OK, we'll start with the obvious - it's a hotel bar/restaurant. That tends to lower the bar a bit on standards, often, but it still keeps this at a 3 star review, no more. The bar is appointed well enough, and while the bartenders are a bit sloppy in their mixology and prep (rim salter filled while still wet = clumpy salt; juices everywhere), they were friendly enough and got the orders right. The food was promptly served. I ordered chips and salsa as an appetizer (the only thing I thought would be a small enough quantity and cheap at $5). I also ordered the chimichurri steak tacos. You get three of those in the typical three slot holder, decent portions. The chips were good. The salsa looks like it was heavy on tomatillos instead of tomatoes, but had good flavor and acceptable spice. The tacos. They were flavorful. But the flavors were overpowered by the quantity of SALT. I could hear Gordon Ramsay in my head shouting "This is so salty it would kill a horse!". I LOVE salty savory things, but it pushed my limits - yes I ate them anyway, in part because I was hungry and tired. I think part of the problem was they used a dusting of parmesan to add a touch to the presentation, and it did elevate the tacos, but when you prep a dish like this you have to remember that salt is additive. The steak strips are salted. The chimichurri has salt. Parmesan is one of the saltier cheeses. Accidentally over-salt the steaks and you're quickly in trouble. Oh, the atmosphere? An industrial hipster bar wanna-be in a hotel lobby. OK as far as hotel bars, but not one I'd go out of my way to visit. read more

Hotel restaurant with adequate seating at the bar and many different seating options in the vicinity. If you don't want to sit at the bar, you can order at the counter, and they'll bring your food to wherever you're seated. I ordered the texture burger with fries and a cocktail off the menu. Ordering was easy, and my food came out at a decent time. It was a standard bar burger, enough to fill a belly and soak up the liquor. The service could have been better...the bartender spent most of his time sitting on a chair using his phone instead of making sure patrons didn't need anything. I had to try to catch his attention whenever he got up from his chair. Another guest who ordered online stood at the counter waiting for about five minutes when her food was already bagged and at the register because he was sitting on his phone in the corner and didn't notice her until he got up to throw his snack trash away. I've never seen a bartender sit before, and I was a bartender for several years. I paid about $40 for a burger and cocktail. Overall, if you're staying here...I'd give the food a try. read more

Ok, I know what you are thinking, a hotel restaurant? But yes. We stayed at the Doubletree for a family event in the area. Best thing here is the restaurant/bar. At check in, we got a single complimentary drink at the bar so that's where we went for dinner. Some good 'ol bar food. So we thought. Much to our surprise, it was anything but bar food. They had a menus that has a lot of healthy to not so healthy options. And the portions were huge. We had the wings, chicken tortilla soup and power bowl. Everything was excellent and we had plenty left overs for another meal. So the next morning we went back for breakfast as we each had a $20 breakfast voucher. We didn't learn from the night before and had another huge box of to-go food. Hint: consider splitting plates. You can always order more. Chef Dan has done some amazing things with the menu. I normally don't eat at restaurants in hotels, but for whatever reason I decided I wanted to check this one out during a stay at the Doubletree in North Austin, which turned out to be a good experience. My order was - House smoked chicken wings - Really delicious. Moist and perfectly smoky in flavor, great sauce. They also give you a really generous portion, and can easily feed 3 people for an appetizer portion. Comes with a choice of bleu cheese or ranch (went with the former, and it was great because it wasn't just a watery version of a dipping sauce but had generous amounts of bleu cheese chunks which I love). The Works burger - Oh my gosh. A behemoth of a burger. Think beef patty (the menu listing says it's a combination of ground brisket and short rib, but I really couldn't tell the difference compared to a standard 80/20 chuck) that comes with bacon, bleu cheese (I can't get enough of this stuff), a fried egg and avocado slices. Yep, they throw the kitchen sink at this one. If that ain't enough, it comes with a side and a pickle spear. Hoo boy. The meat was well cooked but I thought the seasoning could have been more on point. The addition of the avocado I thought was a bit strange. I'm not opposed to it, but it tends to make the bun moist, especially if the juices from the rest of the burger add to it. To end the meal, I went with the bread pudding and it was absolutely delicious, especially the sauce. Totally recommend this if you want to finish with a sweet treat. read more

I was recently in Austin for business. I stayed at the Doubletree Hilton which is where this restaurant is located. The breakfast was good (better than most hotels). However, there were a couple of days that they did a breakfast buffet instead of ordering from a menu. I didn't like the buffet. It felt lazy to me. Also, one night I ordered 3 beers from the bar (Dos XX) and they were in bottles. I'm pretty sure all three of the beers were expired. The wheat tasted like it had gone bad. They definitely need to check their inventory to prevent this from happening. read more

I was staying at the Doubletree in Austin that houses Texture, and I was lucky enough to have breakfast included with my room so taking advantage of this was a no brainer. Texture offers a breakfast buffet with minimal options, plus made to order eggs provided by the serving staff. The coffee tasted great which was a nice surprise since often at hotel restaurants the coffee is just a step or 2 above browned water. It was nice to have a cup which was noticeably bold to help kickstart my day. The buffet itself wasn't so great...everything was served in trays heated buffet trays which had kind of a steamed effect on the food that worked for some things, but wasn't really what you wanted for biscuits and potatoes. (All potential crispiness gone for these two items.) The fruit (mostly melon) also didn't look very good. Luckily a fresh green apple was available. I ordered an omelet made with egg whites, spinach, onions and swiss cheese. They forgot the cheese and it was fairly sad looking omelet. (Cooking egg whites is tricky and a lot of cooks don't quite have it down) but it tasted fine. They brought a to-go cup in case I wanted to take coffee with me which was thoughtful and nice. (Although I didn't love the food, the staff on hand were VERY nice.) I also checked out Texture for a potential late night snack...there was an item on the printed menu in the rooms which they no longer carried...the staff told me they had updated their menu in the restaurant...There were limited vegetarian options and it would have been nice if the menus in the rooms were not out of date. In general, Texture served the need of providing food so i could eat in the morning...though if I had the time I would definitely check out any other local breakfast option for a better taste of Austin. I ate here twice during my stay for convenience. Both meals were mediocre. The mahi fish tacos are small and take 3 bites each to eat. The fish either isn't seasoned or if it is, just lacks any flavor. The aioli is too runny and again isn't very flavorful. The sides of rice and beans (to go order) were served in slightly larger condiment cups, perhaps 3 ounces each. The beans weren't seasoned either and required a packet of salt to taste ok. This meal will leave you hungry and disappointed. The young ladies working at the restaurant were very pleasant and provided quick and attentive service. This restaurant is located inside the Double Tree Hilton. The scenery is amazing! I love the atmosphere, it gives off good vibes and fun times!They have a cute bar set up and surrounding tables. There is beautiful art all over the walls. Breakfast: 40% discount M-F: 6a-11a. Sat/Sun: 6:30a- Noon. Starbucks bar in lobby(CREW MEMBERS ONLY) The menu was a little bit small to select from and pricey but the food was delicious. My service was nice, our server was a little quiet but she was very attentive with our table. Would recommend anyone staying in the hotel. read more

Hotel restaurant/bar in the Doubletree Hotel. I stayed here for a work trip. My coworkers were delighted the restaurant stayed open until 1:45am serving a late night menu and drinks. Food in general is served from 11:00am to 1:45am. I had the bun-less burger which came with tortilla soup. The burger was absolutely delicious. The tortilla soup was ok but a little spicy for me. I had the burger again the next day but with fries. Great service and a generous discount for our company employees. read more

One of the best breakfast buffets EVER! The meals are excellent, cooked to preference, and are huge in serving size. There are 2 drawbacks: the meals do not save well for reheating, or eating later, which I found odd considering how great the food tasted while it was freash; and its pricey, which I expected, but expectation doesnt help me like it anymore than I already dont. The price is easily forgivable, IF the food saved well for eating later. Something to strive for. Should the food become more reheat/re-eat consistent with the original fresh taste, I would totally update my review to 5 stars. read more

I ordered the brisket sandwich and the meat was over half fatty. I had to take the meat off the sandwich and cut out the little bits that we actually edible, otherwise it wasn't possible to eat it. I was at the Doubletree for a conference. Had the green chile beef tacos the first night and actually went back twice for the same thing! Chicken tacos were bland and my to-go bag didn't come with any salsa, pico, etc. The meal comes with about two tablespoons of very dry, tasteless black beans with a few slivers of jalapeño mixed in, and about three tablespoons of over cooked, tasteless Spanish rice.
