I'm a fan of 24 Diner & this particular location at the Austin-Bergstrom airport. The feel is like 1950s retro diner with a modern twist. I'm a sucker for anything Mid-Century. The decor and food menu definitely give off that vibe as a slightly more elevated experience. The service is good and pretty fast. Food comes out fresh and hot. I really like the chicken and waffles. The waffles are light and fluffy without being heavy and dense. Chicken is juicy and seasoned wonderfully. My boyfriend loves the Wagyu burgers...I've had a couple of bites and can see why. So picture it, I've just been told I've been put on standby for my trip across the pond and come back in 45 minutes to check the status. The restaurant is busy but we are seated immediately in a comfy booth in the back. I order the breakfast burger and my travel companion orders the breakfast sandwich off the QR code menu. Which is actually very convenient since we are in a bit of a hurry. A server drops off waters and checks in to see if we need any condiments. Friendly and welcoming vibes. Our food is made to order but the menu is small so it comes up quick. My breakfast burger looks good and tastes even better. Nicely grilled buttered brioche bun, perfectly cooked egg, medium burger that's all juicy and bacon flavor from I think a jam is really nice as well. And the side of breakfast potatoes is perfect. Fried crispy but not greasy and a very generous portion. For the price in an airport, I couldn't have asked for a better comfort meal. My friend really enjoyed her breakfast sandwich but low key regretted not ordering my breakfast burger. That's okay she finished mine because I ran off to check my flight status, haha. When I went to order the sausage patty with my eggs, the waiter warned me that the sausage was not that good, so I went with the bacon. Coffee was ok. The eggs (over easy) were good. I think we walked a half mile to go to 24. It was worth it. I got the veggie frittata that was packed with veggies and big enough for 2-3 people. A side of bacon that was crispy without being burnt. I understand that we are conditioned to accept over priced airport food that is usually not as palatable as restaurants outside of the airport however this was some of the worst, overpriced food I've sampled in a long time. We sat down for breakfast at AUS Airport on a Tuesday morning. The restaurant wasn't packed but they seemed understaffed. We had to wait 10 minutes for someone to greet us and find us a table for our group. Our waitress was great, she was attentive and was trying to get food out quickly. There was a delay in cooking the food, but our waitress mentioned there was a 30 minute wait to get food out and made sure that wasn't a problem before she put our order in. The food was actually pretty good, doesn't look great, but tasted better than you'd think by appearance! All in all the experience was good, we weren't in a rush so the delay wasn't a huge issue, it really helped that our waitress communicated the delay in food orders getting out, so we could decide prior to placing our order. Yoooo, 24 Diner once again has a 24-hour schedule Wednesday-Saturdays for the first time since before the pandemic. For a night-owl like me, that's huge! But it's so much more than that. The service we experienced was next level awesome, from our friendly, helpful server (he even personally made a milkshake that they don't have on the night menu because he knew the ingredients), to the owner stopping at our table to make sure everything was good, to our server asking us before we left if we would like "to-go waters" (mind blown... but this is truly so smart, since lots of the late-late crowd is probably stopping in after a night of drinking!). If I could give this a zero star I would. Worst airport food experience. QR code didn't work so had to wait for someone to take our order. We placed our order with the waitress. But after 30 minutes of waiting for our food we noticed that the people that came after us were getting their food first. Stopped for brunch while bicycling around Austin. First positive, they had a convenient and secure bike rack - but I suppose everyplace in Austin has at least one spot for bikes. We were 2 hours early for our flight and my teenager chose this place because he saw chicken and waffles on the menu. The only chicken you can get is a breast, he usually gets a wing or a leg but he ordered it anyways and thought the chicken breast was really good, and seasoned. The waffle on the other hand came out a little burnt on the edges but they so kindly replaced it and it was good. I ordered the 24 hash with no meat and scrambled eggs. Better than I expected With time to kill before our connecting flight we looked for a sit-down restaurant and found the 24 Diner. Not a fancy place but they have table service. Ordering and paying can be done online using a QR code at the table, or in our case, a server came over and took our order. I suppose tips are better with a more personal touch, the QR code good for speed and less interaction because of Covid. I ordered their Cheeseburger, which came with fries. The food was surprisingly very good, the burger thick and not dry, the fries seasoned. We received excellent service with multiple drink refills. When our server circled back as we were finishing, I told him the food was better than I expected. His insightful reply was when people see the high price, they say the food better be good, and when they eat it, they say yeah, it was. We paid using the QR code and that was easy. Nice atmosphere. Clean and bright. The menu was surprisingly brief and for having so few items I expected them to be a little better. The hashbrowns were cool and not crispy. As I have said in previous posts.. when you are at an airport you need to adjust your expectations. Went here for a quick breakfast before a flight...service was good and deserves more stars than the food... the breakfast plate which is eggs, bacon, toast, home fries is pretty pricey for what you get.. the toast is one piece of bread cut in half so they count it as 2 pieces of toast (it's not) the scrambled eggs will be about 1.5 eggs worth not 2 or 3 like you might be expecting. FOOD: Didn't get to try the food as the waiter never came to help me even though I was sitting there for over 15 minutes. SERVICE: Sign by the front says to sit down and that a waiter will be there shortly. The table has a QR code to order online but when I was ready to checkout it gave me an error saying to ask for the server. 15 minutes after I sat down and was repeatedly ignored by the server I was finally able to flag him down. I asked if I could order, to which he answered, "this table is still dirty and it is not ready. Find a table that's ready." I remained at the table assuming he would come back to take away this ONE plate so that I could order, but he never did. I waited another 10 min and then decided to leave. 24 Diner is a fairly new addition to Austin-Bergstrom International Airport. It's located post security, down near Gate 11. I sauntered in one morning - a few hours before my flight - for breakfast. Ended up ordering the Sweet Potato Hash: roasted sweet potatoes, sausage, and Monterey Jack cheese - topped with two eggs over easy. Plus a cup of coffee. The hash was very good - but the portion was to large for me to finish. Coffee was pretty decent for Airport diner grade coffee. Service was also good - the only thing I will ding them on - $24 for breakfast - is a bit on the steep side. #24Diner read more
