Came here a couple times. I was absolutely floored by the expensive price of their chicken shawarma. The platter had almost no chicken , AT ALL. I ate the few pieces of chicken and headed to Chipotle because I was starving! The French fries were good but I would not get the platter ever again. So so so disappointed!! I was craving a good Arabic flatbread so decided to try this place a try. The reviews were high so I really did have high expectations. However, I was very much disappointed. The pitza was very decent, nothing special at all compared to other places in the city like Manousheh or Moustache Pizza. My bigger disappointment though was the falafel. We had tasty lamb kebab and shawarma. But there was this annoying slightly sour sauce on top of everything. And there were some things that were obviously overcooked. Delicious food. Was trying to find a place to eat in the area and while many of the other places had a wait, this place looked virtually empty. Usually that's a sign of a bad restaurant, but we decided to try it anyways. Turns out there's a patio in the back where most people sit. To order you scan a QR code and can add whatever you want with any customizations you may want. Kind of weird but it actually makes sense. Food comes fast. We got the lamb platter and the grilled vegetable platter, as well as a chicken shawarma wrap. The meal also comes with two huge pita breads which was a nice surprise. The platters were excellent, the meat well seasoned accompanied with tasty rice, great hummus, and a nice side salad. A super well balanced dish. Sunday afternoon, wanted to sit in the garden around back but looked like it was about to rain; instead got a round table near the window. Lots of options on the menu - decided on the Leg of Lamb sandwich ($8.50) to go with a glass of Chilean red ($8). Food comes out in about 15 minutes - a wrapped toasted pita surrounding juicy lamb chunks, lettuce, tomato, and onions. Basic sandwich yet incredibly flavorful; didn't need any extra sauce. Also got to try the Vegetable Kabob Platter ($11.50); solid roasted veggies and a tangy hummus served with amazing oven-baked bread. Wine is smooth and a good companion to the meal. Servers are friendly and our food came out quickly. Only drawback I have is cash-only, which is always a bummer (there is an ATM attached to the restaurant outside). The best thing about Zaytoons was the server. She was kind, helpful and engaging. We very much liked the outdoor seating. Fun and enjoyable even on a hot day. The canopy keeps it pleasant. I had been there before and liked my meal more than this time. I wish I remembered what I ordered on my first visit. The best food was the labne appetizer. It went well with the bread that was also good. The babaganoush was tasty. Two of us had vegetable kabobs which were nondescript in taste and texture. Grilled vegetables can be delicious. These weren't. The salad and rice were equally plain. One of our party had a meat dish which he found uninteresting. We usually look forward to new places and are very much drawn to Middle Eastern food. I might return if a friend who likes the place has better dishes to recommend. It was lovely They gave us a fixed menu were able to pick from main courses and appetizers ( babanush ,hummus, grape leaves ,falafel, tabule and another salad ( tomatoes, pepers and spices . The street is closed on Saturdays and Sundays so you can stroll for a few blocks in the middle of the street. It was not too crowded on a Sunday night. Lots of people picnicking on the sidewalk in front of their buildings, and in the middle of the street. There are many restaurants to choose from. I was with my husband and my sister in law. We wanted to eat outside. Zaytoons has a lovely garden, but it was a bit too enclosed for our comfort. We chose one of their tables in the street, which was great for people watching. There are no menus. You have to access the menu online. I removed one star simply because the prices on their online menu are vastly different from the actual cost. For instance, online menu says a pita is 75 cents, but in reality it is $1.50. Still reasonably priced, but why isn't the online menu up to date? The pitas are yummy. They are large pillows. Very fresh. We shared a large hummus, a large tabuli and a large lentil and rice. It was more than enough food for 3. Everything was very tasty. Service was friendly. Except, when we asked about the price discrepancy, our server shrugged her shoulders. read more

The couscous was very dry and looked sad when it arrived and when we apologized and sent it back the waitress rudely told us this was what couscous was but we've had many dishes like this before that were worlds better. I ate here in person a while ago and got delivery recently. Even when I'm not in the mood for this type of food, I get in the mood when this arrives. I got the chicken kebab platter with babaganoush. Even the rice was so well done and tasty. The chicken was tender and flavorful and the eggplant dip was soo fresh and delicious, it was probably the best I've ever had! (Babaganoush can easily go wrong). Many dishes come with soft, thin pita, but I got the zaatar bread, too. It's simple but so tangy and addictive. I haven't tried the "pitzas" but I love that those are an option on the menu. I got the grape leaves which were on the small side and didn't pack enough punch for me, but my friend loves them. On the inside this place is somewhat unassuming, but has a lovely yard for outdoor seating (not sure if it's open now). There's a lot to choose from - you really can't go wrong! read more

We received an invitation to have dinner on July 4th. We arrived just before sundown, which I recommend. To see this beautiful atmosphere transition from day to night adds a great element. The outdoor seating is beautifully landscaped and each table offers a private setting. We sat at a fire pit table, again, recommend. We started off with a great cocktail then moved on to our dinner. Each of us had something different and each was excellent. The watermelon salad is a must have to start off your dinner. We shared our watermelon salad as it is enough for two. GO HERE FOR DELICIOUS FOOD AND NICE PEOPLE It smells delectable and heavenly when you first walk in and you know it's gonna be good. The decor is also really nice and cozy, so it makes for a great lunch vibe with friends. The falafel platter (which I got) is so yummy and in retrospect, would be the perfect amount to share with someone (instead of eating as one person). Delicious falafel and hummus, refreshing side salad. We got the falafel platter, shawarma platter, and shawarma wrap and everyone loved their food (probably too much for three people). This is a great middle eastern spot. The food is fresh and full of flavor. The prices are all super affordable. They even have a outdoor garden where you can dine . The service though can be more attentive and friendlier. I think the only plus id that : The place looks good, clean, I came to order shishkebab sandwich by the menu I saw on the front desk, ( there is 2 menus 1 to stay, and one To go ) I got the to go one. The sandwich was $6.5 they charge me $8.5, To my Question why, they answer the one I'm looking at is an old menu, ( if it is old why do you keep it on the front dasc so everyone can see ?! 0_o ) So I ordered instead the falafel sandwich $5.5 First time in my life I received falafel in a wrap, The falafel it self have no test one of the worst one I have ever try , no humus in the sandwich. I would have given this place 4 stars, but my gosh the service was just really off the night I came here. But, I must say, the backyard garden is beautiful. Summer in NYC is just wonderful. Sitting in the backyard on a warm summer night and being with good people really recharges the battery (that would be code for the soul). I was pretty thirsty when we got here, so naturally, we ordered up a few beers, IPA-style and of the Brooklyn variety. Tell me why the food showed up before the beers? That is a no-no in my book. The food was pretty good. Tabbouleh, fetoosh, hommus, babbaganoush and tons of pita helped to fill the void in the belly. It is good Middle Eastern food, so you won't be disappointed, but the service will definitely irk you (unless you are used to laissez-faire attitude of European service)... A great spot on a summer night and definitely sit out back, have a few beers and just hang around chatting (you will be here awhile since service is shotty)! read more

The bread is fresh the food is made fresh you can actually taste the difference between fresh food and other places where they just heat your food. The sharwarma plate is to die for honestly I come here every time I'm in Brooklyn either I get the sandwiches their plates or pizza. This is my favorite Zaytoons hands down. Like the other Zaytoons I get the spinach pie..unlike the other locations, this one has the largest. It's like a pound of spinach with mozzarella cheese. I mean, it's amazing. You really can't beat the price, which is under $8 for like 2 servings of food. The seating here is good, sometimes it gets too busy and you might have to wait a bit, but for the most part it isn't a problem. The staff is always friendly.. Love the food. We were frequent visitors to the smith street location for years. It is really a hassle and annoying that it is cash only. The bank machine in the restaurant charges 2.50 fee. I've been to the other Brooklyn location and have enjoyed it. So you can imagine, I was disappointed after my dining experience here this week. Under no circumstances should I have to wear a coat inside to stay warm. And hot tea should stay hot when you pour it into a mug. The food was as cold as the room. If there were any redeeming qualities to the food, they were all wiped out by an incredibly unpleasant experience while sitting inside the restaurant. This also begs the question of what the point is to having a menu system that requires you use your phone to order food. At one point the waitress said: it's OK I can put it in the system myself. i'm pretty sure that's how every other restaurant in the world works. Yes we tipped well because people live off of tips but I will not be patronizing this restaurant in the future. Which is a shame because our waitress was very nice. ---------- Thank you for responding. There comes a point which the temperature should be comfortable enough for people to dine without resorting to wearing their jackets to keep warm. That should be an obvious indicator that the heat needs to be turned on. The tea got cold - not due to human error - but because it was so cold in the dining room. And finally, our waitress was most definitely not an elderly man. I say the following with much respect. She was a stunningly beautiful woman. I don't blame her for what happened. She catered to us with great dignity and respect. Unfortunately New York City is filled with great restaurants and this was such a negative experience that I will not be returning. read more

The food here is absolutely incredible. For 3 people we had the Combo Plate with Hummus, Foul, Labneh, Turkish Salad, and Babaghanouj as an appetizer. For our entrees we had 3 platters: Chicken Kabob, Chicken Shawarma, and the Merguez. For dessert we had the Baklava Cheesecake which (as a person with a huge sweet tooth) was of course devoured within minutes. Every single dish we had was excellent, bursting with flavor and so many different combinations to choose from. All the dishes were fresh and the pita is handmade so it's unlike any pita I've had before. All of the food we had was delicious and so reasonably priced, beyond worth it to eat here. The place itself is very cozy and a nice place to sit down, with great service. No complaints and will definitely be back! read more

I used Seamless to place my order. I ordered the sharwma platter which consisted of lamb over rice with a small side salad and an option of hummus or Baba ghanoush, I went with the hummus. I found the food to be decent. The meat was a little hard and the rice was too soft (almost mushy). The hummus and the salad were just okay. I order at 5:14 pm and received my order around 6:10 so it took the entire estimated time of 45-60 minutes . I was disappointed in this as I live only 7 minutes away on foot (yes, I did check on Google Maps). I will not order from here again. read more

I disagree with any reviewers that don't give this place 5 stars across the board. I'm a local and my partner and I love this place. We usually get the platters, both falalfel and the shawarma. The salad that comes with it is always fresh. Flavorfal meats and moist falafel. Soft flatbread. In a city of often very expensive, over-priced food, I think this place is the most reasonably priced restaurant in the city, especially since you also get generous portions. The cherry on the top is the baklava, which is some of the best I've ever had: flaky, moist, flavorful, syrup-soaked bottom. Also highly recommend the arabic coffee if you want an energy boost. Super caffeinated, tasty, and unique. Dining in has been a good experience, but take-out was also quick and the food arrived hot. This place is the best and one of my favorites in all of NYC. read more
