Had a birthday celebration of 11 last night. The food was pretty good. Appetizers seemed smaller than in the past but that is everywhere. Meal was good. My issue was the service. Very slow with the waitress not checking on us, not bringing extra drinks that we ordered and never letting us know that they were behind and our food was going to take more time. I found this out after I found her just standing by the entry area and asked. By the way, the busboy was very helpful, thank goodness since he was the only person I saw often. Of course a 20% tip was added ( not deserved at all but of course I paid it) I paid in cash the amount on the bill. As I am leaving the waitress comes to me and questions the amount I gave her in front of my guests. I show her the receipt and said I paid cash what was on the bill. She starts arguing with me, the manager comes over and tells her to stop and let me leave. She starts talking to him about their computer system. He again tells her to leave me alone and I go. Came here with my bf and we ordered the mussels as our app and truffle mushroom pizza (and added meatballs) as the main dish. My bf thought the mussels weren't fresh, I thought it was just OK. The sauce of the mussels was pretty basic and nothing special about it. The pizza had good flavor but none of the toppings stayed on top of the pizza because the crust was sooo droopy and had no hold. The host sat us down with the warning that they would need the table back within 45 minutes and we said OK. But they never ended up needing the table back because I guess they ended up having enough tables for their other reservations? Seemed a bit unorganized but more time for us I suppose. The table service was really good and our server was really nice and patient with us. Inside the restaurant was pretty spacious. Bathroom was clean. They had these iPads as their menu. Haven't been since last Father's Day. Not sure what happened to the place. Used to be amazing. Focaccia bread was good but hard to mess that up. Calamari with balsamic and hot peppers was missing any amount of balsamic. Very dry. Pizzas overall were fine. The fig and prosciutto is consistently good. Chicken special was ok. Ordered the eggplant parm and pasta was fine but ordered it over spaghetti and received Angel hair. Not a fan of Angel hair. And dinner took easily 30 minutes to come after we finished our appetizers and the wait staff never cleared the table. Also had to ask for silverware after the first course. Place wasn't busy at all and I'm wondering if that is the norm now. If I'm spending 180 dollars for 4 people, the service should be better. read more

I stopped by with a group of 3 on a Friday night and initially were told that there was going to be a little while wait, but they managed to squeeze us in a table though there was a one hour limit. We appreciated them accommodating us, even if it was a quick meal. I'm not sure if our time limit played a rule but we ordered 2 appetizers and 2 pizzas and the appetizers came out within 5 minutes and the pizza soon after we finished the appetizers. The eggplant appetizer was delicious, but the calamari was not very crispy and overall lacking in flavor. The pizzas we got were the Ah Pizz and the Mushroom Pizza, both of those tasted good, especially with the wood-fired cooking of it. The ambience with the brick decor and dim lighting is a cool vibe and definitely a nice place to grab dinner. Staff are friendly. Location is always difficult in Montclair with street paid parking as your main option, so plan ahead. read more

The garlic and cheese flatbread was super delicious and like a classier and tastier version of Domino's cheesy bread. I got the chicken giambotta and it was excellent. Ah' Pizz, capiche! This pizza spot did not disappoint with their coal fire pizza. The flavors from the cheese to the sauce to the burned dough was just the right ratio... would have loved some more fresh basil, but what can you do. The cheesesteak spring roll was a nice starter. It came with a side of zesty sweet and spicy sauce (not sure if it is homemade), and cheese dipping sauce. As for the calamari, it was ehhh. I like to have tentacles with my calamari as I feel that completes the set. Seeing the calamari rings and tentacles makes me believe that it is real calamari I am eating. These calamari were large rings, but were not rubbery... but in the back of my mind, felt sketch. They have a cool interactive digital menu with pictures and a descprition which is nice addition. But, what I would have liked to have seen is condiments on the table... like, extra virgin olive oil and spices. Maybe because it is a small table setting that it would take up much of the space?? To me it's the little things that make a big difference and you shouldn't have to ask for things when dining. The less interaction you have with the waiters the better, but I had to grab someone every now and then for something which on a busy night did not give me a great staff interaction. I have wanted to try Ah' Pizz for a while now; my son has been there and said he loved it. Again, based on previous reviews, I wanted to taste the food without any bias. What started as ordering a simple margherita pie turned into me adding a few more things because of their robust options. You can add anything from truffle oil (a loved and hated Western favorite), eggplant, capers, and your standard pizza toppings to goat cheese, fontina, and Caciocavallo. The list does not end there. Surprisingly this was my first time trying Neopolitan-style pizza. So I went for it, on top of my margherita I opted for arugula, Gorgonzola, and Prosciutto. In hindsight, I should have ordered one classic and another with the extra toppings. I guess my curiosity won. Aside from the pie I also ordered stuffed long hot peppers. After ordering, their system said that it would be ready in 45, but then changed to an hour. The pizza came cold to the touch. I do not blame Ah' Pizz or the driver. The pizza was done fast but needed a driver. These things are out of my control, so no issue there. Gratefully, they have instructions on how to rewarm the pizza on the website. I followed it and it was like taking a fresh pizza out of the oven. Pizza was 7/10: The ingredients tasted great but would have liked a better sauce. There is a signature droop/flop with Neopolitan pizza. It's not my favorite but that does affect my score. Stuffed Long Hots was 6/10: These tasted good, but I was getting warmed up vibes. It did not taste very "fresh". The sausage was good, but the mozzarella could have been better. Overall it was cool to give this place a go. First time visit . The restaurant has a home decor feeling . So I went with a friend and we ordered apps. We got eggplant rotini,fried calamari, and garlic oil, shrimp. The eggplant was a 3/10 , calamari 8/10 and the shrimp was a 10/10 . The eggplant had this odd taste and couldn't wrap around what the issue was . The calamari was good just wish it had a bit more flavor . Now the shrimp was delicious! And served with some garlic toast. Nice size shrimp and the cheese on top was the cherry on top . I like the ambiance, and plenty of good parking options, it is also BYOB so thats good for a night out. The food is absolutely lacking though, Calamari Balsamico from the appetizer section: the calamari flavorless same as the "chorizo" which is just flavorless sausage. The four cheese white pie I thankfully added sausage (different than what was on the calamari) as an option because it would've just been a glob of gooey cheese, needs a bit more of a crisp finish or some type of red chili to give it some flavor. Made a reservation online for 7:15, and we ended up getting there at 7:25. The website said that they would hold the table for 15 minutes but the waitstaff was upset that we didn't call them, and that they had given away the table. We told them we'd wait, but even then there were at least five open tables that we could sit at. We did end up sitting down right away and ordered an appetizer and a pizza to split. The caprese had promise, but both the mozzarella and tomatoes were dry and tasteless. The pizza was actually pretty good and reheated well the next day. It also tasted good cold, which is a sign of a good pizza. Overall, I think there are spots for better pizza in Montclair that I would recommend over this place. I came here with friends on a weekend, it is a small casual style place close to Montclairs downtown .We were surprised by how many interesting options of pizza they had. So decided to try it out !We got the fig and goat cheese pie as well as a regular tomato gluten free vegan pie. For starters we had the macaroni and cheese as well as the pesto gnocchi. Went for lunch today. Disappointed with the chicken parm sandwich. It was drowning in cheese, way over fried and cut up in small pieces on soggy bread. My salad was way too overdressed. And the pizza was soggy in the middle. The service was terrible..... not happy with this place for lunch. Took forever to get the food, and it all came out at once. My mother's was lukewarm. While they're at the higher end for the same coal fired pizza other competitors serve from my understanding all of their ingredients are imported directly from Italy, which contributes to the price. My go to usual is the Ah Pizz pizza with extra buffalo mozzarella and hot sopresetta. I tried their bambino dessert pie and I'd say if I didn't have a restricted appetite I would've housed this whole Nutella pie. It was delicious. I will definitely order it again. read more

I had actually tried this spot several years ago and only just retried it today. Somehow in my memory the vibe seemed slightly more upscale, currently it felt more casual. We ordered the margherita pizza and Sunday gravy pasta. Both were tasty and plentiful but not a WOW experience. For an already cold day the inside wasn't very heated so it wasn't the most comfortable and our table was a little janky but ok. Lastly the service, it was respectful but not super friendly and we didn't feel we got as much attention (there were 2 large parties so maybe that's where the attention had to be) but our server wasn't super enthusiastic but professional. Difficult to make eye contact with staff walking through the dining room, seemingly preoccupied. Brussel sprout salad need more flavor but otherwise fresh and attractively presented. Pizza Margherita was good but the basil was cooked with the pie instead of being scattered on the pie after the pie came out of the oven. Big difference in flavor. Let me start by saying that the food is good, ambiance is cute and prices are reasonable. Also BYOB, which is always a plus. It was my first night back in town and my boyfriend made reservations for us. We were promptly seated, but the good service ends there. A girl greeted us and brought wine glasses and water, but never came back to open the bottle. The place wasn't even half full, but we were left to sit for over 10 minutes. I finally got up and asked the hostess for a wine key or server, and about 5 minutes later another flustered waitress came to help us. She wrote down our order and eventually sent someone else to open our wine. This girl took our bottle to an empty table, struggled for a while to figure out how a wine key works, and I finally offered to open it myself. She thanked me and walked away. Our soup came out first and was tasty, however I asked for parmesan cheese and it never came. My boyfriend got up and asked again for cheese and still no one brought it. Frustrating, but whatever. Then our salad came, but it wasn't what we ordered. No one came back to check on us, the previous dirty dishes stayed on the table, and eventually I placed these on another table and went to find our server to correct the order. She promptly fixed it and comped our salad. Then the entrees came about two bites into our appetizer and were left to get cold. The waitress finally checked back on us about 20 minutes later. She was friendly enough, but wow, that service was atrocious! Get better staff and train them please! You have lots of potential, but bad service makes for a bad experience. This review, our first time at Ah'Pizz, Montclair on a Friday evening with 7PM reservations. We arrived on time with the Hostess seating us promptly. Finding our name and table number affixed to their menu tablet was a nice touch. There is very good spacing between tables and an upbeat vibe throughout the space. The brick oven is huge and is easily seen from just about every table. Chefs are seen busily preparing pies and many other dishes at the pizza oven and kitchen area just to the side of the oven. Wait staff are continually hustling throughout the restaurant either taking orders or delivering dinners to their tables. Many take-out orders were being handed off to customers throughout the evening, an indication of the quality of their pizza. All menu items are fully described on an electronic tablet. After making our selection, we flagged down one of the staff who took our dinner order. Amazingly, our food was brought out to us very quickly despite how busy the restaurant was. The quality of ingredients was evident in both the pizza and another entre'. I could have easily awarded Ah'Pizz with 5 stars yet would first want the opportunity to revisit this location to try more of their offerings. Parking was quite challenging, yet I have not permitted that to influence my overall rating. It's BYOB here and Ah'Pizz is highly recommended for their cuisine and dining price point. read more
