This is my favorite restaurant in Montclair. The food is very good. Food is flavorful and service is attentive. There are some new servers because it is a new restaurant so service may not be as polished as at other places but the intent and care makes up for any small hic-ups. It's a bit endearing to me. We are working our way down the menu and have not been disappointed in any dish yet. The shishes are excellent. The keftah is excellent and the chocolate soufflé is worth a trip. Unlike most places in Montclair they have alcohol. They appear to be an outlet for a single vineyard which is likely a work around for the screwed up liquor laws in NJ. We are new residents in Montclair and heard about all the great restaurants here. Frankly, we are not impressed with what the locals think is "great". Zeugma is the exception to the rule. We consider it to be in the top 3 in Montclair in terms of food, service and price. We now eat here almost weekly. read more

Zeugma is another gem that is added to this beautiful neighborhood in Montclair. It's small boutique setting with a trendy Mediterranean menu always aims to please it's guests. The items on the menu are very creative and unique. The executive chef put a twist on old classic dishes such as the babaganush(avocado babaganush) and muhammara(pumpkin muhammara) to give the classic dishes new bold flavors. Their cold appetizers are on point and exceptional, the "avoganush", hummus and spinach tarator is a must try. The hot apps were also quiet good which were the grilled octopus that was super soft and the crunchy boreks which were to die for. Main courses are plenty to share, the portions are definitely not skimpy at all. The pistachio burger is always a must try, the dish that stood out the most was their char broiled wild salmon, it was really soft and delicious. The desserts were OK, chocolate soufflé and their signature strawberry napoleon creation was great. Our server Jess was super friendly and very attentive. Just some quick notes, they do not have any Turkish tea here which wasn't a major deal breaker but something we would've loved to see on their hot beverages menu, and also FYI Zeugma only serves wine, however they do have a BYOB policy for people that like to drink their own choice of liquor or wine. The prices on their menu were fairly reasonable for a beautiful upscale restaurant like this, it's always great to find a solid place that doesn't break the bank. There are also plenty of street parking available out front. If you're ever hungry down in Montclair, definitely try Zeugma. read more

Always so delicious. I have tried a bunch of different dips and a couple different entrees, the salmon is definitely my favorite. Last time I went they brought out a warm chocolate brownie for my birthday, it was honestly one of the better desserts I have ever had. read more

I was initially hesitant because the menu looked pretty simple and limited (thus the 4/5 stars), and my boyfriend was craving a lamb gyro. But the place had a decent amount of people so we decide to try it out . We went for late lunch, and ordered grilled octopus with the truffle fries, and the burger. The octopus was cooked perfectly, very tender and went well with the pasty seasoning it came with. The burger was also great- a perfect medium rare, but my most favorite part of our meal was the amazing truffle fries! It had the best umami flavor that lingered a while. We also paired our meal with their robust, full bodied syrah. Overall, this was a great filling meal and we would definitely visit Zeugma again! read more

We had lunch on Monday. The food was outstanding. This is by far the best Middle Eastern restaurant in the area. We shared a chicken sandwich, hummus, pumpkin and walnuts and incredible halloumi cheese wrapped in grape leaves. Wow! We were also able to sit outside with a bottle of wine, which we liked very much. Needed a brunch restaurant in Montclair for my husband's 80th birthday party, and was hoping for a good choice. Well we got the best choice possible. I chose Zeugma because the reviews were so great and the menu looked so delicious -- even the decor and location were our kind of place -- so I booked in our party and hoped for the best. Well we got better than the best, we got perfection. We expected 18 and ended up 16 folks, and after sharing the mezzes, incredible fresh salad that literally made me drool it looked so wonderful (and was as good as it looked), and Lavash bread, we ordered main dishes, individually. I think we probably tried about 13 different dishes among us, since some of us copycatted our neighbor in our selections. Some of us had breakfast, some had lunch, our vegan and vegetarian guests were delighted with their choices, and everyone had fantastic things to say about their chosen dishes and the shared appetizers. Each main dish came with a different bread appropriately complementing the dish. The restaurant was kind enough to chill and serve our champagne for a toast, and to keep our ice cream cake in the freezer until it was time to light a gajillion candles and carry it in to everyone's applause. The staff were outstanding, the place was beautiful, comfortable, airy, and the perfect setting for our crowd. Beautiful and relaxed. The guest who lives in Montclair told me the restaurant was close enough to her home that she could come by any time she wants to take home the specialties. She is really the lucky one. We live near Stony Brook, Long Island, our guests came from Capitola and Los Angeles, California, Phoenix, Arizona, Denville and Montclair, New Jersey, Edinburg, Texas, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, and White Plains, New York, and everyone agreed this restaurant was worth coming out of the way for. New place so a few kinks to work out in the service ( such as bringing the main dish without clearing our appetizer plates so that we had to clear them ourselves) but one must try the Halloumi appetizer. Just discovered Zeugma and we LOVED it! The food is fabulous. The acoustics could be better, it's a little noisy on a Saturday night but the food was worth it. We were just there and we can't wait to go back! The only reason why I didn't give it 5 stars is because our server was a little not with it. I asked for ice 3 times and my husband asked her for water twice. Thank God for the great bus boy and girl because we ended up asking them and they brought the ice, an ice bucket and the water right away. Then my husband asked her for a coke and she made a mistake and brought him another Pog (he had one already), one of their virgin juices which is very good but that's not what he wanted. It's the go to Greek place in Montclair because it's there in a great location but I've had so much better. This restaurant does not live up to its reputation. Go pick another cuisine and eat elsewhere. So much better choices in this lovely neighborhood. The grilled octopus good but not cooked thoroughly. Grilled sea bass good but portion small. I drove from Bergen County with the expectation of finding and tasting something new and good but was sorely disappointed. I ordered the octopus appetizer and it was so hard and chewy that I needed a steak knife to cut it. I ordered the babaganoush appetizer mixed with avocado- my take is, if its not broken then don't change it. The waitress was friendly and prompt. The decor at best is confusing and too busy. There are other mediterranean restaurants that have a wider and tasty selection of food and are true to the cuisine. Skip this place and you will save money, gas and the disappointment. read more

It was opening night at this convenient neighborhood restaurant! Although it was opening night, I do wish they were more accommodating. When we arrived, our waitress immediately opened our wine and got us glasses (much appreciated!). After that she had asked us if we were ready to order. Let me remind you- we had just gotten there! Maybe 5 minutes in. Hadn't even looked at the menu. Thought that was weird. After a few minutes went by- she came back again...and again. Although attentive, she could have laid off a bit. After ordering, our waitress asked if we wanted pita for the table. We happily said yes! However we never did see that pita. :( The food was DELICIOUS. I got the octopus as my appetizer and the salmon as my main course. Both were cooked perfectly and very tasty. The guest I was with got the artichoke salad and the lamp chops as their main course. I do believe this restaurant needs to learn how to time the food properly as our main dishes came out minutes after our appetizers which was another weird thing. The ambiance of the restaurant is gorgeous- you feel like you are in Santorini, Greece! With the beautfiul paintings and lighting...excellent! The food was great- but we expected more on the opening night of this restaurant. We never heard from a manager asking us how we were enjoying ourselves. Came here last Saturday. My bf and I love Mediterranean food so we had to try it. We got the avogannoush which was really good and the beet appetizer. Also good! I am just disappointed in my main entree. I was between two entrees and ended up with the shrimp casserole. There was no cheese listed in the description of this dish and it came SMOTHERED in it. I was thrown off a bit. I like cheese, but in my opinion, this was a little too much cheese.
