THEY ARE CHEAP WITH THEIR SAUCE. I had gotten bolognese spaghetti and added extra sauce for 4 extra dollars. The spaghetti was so dry it came with a butt load of noodles and with a drop of sauce. Then the extra sauce I added didn't even fill the little bowls they provided they were half full. The amount of noodles they give and the amount of sauce doesn't not add up. The plate is heavy because of the noodles. Who wants to eat DRY NOODLES. The sauce tastes good when you can actually taste it. Once you mix up your noddles the sauce is gone. If I had not paid by one get one free I would drive back the 20 min it took and demand a refund and or more sauce for the price they ask for. I'd be EMBARRASSED by the prices they sell their food for because the flavor is not there. Their sauce tasted better as a soup! read more

Wasn't bad. Had buy one get one for the ravioli. I paid extra for the vodka sauce. One had just the right amount of sauce. The other one was pretty dry. Got garlic bread.which was awesome. Wish could have gotten mozzarella cheese that would have nailed it. read more

Came here with a very large group (over 20 people). We made reservations in advance and were seated upon arrival. The severs were very friendly and attentive. We did a buffet style experience and it worked out well. The food was absolutely delicious. From our salads to dessert. Everything was well made and flavorful. The restaurant isn't very big but they were able to accommodate us all. This place is a hidden gem. I definitely will return. read more

1st time ordering from here. Got the chicken parm buy one get one did ask for extra cheese and to charge us, this was an uber eats order. No extra cheese not alot of cheese at all and the garlic bread for $7 it was pretty skimpy. Pasta could have been cooked a few mins longer. This restaurant in Montclair is great for either a big party or even a small party. We booked a buffet style type of dinner for about 23 people and it was amazing. Everyone enjoyed it to the fullest. Yes you heard that right we had a total of 23 people. We made sure to call to book the space and they had us in 2 big tables. We picked the menu before hand which was buffet style and the appetizers were family style. The food was absolutely delicious. For appetizers we had a couple of things 1. Eggplant 2. Bruschetta 3. Calamari and 4. A salad. Then as an entree we had a delicious lemon chicken, salmon, sausage and pasta. Lastly, we had dessert. This restaurant is BYOB so best believe we brought plenty of wine to enjoy with our meal. Our reservation was on a Wednesday at 7:30 and we didn't leave until about 10:30pm. I loved how they didn't rushed us or anything. To book such a big party like this we had to put down a $200 deposit which went towards our bill. At the end we ended up paying less than $40 each. The staff was also very lovely and friendly. I can see us coming back here again if we ever do something again with such a big party. read more

I live in walking distance to palazzo and was hoping to find my next usual spot but unfortunately the food was just okay. I did enjoy my shrimp risotto but the service lacked warmth. My family and I came in for dinner on a random weekday and although the restaurant was empty, we were asked if we made a reservation. The server seems annoyed while seating us or maybe he was just serious. I don't know but I'm willing to give it one more shot. Also a little pricy for the portions in my opinion. read more

The food was tasty, although the pasta was not al dente, which I thought strange for a restaurant that purports to specialize in "home-made" pasta. The service was completely inept. We were the table that time forgot -- people rushed around us in a blur of activity, but completely ignored our table. We had to ask for menus, and then water, and then to place our order, and then to get refills of water. When the food came (finally), 3 of the 4 entrees were served to the wrong people, and the fourth was totally wrong and had to be sent back. It took far longer than it should have to replace the 4th meal, as our 4th table member sat and watched us eat. I realize they had take-outs to cook, but an order correction should go to the head of the queue. We had to ask for the focaccia that was supposed to be "included with every entree". We had to ask for dessert menus. And finally, we had to ask for a check, which was not comped in the slightest, and no apology was offered; I don't think they thought they did anything wrong. Once again, the food isn't bad. If you order take-out, you may be happy. If you dine in, be prepared to wait a long time, and keep reminding the wait staff that you are there. read more

In Jersey for work from PHX and a friend recommended. I am so happy I drove out to Montclair to enjoy such a wonderful meal and dining experience at Palazzo. The Calamari was divine, the Caprese was refreshing and perfection, the Carbonara transported me back to Italy circa 2007. To cap off the meal I had to try their special Gelato. Everything was top notch, fresh and simply delicious. Appreciate the great service from all the staff for a quiet and lovely evening of dining. read more

Had dinner here Sunday Sept 11,2022 for 1st time and last time. I am certain that this is not the same owners as the former Palzaao on South Fullerton. My napkin was used and had food stuck to it. My partners napkin had tears in it. Bathroom was not clean. I ordered pasta with pesto.I was served a very creamy pesto sauce which had very little basil in it. My partner ordered past Arabiaita.Could have had a lot more spice to it Took 45 minutes before food was served. Our waiter was very nice.Only positive point read more

One of our favorite spots to eat, never disappoints. Service is always excellent, love the cozy atmosphere including live piano music and most importantly, the food is great. Recent visit, we started with a lobster and shrimp bisque, delicious and loaded with lobster and shrimp. My wife had one of the specials, a Seafood Grill which was also delicious. I had the NY Strip Steak special which was amazing, cooked perfectly, melted in your mouth and had a great grilled flavor. This place is simply a great Italian restaurant. read more

I didn't think I would have to write a negative review of this restaurant, but here we are . This is the first time we went to their new location on Walnut Street, off the beaten path. The restaurant is much smaller than the other location. This one is more casual and airy but, eh, cute, but not great. They hand you the paper menu with about 20 items on the menu, period. Then they tell you that you can order items that were on their previous menu before they moved.. Then why don't they just present the full menu??? Our server had zero personality and should not be dealing with the public. On my previous review, I had the seafood combo which was superb. They did not have branzino. The fish was salmon. Yuck. I don't eat salmon. The other choice was Tilapia. Nope. Tilapia is not a healthy fish to eat. I wound up ordering chicken veal and shrimp francese. It was just ok. I've had better. The fresh vegetable combination was excellent. I'm very disappointed in the change. The quality, service and choice slid way down. We will not be back. My favorite restaurant was closed yesterday so, as former Palazzo customers, we decided to try them again. We had no reservations and, after waiting about ten minutes for an attendant, we were seated. We noted that no staff member in this establishment wore a mask. We waited another half an hour for a waitress to come to our table. They have no system so people who came in after us were attended to first. It was another hour before we got our food. My main course was a reasonable portion but my friend ordered the risotto and the portion size was disgustingly small, something you would serve to a toddler. Needless to say he went home still feeling hungry. To be honest, the food that we ordered tasted okay but the staff leaves a lot to be desired. They need a good floor manager to keep things organized as service was terrible. It was a great place pre-COVID, but no more. Sad to say we will not return. read more

Appalled at the customer service and how inhumane this restaurant is. My sister who actually likes this restaurant wanted to redeem a Groupon for take out instead of dine in as she is a EXTREME high risk person at this time and wanted me to pick up dinner for the both of us. The owners wife and whatever other staff over there were so rude over the phone and so Ungracious that someone would even want to eat from their restaurant at this time. We thought we would support a small local business and enjoy some dinner together but nooooo they are TOO proud to honor a Groupon for take out instead of their so called strict policy that it's for dine in only. This is a solid restaurant in the Montclair area. Solid Italian food and the menu is always changing so there is always something new to try. I've never been disappointed with a meal from here. It's also BYO which is a major plus. The staff is excellent. Super friendly, knowledgeable, and helpful. However. It is a little more on the pricy and parking is a nightmare, so make sure you arrive early to find a spot. The food definitely outweighs the parking search so don't let that sway you from giving this place a try. read more

i'm beyond disappointed with my experience here my boyfriend walked inside to pick up my order, says my name for the order and is greeted with a clearly irritated "what did you say the name was" and when he repeated himself was told that's not what he said the first time and he'll need to see the order on his phone which would have been no big deal if not for the nasty attitude that accompanied this request. onto the food, first bite i took of my pasta i pulled a hair out of my mouth and almost gagged and my poor boyfriend found a LOOSE STAPLE in his food. how does that even happen?? i'm very upset about this visit and will never be ordering from this establishment again. read more

We have been out of state and had not been back in a while. They did not disappoint, as food and service was outstanding. This has always been a favorite for a quiet, intimate dinner. The filet mignon over spinach is one of the best around! Always done to perfection, served with a divine sauce, this has been our go-to place for this meal, and it has not changed. My husband and I have never been treated so poorly by an establishment before and the incident we experienced was clearly racially motivated. I ordered takeout via Uber Eats and my husband went to Palazzo to pick it up. They refused to give him our meal without "proof" that it was in fact his. I've never heard of anything so ridiculous in my life. We order take out from various restaurants all the time and at a maximum, we're asked to provide a first and last name and phone number. My husband offered them my name and our home address which is reflected on my Uber Eats account. They still refused to give him our meal and stated that he didn't have enough proof. I then called Palazzo to confirm that I placed the order and explained that he was my husband but the person I spoke to was incredibly rude to me and continued to refuse him our meal. He then handed the phone to who I can only assume was the manager. I told him to hand the meal to my husband and he yelled, "not until you tell me who you are!". I expressed to him that I believed they were discriminating against my husband and the man hung up on me. I've never been so horrified before. We never got our meal and I've reported this restaurant to Uber Eats. I believe that Palazzo discriminated against my husband based solely on the color of his skin. It's so disheartening that in a diverse town like Montclair, people like this still exist. read more

There are very few restaurants that I've written three updates for, and have given five stars to each time. Palazzo is one of those. Although we don't go to Palazzo frequently, perhaps twice a year, the staff remembers what we've ordered on previous visits and astonishingly they also seem to know that we'll ask for extra lemon or a side order of a particular sauce. This is not from information stored in some computer database, but like elegant restaurants from bygone era, the head waiter simply knows his customers and treats them like honored guests. I've spoken in my previous reviews about the excellent food and tonight's meal was equally good, but it's the service (especially John the long-time head waiter) that I wanted to give some special recognition to this time. Additionally, the ambiance in the dining room is both comforting and welcoming. After 8pm diners are serenaded by a local musician playing piano or saxophone, which despite the small space, never seems intrusive or too loud. Our meal tonight again included the Grilled Spanish Octopus and the Crispy Long Island Duck, which were excellent as always, but we also tried something new (at least for us) which was one of the night's specials, the Lobster Bisque. Sadly, unlike the Crispy Duck, Lobster Bisque doesn't photograph well, but trust me whatever it may lack in visual appeal, it more than makes up for in taste. It is rich with a velvety texture, but not heavy at all, and filled with lobster meat. Definitely one of the best Lobster Bisques I've had. I'm amazed that Palazzo is not more well known, or more highly praised. It certainly deserves to be. I look forward to going again. read more
