Sat down in the restaurant side where the seats are very comfortable, made our order quickly. She ordered the Won Ton Min and I got the Spaghetti meat sauce with garlic bread. I also added the soup of the day... Clam Chowder. Her Won Ton Min was loaded with goodies and it was a pretty good size bowl. My Spaghetti was very delicious andI always ordered this because Zippy's is consistent. But the big surprise was my garlic bread. It was very crispy and crunchy like I would make it! I'm thinking the chef at the time really takes the time to make the bread how Zippy's originally made it years ago! My Clam Chowder came later, probably because I order the large bowl. So it was piping hot. I wolfed it down after I ate half my spaghetti, lol. Overall, the experience was more amazing with the server being attentive, even though it was a very busy Monday night. After a Costco run all that work does build an appetite and remembered that I had a couple of fundraiser tickets which would make a perfect dinner for some Zippy's Chili...no beans for me and the fact that you're able to get it hot or cold is fantastic convenience. Which this Nimitz location is since it's just right down the road from Costco which has probably the larger parking lot so you don't have to struggle and search, it's a win win situation as help a fundraiser while enjoy the local favorite which does have other options besides chili but I like to keep it simple. They have both done and takeout sections and a spacious takeout dining area that's covered and air conditioned is always a plus along with restroom making this your next stop if you're in the area. This is the Zippy's location I always go to once I land on Oahu. I'm not sure why, but it always sets my vacation if I go to this location. I usually get sweet sour spareribs with fries if the dish is available ... It's a special, not on the daily menu, but it is a regular item on their rotating list of specials. If they don't have it, I get the Korean Chicken salad or a ZipPac. The prices keep increasing ... A sign of the times. One thing we have notices is that the some of the portions have been downsized ... We don't know how they do it but the fried chicken thighs seem smaller than in years past. Zippy's on the Nimitz is my favorite spot to get food to go for my flight home. Little crackers and a couple of cookies on Southwest isn't enough to hold me on the flight home. This review is more of a price update than refreshing my last review. I grabbed a spaghetti and garlic bread meal to eat on the flight home. It was good as usual. Staff was nice, ordered my food, got out and to the airport early. If you have time or not a lot of time, this location is on the way to the airport on the Nimitz. Really glad we came here. It's hard to describe the food in one or two words if you haven't been Zippy's. As someone from Florida, if I could sum it up in a couple of words is comfort food. We got the triple chicken, the Zip Pac and oxtail tail soup, along with a side of Portuguese sausage. I think the triple chicken was the best one of the bunch but you can't go wrong with anything here. It's also worth trying desert too. It wasn't exactly lunchtime, but I didn't feel like eating an omelette. I go to this location quite frequently there are a lot of things that I could eat, but Zippys especially this location is my favorite go to because of the staff.... It's so important because my parents really like the women that work in the mornings... Tess, Marianne, Wendy, and Arlene. These ladies are so accommodating, and they're so good at their job... The veggie tofu burger is really my favorite item. It is as good as the rest of the Burgers. I've had a chance to try most all the burgers at one point until my diet changed ... lol. I like the veggie- tofu burger most cause it's not heavy. When you get a chance to go to this location, make sure you're there between 10 to about 1 PM. That way you can get help by one of the four waitresses that I mentioned. I do recommend a lot more dishes that I've eaten there as you can see the post with a lot of photographs but I really like the veggie tofu burger. It's absolutely agree midday lunch, brunch type of item. The food at this location was pretty consistent and tasty. The food was the same as other Zippy's locations, which isn't a bad thing. This location is consistent and uniform to the other locations. The service from our waitress was pretty good. She was friendly, helpful, and kept us informed. For example, I ordered the corn chowder, my waitress came back right away and apologized that they ran out after she placed the order. The main entrees took a little while to come to us. But it was too long of a wait. The ambiance was not bad. The restaurant wasn't too dirty. There were a few tables that stayed uncleaned while we dined. But it seemed like that they may have been undermanned for that night's dinner service. But all in all, not bad at all from this location. read more

Came here once we landed in Hawaii. They had two sides for dinning. One side is more of a dinner and the other side it like a bakery and dinning. There was so much to order and to try out. Took a wrong turn and ended up here. It was pretty random, but we figured we could find something to eat with very little time left. I didn't see any salad on the menu. I would suggest that they put that on the menu. Ordered the burger and asked for a "lettuce wrap " instead of a bun/bread. The cashier looked at me like I was from Mars.... She called another cashier over to ask for help. So basically instead of a bun, I just wanted lettuce. I was told the lettuce was pre cut and small so they might not be able to do it. Bruhhh.. be specific at this location or you're gonna be irritated at yourself. In my defense I was in the middle of a lunch break. I asked for a regular chili bowl with cheese but forgot to say no beans and to have it with rice. So I paid $3 for 2 scoops rice and kicking myself for not remembering to ask for chili without beans. Stopped by Zippys for brunch. I was Ono for waffles or pancakes. My other half hungered for a savory omelette. This place was well lit and welcoming. As you enter the restaurant side, you will see the holiday decorations. Our wait for a host to seat us was less than 3 minutes. Our server gave us suggestions and I ended up selecting the waffles with whipped cream and a side of bacon. The Zippys omelette with Portuguese sausage was the other choice. Coffee as well! Everything was delicious. This is a nice place to have a meal. Lots of free parking. Great place to stop before heading to Costco Iwilei or your return home from the airport to town. They had a spaghetti chicken mix plate that came with fried chicken, spaghetti, garlic bread, and corn that was a steal! We also ordered a mini chili chicken and small saimin. Katsu was overcooked and very hard . very disappointed like buying groceries would have been worth the 40.00 dollars for buying groceries. This is the second time this has happened to me at this location. I ordered by phone at 12:18 pm. I paid at the counter at 12:37. The screen said my order was ready for pickup (along with at least ten other orders). The cashier never called my name for pickup. Turns out the order had been sitting on the counter and no one (especially the cashiers) checked to see why it wasn't picked up. That shouldn't be my responsibility. Finally given at 1:04 pm. I get why my friends from Oahu wax poetic about Zippy's when they're away from home. It's if Denny's was GOOD. There's really something for everyone here--the typical stuff that goes on plate lunches, salads, spaghetti, chicken...It's also nice that you can get a half order of almost everything. I went with my friends' recommendations to try the Portugese bean soup and their chili. I have never had chili with rice but it is truly the combo of dreams. There is something about the Zippy's chili that tastes a little bit different--it's more beefy and creamy. With rice, it is the ultimate comfort dish. The bean soup was so good that I couldn't help but order it the next time we came; It's smoky and hearty. We also tried the dobash and chantilly cakes. I was impressed that both of them weren't too sweet and very moist; The thick layer of chantilly would have fooled me. Lastly, the second time we came, we went to the Makiki location around 10 PM to have a bite and catch up with a friend. I'm sure all of the servers were crazy tired, but everyone was so kind to us. Lots of free parking at this location. It is renovated like the other Zippy's and it's clean and well lit. Our waitress was super sweet and it seemed like she was the only waitstaff at this time.
