1/30/26 nishime chowfun vege tempura ~$9

lots to choose from at a very reasonable price. I don't know if any other on Oahu with this selection and low price. Food is normal quality expected from Japanese delicatessen. Go before 9 o'clock if you beat the .

It's been a while since I last came here since we no longer live in the area. We wanted to try something different this morning, so I suggested to my wife that I pick up some local-style inari sushi and other goodies. I tried to get there early as I read how they run out of some of the food if you arrive too late. I got there around 7:30 am, and fortunately there was no line at the time. I ordered 3 inari sushi, a whole roll of maki sushi, a medium container of namasu, some long rice and a sweet potato tempura. I forgot to ask for their nishime. Different from what I see of the Japan-style, their local-style inari ("cone") sushi are bigger, with bits of carrots scattered throughout. This reminds me of the cone sushi which my mother used to make as we were growing up. It was my first time trying the sweet potato tempura, so I wasn't sure what to expect. I cut it open to see how it looked inside. If someone just wanted a big piece of sweet potato with a thin layer of fried batter, they would have been disappointed with this. There was a thin sliver of sweet potato surrounded by what looked like a lot of fried bread. When eating something for the first time, I try not to let preconceived notions get in the way and accept things for what they are. As I first bit into the "tempura" I was pleasantly surprised at how crunchy it was on the outside and how tasty it was overall. It reminded me of undagi, except for its larger size and with the piece of sweet potato inside as a treat. I really enjoyed it and would definitely order it again. https://www.facebook.com/groups/hawaiiworld/permalink/284978387531324/?mibextid=oMANbw

Sad looking Maki sushi. Chow fun was terrible too. All it was was was noodles no carrots, nothing else. Not sure what happened to this place. I noticed different people too.

I just realized St. Louis Drive in has a okazuya side. It's on the left of the drive in. Food and service is excellent. Gotta go early because they sell out of some stuff fast. They are open Wednesday - Saturday 7am-1pm or until the food runs out. That day we got there around 11:00 and a lot of stuff was gone. We were able to get fried chicken, chow fun, shrimp & vegetable tempura, mac salad and namasu. We also grabbed some stuff from next door , that will be a different post.

    Menu. 06/07/18. Cash only.

Been coming for a long time. Very reasonable prices. Located next to Saint Louis drive inn, on Waialae Avenue, across St. Louis school, and Chaminade. Free parking in small lot. Still social distancing, allowing one person or one family in. Cash only. Closed Sunday and Monday. Note: each container charge. 25 Suggestion: go early for best selection. They will close early, if run out of food. Recommend: Fried fish tempura Vegetable tempura Chow fun Nishime Namasu Potato salad Musubi Cone sushi

Wanted a quick bite to eat so decided to go to St.Louis drive inn but there was a long line. So I went next door to St.Louis Delicatessen. Of course not to much selection because I got there like about 12:30pm and their selection wasn't much left . As you know for Okazuya you need to go early. I ordered their Maki sushi, shrimp tempura and fried chicken. I liked their chicken it was moist and crispy ,shrimp tempura was ok more on the battered side and the Maki sushi was ok. I think next time I will try their chow fun looked good. I'll probably go back and support them . Due to the Covid19 support local !

Cheap Hawaiian eats. Classic old school style that is tasty and filling. This is not gourmet fare, but hits the spot for a beach lunch!

We had a 7pm reservation that I booked through Yelp. We arrived a few minutes before our time, and was quickly seated in a "cozy" little table for 2. This place is crackin' though. It's loud and energetic. Mostly because it's a small little place down a side street on Beach Walk. The staff is super friendly, and the food is even better. I had the pork and shrimp katsu set, and my husband had fancy pork katsu set. We also had edamame to start. Everything came out sizzling hot and to perfection. I should also mention, this place is clean. The staff was constantly cleaning tables and menus. I'm giving Ginza only 4 stars because no one ever came to refill our drinks. I know it's such a small thing, but I accidentally ate some of the spicy mustard that was buried on my plate under the salad. My mouth was ON FIRE! I drank all my Diet Coke and my husband had already finished his drink too. So ya, I was dying...lol! Overall though, I would 100% eat at Ginza again

Very random one morning after stopping by kona purveyors in Waikiki, I went to the restroom and while my husband was waiting for me he decided to randomly check if they had any reservations available and we were able to get one for the next day! Getting a reservation is definitely the way to go, I've seen people wait in standby however seating is not guaranteed since they prioritize those who have a reservation. The service was amazing! They are constantly checking up on you to see if you need anything else. I like how they offer different kinds of miso soup. I personally had limitations due to my shellfish allergy, but it was amazing! The katsu we ordered was one of the biggest one that they offer. It's crazy how big the katsu was and surprisingly it was super crispy, light, and even juicy in the inside! I would definitely recommend this place to anyone who wants to try katsu in hawaii!

The atmosphere and decor were great very warm and inviting and the service and overall vibe felt authentic. However, our experience with the food was disappointing this time. The tonkatsu we received was overcooked and slightly burnt, which gave it a bitter taste and made it hard to enjoy. For the price and reputation, we expected better consistency in quality. Overall, while we appreciate the ambience and understand why it's well-loved by many, this visit didn't meet our expectations, and it's not our favorite experience.

I've been to Mitch's a few times and when I saw that they opened up an Izakaya next door, I knew I had to try it and made a reservation on Yelp. Izakaya Mitch's specializes more in cooked dishes while the other side is more about the fresh / raw fish. But that didn't stop us from ordering the assorted sashimi. All the fish were from Japan and yes you can taste the difference. The fatty tuna was obviously my favorite but even the regular tuna and the hamachi was so buttery, it just melts in your mouth. Plus, it comes with real wasabi. Not horseradish, real wasabi. For the cooked dishes we got the hokkaido crab tempura with a side of matcha salt. One of the best tempuras I've ever had. The kamameshi, a rice dish with their fish of the day. We got the half order and it's kinda like a bibimbap where they mix the rice for you at your table. I saw that people were raving about this on Yelp and put in our order right when we got in because it takes 25-ish minutes to prepare. On special, they had a karei karaage. Karei is a flat fish and I've never had a fish karaage before, it was perfectly fried and dipped in the ponzu sauce it was so good. Ambiance is a no-frills kinda spot but very clean and feels homey and the service is amazing! Attentive and super personable.

One thing we all liked was that even though there were a lot of people in the restaurant (most came in after we ordered), we still were able to speak to one another without talking loud. This place has been a staple for my family ever since we moved back to O'ahu a few years ago. Bottom line? The soba noodles here are utterly fantastic. They are, in my humble opinion, the best on the island, and some of the best soba noodles I've ever had. I don't think anywhere else in Honolulu comes close. You come here to eat soba. Period. In addition to the soba being phenomenal, the other offerings at i-naba are also similarly great. Their tempura in particular is outstanding.
