What an Amazing find!!! Talk about being in the right place at the right time. I was at an event across the street at Lackawanna Station and we were looking for a place nearby to eat and decided on Greek Taverna. Who knew I was going to experience some of the best Greek food and Sangria of my life! First off... there is a parking lot, so don't worry about parking. Secondly the service was phenomenal. And... they give you these soft pita slices drizzled with warm olive oil and seasoning, that they keep refilling throughout your dining experience. The restaurant itself has cozy vibes, and I believe they have some kind of outdoor seating, but we went on a rainy Thursday night so don't quote me on that one. Now let's get into the sangria... we got a 1/2 pitcher of their white peach mango sangria... it was way bigger than we expected and hands down the best sangria I EVER had. Finally the main star... the food. We were starving and it was already 8pm so we skipped the appetizers and went straight to the entree's. I order from the small plates section and it was not small. I had the grilled chicken with the most delicious butter rice and salad. My friend ordered their beef & lamb gyro wrapped in a pita with their hand cut fries. We were blown away. I had no idea this unsuspecting restaurant would pack such a punch. My chicken was so juicy. The kind of juicy that you try to make yourself and it never happens. And my friends gyro was comparable to the one she had in Greece. The prices are right and the food and service are even better. Go check them out, thank me later. read more

Given the spotty reviews lately, went in with lowered expectations. Still the same large dining area, parking lot etc. We wanted seafood, and that's what we got. Seafood appetizer for 2 was not cheap, but they didn't skimp. Good portions of octopus squid shrimp grilled well in a nice sauce. Whole Bronzino was the ultimate test. They did fine. It was a big fish, enough for us to share. Grilled well, moist and with tasty sauce which didn't overwhelm. Lemon potato was a hit. Next time I would go for Greek salad instead of house. All in all, not a bad meal for about 83 for two. BYOB was a good thing for us. read more

Went here last night with another couple before seeing a show at The Welmont. Great location because you can park your car at restaurant and walk to theater. This place is a BYOB. We started out by sharing a Greek salad. Well prepared and a small is enough for 2 to split. For mains our friend had the shrimp kabobs and the tiger prawns. My buddy said the tiger prawns were very good , but the shrimp kabobs were just ok. My wife had the chicken kabobs and enjoyed them and I had the beef and lamb gyro, also good. The food is not outstanding, but it's a solid 4. Service was excellent and the space is very nice with some outside seating. read more

Came on a weekend day with a big group of 10 with a reservation. Service was friendly and timely. Big menu with lots of options for all different palates. 1. Zucchini chips - Delicious, fried, wish it was a little less salty. Came with tzatziki. 2. Prawns - Amazing. 3 huge prawns that filled me up and my plate was clean by the end. 3. Baklava - Average, sweet, good. Overall a good place to try at least once, especially if you're craving Greek. I will come again. read more

Very good! Staff was welcoming and food was great. We loved the indoor / outdoor options and parking. They are also very puppy friendly! I totally forgot to grab food photos but the pita and hummas was good! I liked my chicken, salad and potatoes dinner. Even had leftovers. So easy to get to for us, would absolutely recommend and can't wait to stop back in! read more

Greeted immediately when we entered. Went during lunch wasn't very crowded, food was good with attentive service. We started with calamari flash fried, it was cooked well. They serve with sauce which was cold. Overall, I would return again. read more

Had a fantastic experience at Greek Taverna. The zucchini chips were amazing and when I mistakably tried to order a gyro that's only on the lunch menu, the waitress was so helpful and offered to have the dinner grilled chicken wrapped into a gyro. The restaurant is beautiful and the service was outstanding as well. We will be back! read more

This place is the absolute best! Of ALL the greek restaurants around, this one is the closest thing to being in Greece. Everything is cooked so well, tastes so delicious and the service is excellent. I eat here weekly because It has healthy options and I am obsessed with the Arugula & Beets Salad! Not enough people know about this place, it is the best! read more

Ordered through Uber Eats so I could get ready and eat before going out. Ordering was easy, the food came with time to spare. I had the 1 stick souvlaki (chicken) with the housemade chipotle sauce. I requested no onions. I enjoyed my meal despite there being some onions incorporated in the salad. They were big enough to pick out. I'd definitely order from Greek Taverna again. Went for a dinner for my best friend who just retired hosted by his wife It started off a little ruff but they made up for it in a good way She had reserved the back table for the 6 of us but when she got there they had given away the table and she was mad and let them know. Upon hearing this the chef sent over some free appetizers for the table along with the apps we ordered The staff was very nice and attentive always filling up our water glass I orders the fish of the day Bronzino and it was cooked perfectly Everyone seemed to like the food and they did not rush us out after So I willl be back read more

OK. I've had better Greek food for sure, but the old man was nice. I did love their homemade fries the cut was different and seasoned perfectly the only issue was serving them to me soggy. It was either water on my plate that wasn't dried or water spilled on my plate. So I couldn't eat them all. The gyro was not good but I finished it all. read more

Recently my family and I dined at Greek Taverna a restaurant located at 292 Bloomfield Ave in Montclair NJ. I had no complaints of the food and service which were fine. However I did have a problem. When we were seated and the server was taking our drink orders, I stated I just wanted water. I was told by the server that they could not serve water due to a problem with the filtering system and water was unavailable for a customer to consume. However if I wanted to drink water I would have to pay $7.50 per bottle. If water could not be consumed by a customer due to a potential hazard, then how can they operate a restaurant for public dining with a questionable water supply? The server and Manager was unable to answer my question. In my opinion it was just a way in order for a person to drink normal water was to pay $7.50 a bottle. This is a rip off and not the correct way to treat a customer. The water comes out of the same system for human consummation or used to prepare food. If the restaurant uses water to prepare food for customers then the water should be good enough to drink me cannot neve think about returning to Greek Taverna read more

A cute spot for authentic Greek dishes and one of the few Montclair restaurants with parking! We shared three appetizers - the Pikilia (pita bread with three dips), Kalamarakia Tiganita (fried calamari), and Grilled Haloumi. The Haloumi was delicious! I got the Small Plate Mousaka as my entree - but it is a large serving! This was my first time having Mousaka and it was less gamier than I thought it would be. read more

Came with my lil bro and his wife as they were visiting the NE :D There is a free parking lot next to the building, so yay. It's so hard to find free parking in Monclair downtown area, hehehe We were here on Monday MLK day. Between lunch and dinner so we had the place to ourselves. The bread they served was delicious! I had 1 piece, and when I reached for another, it was all gone... We were given 8 pieces for 4 people, and it should have been 2 pieces each! They have their own parking lot on the side of the building. I cheated on my diet for my friends birthday so you wouldn't have to. If your vegan you can have the falafel, fries and hummus. I ordered a vegetable Mousaka but I'm pretty sure they put some cheese in there. I wasn't too impressed with the hummus. Everybody I was with really enjoyed the food. They got calamari, fish, and some melted cheese appetizer. When we split the bill it was really expensive, but I think we had a few bottles of wine. The place had decorative chickens all over the place. I tried to find info in the connections between Greece & chicken but couldn't find anything, so if you go you might want to ask them. Came with husband and friends at last minute, this place genuinely exceeded all of our expectations! Our server Anna was very kind and attentive to us, while highly knowledgeable about the menu. I didn't like the food at all. The chicken was lacking flavor. It's kind of dry and didn't have the char flavor from the grill. The shawarma also was lacking flavor. I'm not sure what meat or filler they added but it didn't taste good to me. The rice is just plain rice. I've had better Greek food. read more

Greek Taverna is pretty solid in my book. I usually order takeout via Uber eats or on occasion I'll order and pick it up myself. But today I had some free time during lunch and decided to stop by and check out the dining experience here. Upon entering I was greeted by a lovely and attentive lady and was quickly seated and handed a menu. She asked me if I wanted anything to drink and told me to take my time looking over the menu. She returned quickly with my drink and proceeded to take my order. So today I wasn't in the mood for something light, I need a hardy meal today. So I ordered Lamb Souvlaki Wrap with Greek fries an extra tzatziki sauce. I always need extra tzatziki sauce! Anyway, the food didn't take very long to come out. Which was wonderful for me because I was starving. So about the lamp wrap, what can I say it was a pretty solid Lamp Gyro. All the ingredients were fresh. The tzatziki sauce tasted wonderful as always and the lamb was cooked to perfection! There isn't really much to say about this place. It truly is just your every day normal Greek restaurant. There's nothing fancy about this place. There's no bar so they don't serve alcohol, but it is a BYOB. So don't forget to bring your favorite bottle wine when your dining here! All and all I might just be popping back in here from time to time with a bottle of wine to enjoy some dinner and the wonderful hospitality. read more

I lived on an island for over a decade, so I am a bit skeptical to order fish when we go out because I'm always comparing freshness and flavor to the Mediterranean. Since a friend of ours highly recommended for us to get the Branzino, we did. I was mind blown. You cannot compare the quality, freshness and taste to anywhere else. Their potatoes melted in your mouth, and along with everything else was so flavorful and amazingly delicious. The service was on point and ambience reminded me of the taverna's in Cyprus & Greece. Dined here years ago. Can't remember why I put them on pause. It was a nice Monday evening that I decided to dine in. Rustic decor, I sat in the middle of the dining room to take it all in. I was hungry. Shrimp saganaki , Horiatiki salad, Greek fries, chicken kabob dinner. As the server approached the table with the shrimp saganaki, he stopped. Just like that it was a full flame presentation. All of the patrons wowed in unison. The Horiatiki salad had chopped lettuce and capers. Medallion greek fries, we're just fried potatoes. No lemon juice or feta. I suggest you request they fry them crispy so you can dip them in the best taztiki I've ever had. Chicken kabob perfectly marinated and right amount of char. I returned twice for takeout both times For the salad. One with chicken added, I didn't enjoy the sliced chicken, it lacked seasoning. Second visit, the chicken kabob perfectly cooked and seasoned. We were there this Saturday and the atmosphere was so quaint and lovely. The waiter was so accommodating. The owner Nick was so nice. We had ordered the appetizer for 2 which was great and yummy and very filling. We each ordered an entree gyro platter which my husband loved and I ordered a chicken gyro. We were both full from the appetizers that we ended up taking home the entrees. We of course had greek coffee and shared a dessert I wish I could remember it but it was so yummy and delish! I'm obsessed with this place. It's always a good experience and has never disappointed us. Had a reservation tonight on a busy Saturday night dinner rush and watched the kitchen team and floor staff/ etc work like finely oiled machines. Halloumi is fantastic, perfect herbs and flavor. The beet salad was nice and hummus was excellent. The complimentary pita is always a nice addition. Great lamb souvlaki, generous portion and great service. We're always happy here and come back again and again. Also of note: the owner personally cared for us tonight and gave us a free taste of some mouth watering pistachio baklava! read more

We had a very large private party here and the food was absolutely delicious. The steak was a perfect medium rare, the lamb was tender even though it was medium, rice was delicious and not dry, calamari was perfectly crispy and fresh, the branzino was flaky and juicy, and the dips were flavorful. Would I come back here for dinner? Yes, absolutely. Would I have another large private party? Probably not because there was much less privacy than expected and they are not well equipped to host approx. 50 people. read more

Stopped in for an early dinner and had no problem getting a table. We really enjoyed the halloumi and falafel appetizers. We ordered a few different skewers that were tasty too! Instead, we were told upon arrival that parties of six could not order from the regular menu and would receive a special chef's tasting menu. We were also informed that gratuity was automatically included. The service got off to a poor start. When I requested still water, the server responded, "So, tap for you," later explaining that the tap water was filtered. Two guests received their drinks promptly, while the rest of us waited at least 15 minutes--before the first dish even arrived. The food was served family-style, but the portions and presentation made little sense for a table of six. Most dishes came on only two plates, with one small portion intended for three people to share. We received items such as a small bun with sauce, a modest salad, a piece of smoked trout, and buttered boiled potatoes--the best dish of the meal, although hardly an impressive accomplishment. Most absurdly, two chicken legs were served for three people to share. How exactly were three guests expected to divide two chicken legs? A tasting menu for six should be properly portioned, not presented as a series of awkward, undersized servings. There was also confusion about the menu. When one guest pointed out that two listed items on our special menu had not been served, the server consulted the chef and returned to say that we had received everything we were supposed to receive. If items had been removed from our menu, we should have been told at the beginning of the meal--or the menu should have been corrected. Following this we were provided A dessert consisting of an extremely bitter artichoke-based liqueur and one small scoop of mint chocolate chip ice cream for every three guests to share described as "a gesture" based on the menu confusion. The presentation for a table of six was virtually nonexistent. Dishes were simply placed on the table, and we sometimes had to ask what we had been served. The service was mediocre at best, the portions were poorly planned, and the overall experience felt disorganized. At $130 per person--$780 total, including the automatic gratuity--the meal was nowhere near the quality or value expected at that price. Needless to say, I will not return.

I don't get some of the bad reviews. This place was great. It has a parking lot, which in Montclair is huge. If its full at 8:00, well that's how it goes. Being an ex restaurant server, I know that sometimes you have to wait, even if you have a reservation. It happens. I waited 10 min for a table when I had an 8:30 reservation and thought that was perfectly fine. The food is authentic and amazing, and anyone on here who compares it to diner food should never be allowed to review a restaurant again. The whole grilled fish is awesome, and if you don't like bones in your fish, don't order it. No one will ever get all of them out. And its a whole fish. If you order a 2-3 lb. fish on a Fri or Sat, be prepared to wait, but it is so worth it. The service is impeccable. Tho, again here I may biased, as I used to serve. I understand when they're busy that they're only human. The atmosphere is great, but the place does get terribly loud. That's the only reason why I didn't give them 5 stars. We go there once a week (my wife is Greek) and order delivery from them once a week. Management is wonderful, continually making sure you're having a good time...we really feel like family. We even had our daughter's Christening party there, in their small private room. It was an amazing day, and they definitely helped with that. We've even had them cater 3 of our parties at home. Once, I picked up the trays and they were ready at the appropriate time. The second time they delivered them for us, and the third time not only did they deliver the trays, but I was able to hire one of their servers for the night to help set up, serve, explain to our guests what the dishes were, and clean up. So this is my second review of the place, and I have to say my impression stays the same. THis place is awesome! I read somewhere that the portions are small. That guy must be 7 feet tall and 400 pounds, because their portions are HUGE! And as far as being over priced, they are right in range of any other upscale restaurant in town. $180 for 6 people is nothing. If you can't afford to go out to eat, don't. People bash this place, I think, because they have no concept of Greek food. This place is more authentic than the other 2 Greek establishments in the area and the staff is way more accomodating. This time around We split a Mousaka, which is like a Greek Sheppard's Pie, a To Piato (mixed grill) that was cooked perfectly, a greek salad, and the prawns. You gotta try the prawns. We ordered takeout from Greek Taverna for a girls' night in, and overall, the experience was mixed. One highlight was the spicy feta dip- if you're a feta fan, you'll probably enjoy it. I don't love feta but my friend said it was creamy, flavorful, and paired well with the pita bread. Unfortunately, the chicken platter fell short for us. The chicken was dry and lacked seasoning, though the tzatziki was fresh and tasty. The creamy chicken main was our least favorite-it was bland, under-seasoned (needs salt!), and the chicken quality was questionable, with some tough, unpleasant pieces. On a more positive note, the salmon was well-cooked and flavorful, and it came with a nice herb rice that complemented it. All in all, some hits but mostly misses. Ti kanis?! Greek food has a special place in my heart and I'm always reluctant to try any Greek restaurant for fear that it won't be as good as I'm accustomed. On a recent Sunday I had the hankering and took a risk. How could they mess it up? The answer? They couldn't. From the spanakopita to the octopus to the dolmades to the tzatziki and pita, it was all wonderful! I visited Greek Taverna today and had an amazing experience. The restaurant has a warm and inviting atmosphere, and the food was absolutely delicious. I particularly enjoyed the lamb gyro. But what really made my visit special was the outstanding service provided by the young server. He was friendly, and knowledgeable, and went above and beyond to make sure we had a great experience. His recommendations were spot-on, and he even took the time to share with us his unique Nepali culture. Got our food in a nice timely manner, the manager Leslie, check a few times to see how was our experience. Came in on a whim craving hummus and spanakopita and end up taking a full spread home for dinner with the wife! Couldn't believe the quality, freshness or service I received. I was impressed by the portions, not too big, but ample. Prices were low for the quality and amount of food. I arrived in between lunch and dinner and there was still a good crowd. That was impressive enough, but the speed at which they got my in house order and take out together was impressive knowing it is all cooked a la minute. Greek Taverna is a great place if you want to taste authentic greek food. Service is very quick and friendly even when the place is stuffed, and most importantly the food is absolutely amazing. I recommend the melted saganaki cheese for appetizer, chicken gyro with pita for a main dish and kadaif for dessert. I don't mind some noise, it makes the place feel lively and more friendly. We visited this place again Saturday Dec 22, it was packed, but the service was smooth, people were raving about how exceptional everything was. My girl friend ate almost all her grilled seafood platter and that plate is huge, I have to help her a little bit. On the other hand, I will recommend some Christmas balls hanging from high ceiling. Generous portions, always have room for you w/o a reservation, overall great dining option for Montclair that won't break the bank. Their pita is wonderful and they'll keep bringing you as much as you want. The entrees are huge and very dependable. This review is from our meal on August 30, 2026. While the menu has been changed from time to time, it does not happen frequently. However, there are often a variety of special additions. One item on the menu we have ordered in every visit is the shrimp appetizer, which I mentioned in my original review. It used to be called shrimp arrabbiata. Now it's called garlic shrimp (according to the online menu, but believe it's baked garlic shrimp on the actual menu). By any name it's not to be missed. I believe it used to be 8 shrimps, which at some point was trimmed to 7 shrimps). The size are large to near jumbo, easily more than a single bite, easily U-25, but maybe not quite U-15 sized. The sauce is so good it's worth finishing with the consistently delicious warm rolls being used to soak up every last drop, or spooned out of the bowl like soup. It's spicy, but not overpowering. This is a must order for shrimp lovers. I usually order one of the many house-pastas. My wife is usually ordering one of the fresh fish offerings. The scallops are a hit too, as is the risotto, though I still nix the chorizo, which I'm typically then rewarded with extra crab. The service is very accommodating in every respect, willing to make every reasonable adjustment. Desserts are typically good, but also typical to all Italian eateries. They used to have a must-have mousse concoction that disappeared after a while. That was a mistake, as it was exceptional.

The service was impeccable from the moment we arrived until the second that we left. From a food perspective, our meal initiated with a basket of some of the best rolls I had ever had. They were large, fluffy, and doughy with a hint of crispiness from a light toasting. We then shared the Veal and Beef Meatball, which was gigantic but still managed to have the ideal texture. It was also beautifully seasoned and served in what the chef called his "grandma's plum tomato sauce", which was divine! The sauce was thick and hearty, so when that was paired with pecorino cheese and basil oil, it really made for a fabulous dish. I even cut off a small piece to put inside my roll with a spoonful of sauce - chef's kiss! After that, we enjoyed some of the house-made pasta dishes, tasting each in a family-style format. The Squid Ink Bucatini was tossed with scallops, shrimp, and jumbo lump crab in a seafood tomato sauce. I did not love the briny finish to the sauce or that some of the scallops were chewy. The Tagliatelle with Duck Bolognese, tomatoes, and carrots was good, but I prefer my pomodoro sauce without the addition of a "light cream". Lastly, the special Spaghetti came with lobster, crab, and peas in vodka sauce. That one was definitely my favorite. While I do not love peas, the sauce was rich and flavorful. Across these last two dishes, I thought the pasta was a tad overcooked and could have been more al dente; the bucatini consistency was more inline with my preferences. Overall, I thought the food at Laboratorio Kitchen was above average, but that the service and atmosphere helped elevate the place. I would definitely consider going back to try some of their other dishes.
