This visit took me to the Kalihi location where I was determined to try the wrecking crew pack. Those who know me know that I am a lemming. That said you will know that I watched an ad on television of this wrecking crew pack featuring Jason Momoa. I guess they filmed the movie in Hawaii and Zippy's in honor of that film and Jason created this wrecking crew pack. It's a lot of food for $15.45. The food at this location is consistent in comport the other Zippy's locations. The food that we ordered came out correct. We ordered the chili frank, Zip Pac, hamburger steak, and large Saimin to go. They got our carry out order correct. The service was pretty good. The staff were friendly and helpful. They had our 11am carry out order ready to go a few minutes before 11am. The ambiance is pretty spacious and clean. This restaurant was clean and with no litter on the ground. The only thing this location has a problem has is the limited amount of parking. Especially when you go during meal times like lunch. There's not that much parking available. read more

Was my first time here, as this place was recommended to try. Zippys appears to be a fast food chain restaurant with many options from American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Hawaiian cuisine. Theres also pastries. This location was kinda run down and warm inside, probably because of the humidity. Anywho our group was able to get seatings. You'll have to order before sitting. The service was OK. They didn't get one of orders so we had to reorder again. I ordered the loco moco which was ok, wasn't flavorful and didn't hit the spot. The oxtail soup was $29 and was mediocre. The beef curry didnt have flavor and the macaroni was not great either. I ate a third of my portion only. We also had the shoyu pork which is braised pork belly. I forgot to take a picture of this dish but it was my favorite out of what we ordered as the pork belly was tender with right balance of flavors. The restaurant has parking in the back. Pretty small but I found parking. I tried the spam masubi and furikake salmon katzu salad. The salmon wasn't bad but I kinda wished it was grilled. If you like fried fish tho this was nicely crisp on the outside and didn't leave a bad oily taste. Plenty of seating indoors. Staff are pleasant. This specific one is in Kalihi - away from the hustle & bustle of the more touristy locations. They do not have the dine in restaurant side, but you can order from the counter and sit wherever you please. Small bakery selection of cakes & donuts as well. Korean fried chicken is my favorite here. The plate comes with chicken, mac salad, & rice - option to get a mini size too. Their chili fries, loco moco, musubi, & saimin are delicious. The best bang for your buck are the mixed plates - all the favorites in one plate for $16, easily shared between two. Huge menu, it's difficult to narrow it down especially when you want to try it all. Check out their daily specials for some deals. We love the food here. Excellent customer service. It was my first time stepping foot in this location. It's one of their smaller restaurants. It doesn't have a dine in restaurant section. It just has the take out counter side. I was surprised that the inside was very bright and clean. They also have a Napoleon's Bakery. We always seem to be getting the Mochizadas. A lot of their locations sell out by dinner time. We were driving by and decided to see if they had any left. They did have it. We placed our order and were out of there in a minute. Their Mochizadas are so addicting. They're chewy with a sugary coating on the outside. If you haven't tried it, you need to go and try one. read more

My latest adventures to Zippy's were in Kalihi, as I took my coworker here. I swar, my coworker is Zippy's "numba #1" FAN, and I would be surprised if there was a picture of him if there ever was a "Zippy's hall of fame", for loyal customers! Lol! The Kalihi location of Zippy's is an enclosed take out joint. No table service, you order your food at the ordering counter, when your food is ready, they will call your number. You pick up your food order at the counter, then you look for a place to sit & eat within the restaurant (if you want to eat it right away). I have a lot of favorites at Zippy's, but what really stands out for me is the - Zip Pack, Surf Pack, Chili (regular or vegetarian), Turkey Neck Soup, Oxtail Soup, & da Frrrrrrried Chicken! For dessert, it's the Apple Napples, & of course da Strawberry Cream Cheese Square! Yum!!! Over the years, Zippy's food has gone up quite a bit, but like most eateries, I guess raising prices is needed in order to survive. Super excited to try this place! I've never been to Hawaii but I've heard the rave of Zippy's. This was the first place we went to after we landed. We were starving! I ordered the Saimin which was $12.90 and the Loco Moco for $16.45 to share with my daughter. The portion was average but a bit small for the price but heyyy it's Zippy's! So it should be worth it! No, No, No...I was a bit disappointed. The food was OK but not anything special so it was a waste of money. The wifey rolls her eyes whenever I say, "Zippy's for dinner yes?" since there's SO many other places to go, but this place is simple and tasty. Fried Chicken - A couple times perfectly cooked a couple times slightly overcooked, all the time tasty. If you get here at the wrong time, the chicken may be sitting in the warmer too long and may dry out, but this location seems to be okay with this, maybe they just have enough churn. Zip Pack - want a sample of the sodium bombs of Hawaiian cuisine? get this! Super tasty mac salad, white rice, and a few slices of various tasty goodness (beef, spam, fish, chicken thigh) yum-o. WHY????! I used to come to Zippys all the time, especially when we stayed down the road. Today I said "lets give zippys a try." Its been a while and when we do come I usually order, chili, ZipPac, fried saimin or breakfast Portuguese omelette sandwich . Today me and my boyfriend thought we haven't had korean chicken in years. Lets get a plate. The difference from before and now, before used go have all kine pieces of chicken different shapes and sizes. Some pieces was all skin with small Piece meat on it. Now, all the chicken is shaped like a ball with a nice portion of meat. Honestly missed the old way. But flavors still the same, thats great! Reason for my 2 star is because not only do I order food from here, but for todays visit.... My chicken was raw. I felt slimy pieces in my chicken when I bit into it. And honestly, I just ate it until I was like why is it all weird and looked inside. ITS RAW. Pink!!!! My boyfriend said "nahhh its not" I ignored it and continued eating... ok some were cooked all white meat in there.... Until I came across another slimy piece... PINK... took a picture with flash. We came for breakfast on Sunday and Evangeline took my order. I ordered the Korean Chicken Breakfast with brown rice, bacon, eggs and brown rice snd and a Kid's Meal Grilled Cheese Combo. I did say brown rice for the 2 breakfasts and asked if French fries came with the kids combo just to make sure. Evangeline did not at any time repeat the brown rice and told me the kids grilled cheese does not come with French fries. I was puzzled as it usually does. I ordered another fries and ended up with 2 orders of fries when I only wanted 1. I did not want to argue because she seemed to be listening but not hearing what I what I was saying. I also ordered 2 iced teas. When she repeated my order she did not say brown rice so I corrected her but she didn't acknowledge that she heard me. I also corrected her on the iced teas. Again, no acknowledgment. When I got my order it had white rice and only 1 iced tea and I asked where the second one was , she said she didn't charge me for it so I had to pay for that. I am so disappointed today! I order for pick up for convenience and pay online. I had my youngest child with me in the car and it's normally quick! I followed the email instructions stated my Car color make and model and stall # and waited patiently. But after watching several cars come and go I was super confused so then sent a text reply as it says I can. No reply so I call. I call and get transferred and the worker who picked answered didn't seem to realize I was waiting. when my food was finally brought out after 20+ min waiting I ask what happened and was told they did not receive any notification that I was waiting.
