Thanks to Donna O. My wife and I decided to try the Keiki meal fron Zippys. I had the Grilled Cheese and my wife ordered the Chicken and Spam musubi. Both were good. If you want to have a light a light meal these fit the bill. Enjoy

Zippy's vineyard and other locals place for me to go to ! After church, mom and I went down the Nuuanu Vineyard our favorite place to go...long queue ahead of us so I asked if counter seating available. Last two at the end was a nice place to be once in a while!

I tried the Friday Special for the month of February. It was the Hawaiian Plate and it was massive. Beef Stew, Kalua Pig, Lau Lau, a scoop of mac salad, and two scoops of rice. There is one day this month to order and if you do...come hungry. At $20, it is a satisfying meal. I could not finish the mac salad...not my fav side dish as it is.

Haven't been here in years. The seating area cleared out for distancing

So it's been quite a few years since I e been to this Zippy's, or any Zippy's as a matter of fact but since I know Joe K has never been to a Zippy's and we wanted a quick and nearby place lunch, Zippy's we went. I'd seen some ads on the limited time "Wrecking Crew" pac to help promote the movie so was all in on that. The other thing I was craving was chicken katsu so also got a Chicken Katsu plate. Many decades ago this location was one of the best fast food katsu plates around. Sad to say that's long been the case. The W.C. pac was ok, the thing I liked most about it was that it came with chili...another thing I've always enjoyed from Zippy's. The rest of the plate was a pile of rice with furikake, a breaded piece of fish that I'd never heard of before (hoki), a piece of fried chicken, and four pieces of Portuguese sausage, and of course a scoop of mac salad for good measure. All in all it was pretty mediocre but it did hit the spot. Will I be rushing back to eat here again? Probably not, unless it's for some Naples and Flaky Donuts. Those mofos are da BOMB!

Zippy's is a Hawaii institution. I have lived in Hawaii for 19 years and this was my first experience having Zippy's. Mostly because I live on Kauai where there isn't one. I always intended to eat here when visiting Oahu ...just something else always came. So...long over due. Busy as heck and only one person taking orders. And of course there was a problem with the customers before us. Ugh. Aunty at the register took it in stride and even helped the trouble makers carry their food to the car. Strange though...abandoning one's post with a HUGE line of hungry (equals grumpy) people. The take out area is huge and soul less which is fine for what it is. This area also has a Napoleon Bakery. We ordered a special "Wrecking Crew" movie tie in plate and a Chicken Katsu plate. The former included a piece of fried chicken, fried fish, Portuguese sausage, chili, Mac salad, and furikake rice. Everything super tasty. The katsu had Mac and 2 scoops rice. Good but nothing special.

Visited the take out counter service on Christmas Day. Gotta give credit to the local staple for being open and serving only onolicious food! Friendliest service from Ramona at the order window! She greeted me with a cheery "Merry Christmas!", took my order and repeated it back to me, was quick, friendly and professional! Made my morning! Ordered the turkey plate (a special with all the traditional fixings), a fried chix plate and a regular chili bowl! Order was accurate, food temp was hot and tasted onolicious! Mahalo Zippy's Vineyard for the always quick, accurate and friendly service! Shout out to Ramona! You made me smile and made my day!

Had a craving for some Zippy's chili and their Saimin so I found the closest location to my daughter's house. It's an easy to find and accessible location on the corner with a ton of parking. It's a large well lit location. I love the digital boards that show you the status of your order. I also love the locker system they have. The service was quick and friendly and I was in out in no time.

10-4-25 Saturday nite the line was waiting outside the door for the restaurant. Not many places were open late so we chose here as it was on the way home and Sweetie requested noodles and sushi. Since one party before us signed up with 20 people we decided to do the take out order window to the left. We ordered the Ohana Pack to feed 6 of us but by the time we got to Sweetie's house Bud had already fallen asleep & her dad was ready for bed after he congratulated her for their win at a competition. More food for 4 of us- the Korean fried chicken and fried noodles were excellent. It also came with tossed salad and chili. The parking lot was pretty full and that late at night at this location there were many homeless men lying on the sidewalk at the parking entrance. Some began howling and making it the perfect scenario for fright night. Once our order was ready, time to Hele On, quickly. We hastened to jump in the car without hesitation and be on our way.

Korean Fried Chicken Breakfast

They immediately served us water with our menus. I ordered the Korean Fried Chicken Breakfast which came with two eggs, Korean fried chicken, rice, and I chose SPAM as the protein. It was so good! The chicken was sweet and tender with a crispy outside, the rice and spam paired super well. The egg was a little undercooked but I didn't specify. My dad ordered the Lilikoi drink which was really sweat and tasted amazing. It was super refreshing. Our meals were $16-20 each and they had a lot of food. I had enough leftovers for a second full meal. Everyone enjoyed their meal and the service was very friendly.

My first time at a Zippy's and honestly was pleasantly surprised with the food. The food is really tasty, comes out warm and fast. We ordered the chicken trio and the zip combo. They cook their chicken super crispy and I was also really impressed by the fish that came in mine! Service is friendly and fast, but the location could really use a clean up. It's quite dirty inside so I'd suggest taking your food to go!

Spaghetti w/ meat sauce

Zippy's is always the to go place if you are looking for something that's a causal dinning eat. Even the food is not that good, but I will still give it a 4 star because the spacious spaces and the short wait for food. Grilled salmon w/ sweet corn 2.5/5 The salmon is overcooked with lack of flavor. If you are looking for something that's "healthy", sure; but I won't get it again just because it has no taste. Spaghetti w/ meat sauce 3/5 My always to go food if I am craving for spaghetti but don't want to go to actual pasta restaurants. The portion is pretty decent for such an affordable price, but the taste can't be compare to regular pasta restaurants. Korean fried chicken salad 5/5 One of the must order, local favor dishes. The fried chicken is fried perfectly that's not overcooked, but crispy and flavorful. It has this sweet but savory taste that can't be found in other fried chicken favor.

Zipping in... Really needed to stop by to pick up dinner and something sweet and though that Zippy's would be the perfect place to do both as they certainly do have just about everything you can imagine and all in one spot does make it convenient though parking in the back is quite small and can imagine it could fill up during peak hours but had no idea that this location had a drive through pick up which is quite bougie and convenient lol! Love the vibe as I walked in to the take out section is nice and spacious the staff here is nice as the line started to form they quickly asked for additional check out so that I didn't have to wait long to put in my order. Lots to choose from even special are always offered in all locations the simple fried chicken is the classic favorite besides their simian which they do separate the soup for you if you choose but don't forget to put in your phone number for your rewards as they didn't ask as I rushed to order and forgot myself but got my order in a timely manner. Thank you!

This was our first stop to eat at when we landed in Honolulu because it's nostalgic and it never disappoints when it comes to mixed plate lunches. This location has both the outside area where you can walk up to order your food at the window for take out with limited tables , but around the corner of the building is the indoor restaurant that is spacious with plenty of seating and offers more menu options. We ended up dining outside as we were there to eat and head over to the hotel right after. The Zip Pac Deluxe is one of our go-tos because it has a little bit of everything. We also got the the Chicken Trio and Chicken Katsu. My favorite was the crispy fried chicken, so Ono! We will always be a fan of Zippy's because their food is always consistent, affordable, and portions are generous!

Of course when she is back to visit every year, she still request to stop at Rainbow! Her favorites is the breakfast plates, mixed plate especially BBQ beef and boneless chicken with gravy & for me I LOVE the boneless chicken, gravy all over but I need mines on the side along with the mac salad and a slushie float. I used to work at the district office and we were housed at Hawaii School for Deaf & Blind, so close to Rainbow, when I would visit once a month, a treat to myself, such comfort food! I sure miss those Rainbow Drive-In days with my daughter and for my lunch break! Lets talk about the breakfast fried rice special, lately I've been stopping here every weekend to pick up a plate of fried rice ( available til sold out) & from experience-they do sell out, the fried rice plate is only $9.95. This is the best fried rice ever, my opinion and always enough for me and hubby! The fried rice comes Portuguese sausage, chopped veggies ( celery & onions) and flavored nicely with choice of 2 eggs that covers the rice completely. I always get soft scrambled. I love the finishing touches of the green onions. yums! The rice is perfect hits every time & rice is not watery. Chef's kiss to the staff who made this fried rice. The line and parking lot can get crazy but the staff works hard to get the line moving fast, * there's a separate window for phone and on-line orders. I am so glad I live close by to this Gem. My go to for breakfast and plate lunches!! I think it is time for a boneless chicken plate lunch fix. I like that some of the old specials are now permanently on the menu (even though they still sell out). But the quality needs to remain. I always order a mix plate and egg salad sandwich. Even if I order 10 plates, those 2 items will always be in my order. So I can confidently say that I'm sad that they are not the same as before. My recent mix plate (with gravy for nearly $17) had just one tiny fish and the chicken was pink inside! Also needs little more gravy. The egg salad sandwich (for nearly $7) had dry and thick bread. I admit, most times the bread is dry and I always question why I keep ordering it. I always wonder if I'm the only one to order since it seems like the bread dries out before being used. But now it seems like the bread is homemade and handcut (different thickness). On the plus side, the egg salad was tastier than I remember! We also ordered tater tots and chili, which were both great! Did the parking stalls get more narrow? Just kidding, I know they were always rather small.

Our server, Jason, greeted us with a warm smile and took our drink and food orders. We got a few items that we don't usually see at Hawaiian restaurants back home. Hawaiian Moco: opted for the lau lau as suggested with lomi salmon and macaroni salad. For $24.99, it was huge, succulent, flavorful and worth the price point! Smoked Moco: the Kiawe-smoked meat was tender, sautéed with bell peppers and onions and topped with a yummy smoked aioli and local egg. The mini for $16.99 was the perfect portion for me. Fish Tacos: the fish was fresh, cooked perfectly on taro tortillas with chili aioli, avocado mousse, shredded lettuce and lomi salmon. The fries were thick and crispy too. Squid Lū'au Combo: with lomi salmon and poi, sweet potato and haupia (a coconut dessert) the squid was cooked in a starchy broth. It was like nothing I've had before. Come hungry, bring friends, and prepare to take home leftovers! The Details: Another excellent dinner at Side Street Inn's original location near Ala Moana! If you're looking for authentic local-style Hawaiian comfort food, this place is an absolute gem! Forget fancy white tablecloths and elaborate presentations. This is where local families and groups of friends gather around tables overflowing with delicious food, share stories, laugh, and enjoy each other's company. That's precisely what makes it special! My wife and I stopped in tonight knowing full well we'd be hopelessly outnumbered by the sheer quantity of food we'd order. But that was intentional! We love their food, and the leftovers reheat beautifully. Dinner tonight, lunch tomorrow! What's not to love? Tonight's lineup included three fantastic dishes: 1. Hawaiian Pan-Fried Pork Chops: A mountain of beautifully seasoned, golden-brown pork chops, fried to perfection and piled high on a platter. Old-school local comfort food at its finest! 2. Sizzling Boneless Kalbi Short Ribs: Tender, flavorful Korean-style marinated short ribs arriving on a sizzling cast-iron platter with kimchi. The aroma alone makes your mouth water! Absolutely delicious! 3. Lup Cheong Fried Rice: Oh, my goodness! Their signature fried rice is already fantastic, but adding sweet and savory Chinese sausage takes it to another level! Loaded with char siu, Portuguese sausage, bacon, vegetables, and lup cheong, this enormous platter is practically a meal unto itself. And when I say enormous, I mean ENORMOUS! As wonderful as the food was, I especially want to recognize our server, Celeste What an absolute delight! We learned she's also a high school teacher, and her personality was every bit as memorable as our meal. Vibrant, energetic, full of spunk, and blessed with a terrific sense of humor, she kept us laughing throughout dinner. We got along famously! And I made her groan more than once as she endured my dad jokes...! Celeste checked on us frequently without being intrusive, making sure we had everything we needed. Drinks, napkins, dipping sauces, you name it! That kind of attentive, personable service turns a great dinner into a memorable evening. Celeste, thank you for taking such wonderful care of us! You were spectacular! One thing worth emphasizing is that Side Street Inn is best enjoyed family-style. Look around and you'll see large families and groups of friends sharing some of Oahu's finest local cuisine. My advice? Bring a group, order several dishes, put everything in the middle of the table, and dig in! If you're dining as a couple like we did, embrace the inevitable leftovers. Trust me, you won't regret it! Side Street Inn remains one of our favorite places to eat on Oahu. Outstanding local food, enormous portions, wonderful people, and an atmosphere that captures the spirit of gathering around a table with family and friends. We'll absolutely be back!
