    Beef Shish Kebab

We went here for dinner and the ambience was soft lighting and a little loud. The restaurant is a byob! We first ordered the miso calamari. The pan seared calamari was naked which is more healthy than fried! The miso aioli made the big difference with the squid! It was different and delicious. The squid was tender and not chewy! For dinner I ordered the beef shish kebab. It came with two kebab. The beef tasted delicious with the Turkish style marinade. I think it would have been more worth if they added another kebab stick. The pistachio rice was good. It was a different taste with nice almonds slices. The only negative were the kebabs and rice were cold like the onion salad. And I loved the onion salad. We also ordered the salmon artichoke. The pan seared salmon was over cooked. They should have seared it in a shorter time. And it lacked seasoning believe it or not! The artichoke Brussels were a little on the burnt side. The spicy tomato sauce tasted more like ketchup. We will not be ordering this in the future. We also ordered a side of fries and Tahini brussels. The fries weee very tasty and I savored every piece. The Brussels were tasty as well. For dessert, we ordered rice pudding and baklavas. Both weee very good.

Wanted to like this place based off of the high ratings but unfortunately we were pretty disappointed. From the price to the portion and taste - it was okay at best. It's even more disappointing that the food took some time just for it to be mediocre and it wasn't even busy for brunch on a Saturday. The Shakshuka was probably the best thing we had here and it came with just one piece of bread for $19. The Beef Shish Kebab was okay? It was $28. My man had the Mushroom Manti which was $29 and it was the worse thing we had there. The broth/soup was decent but the dumpling itself had a very thick wrapping that wasn't pleasant and the inside was bland. Maybe an off day?

Wow. I'm not a huge Mediterranean fan, but maybe it's just because I'd never been here before. My top-tier chum and I stopped by for brunch yesterday to pre-game before an Oscar movie down the street; she'd been here before and I'd heard very positive feedback about it on my end. I responsibly made a reservation, which turned out to be completely needless as the restaurant had no occupied tables when we came in (though to be fair, I think it officially opened about 30 seconds before we opened the door). It definitely picked up throughout our meal so I have no regrets about ensuring a spot. Very pleasant vibe in here - like most of the imagery the Mediterranean area conjures up, there are a lot of light whites and blues, including framed artwork on the wall that looks straight out of 2008 masterpiece Mamma Mia! (sadly, my #1 cultural reference point for Greece). There's a nice looking wine bar near the entrance that I would have given a more thorough look at if I were feeling naughtier. We were seated in the dining area to the left near the windows, and made ourselves comfortable. I will say as an aside that I'd recommend leaving your coat on the rack by the door if it occurs to you - the chairs in here are very wide/round so I finally had to give up and almost sit on my coat in lieu of having it hang out on the floor. To start off our adventure, we split two apps - the hummus at my chum's request, and the za'atar bread. I would definitely get these as a package deal if you can for dipping purposes. I'm generally not a hummus person, but I thought this was excellent; not grainy like the kind you get in the supermarket, and when does dousing olive oil on something not improve the quality? But I'm not sure I would have liked it as much if I wasn't coating the hummus with my za-atar. I decided to get a little frisky/out of my comfort zone and ordered the Shakshuka, which is a dish I've never had before but was similar enough to a mainstream brunch option that I felt like I was unlikely to get burned too hard if I was wrong. And I wasn't wrong - this was DELICIOUS. Very decent portion (per the accompanying picture, there were three eggs, one of which was obscured by the slice of bread) and the tomato sauce was super flavorful and helped to mute the feta, which is usually a little too overwhelming for me. Perfect balance and 100% something I would get again now that I'm obviously a Mediterranean cuisine expert. My chum got the Mushroom Manti, partially encouraged by our waiter, and was a big fan as well. I tried it but it wasn't my jam, though I also am not a fan of mushrooms so I am for sure not the target demo for that particular menu item. I didn't even hesitate when our waiter asked about dessert, and it was an easy call. We split the first time on that menu, which was the Z Chef Special/Strawberry Pavlova. Unsurprisingly excellent. The only nitpick I have is a personal palate preference - the texture of meringue is a little chalky/gritty for me, but the pastry cream and raspberry sauce carried the day. Incredible and a great way to wrap up the meal. And somehow (my chum said this is pretty typical of the food genre) we ate apps, an entree and dessert and didn't feel disgusting. I even went over to nearby Java Love right afterwards to smuggle a pastry into the theater for later. The service was perfect. Everyone involved with taking our orders and providing the food was friendly and attentive. We had plenty of water and no lag time for anything. Just great. Huge recommendation. Next time I'm hitting up the wine bar.

Came here on a Saturday evening with a group of 8, and despite how packed the restaurant was, we were seated right on time which was a great start. The atmosphere was lively and energetic perfect for a group dinner without being too loud. The appetizers were really good especially the burrata babaganoush, which was a standout and something I'd definitely order again. Everything came out fresh and nicely presented. Our waiter was very attentive and informative, helping guide us through the menu and making great recommendations. The entree portions were a good size filling without being overwhelming and everything was flavorful and well prepared. It worked out nicely for sharing and trying a few different dishes across the table. Service stayed consistent throughout the night even as the restaurant remained busy, which I appreciated. Overall, a great spot for groups with solid food, a fun atmosphere, and attentive service. I'd definitely come back!

Came to Zeugma Mediterranean in Montclair a couple weeks ago for my friend's birthday brunch which was a beautiful, inviting spot that was perfect for the occasion. Food: We shared the grilled za'atar bread, hummus, and spicy sucuk -- all of which were flavorful and satisfying. The sucuk stood out as a perfect brunch dish, bold and hearty without being too heavy. The hummus and za'atar bread were also delicious and surprisingly filling. Service: The service was excellent. Everyone on staff seemed to jump in to help, and they were incredibly patient and attentive with our large group. It felt organized and welcoming from start to finish. Aesthetic: The space is beautifully designed with a warm, modern Mediterranean feel. There's ample seating, and the overall atmosphere is bright, clean, and very inviting.

Zeugma is not your very traditional Turkish restaurant. You won't necessarily find the usuals that you would at your favorite Turkish spot. That doesn't mean you should skip it. I would classify this place as very traditional Turkish food with a modern twist. This is a spot you come to not for dinner but for a culinary experience. Please understand that you will be dropping some money there. The food is not cheap. But it's very good and tasty and definitely a departure from what you normally get at a Turkish restaurant. It's upscale, located in a hip spot of Montclair. I would recommend parking in a lot but street parking may also be available. We tried a few appetizers, like the dolmas and the grape leaves. And I ended up getting the mushroom manti which I have never had before. My husband got the lamb chops which he found very delicious as well. We also got a couple of desserts. Suffice to say, we spent some money here. But, we would absolutely come again.

Very nice experience. Service was good and we were luckily seated right away. The mocktail menu was nice and I enjoyed the Istanbul (lavender and sumac lemonade with pepper slices). We wished they served wine by the glass and not bottle/half bottle. The zaatar bread and hummus were our favorite bites. I found myself disappointed with the cauliflower and couscous salad--texturally it was very soft. I wished the cauliflower was roasted or crunchy chickpeas were added to give the salad more of a bite. It was definitely closer to a pasta salad than green salad as there wasn't much arugula. Quick service and very nice interior, even on a busy Mother's Day.

Zeugma is a greek styled cuisine and we came here for brunch. Let's talk about the atmosphere, because my family and I spent two hours sitting in chatting because we enjoyed the patio so much. It was very calm and beautiful! The staff members were all super sweet as well... they all checked in on us and made sure everything was great! The owner gave us some complimentary pita and it was delicious! I had the salmon with a side of artichoke. Although they didn't ask me how I wanted the salmon cooked, it turned out phenomenal. We ended with dessert, the strawberry pavlova. The flavor in this pastry was so subtle and delicate. It was topped with a french meringue that was thin with the perfect amount of crisp. I'm not a fan of super sweet treats, so this pastry was just what I needed. Definitely recommend trying it if you're stopping at Zeugmas.

Love the ambience, excellent service and delicious food! Went for late lunch. I wish I took more photos especially of the 150 year old recipe mushroom dumpling dish!! I'm still dreaming about it and will be going back again very soon - so apologies I don't have it pictured here!! But if you can imagine these petite round shaped "ravioli" like dumplings filled with minced savory mushrooms and herbs and seasonings in a broth of their house yogurt sauce, drizzled with paprika oil and parsley oil. It's beautiful and yes, Do order them! Our three mezzes ordered and pictured: Pumpkin muhammara, Avogannush (a must!) and babaganoush - loved having the fresh and vibrant colored veggies and pita. You can even order some wine to have with your meal. It was about 3pm when we went but we would love to try that, too! Open, inviting and warm space. Everyone I've ever told about here comes back again and again, too.

Z special in the top left, tiramisu in the top blue bowl, chocolate mousse at bottom, baklava on right. All delicious!

I've been here twice now and really love this place. The area is great, parking is fairly convenient and the restaurant itself if gorgeous. Our waiter was very nice and accommodated us when we wanted to move to a different table when it became available. We also had some guests come late and the Zeugma staff told us not to worry and that we could take our time. We ordered the fried basa fish, the sea bass, the lamb, the salmon and the wagyu burger. The lamb was cooked perfectly! The basa fish was gigantic! A really fantastic portion size. The burger was great with nice goat cheese flavor (it had a goat cheese sauce). The sea bass was delicious with an interesting flavor combo and salmon I did not personally try. One of my favorite things will always be the grilled zataar bread which comes out so hot you have to be careful. We ordered the sautéed eggplant mezze and hummus to go with it which was delicious. The eggplant was unexpectedly cold but still tasty. We also ordered the dolma of the day which I wasn't initially excited about but tastes 1000 better than the description and it ended up being a favorite. My only critique is that some dishes are cold and that is not made clear on the menu. The last thing I'll say, and this isn't necessarily a problem, but the last time I came here was 10 months ago and to my knowledge only one or two items changed on the menu. The entre portion of the menu is pretty small compared to the mezze, so after coming twice with family I feel like I've ordered everything I would order. Lastly, we ordered pretty much all of the desserts. My favorite was the baklava but everything got very high marks.

Absolutely one of my most favorite Mediterranean spot. Have been here a few times and have brought family members from out of country and State who have also loved it. There are so many vegetarian options available. The service is on point and has cute decor. It's nice that they validate parking, if you park at the near by deck. I love their pistachio French toast. I would recommend coming for brunch.

Zeugma is such a lovely spot with delicious and incredibly fresh food! I came here with a group of four friends for brunch on a Saturday and while the place was busy, I didn't feel that it was overly loud or overwhelming. I would definitely recommend reservations during some of the peak times but it's a relatively large restaurant so I'm sure you'd be able to eventually get seated either way. One of my friends is a vegetarian and gluten-free and she had no issues finding a bunch of options to choose from on the menu. I love that everything is clearly labeled if it is vegan, vegetarian or gluten-free which makes life a lot easier for people with dietary restrictions. We started out with the mezze platter to share; you can choose any 3 mezzes. We opted for the Avogannush, Antakya Hummus, and Beet Heaven. For my main course, I got the Beet Falafel Wrap which comes with some delicious thin-sliced fries. It was extremely filling but not in a bad way; you won't feel overly stuffed after eating any of this food. I could tell that even the fries were made in a high-quality oil. If you love clean, fresh ingredients and chill, trendy vibe, Zeugma is a must-try!

But although I found the restaurant to be cozy and my server to be friendly, the food though freshly prepared was just average at best. Let me explain. So, after perusing the menu, I saw a few Mediterranean staples, such as, baba-ghanoush, lentil soup, and a beef Shawarma entrée. So I decided to order all three of those items. Now, let me tell you not only was I excited to taste the food here, but I truly wanted to experience what a majority of people on yelp said about this place and its food. But I soon discovered that you truly cannot trust other peoples opinions when it comes to food. You just literally have to try it yourself to see if it even resembles that cuisines standard benchmarks. Well anyway, let me get to what I thought about the food. The lentil soup it's pretty tasty, but it would serve lukewarm. The baba-ghanoush was also tasty, but the pita bread was stale and void of any flavor. And as for the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, it was literally chopped up cubes of beef! Nothing near to what a standard Shawarma entrée should resemble, or let alone taste like! To be quite honest, I was so disenchanted with the Shawarma entrée that I asked my server to take it away and just give me the bill. I was ready to go! But my server genuinely saw my disappointment with this so-called Beef Shawarma that she pleaded with me to try another entrée. So I asked her to recommend another entrée to me. And she recommended the Skewered Chicken entrée. So, I caved in and went ahead and ordered this Skewered Chicken entrée. But I should've just went with my gut feeling and just should have paid the bill and left. I say this because it took forever for them to prepare this Skewered Chicken entrée and I mean forever! And this is on a Tuesday night with only two other people inside the restaurant, so literally this place was empty! (Not sure if the Cook made me wait for this dish out of spite for me sending back the first entree but that is my suspicion). Anyway, I got my server's attention and she told me if I could wait a few more minutes because they were plating my dish and that it will be out shortly. And that literally took another 10 minutes. To say that I was eager to get out of this place would be an understatement. I was standing up literally putting on my jacket when the dish finally reached my table. My server asked me kindly to return to my seat and to try her recommended entrée. So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and I did so. The Skewered Chicken entrée was a little better than the so-called Beef Shawarma entrée, but really nothing to write home about. What a letdown! I really wanted to give this restaurant one star, but my server really showed genuine concern about my dining experience. And I truly appreciated that. And so as for my take on Le Souk of Montclair NJ. I would caution spending your hard earned money at this restaurant. The food is mediocre at best and there are a lot of better options in the Montclair area for Mediterranean food.
