goodwill store. I would more then likely skip it. Yet you never know. The staff was busier cleaning dirty tables they were getting ready to put up for sale then answering questions. The quality of their furniture is notably higher than big-name secondhand stores, but the prices are quite high as well; I don't understand what the hype is about. These days it's easy enough to find nice used furniture at great prices on community marketplace websites. You'd be lucky to find a piece here that's the style and price you're looking for. Total rip-off if you're trying to sell anything. They came in to look at our furniture, and gave us ridiculously low quotes. Might as well have put the furniture on the street for that. Just out of curiosity, I asked them what they would offer for our 3 year old, perfect condition, solid mahogany (and I mean SOLID, even the drawer walls are nearly an inch thick, requires four strong men to move, let alone lift), handmade bar that cost well over $3000 new. Lots of quality stuff - not a lot of antiques - I think their prices are about 1/3 to 1/2 the price of new. Everything is top quality - no junk. Lots of tools, furniture, knick knack stuff, pictures, mattresses.... Almost new or gently used. read more

River Road 2nd Hand is NEW to me! 1) The place is family owned and operated by people who genuinely like to make a living providing a service. 2) The furniture is in great shape! 3) The quality is amazing. Dave and Nancy tend to buy items from wealthy households with families who are just ready for a change. That's a win-win for everyone! I have filled one condo and three apartments with their merchandise over the past 10 years and I have been very pleased. Lastly, their prices are pretty darn firm. While this will upset some who like to think their bargain basement shoppers, I appreciate that they know what they have to make on each item in order to keep their doors open and they don't sell it for a penny more. They say , just send us a picture of what you want to sell. Well i did that and no response. After a week or so i get a response out of the blue. They said they would buy the item. I said ok when will you come pick it up. No response! What are they doing over there, painting the office and sniffing the fumes? Definitely a Eugene institution. GO HERE FIRST, before the others! I have purchased many items from Dave and Nancy (owners) for 10 years. This is the highest quality second-hand store in the area with the fairest prices. They have an exceptional eye for quality and style. Furniture, tools, electronics, outdoor items, asundry items (no clothing) - you name it. I've always left with more than I was looking for because prices and quality were so good. They are not into dickering prices, and that is okay because of the fairness of prices. I have well-furnished my house, and outfitted by shop with their high quality items. Looker Beware! They have a significant turnover of items, so make a decision to buy sooner than later! On the other hand, it is exciting to stop by every couple of weeks to see the many new items. All electronics, power equipment, appliances are thoroughly inspected. The furniture is cleaned and polished. The service is hassle-free, so you can take your time looking; they will also give you very personable attention, like family. read more

If you are buying, their stuff it is ok for relatively fair pricing. I would go here first before the donation places (St. Vincent, Goodwill, etc.) since they charge too much for their furniture (vs. quality). If you are selling, you are better off donating your items for the tax write-off. Sometimes you can get one of the employees that will pay "fair" pricing (taking into account they need to have room for a mark-up), but most of the time, they don't even pay pennies on the dollar even for quality, in good-shape antiques. For the reviewer trying to sell his records, you should try CD World on West 11th next to Fred Meyer. I don't know what they are paying but at least they will recognize what you have. I went there recently and they have a large selection of "pre-loved vinyl" (their words, not mine). read more

I would never go to this store again. They advertise on Craig's list that they buy vinyl records. I brought in my collection of Judas Priest, Black Sabbath(Heaven and He'll), Krokus, Accept, etc. I was told, by the (kid) working there that my albums were worth .50 each...The kid never opened, or looked at the condition of my records..He Said that since he never heard of Krokus, Judas Priest, Ozzy, Black Sabbath, Lou Reed, Billy Idol, Thin Lizzy, that he would only pay out .50 cents a record..$10 bucks for 20 rock albums that he has never heard of before. I grabbed my collection and stormed out of there, Feeling Insulted..Don't take any of your records there to sell, UNLESS its a mint condition Led Zepplin album, then you can get a WHOLE dollar for it !! Good, clean, quality furniture and other items at reasonable prices. True enough, they don't pay big for what you have for sale and that's why they can offer folks like a me a good deal. I told one sales lady (who kept leaving me, the customer, to go heat up soup for the other employees) that I was going to call a friend to see if I could borrow her car to come pick up the piece of furniture. When I then went up to the gentleman there, since the lady was no where to be found, that I wanted to buy the piece of furniture, he said that this other gentleman told him he wanted to buy it minutes before. Apparently even though I told the lady I was arranging to have it picked up, that wasn't enough. The guy told me that this happens several times a week and that if you are even thinking about buying something, take the tag off and give it to them and tell them you might buy it. I think they need to work on their customer service and if this is the way they play the game, then the lady needed to tell me this piece of information when I was talking to her. Also, they should maybe communicate with each other. I am sure they don't care since they are selling the piece either way, but there won't be a next time for me with this kind of customer service. read more
