Decided to pull up and do a review on 900 Grayson's highly recommend dish The Demon Lover. I have to say food met all my expectations. 5 out of 5 on my ratings scale. Service was excellent and quick, food was on point and very tasty. The chicken was tender and fried to perfection, seasoned very well. Their waffle wasn't hard it was very tender and the gravy & syrup combinations was perfect. Outside seating due to Covid-19 which is good still small restaurant with dope service. Amazing place to have some breakfast! Saw a few friends visit this place and had an urge to give this place a try. I've never tried chicken and waffles but their Demon Lover was amazing. I was trying to find a brunch place nearby to get togo and I found this place on yelp! I thought I was in the wrong place when I got here since blends in with the residential houses next to it. They have patio seating in the back and the decor inside makes it feel homey and traditional. There were a lot of people on a Saturday so I recommend calling in beforehand if you're getting togo. My friend ordered the 7th & Grayson which is the spicy Moroccan tofu scramble. It comes with a huge side of hash brown. My friend ordered the Demon Lover (chicken and waffles) with both gravy AND maple syrup. I heard it tastes a lot better combined! They're known for their Demon Lover so I highly recommend trying that first if it's your first time but both dishes were amazing! I would love to try more of their other dishes next time too! He would greet and write down names of new comers, run to the back to help prepare food, clear tables, and answer the phone! I ordered the Demon Lover with gravy, essentially chicken and waffles with gravy. As soon as I got my order I opened the box for my commute home so the waffles wouldn't get soggy from the warm chicken. The waffles survived the trip home but I should have moved the chicken because where it sat it got soft. Nothing a quick trip to the air fryer can't fix! The waffles were seasoned and I declined their hot sauce as we had hot sauce and syrup at home. Chicken was good and benefited from add hot sauce. The gravy was amazing! I was craving gravy and it hit the spot. Would definitely order the dish again. The ambience inside was bustling and average to loud. (The weather this particular morning was not great, so that might have made the wait easier.) Our waitress wasn't pushy despite the never-ending crowds, but I didn't find her particularly warm, either. That's a-ok. The Time-Life Cook was satisfying. I appreciate that the gouda omelet wasn't too greasy, though could have been a little more interesting with one more ingredient or texture. Their waffles are sweet with a hint of cinamon. The gravy that we poured over the chicken was so savory and gave it that extra kick of goodness that you didnt know you needed it until you tried it. Excellent food and service. I've eaten here a few times and service and food are always excellent. It's not fancy- I'm referring to servers who are paying attention, not to whether they have white tablecloths and fancy glassware. Today I had the Demon Lover - basically fried chicken and waffles. Couldn't have been better. Chicken was moist but not soggy, nicely seasoned, coating was crisp, etc. also had some clam chowder-a special of the day. Really good. Plenty of clams, and the broth was not the gloppy starchy sludge served some places. My partner was equally satisfied with her fried chicken sandwich and with the service. The place is also attractive, with windows letting in light. Walking inside, I looked at the familiar scene of small tables a bit closer together than comfort would dictate. Nonetheless, I received my seating. I ordered the sandwich of the day, a roast beef sandwich with beer cheese on toasted ciabatta with a side of fries ($12.50 pre-tax). The fries arrived liberally seasoned with salt and some other spice (cumin? but maybe I say that because I tasted cumin on my friend's burger's BBQ sauce). and seemed fried to that perfect medium of some firm but not crunchy and some soft but not soggy. The sandwich itself represented a study in savoriness. The roast beef (dry, no au jus here) complimented the sweeter savoriness of the cheese. For $12.50, today's lunch seemed quite satisfactory. I came last weekend and they were so busy that it unfortunately impacted the speed of service and the food. Our server was great and we could tell that she was really doing her best given the circumstances. I saw potential and decided to give them another shot this weekend and they really knocked it out of the park. I decided to take two of my friends for their first time to 900 Grayson since the pandemic started and while the Demon Lover was still as delicious and definitely a 5/5, the service was not welcoming. Maybe they were just having a bad day, but when my friends and I were seated, our server did not seem happy to serve us. One of my friends asked for straws for our drinks and the server looked at us weirdly and slowly threw the straws onto our table one by one, looking at my friend with a lot of judgement. Besides that weird interaction, our whole table just felt like we were not supposed to be there so we ate our food quickly and left. We we got there we didn't have to wait at all. We were immediately sat at a table. Didn't take me long to figure out what I wanted. Yea. You guessed it. Chicken and Waffles son. They were pretty good. I enjoyed the seasoning the chicken the most I feel. The gravy was solid; as was the waffle. If I lived by, I probably would go here and get this often. However I can get the same quality of food closer to home so that's the only reason why I probably won't come to often. It's always really home-y and relaxed, and they have a beautiful outdoor patio. This is not a place to go if you're in a hurry, but is great for a lazy late breakfast or brunch. This place is like a nicer diner, that has been Berkeley-fied (and I'm here for it) I know the Demon Love Fried Chicken & Waffles are the star here, but I don't eat chicken so my go-to here is usually the 7th and Grayson tofu scramble (which is vegan? Except for the buttered toast it comes with!), that is always perfectly done with the slightest kick of spice in their delicious harissa, and garnished with some dainty shredded mint. I wanted to bring my family to 900 Grayson for brunch as it is walking distance from my home. My daughter uses a wheelchair. I have pass by every single day coming home from work and do not see a wheelchair accessible entrance, there is a large clumsy step in front entrance. I called to see if the restaurant was wheelchair accessible. The man who answered the phone was so incredibly rude. Rude. Just rude. He said sounded incredulous that i would dare to ask and said, "the wheelchair entrance was around the back" and hung up. He sounded so annoyed. In the back where? Do we have to weave through the diners to find a table? We want to eat like everybody else without disrupting the other diners. Needless to say, not only will i not visit 900 Grayson but whenever i get a chance, i tell the story of the rude man and the inaccessible entrance to all who suggest, "hey, should we have brunch?"
