We ordered take out from this spot while away for the weekend. Delicious rice and beans, empanadas, and great fresh guacamole. We were craving fish tacos and these were the biggest disappointment--the fish smelled and tasted like it had gone bad, and so unfortunately we tossed both orders of tacos. They weren't cheap and it was a sad outcome. Maybe next time we will avoid the surf, and stick to the turf. read more

Food is absolutely phenomenal! The service is the the worst we have ever had. We are locals and live on the island. Went one time and had the worst service but decided to go back again tonight and give them another chance. It was even worst then the first time. We will never go back. Absolutely awesome food and drinks here! We had a party of 13 and we were seated and served quickly. They brought all the kids food out first which was perfect. We really enjoyed our meals and our margaritas. We would definitely recommend it here. The prices are very reasonable and they have large portion sizes. Very fresh chips and salsa. It's terrific to see a locally owned restaurant open up here - enough chains already. It's even better when said restaurant serves ~delicious~ food and provides friendly & efficient service. They have a full bar and lots of room to spare. I've tried several of their menu items and each one was full of flavor and portioned just right. These folks get it. You should too. Everything was superb! The margaritas were excellent as was the food and the friendly service. We had the table-side guacamole - OMG, it was perfection. The blending of several wonderful flavors and the freshness of the ingredients was amazing. The shrimp fajitas were to die for. The shrimp was absolutely perfectly cooked as were the veggies. Had a terrible experience, went here with my family, we all ordered alcohol beverages. While it took at least 20 minutes to get our drinks. When we finally get them we're drinking the drinks when we notice that there is black bits in some of the drinks figuring it out to be mold from the ice machine. DISGUSTING!!! We then noticed it in our water, complained to the waiter about our concern and completely disregard it and said we still had to pay for it. After sitting in just disgust and disregarded we decided to leave and not eat there anymore, then giving us the checks with all of the drinks still on each check. We ordered queso dip, lunch fajitas and the sopapillos for dessert. The wueso was divine but my fajitas which were a mix of steak and chicken left something to be desired. The tortillas were chewy, the steak grisly and the chicken was tough. I couldn't finish mine but I did like the rice and refried beans. I ordered the sopapillas without ice cream and they came covered in sprinkles, which I don't like but I ate one anyway. They were just okay. The best part was our server Fernando. We were seated right below a speaker and it was very loud. When I asked if he could turn down the volume because I was hearing impaired and afraid I wouldn't be able to hear my girlfriend when she spoke he had them turn the music off during our meal. There may be dishes that are good here but they put AMERICAN CHEESE in their enchiladas.... For me that is a cardinal sin. They are seriously charging $15 for corn tortillas with a slice of American cheese. Wow we are stupid Americans but come on man Kraft singles!? It's really not a heavy lift to add real cheese. Just had 3 tacos there, bland beef no seasoning, soggy lettuce, cheap cheese, no sour cream or any offer of any sides. Salsa had no flavor and bartender noticeably had no interest in being there. I only gave it 2 stars because the ambiance was inviting. As far as genuine Mexican food, I would bet my life the Mexican employees that worked there doesn't eat the food that is served there. We just stopped in for a frozen margaritas and chips, but stayed for dinner. Here's what you need to know: 1. Cleanliness rating is very high. 2. Margaritas are twice as big and twice as strong/tasty as anyone else's. 3. Every plate that left the kitchen looked beautiful! We sat in front of the kitchen for 90 minutes. 4. A surprise gem! We ended up here because they had no wait and we were starving. The food was fabulous! They have an extensive menu, large drinks, very fair prices, and lots of seating. We hd a large group and everyone enjoyed their food. Some favorites were the queso appetizer and the various enchilada entrees. You should also order the guacamole appetizer because they come and custom make it on a cart right at your table! It was delicious. The Mexican food here is excellent with great seasoning, quality, and quantity at an affordable price. We discovered this restaurant our second day in the OBX and had to return one last time before we left. Keila was our server both times. She was so friendly and gave great service. Everything was fine but honestly I found it to be no better or worse than any of the other Mexican restaurants in the Outer Banks. The servings were generous. We have been here a three times in the last 3 weeks. The food is some of the best Mexican Food we have had. Unfortunately, the service from the greeting to getting your check is terrible. There isn't a system for seating guests...if they want you to move from the front door they will likely forget you because you are not in their face. They have you put your name on a waitlist that gets trashed or lost within minutes. Once seated we had to ask for our waiter after watching others get their drinks and meals. I usually am not one to do this, but I have given this place 3 chances and that's fair. All 3 times we have been there our service was awful, 3 different servers, 3 different trips, cmon now. Last night was the final straw, there were 9 of us so I get how that can be a little overwhelming but when someone at our table doesn't even get their food and they tell him oh well the kitchen is closed?! When he ordered WAY before the kitchen closed and when everyone else at the table ordered their food. Also the waitress didn't even address it, she ignored it like it never happened. We had the carnitas, the enchiladas chipotle, the steak and fries, and the kids quesadilla, all of which were hits, as was the lava cake for dessert. Very poor customer service. Ordered food over the phone to-go. 4 items, she said I'd be ready in 10-15min. As we were leaving, noticed there was a steak bowl missing. I called in to let them know we were missing the bowl and the ladie said to a co worker " you forget the bowl?" Then responds to me an says come in we will fix it. I live in Colington. My mom was out so I had her go pick up the missing item. She arrived home with 4 tacos. I noticed it wasn't a bowl obviously and called again. They ladie did not apologize or say anything. Now I'm back again for the 3rd time to receive the bowl and I've been sitting here almost 30 minutes and counting.... anyways I'm local and will not suggest this place to anyone and will not be returning. Just go to plaza if you want the same style and identical menu. Update we received a chicken bowl instead of the steak bowl. After 3x they couldn't get it right.
