    Chicken katsu curry

Can't go wrong with the fried chicken at Zippy's! The overall food is so awesome! Always love my zip pac (now the deluxe). The fried chicken is so tasty and nostalgic. Hard to explain, just have to try it! Service is always great. Quick and fast. Ambiance is comfortable, like an old time take out restaurant and always feel welcomed in.

Was my first time here, as this place was recommended to try. Zippys appears to be a fast food chain restaurant with many options from American, Japanese, Korean, Chinese, and Hawaiian cuisine. Theres also pastries. This location was kinda run down and warm inside, probably because of the humidity. Anywho our group was able to get seatings. You'll have to order before sitting. The service was OK. They didn't get one of orders so we had to reorder again. I ordered the loco moco which was ok, wasn't flavorful and didn't hit the spot. The oxtail soup was $29 and was mediocre. The beef curry didnt have flavor and the macaroni was not great either. I ate a third of my portion only. We also had the shoyu pork which is braised pork belly. I forgot to take a picture of this dish but it was my favorite out of what we ordered as the pork belly was tender with right balance of flavors. Just know that the dishes didn't come with meal options so you'll have to order drinks separately. Will probably try other zippys locations as i do wanna try other food options.

The restaurant has parking in the back. Pretty small but I found parking. I tried the spam masubi and furikake salmon katzu salad. The salmon wasn't bad but I kinda wished it was grilled. If you like fried fish tho this was nicely crisp on the outside and didn't leave a bad oily taste. Plenty of seating indoors. Staff are pleasant. They have a restroom outside and you need to get the key from them but it was a tad dirty.

    Club sandwich and macaroni salad

The Mac salad was amazing, the club sandwich was good, but the Haupia cake was to die for! Moist delicious and oh so coconut-y!

First stop straight from the airport. Nothing like good old Zippy's to satiate you after a long travel day. This specific one is in Kalihi - away from the hustle & bustle of the more touristy locations. They do not have the dine in restaurant side, but you can order from the counter and sit wherever you please. Small bakery selection of cakes & donuts as well. Korean fried chicken is my favorite here. The plate comes with chicken, mac salad, & rice - option to get a mini size too. Their chili fries, loco moco, musubi, & saimin are delicious. The best bang for your buck are the mixed plates - all the favorites in one plate for $16, easily shared between two. Huge menu, it's difficult to narrow it down especially when you want to try it all. Check out their daily specials for some deals. We love the food here. Excellent customer service. Affordable & delicious meals. ...but why is the oxtail soup $30 for an order? Wanted to try but that's quite expensive for a diner entree, maybe next time.

It was my first time stepping foot in this location. It's one of their smaller restaurants. It doesn't have a dine in restaurant section. It just has the take out counter side. I was surprised that the inside was very bright and clean. They also have a Napoleon's Bakery. We always seem to be getting the Mochizadas. A lot of their locations sell out by dinner time. We were driving by and decided to see if they had any left. They did have it. We placed our order and were out of there in a minute. Their Mochizadas are so addicting. They're chewy with a sugary coating on the outside. If you haven't tried it, you need to go and try one.

One thing is for sure, whenever you step into a Zippy's restaurant, no matter which location you go to, I can pretty much guarantee you'll get consistent "local style" comfort grindages! My latest adventures to Zippy's were in Kalihi, as I took my coworker here. I swar, my coworker is Zippy's "numba #1" FAN, and I would be surprised if there was a picture of him if there ever was a "Zippy's hall of fame", for loyal customers! Lol! The Kalihi location of Zippy's is an enclosed take out joint. No table service, you order your food at the ordering counter, when your food is ready, they will call your number. You pick up your food order at the counter, then you look for a place to sit & eat within the restaurant (if you want to eat it right away). I have a lot of favorites at Zippy's, but what really stands out for me is the - Zip Pack, Surf Pack, Chili (regular or vegetarian), Turkey Neck Soup, Oxtail Soup, & da Frrrrrrried Chicken! For dessert, it's the Apple Napples, & of course da Strawberry Cream Cheese Square! Yum!!! Over the years, Zippy's food has gone up quite a bit, but like most eateries, I guess raising prices is needed in order to survive. This takeout location is clean, and free parking is available in the back of the restaurant. Support local, and ya can't go wrong with local style comfort food!

Don't go to this one. They suck. I ordered Hawaiian plate and they just gave me laulau and the 2 laulau had 1 tiny piece of meat and the rest fat. PISSED OFF. What a scam in Kalihi. Worst zippys

Super excited to try this place! I've never been to Hawaii but I've heard the rave of Zippy's. This was the first place we went to after we landed. We were starving! I ordered the Saimin which was $12.90 and the Loco Moco for $16.45 to share with my daughter. The portion was average but a bit small for the price but heyyy it's Zippy's! So it should be worth it! No, No, No...I was a bit disappointed. The food was OK but not anything special so it was a waste of money. Even trying other places after this Zippy's, there are other places cheaper and tastier than this. The customer service was good and the food is mediocre. This is definitely like a McDonald's version of Hawaiian food with the price of a restaurant.

    Amber K.

The chicken was super juicy and crispy. They fried it fresh so it was hot too. The chili could've used more ground meat in my opinion but everything was really good. I didn't really like the mochizada I'm not sure if it's because it wasn't fresh but when I bit into it it was super dense and not at all what I was expecting. I liked the warmed up apple knapple better.

    Looks like an ube Napple

*Update*. I really thought Zippy's was gonna make it right. Marites Carillo the manager contacted me and ask for my mailing address cause she wanted to send me a coupon. I really didn't want a coupon but if you are gonna offer it and ask for my address at least follow through and send it. 4 months later and nothing.

There's so many reasons people rate things m'eh. Honestly, coming to Zippy's is like coming to McDonald's. You know what you're getting into. Zippy's is our go to place for quick meals when visiting Hawaii. The wifey rolls her eyes whenever I say, "Zippy's for dinner yes?" since there's SO many other places to go, but this place is simple and tasty. Fried Chicken - A couple times perfectly cooked a couple times slightly overcooked, all the time tasty. If you get here at the wrong time, the chicken may be sitting in the warmer too long and may dry out, but this location seems to be okay with this, maybe they just have enough churn. Zip Pack - want a sample of the sodium bombs of Hawaiian cuisine? get this! Super tasty mac salad, white rice, and a few slices of various tasty goodness (beef, spam, fish, chicken thigh) yum-o. I don't know what to say other than that. This place is a little run down but who cares? you're not here for fine dining. Love this place.

The staff was super nice about it and was able to accommodate us, with only a small request that we be out by 8pm since there was another big party with a reservation coming in. Absolutely reasonable. They sat us right away at three large tables, which gave us plenty of space for food and didn't force us to sit super close together. Menus, waters, plates, napkins, and forks were all brought out immediately, and our waiter was quick to take our order. We started with the prix fixe menu for 8-10 guests and were going to add other items à la carte, but a handful of our group accidentally went to the other Side Street location (make sure your group is all on the same page), so what we ordered ended up being more than enough. We left stuffed and with 5 boxes of food still. Edamame was nice and steamy, and large enough to easily pop the beans out with your mouth. Wish there was a bit more salt though. The farmer's salad had everything going on from citrusy to salty to crispy. Avocado had a little bit of oxidation but the capers, dressing and potato curls provided plenty of reasons to overlook it. The fried rice came in a hefty portion, with sizable pieces of bacon and sausage. The chicken I didn't realize was boneless based on the shape of the deep fry, but it was nice to freely bite into it without worrying about hitting anything with my teeth. Probably a bit too much on fried bits but still good. Pork chops had a better meat to crisp ratio in my opinion, as well as juiciness. They even came with ketchup on the side, which I love as a pairing but don't see much of at restaurants. My favorite meat item was definitely the sizzling boneless kalbi. The presentation on the sizzling plate with a side of kimchi was spectacular, and the meat was full of flavor. We also ordered yakisoba, which wasn't part of the prix fixe. Tasted good but nothing past standard expectations. We let the waiter know we had a 30th birthday at the table, and they brought a couple scoops of vanilla ice cream with a candle, and did a decent job getting the whole room to participate in the singing. It could also be the type of crowd this place attracts, since it seemed that everyone was so friendly and approachable. Thanks to the quick and consistent service, we were out in a little over an hour with no complaints.

Hubby ordered one of the daily specials: pot roast. It's pretty good, tender, gravy is tasty, mac salad is decent, and if it's Saturday he always gets it. Very home style. Serving size is good. Oxtail pieces were almost fall off the bone but not quite. Flavor of the meat and broth was delicious. They have a container of ginger shoyu sauce on the table, but I'd you want only ginger you need to ask, which they bring quickly, but don't ask if you want it so if the server is busy you need to wait. One thing I especially like about Kapiolani's oxtail soup is the ginger is grated, not minced like some other establishments. I enjoy oxtail soup at several places but this is my go to because of taste, grated ginger, different sizes based on my preference for the day, and it's in Aiea and conveniently located for me.
