Parking was a bit challenging and the lot was full and they charge for parking. Service was quick, casual, just good energy and fast turnaround. I ordered my tried and true Miss Shortcake with their famous cake donut with cream cheese icing and fresh cut strawberries. The donut is so indulgent and was served warm with the most delectable flavor combinations. Tried the Son of a Peach with cream cheese icing, spiced peach filling, cake mix topping, cinnamon and sugar with honey butter. This one was a bit too overindulgent and sweet for my liking but was definitely worth a try. Portions are huge and can be shared as the donut is not as good warmed over. Plus the pancake texture was great - crispy, fluffy and full of volume Orange blossom cortado was wild - I'm not a coffee person but this was done right. They use their in house orange syrup (probably orange peel and sugar like oleo saccharum). I got one to go too Chai was okay - they could balance out the earthy and spicy tones better The chilaquiles were absolutely delicious too - crispy enough to crunch in my mouth and yet soft enough from the salsa rojas (didn't get protein here). The poblano cheddar biscuits was the right amount of dry with flavor dust and moist on the inside. Don't even get me started on the homemade butter and jalapeno jam - I ate that up like there is no tomorrow Would get this and pancakes and orange cortada and poblano cheddar biscuits again. 10/10 coming back. Sammie's has been hyped up on social media for a long time and I gotta say it's still underrated! I will gladly have Sammie's take the Pepsi challenge against red sauce joints in NYC/NJ etc. In fact, I've told friends and family that I am going to take them to Sammie's when they visit from there. We just had such a fantastic experience - everything..the vibe..the red light fixtures and the color of the booths and the floor..the service - our server was great..loved their outfits..really had an old school little italy feel to it. The food was much better than I even anticipated - as a guy who grew up on NJ diner mozzarella sticks, I have a high bar for them and these were magnificent. And seriously...taking the "everything's bigger in Texas" slogan and applying them to mozzarella sticks?! top 10 achievements of the decade. The chicken parm was perfect - well seasoned, proper amount of crisp..the basil on top...the perfect browning of the cheese. Also the lasanga was excellent..and best part - the leftovers..took it home and the next two days put them in a small cast iron and re-heated them..and the magic was right there in my hill country kitchen! Lastly and certainly not least - the cannoli...just look at the photo below.. I'll say, yes, the place is pricey but you can really easily split these entrees and then it becomes cheaper than a jersey strip center Italian joint. Honestly, it's the kind of meal I could see myself ordering every week. My partner went with the Lost Recipe, which looked just as delicious. You can never really go wrong with fried chicken, and this version certainly didn't disappoint. The service was equally impressive. Our server was friendly, attentive and checked in regularly throughout the meal. She even brought us a complimentary crab pastry to try, which was a thoughtful touch and much appreciated. One thing to note this place gets busy, especially during lunch so plan accordingly. That said, the food and service are well worth it and the menu is reasonably priced. this place seems to be a hip and popular spot in downtown austin. across the river side…read more it was pretty packed with music in the background. just have a hip and young vibe spot for date night or gatherings of young crowd. i mean 20-30 something young not high school kids young.... anyways, i actually didn't know i order the thai me down app.. i thought i was getting some sort of chicken karage. instead, its chicken taco.. pretty good and 10 bucks is reasonable. alot of meat. meal by itself really. the khao soi for some reason gave me heartburn. perhaps the soup is just too flavorful. it was thick curry broth. there was a big piece of chicken thigh. i wish there was more egg noodle and less chicken.. i want more noodle less meat. or perhaps meat is cut up into smaller pieces to eat. and add a couple qual eggs.. anyways, i end up eating just too much chicken... the initial app had a huge piece of chicken. just bad ordering on my part. total was 40 + 7 tip. had a beer as well for $6 and rice was $3 ate the rice with the chicken and soup as i finish the noodle pretty quickly like a couple slurps. khao soi was 18 bucks.. yupe, 50 bucks total... jeez -1 star i came for the khao soi and it was just not enough noodles. i think also quite expensive.. i think this is premium for being more of a hip restaurant and location. i would love to find a street hawker selling it like on khaosan for 3 bucks... i should mention, really really friend staff and service. +1 star anyways, if you miss the khao soi in bkk, this is probably the high end version....
