Great addition to the neighborhood. Zeba is "Home". They offer daily specials that you can't beat and won't find much in the city. $4 cocktails, wine and food specials. BEST pizza in the Heights (yes, even better than Red Rocks) and fabulous Martini's (which are standard, fresh and always seasonal)! The bartenders are not stingy with the alcohol (always a plus) and are always friendly.They've just recently introduced Brunch which offers a variety of bottomless Mimosas. Although still building their menu, the omelets were spectacular. You will always find loyal, friendly neighborhood patrons seated at the bar. The space boasts an outdoor front patio, 1st floor bar with table seating. The 2nd level has another bar, a dance floor and DJ booth. And finally, the 3rd level has an open window covered deck with a smaller bar and seating. With continued proper promotion, finding the right crowd and drawing in more locals, Zeba will be a gold mine! If you're into the chill, local bar scene then I highly recommend. read more

Average at best. I was disgusted by the fact that we ordered waters and were told they "don't serve water" but we could buy a small bottle of water from them for $4. At first I thought the bartender was joking - nope! Such crap - even for DC. Won't be going back. read more

Yo DJ pump that music! Great sound system in this hidden spot in Columbia Heights. Went here on Friday - a friend of mine was DJing here along with another guy. We had a good time, plenty of places to sit (front patio, first floor, upstairs patio, couches outlining the dance floor) and plenty of places to stand (the space around the upstairs bar was strangely open, maybe it's because only a select few frequent this place). Hookah was cheap (less than $20) and liquor is about $7/pop. I like this place, fun neighborhood bar tucked away in the dichotomy that is Columbia Heights. read more

Wow - I've never seen a place with hookah this clean before! Really did a double-take when I walked in downstairs. The silly little place is right across the street from my friend's apartment so we drop by from time to time. Never really seen the place too crowded, but the bartenders have always been cool - quick to bring the drinks and the off smoke some hookah. I liked the beer selection here (though I haven't been for happy hour or food) since they have a pretty wide variety of choices. The hookah was pretty good, but I thought it could've been a bit stronger for my taste. I usually go to Nomad on H Street but after seeing the reviews for Zeba I decided to give it a try. I did not expect the low prices especially during happy hour. $3 beer, $4 cocktails, $10 hookah, and low price appetizers you can't beat those prices anywhere else in the District. Especially when places like Nomad will charge over $30 just for the hookah! Zeba service was phenomenal, everyone was very courteous. Definitely my new hookah spot. read more

I enjoyed that they are one of very few who put their signature drinks on happy hour the cucumber martini omg and had the margaritas drinks get a 5 but I gave them a 4 star because if I could eat before I get there I would, wings greesy fried, pizza like a frozen over cheesy brand. Went to Zeba to see my friend DJ tonight. I tried to get a drink from the downstairs bar and the girl bar tending danced and talked to her friends while ignoring me. She saw me waiting and waited on several other people who came to the bar after me. When I finally ordered two Jamason on the rocks the bill came to $22. I gave her $30 and she came back with $8. She looked at me and took the $5 and handed me three and walked away. I'm a bartender and all of my friends are bartenders and I'm always an over tipper. So basically this chick stole from me by taking her tip and not letting me choose what to give her. She was rude and just awful.when i first said hello and ordered my drinks. read more

Music is decent but service is lacking. This bar definitely suffers from an identity crisis. Came one night and they have this really bad magician performing. Another night came for Stop Light party but there weren't enough people and it was boring. It is not a restaurant -- the food is mediocre at best and overpriced at worst. Their cocktails are too sweet and not strong enough. Their saving grace is their deck which is laid back and cool. I would come here again but only to see friends. Went with a friend a few weekends ago, and it was awesome. It's four very distinct spots in one bar: downstairs is a sidewalk cafe and a dive bar, upstairs is a dance floor and an enclosed patio out back (with bar), all fairly separate from each other. The vibe is quality without being pretentious. Pizza was great, pineapple mojitos on special, and the extremely nice waitress gave us free tastings of all the beers on tap (unprompted). It was mostly empty, though, for the 3ish hours we were in there. I know they've only been open a few months, but I'm kinda concerned. I spoke with the friendly bartender about how to distinguish themselves in the neighborhood, and I suggested a $5 open bar night with dancing, a la DC9s Friday night Liberation Dance party. This bar is pretty sweet, super chill and unpretentious. The music/DJ is good, and I like the diverse crowd. I've been here a couple times for drinks, and occasionally there are people smoking hookah. One day I got a groupon for the place and it included 2 cocktails and 2 small plates. Well let me tell you, these small plates were not small at all! My friend and I split veggies/pita with hummus, spicy buffalo chicken strips and fries, which were of very sizeable portions and were definitely of above average quality for bar food. Then for drinks I had the strawberry lemonade cocktail and the mojito (both which were delicious!) I will definitely be back for more, groupon or not. An unpretentious bar with loads of upside. Outdoor seating, two bars, and a dance floor. I have not been when the dance floor is active, so I can't attest to the noise level or crowd, but during happy hour, dinnertime, week night bar time, Zeba is a pleasant place. The chicken wings are good. They come out breaded and fried, with the sauce on the side. I did not think I'd like it that way, but the wings were really good and they were fried perfectly. The pizzas, are a thin, crispy type, that at first look, look unimpressive. They're good though. I really look forward to trying the kebabs. I wish I could rate this place 0 stars so nobody would know about it, but then I'd feel guilty. The downstairs bartender told great stories and shared, on the house, what he said was house-infused bourbon with honey and cloves. Uh....no complaints here. The upstairs bartender was super fast. The patio was warm even though it was probably 30 degrees outside...they don't skimp on the heat lamps. The dance floor was awesome. And it didn't get crowded until 11 or 12. Compare that to Meridian Pint, which is also great, but where it was impossible to get a table or even a corner of bar to lean against at 7:30. read more

The first time I went we had Felix as the bartender and he made awesome drinks. The last 2 times i went there was the same male bartender (not felix) the drinks were okay but not great. The chicken wings and the sweet potato fries are delicious! $3 fries are large enough for 2 people to share. I like that there are 3 different flavors of wings. Small and quaint. Good for small groups. Loooove the mango mint. My girlfriends come here often and one gets the Zeba Iced Tea and it's a great cocktail to sip on. For a dive bar, it is definitely does well. read more

Love this place! They have an amazing happy hour and the outdoor seating is great...both on the front pation and the upstairs deck. Absolutely bizarre. Zeba totally suffers severely from an identity/branding crisis. It is an amazing space that could be drawing a lot of local people and revenue, but it's not being utilized well by the owners. It clearly wants to be a Euro-night club, but that kind of establishment is poorly placed in Columbia Heights and it shows - I've been there twice on Friday nights and it's totally empty. The only saving grace (and it's a GOOD one) is the hidden outdoor back deck (3rd floor, all the way back), which makes it totally worth it to go, especially because it's beautiful, laid-back, and so empty that you can still hear your friends and get a drink quickly. The deck is like the wonderful, neighborhood bar that Columbia Heights craves, but you have to walk through two floors of sad "club" space to get there. (What a waste, ugh. I wish they'd get a consultant to advise them.) The food is NOT good (again, what a shame in a foodie neighborhood) and is really only suited for moments of drunkenness when you don't care how it tastes or if it comes out as promised on the menu. The staff is nice, no complaints. *As a side note - if you're still reading - I went last night and had the most sad, but also ridiculously amusing experience. (It's the totally bizarreness that will likely bring me back, actually.) I think the owners apparently got some kind of promoters. This place really needs a re-brand and better food, not promoters, but whatever. Anyhow, they brought in shot girls (absolutely ridiculous for this venue and by the end of the night, the shots were free due to no sales), a photographer, and a (really bad) magician, all floating around on the back deck. The mix of people literally included frat boys, a large drag queen, shot girls, a magician, Persian-style guys with gold chains, and some great lesbians. DEF one of those neighborhood bars that you're afraid to review for fear of the word getting out to the masses. We've been coming here, mostly on Fridays, for several years now and continue to be regular patrons. Hard for a week to go by and not make an appearance here. The staff and patrons are what makes the establishment. From the owner, to his sons and the other bartenders, barbacks, cook, security etc they make you feel totally at home. It's the definition of a "come as you are" bar. Hipsters, yuppies, gays, blacks, whites, older, younger all are welcome here and mix well. Their happy hour DAILY (including weekends)is fantastic and goes until 8:00pm. The bar food is average to above average in quality and they have some pretty slamming specials. I find their hookah to be fairly consistently high quality as well. There is both a front patio and rear porch with seating for the nature lovers and the 90's hip-hop/r&b playlist gets us EVERYTIME! They have made subtle but worthwhile tweaks and upgrades to the place over the years, they've got a great thing going here, please keep it up! read more

I was at Zeba Bar on Friday (July 15, 2011). Their drinks were very good and creative, the chicken kabob was amazing, the staff was very friendly and wen't out of their way to make us feel at home, and were very attentive. In addition, there was plenty of space, so we did not feel cramped, unlike other places. Also, Zeba Bar is very close to the subway, which always helps if you plan to enjoy their amazing cocktail drinks. I very much recommend this place to everyone. read more
