Brought in 8 dress shirts for laundering at a cost of $2.75 each ,I thought, but one of the shirts, IAW the shop owner, needed to be hand ironed at a cost of $5.95. If I had known this at drop off I would have asked why or decided not to have the shirt laundered. I tried out Expert Cleaners last week after discovering them in the shopping center closest to my home - they are about a mile or so closer to me than Hope Cleaners at the eastern end of Haymarket. I note that Expert Cleaners has a sign in their window stating they only use organic methods of cleaning. I'm not sure what that means at this point - but I am curious and plan to inquire about this later this week when I go back to pick up some shirts and slacks I dropped off. I had them sew patches on karate outfits. They were quick, pleasant, and I feel fair priced at $7 each. I'd go there again. They seem to do a lot of alterations and repairs with their sewing machines over the front counters. read more

When I first started brining my clothes here a year ago I was hopeful that I had found "the" place. I didn't. Their work is good -- I have no complaints about that but their business practices stink. I've gone back and been charged more than I was told it would be because THEY decided an item (clearly marked as machine wash) needed dry cleaning. Other times they would take a causal sport shirt and charge me instead for a dress shirt -- a significantly higher laundry cost. At a minimum their idea of a dress shirt and mine are two very different things. At the worst, they're just looking for ways to take advantage of my wallet. Today, two sport shirts that should have been less than $6 to launder cost me $13.65 Why? Because they decided that a shirt that was polyster/modal was "silk" and needed to be dry cleaned. When I showed them the clearly marked tag with fabric and "Machine Wash" clarley marked they gave me... wait for it $1 back. They get to choose how to do business. I lived in Haymarket area since 2004 and this place is the oldest cleaners. In fact it was the only one at the time. Over the years, I tried every single cleaners in the area. And seen few of them go out of business as well. (Although under new owner/management) I honestly think the new owner is trying hard to maintain the quality and service level of previous owner as well as satisfy existing customers. I always keep honest review. In fact, you can see my comments can be very extreme in either positive or negative. Some of the feedback left by others below with 1 star with buttons? Really? I the heck do you guys even get shirt taken off without unbuttoning them? do you guys have a circus or something? I have been going to this place for about 5 months now. They are a little more expensive but they do a good job, particularly with alterations. I had a suit jacket with lining that I took to another nearby cleaners to get the sleeves shortened and they did an AWFUL job, two times they attempted. Finally I took it to this one and they did it properly. read more

Not good: I got wedding makeup on the inside of my Kate Spade wedding gown. Bad: My husband spilled champagne allll over my Pepperberry reception gown. Ugly: We were suuuuuuper busy after the wedding and it sat for over a year. The Pepperberry gown had some staining from where the champagne fell! My husband took them to the cleaners and they came back perfectly spotless. I have to thank them for saving two very nice dresses... and my peace! I would not have been able to forgive myself if these dresses had been permanently ruined! read more

I very rarely give out 1-star reviews, but these guys left me no choice. I stopped by yesterday because I was in the area and knew my wife would be returning today and could pick up my dry cleaning. One big positive for the shop was that their sign said they closed at 7pm, but they were still open at 7:20pm. I'm assuming the owner was the guy behind the counter since he was staying open later than advertised. I dropped off 5 shirts and 1 pair of pants and was given an invoice for $12.80. Reasonable enough and my stuff would be ready the next evening. Here is where my gripe comes in. My wife stopped by this evening to pick up my stuff and was charged $21.20. She was told two of the shirts were silk and they HAD to charge more. I was pretty bent about the uncharge because I had laid my stuff on the counter the night before and the gentleman gave me my invoice. It's not like I handed him a laundry bag and tried to pull a fast one on anyone. I called the store to explain my displeasure with the price switch, but all I got was an apology. I would have been happy getting a refund so my receipt matched my invoice. The woman I spoke to was not sympathetic to my argument that upping my invoice by 40% was not OK. read more

Dropped off two suit pants and multiple white blouses. Got alterations in the waist and added length onto pants and they are perfect. I was anxious for the outcome of my blouses as one of them had a rather large lipgloss splatter on it, and they were also done perfectly. Have definitely become a regular customer. read more

I hesitated to write this review as I prefer to advocate for the "mom and pop" type establishments, but I feel in this situation it was warranted. Treating people rudely, dishonestly taking advantage of customers by using ridiculously cheap materials (in this case PAPER CLIPS) without disclosure, and then charging a premium for subpar work is beyond unacceptable. ---------- I've used this place twice for shoe repair. The first time was for the cleaning and conditioning of my UGGs. When I arrived to pick up my UGGs, they were not able to locate them. They agreed to replace them. I was asked not hold this incident against them and to try them again. I did only because am also a huge advocate for small businesses and they provided an appropriate resolution at the time to the lost UGG issue. The second time around I took my brown riding boots to EC for repair. I primarily needed the pulls to the zippers to be replaced and polishing. The cost was $18. The polishing was impeccable, but the zipper pull coupled with the customer service that followed was another story. The pulls were replaced with PAPER CLIPS...yes, the small kind that are used for documents. I've never known paper clips to be used for shoes. I was not informed of this in advance and didn't notice until I went to wear them one day. Of course, a paper clip would not be strong enough to sustain being zipped up on a riding boot and that is how I found out what had been used. When I returned to EC to express my concern, the owners threw their hands up and very unprofessionally told me to take up the issue with the third-party shoe repairman they used. I had concern with this as my business relationship was established with EC not any other entity. There should be no need for a customer of EC to address this issue directly with their third-party choice. EC should, like any other reputable business, own and be accountable for who they chose to outsource services with. Aside from that, I knew nothing about the the third-party shoe repair company and contact info for this establishment not been provided. In my opinion, it was extremely inappropriate for EC to pass the buck in asking me to deal directly with their partner to get the boots repaired appropriately. I will never use this place again or refer anyone here. Caution to anyone doing business here, be sure you are getting what you are paying for. I've used Expert Cleaners quite a few times now and I must say for the most part I'm satisfied with the services they provide. They aren't anything super awesome or special but they get the job done, which is what matters to me most. The staff here is always pleasant and they treat me the way a customer should be treated. The reason this matters so much is because I have been to other places and not received the same level of customer service. So far they've never lost or messed up my clothes, so that's a plus. Their prices are a tad on the high side but I'm willing to pay a little more because they do such a good job. They are always quick and they don't make you pay up front which is also something I appreciate. I have been to several cleaners in the past that make you pay up front and to be honest I'm not a fan of that style of service. One last thing I like about this Expert Cleaners is that they accept credit cards. This day in age that is pretty standard and it is very frustrating when I go somewhere that doesn't accept credit cards. I hate to keep comparing them to other cleaners but it matters a bunch because this industry has very few differences. When you can find those differences and they work in favor of the customer it's win for everyone. *This business is gun carry friendly. read more

Terrible terrible experience today. I have been going to this cleaner for nearly 15 years. Owners recently changed and new staff is completely disrespectful! I was told that it is now my job to unbutton all shirts and not to bring them in again without unbuttoning. That it is my job, not theirs as it is too much work for them and that they are only there to wash. I would give them a zero stars if I could. The previous owners were fantastic to work with and when I spoke with owner she said it's their policy and there was no apology for how disrespectful the staff was to me in communicating this new policy. read more

We moved to Haymarket a few months ago and found a valupak coupon for Expert Cleaners. My husband dropped off some clothes along with the coupon. They gave him a pickup receipt and it stated $28. When he picked his clothes up they charged him over $60! My husband didn't pay attention to the receipt when he picked his clothes up so he went back the following day to discuss the charge. they admitted to making an error by charging him the coupon price on the slacks when it should have been only the shirts. They would not credit us. Shame on a business that does that. I am going to return to talk to them. They should have only charged what they quoted initially on the receipt. If they don't credit us they have lost a customer. read more

I decided to try Expert Cleaners after reading so many positive reviews on Yelp. I have never been let down. They are not the closest to my home but the extra time and distance are worth it as they do an excellent job, especially removing difficult stains from delicate fabrics. I had taken an expensive silk blouse to a cleaners near my home and they were unable to remove a stain. I took it by Expert and the gentleman behind the counter took it to the back and immediately removed the stain. They also successfully removed stains from a silk scarf and another delicate silk top. They do a great job on sweaters and obviously have become my go-to cleaners. They are the best in the Gainesville/Haymarket area. read more

Been taking my clothes here for less than six months but on a pretty regular basis (every two to three weeks). The staff is friendly and the job they do is very good. Most of my shirts are seda/silk and merino wool and most of my pants are wool. The shirts are extremely difficult to clean. I was very scared to take any of my clothes to a new dry cleaner, but my fiancé said he has been taking his business suits and shirts there for years and he never had any issues. Since I was new to Haymarket and I've heard horror stories about other dry cleaners in this area I only took a couple of shirts and pants in at first, just to play it safe. Results were excellent! My average bill is around $90-$120 (I don't ever look at the cost breakdown for each item) so I can't speak for how well they are priced. It is well worth it for me tho! There was one issue I experienced once where the crease on one pair of pants did not match the existing crease. I took the pants back and the lady at the front desk (I assume she is one of the owners) looked at it and immediately apologized and fixed it for no charge. It was an isolated incident and I was actually shocked at how easy and professional the issue was handled. Oh, and my clothes don't have any chemical scent so that's a plus in my books! These people are very polite and very honest: when I came in to pick up my ties this morning they admitted that the stains didnt completely come out, but when I looked at it, the ties looked almost perfect. They do a fine job for a decent price on shirts. There are cheaper places for pants and suits but these guys do a good job. I have only had one bad experience with a shirt that ended up with some nasty wrinkles pressed in. When I have shirts or pants that are missing a button when they go in they always come out with a new button at no charge. read more

Dropped off nearly 2 dozen shirts for laundering, pants for dry cleaning and 2 dresses for alteration of hems. Received a call that they only had one less shirt than what I dropped off, the hemming turned out to be $2 additional per dress than what I was on the receipt and the work was HORRIBLE. They "sent out" the alterations and the hemming which was a double row was wavy and had to be to be redone. I complained about having to pay the additional $2 per dress and they wouldn't budge on the fee (originally $20 per dress). They also wouldn't compensate me for the additional time I had to wait for the hemming to be redone and the time I had to spend to come back. I received the dresses the second time and the work was still subpar. I didn't try on the dresses at the shop when I picked them up as I had just worked-out. I did state to the cashier that I would try them after I got home to make sure they were done properly. Her response was that "they were pinned while you were here". With the quality of the hemming and the fact that the cashier was changing the pinning at the counter, I doubt it was done properly. As far as the missing shirt, no word on where it went. They say they never received it. I will not be going back and do not recommend them. read more
