Normally, the service is fast and easy. I like the email notification when your items are ready. Lately, they ruined one of my favorite shirts. They tried to clean it and promised the chemicals were not harsh enough to ruin my shirt. It was absolutely GUARANTEED. Wrong. Super disappointed with damage that they claimed zero responsibility for. I bought a brand new custom-made suit for my 20yo son 6 months ago for an event. He wore it for the event and we brought it to Zips for dry cleaning. I dropped it off along with 10 other items on Aug 30th, and I came to pick it up tonight on 9/12 (not often out this way). The dude grabbed most of our items off the conveyor, then disappeared to the back. He came back with my son's suit jacket, not cleaned, with every one of his front buttons missing or destroyed/broken in half. They said when it was received, it was inspected before cleaning and the buttons were discovered as broken/missing. We know my son didn't break the buttons on his brand new suit, and we dropped it off with buttons intact. They claim that's how it was received. One button falling off, that I could find explainable. But a button literally cracked in half and the other not just missing but the threads looking like they were stretched to the max before the button tore free...that looks like obvious damage to me. They credited me the cost of the cleaning ($3.50), but they claimed zero responsibility for the damage. read more

Long time customer here. Worked at this location when it first opened up about 14 years ago. Been bringing my families clothes here for over a decade as well. Very disappointed to have lost a $75 shirt that my girlfriend purchased for our anniversary at this location. Worst part is this shirt was a limited drop and I can't find it anywhere to buy it again. I am writing this review after multiple visits and assurances that the manager would call me once she speaks to the owners and I have not heard back. No credit or reimbursement has been offered whatsoever. Please do not bring your nice clothes here. If you care about a garment and it's special to you in any way DO NOT bring it to Zips dry cleaners in Chantilly. I assure you they cannot be trusted to take proper care with your clothes and ensure it is returned to you. Having worked there I am certain that my garnment was miscounted and the Manager Angie did acknowledge this possibility but said it was unlikely and kept emphasizing that I might be making a mistake. Let me be honest here - this does not happen all the time. However, in the rare instance an article of clothing is lost....theres nothing they will do to make it right so please take caution bringing your clothes here. If your shirt is lost you'll have to live with that and accept it. Nothing can be done about it and you will certainly not get a refund or any sort of reimbursement whatsoever even after repeated visits and 10+ years of customer loyalty Save yourself the headaches and go somewhere else where your business is appreciated. Again, if you expensive clothes or rare garments DO NOT BRING THEM HERE. Better off brining cheap clothes you can afford to lose because this is a discount dry cleaners and not the most trustworthy place to bring clothes you care about. I am disappointed to leave this negative review, though I feel it is my duty to help the next person. It is also cathartic to share this. I have been going to Zips in Chantilly for ~2 yrs and up until last month have had a good to fair experience. I continued to go because of the great value. Last month, I dropped off a Frette duvet to be cleaned. Usually, I remove the filling (because it costs less to clean) but I left it in this time and paid more for convenience. Fast forward a few weeks later, I went to pick up my duvet only to find that it had been separated out into duvet filling and duvet cover. Even more disappointing was that the duvet cover was stained and had a lot of dust/grime. The staff could not find the filling and advised me to return in 2 weeks (when the manager had returned from vacation). I returned 2 weeks later only to be told that the manager was not available. I subsequently returned last week and (un)fortunately met the manager. She could not find the duvet filling and spent ~20 minutes looking through their inventory. Finally, with my help, we located the filling which was unmarked and completely separate. It is remarkable that I could even identify it! As I turned to leave, the manager asked me to pay for the duvet cover, stating I only paid for the duvet filling and I owed them money. I thought this was bizarre for the following reasons: 1) No one told me that they would take apart my duvet and charge me separately. If they did, I would have taken out the filling myself and run it through the washer at home (not pay $24 for dry cleaning a duvet filling). The manager's position was to blame me for this error when the staff should have advised me on this upon check in. 2) It seemed absurd to charge me for an item that was stained and dirty. When I asked to get it cleaned, she stated that it was already cleaned despite the very obvious stains (most of which were not there when I dropped it off). 3) There was no acknowledgement of the inconvenience this issue caused - burning gas and driving back and forth 3 times, taking time off work to sort this out, the fact that my expectation was not met and I actually had to pay almost $50 to repair the damage that was done. In summary, this business model on its nose is a good one. It works most of the time, though when it doesn't, it is colossally wrong. The manager requires thorough education on customer service. I have no idea how anyone would think blaming a customer for losing their item and then charging them for mediocre work/shoddy service is ever appropriate. Reposting this since "Kathleen R" responded to my first review saying to let them know, which I've done twice with no response. Zips Chantilly was my dry cleaner for about 10 years. Received a group of laundered shirts from store and eventually noticed they smelled of strong mildew type odor. This was after wearing 2 of the shirts. When I told them of the issue they were unapologetic and rude. Including the manager. They refused any refund and would only redo shorts that weren't yet worn. Treated me like I was at fault. Clearly years of loyalty and many dollars spent don't matter to Zips. read more

I know that during these COVID-19 times one has to expect limited services, but at least they should be fully notified of the limitations. Looking at the Chantilly ZIPS website and Facebook page it listed limited hours (but still indicated same day service was available) so I showed up at 8am just as they opened, gave the attendant all my garments, paid and then as he returned my receipt I was told they garments would be ready in 3 days. I then pointed to the giant sign in the front window that still said in by 9 out by 5 and was told we are not doing that now. He then pointed me to an 8x11 sign by the door that was mostly talking about limited hours with a small fine print at the bottom that says same day service is currently not available. So I asked for my money back since I needed at least a few of the shirts today and was told he could not do that. So now I am stuck paying for shirts that I need today so took back with me (I did leave a few other items until the 3 day pickup time). read more

I am rating this business one star because they do not honor their own coupons! It was my first time to come to a Zips store on 11/2/15. The reason I went is I received a mailer coupon that reads: "$1.99 per garment dry cleaned* *Limit up to 5 garments. Excludes leather. Limit one per household with coupon at participating ZIPS. Cannot be combined with any other offer. Services pre-paid at time of drop off. Expires 11-23-15." And so I got there, I had 2 pieces of clothing that I wanted to be dry cleaned. I was fully expecting that the price would be $1.99 per garment. But then I got there, and the lady said that I cannot use my coupon. She said I need to have a minimum of 5 garments to get the $1.99 unit price. I explained to her that that is not what the coupon means. The coupon says "Limit up to 5 garments" and what that means is I can use 5 garments for that price. She disagreed and wouldn't give me the price. I told her that it's false advertising and still she wouldn't give me the correct unit price. Since I've only been defrauded 40cents (the regular unit price if $2.29), I just agreed to pay. But I will never go back to this place again because 1) they do not honor their own coupons and 2) they are very disrespectful. You'd think they would give nice treatment to a first time guest. They're ok because their prices are low and their work is mostly good. I brought my husband's dress shirts in before 10 am and got them back the next day after 5 pm. Out of the whole lot, 2-3 shirts had some wrinkled spots, but were overall passable. While picking up the shirts, I noticed their clientele is varied, so the cheapo dry cleaners aren't just for a certain demographic. I don't think I'd trust this place to dry clean my more expensive/delicate clothes, but wouldn't think twice about coming back to have dress shirts cleaned and pressed. I have used this location for years. Good prices, but that comes with a cost. I often end up with shirts that have torn sleeves which they tell me are my fault or are normal wear and tear. For the most part I have come to accept this as the cost of doing business with this location. In my most recent interaction they lost (stole) two of my expensive dress shirts. When you take them your clothes they will count them at the reception desk, you'll pay and a day later come back to pick up your items. I normally do not count the shirts at pickup because they have them in bags of 10. BIG MISTAKE, I was missing TWO shirts. I went into the store and asked if they had mistakenly forgot to put them In my order. They were like no, we gave them to you. I went home, looked at the tag numbers associated with the receipt and found that in my middle order of ten shirts two shirts were missing. So not likely these were placed in someone else's order, they were likely stolen by their staff. I called the store multiple times, no response from management or the owners. I called the police, and have been advised to take them to small claims court. Save yourself the heartburn and don't take these guys your expense clothes or you will end up like me paying for the dry clean service and having your expensive clothes stolen! read more

After going to zips for two years and having multiple button broken buttons which I know, is part of the process and happens shirts, I never complained. I returned today with a shirt that was ripped the bottom. I asked the manager if is there anything they can do or can a tailor fix it? I was not looking for compensation to replace the shirt since it was older just repair since I like the shirt, and they zips had torn it. The manager said she could ask the tailor but I would need to pay because they don't know if they cleaned the shirt and were responsible. Long story short the manager said it would be $12 dollars. I can afford $12 but it was the principle that they were making me pay for something they messed up on and I go to zips almost on a weekly basis. Oh and I asked if the woman I was speaking to was the owner or the manager and she said she does not feel comfortable answering that question. I took a dress there for dry cleaning and it was ready quickly for pickup. Unfortunately, I didn't inspect the item before leaving the store. When I went to wear it, I found that one of the adjustable straps on the dress was broken and they had pinned it to the hanger without saying anything. I took it back and they initially said they would take care of fixing it without a problem. Then, after a week, I hadn't heard back so went to the store and talked to the manager, Kevin. He said that they don't fix things like buttons, etc that come off an item. However, after strong debate, they agreed to fix the adjustable straps which really involved 4 plastic pieces. This took over a month before they finally said that it was ready for pickup. That was after me calling numerous times throughout the month and them having difficulty finding parts for an adjustable strap. I finally pick it up on Friday last week. The adjustable straps are no longer adjustable and they just sewed plastic rings into the straps. It looks horrible and the straps no longer function as adjustable like they are supposed to. Absolutely ridiculous! What kind of tailor do they have working there!? I have given up and will take my dress to someplace else to repair. read more

Sure Zips is convenient where you can have your clothes back to you within the same day, and sure it's cheaper than any other dry cleaner, but the reason I'm giving this place 5 stars is because of the good people that work there. There have been so many instances of just genuinely good people working there but two specific sets of instances particularly standout to me that I want to share. Before they started taking credit card they used to require payment in cash prior to services being rendered. I once thought I had enough cash until I got there and realized I was a little short. One of the guys, Joe, when seeing I was short a few bucks, literally lent me 5 dollars on the spot so I could turn my dry cleaning in. He didn't even think twice. I didn't even get a chance to pay him back until a few days later and never once did he bother me for it. Unheard of! More recently I turned in some clothes and later in the day I received a call from Kevin, the owner/operator. He told me that one of the workers found money in the clothes and he would hold the money for me. What is even more surprising is it was over $100 that my wife had left in her clothes. I couldn't believe how honest these workers are. Maybe I'm jaded, but experiences here really restored my faith in humanity. I think even if I was working there I would have kept that money and yet these good people were so honest from the bottom to the top. Now days we have so many choices for just about everything we use/consume. To me what differentiates things is service and people. I dropped off a lab coat that I was required to wear for my nursing school pinning ceremony. I didn't even take it out of the plastic until I was walking in the ceremony because I wanted it to be perfect. I was saddened to find that the lapels of the jacket were creased on both sides right where I was supposed to place my nursing pins. I was very disappointed. $3.50 was cheap and they are close to my home but I will never go back to them to have anything pressed again. Very disappointed. Honestly I wish I could give this place a zero because I would. This was my first trip to this Zips location as it is closer to my home. I was taking some stuff in for my girlfriend that needed to be cleaned. The staff here in my opinion are very unprofessional. I walked in an approached the counter and wasn't even greeted with a "good afternoon" or a "hello". Instead I get "have you ever been here before?" Yeah, that's a great way to start off a business transaction. The other locations I have been too have taken my name and phone number, whomever was working the counter had me enter it myself on their computer they were using. Sure, I don't mind doing your work for you. I started going through the items that were to be dry cleaned. They took all but two items stating that the last two were a wash only. I tried to explain that these were not my items and they were being cleaned for someone else and I'm not sure what was wash only. Clearly they didn't care as they stated again in a condescending tone that they were wash only. By this time I should have taken the items and walked out, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt that maybe they were having a bad day. I got the receipt and I was told the items would be done by 5:00 P.M. the next day. Fast forward to the next afternoon and I attempted to pick up the items. Imagine how thrilled I was to be dealing with the same individual as the day before. Once again I didn't get a "good afternoon" "hello" or anything. She took the receipt and told me that the items weren't going to be done until after 5:00 P.M. This after being told the day before they would be done before 5:00 P.M. Other locations had my items done before 5:00 P.M. without an issue. Perhaps they should put "WILL BE DONE AFTER 5:00 P.M." on the receipt so there isn't a question. Sorry to say this will be my first and last experience with this location. I will go back to the other ones that I have dealt with. I may have to drive further from my home, but at least I know I will be greeted and not treated like garbage. read more

I'm a type of person that never want to write a review.. but this place had pissed me off 3 times... the first two times was they misplace my clothes and gave me some other people clothes... took them back and had to wait and keep calling to see if they found it... I've been a customer at Zips Dry Cleaners in Chantilly for about 8 years. I have never seen such consistently great service in a dry cleaner before and wanted to share this. Both with the dry cleaning - a great value for the price, ready on time, and even email notification to let me know that my clothes are ready for pick up, and for alterations - beautiful work done at a reasonable price, I have been very happy at Zips. I think the best part of the process is working with the people at Zips. Always friendly and welcoming they seem to care a lot about the work.
