Thanks zippys for not including a fork so I couldn't eat my lunch until 3.5 hours later. Super annoying and inconvenient. I drove in to order their special which was "Hawaiian Stew" and let me tell you, it's not a stew it's pretty much a soup. (Photo attached) It's already is bad that it does not look like the photos. It's bland and looks like they forgot any seasonings. Also it's about $16. They also asked for tip, which I left and they couldn't even have the decency to put at least a spoon so I can attempt to enjoy their bland "stew" I'm so disappointed. I saw their February specials and thought I'd dine at Zippy's. Something I've not done in probably a year. For those of you who are not familiar with the Zippy's name, let me shed some light: Zippy's opened its first fastfood place in McCully Honolulu in the late 60's early 70's. The founding fathers owned a meat market and expanded to fast food preparation SPECIFICALLY Zippy's Chili. The years ticked by and their menu as well as their locations expanded. Today, they are on Generation Three of the family who makes Zippy's a household name. Now that said; let me say that with time and growth, things change and the larger you get, control may get lost along the say so please don't expect that all Zippy's be alike and uniform. Of the locations, Vineyard location is convenient for me with respect to proximity between my home and my work. Fortunately, Vineyard location management is on top of things. We used the Zippy's online ordering system which was great because you can select your preferred pickup time. When you get to Zippy's just pull into one of the assigned stalls and click the link on your email confirmation and let them know what stall number you are in. They bring out your food for you so you never have to leave your car! Super easy and efficient system! My favorite go to meal is always the Zip Pac or breakfast Omelette Sandwich. This time around we got that Zip Pac Deluxe ($13.90) which came with a piece of fried chicken, breaded fish, a slice of teri beef, Spam, famous Zippy's chili with a rice topped by furikake and a slice of takuan. The food has forever been good although I really think they improved on their Mac salad. It's amazing though how the prices have skyrocketed through the roof. Today Mom and I decided to stop by here for Lunch. I picked this location because it's close to my husband's job site. Both of dined in and ordered the Roast Pork complete meal with corn chowder. Mom got hers with rice and corn with coffee and I got mine with mash and mac salad and a large diet. The corn chowder was nice and hot and was good. The Roast Pork plate had thick pieces of meat and good amount of gravy. The Roast Pork tastes good at this location with lots of flavor. When they cut the meat thicker the flavors come thru. We couldn't finish all of our food and we had to take the rest home. Both of us got a slice of Dream cake to go too. I definitely had to get my Diet Pepsi refill to go. We had a nice lunch and stayed here awhile after lunch because we were trying to finish our drinks. I needed to kill time and wait before I had to pick up hubby from work. Working late so decided to do quick drive through pick up at Zippys. Always a good go-to despite prices getting ridiculous (even pre-covid so that's not an excuse) - they need a kamaaina rate. But anywho... Called in my order. 1 oxtail for the coworker, and a zip pac no rice/extra cabbage for myself. Calls go to a "Call Center" for some reason. Apparently there is no "No Rice" button so the person was stumped. She transferred me to directly to the Counter since they should be able to help. NOPE. Still no button there either. Was told there is usually a button for something so they can discount it. Told her I didn't want a discount, I just didn't want the rice. I asked if a button was really necessary and if they can just not put rice. "Sorry, maam, we just can't do that." WHAAAAT?! The girl was really sweet so I kept my frustration to myself. I worked at Zippys back in the days...all we did was put NO, write it for the packers, and shout it to the kitchen. Easy-peasy. Not sure if they are no longer allowed to think for themselves or just aren't able to? Or maybe we were just the rebels of Zippys for allowing customers to have what they ask/pay for. I visit the drive up window several times a month. When it's late, I'm hungry and I'm lazy it's the perfect spot to visit. I call ahead, order over the phone , drive up and pick up my items. If my items are not quite ready, I pull forward and my food is brought out to me. My go to items, Korean fried chicken plate, Korean chicken chili combo or Chili and rice with onion and cheese and Lilikoi juice. The food is always good. Always consistent. Always hot. The workers are always friendly, patient and welcoming. I have not experienced a worker with a bad attitude. Everyone is very nice. That's a big deal to me. I appreciate it. Everyone talks about Zippy's and their chili so I had to check it out for myself. Let me confirm that their chili is delicious! I had no idea what Zippy's was until I got to Oahu and I was surprised to see that it's open 24/7. So you're telling me I could get Zippy's any time I wanted?! I wouldn't say that Zippy's chili is the best I've ever had but the shear fact that this place is open 24/7 is a huge plus in my book. I also got the zip pac meal which comes with a piece of fried chicken, breaded fish, spam and teriyaki beef. I appreciated how many different types of meats I got and it makes for a great variety. Zippy's is perfect when you want local comfort food. It's not super fast, and you do have to wait. Usually there wait time is reasonable. Today was a slow day with 3 people ahead of me...I waited 15 minutes for someone to scoop chili into a small container. I wanted to be in and out! They don't carry pancake mix anymore! Sadness! I used to live downtown so have been to Vineyard Zippys many times. Stopped in to have a quick burger and saimin yesterday. As a little back story, worked at Zippys back in the day so not only am I a devoted former employee, I still love the food. But I also recall the way things ran. So I sit at the counter and give my order after a few minutes. Then hung while waiting for the food. Lamenting that a burger and saimin woulda been half that price back when I was there... aging sux. Ahhhh my saimin hits the pass through. And then a few minutes later, the "prime" burger. I always wondered about the "prime" burger. I mean if it really is prime, why? Most people just want a burger, who cares if it's "prime"? Even back when it was kinda pricey. So I'm sitting there and the hostess that served me is arranging menus and talking to customers. Meanwhile my saimin is soaking up the dashi. After a while I just had to ask another waitress to give me my food. Funny cause she asked what I ordered and there was only one ticket hanging from the window and I already said my burger and noodles. She was nice though. So was the hostess, but that's just wrong. I know when I was there, Ms Awaya would have been banging the bell with her spatula by that time and Tomo would certainly have heard about it. LOL. Old memories never die. read more

This place is great because it opens at 6am even during the holidays! Servers are always friendly and they play Christmas music during the holidays and put up holiday decor throughout the restaurant. They're usually pretty fast with making your food, and you can't beat their Zip Min and Portuguese sausage, eggs and rice. Staples on the island. Don't forget to pick up your freshly made pastries on your way out. If you want to go casual, you can order at the counter and eat at the tables outside the restaurant. Dear zippys, I would like to thank the service of the vineyard team they were so accommodating and nice . I guess something had happen with my order on the app . I didn't realize it was cancelled till we arrived at zippys . The worker apologized for the confusion and got the manager . The manager Kimi came out and was still able to help us with the order for 2 barrels of chicken 2 barrels of rice and a lot more stuff . My son has his football awards today and we had to bring the food . So you can imagine the horror when we found out it didn't go through but luckily KIMI and staff was able to get us the order and gave my 3 kids a drink while we waited and even apologized for the wait when it really wasn't their fault .
