Had never heard of Zaxby's before setting foot in St. Augustine, but I've already been here 3 times in 2 weeks. Okay, it helps a lot that my hotel is just across the street, but it's also really good for fast food chicken. (Good for you being something else entirely...) For you non-southerners out there, the Zaxby's club is worth a try. It's filled with chicken fingers, bacon, lettuce, and tomato on Texas toast. Practically oozing butter and fat, but quite tasty. The fried mushrooms are pretty good too, though they're pretty heavy on the salt / spice and batter side. Last thing that makes this location good: it's clean, and the tables and chairs aren't covered in grease. Only downside is it's pretty annoying to cross the street if you're on the other side of Ponce de Leon Blvd since it's a pretty busy artery, but that's not really a fault of the restaurant. read more

I'd heard a LOT of great things about Zaxby's, including someone mentioning that they had better chicken than Chick-Fil-A. I'm not a HUGE fan of Chick-Fil-A, but for some reason everyone thinks that is the greatest chicken joint in the history of chicken joints. Nevertheless, I was in the mood for some good fried chicken and swung on through here. First thing I noticed- the building is brand new. I remember when Burger King used to be here in this location, but they tore that building down and put up this one. The inside of the building is very cool looking, with pictures and signs of ancient St. Augustine. Very clean, very modern, but with a historic old-time feel to it. What I liked about the menu was that there were quite a few different choices- not simply buckets of fried chicken with mashed potatoes and corn. Of course they did have that, but there were also plenty of sandwiches, chicken strips, and more available. I went with a spicy chicken strip sandwich combo meal and a chocolate shake. The chicken strip sandwich was very, very good. The chicken was crispy on the outside, tender on the inside, with a nice little kick. Topped with cool, fresh veggies and a tasty bun- it made for a great sandwich. The french fries were also very good, they had a nice little spice to them that put them clearly above many other fast food fries I've ever had. The chocolate shake was DELICIOUS- LOVE IT! The service here was also very good, the lady at the counter was very friendly and helpful, and I also noticed a few different workers coming out into the lobby to clean at different times, keeping everything orderly. The food was served fairly quickly, although it does look like they make the food when you order it, so it may take a bit longer than other places, but it wasn't bad. I noticed the drive-thru line wasn't very long either. Overall- very impressed with Zaxby's. Definitely better than KFC, and I suppose depending on the sandwich or chicken you order better than Chick-Fil-A. Zaxby's all around is consistently good food, and an eat-in dining experience that to me is better than the typical fast-food experience. I have yet to visit a Zaxby's where the food wasn't consistently good. You also have to love the fact that they've made the Birthday Cake milkshake a permanent menu item! I could hurt myself with too many of those. The Zaxby's in St. Augustine is one we visit regularly when on vacation there; on my last visit, the staff was very friendly, and more than one of them went out of their way to make sure we had everything we needed and more. I was pleasantly surprised at this behavior, as they were dealing with a lunch rush crowd at that time, so their making time for us to ensure a complete and satisfying visit was unexpected and quite nice. This has got to be the worse experience going threw a drive threw That I have ever visited and the worse was yet to come! It all starts with a day on the beach Lovely Hot Day got a call from a buddy who said " Lets go out in the boat at 530"?" Now first I want to say that "his boat: is what most people would call a yacht ! More than 67 feet of luxury! A few friends maybe a overnight-er I am in. So here is where all Hell starts ... I go threw the Zaxbys drive threw ( mind you I do not frequent drive thru chicken places but, I was in a hurry. So to the drive thru for a quick bite . We order 2 combo's and pull up to the window . Now the shit starts to happen.... The highly trained person at the drive threw filled my drink so full that when she handed it to me it spilled all over me ( wearing a very expensive white shirt) and into the Envoy that we had had cleaned the night before I drove back around with coke all over every where and asked for a manger she came to the window and quickly handed me a card for 2 combos . At this point I thought is she been around frying grease to long? Knowing that she is not on the top of her game . I left to try and get changed to get to the Yacht before they left . I Went home changed shirts pants tried to get some out of the coke out of the truck it was sticky as(s) for Chad hell. By that time it was to late he was fixing to leave . So I called him and canceled . Then I tried cleaning the shirt with everything I new no go..... it was a linen white shirt that did not have sizing or scotch guard on it. Then I took the shirt to a dry cleaner to try and get the stain out and followed by a car wash to get the sticky coke out of the car. So all in all It cost me 2 cleaning bills a shirt brand new that they could not get the stain out a detail at the car wash. So I started calling first I called the store no help then the owner who either had a mouth full of chicken or Tobacco or marbles not sure which. Then their corporate. I finally got a email from one of the owners (wife) nearly stalking me sending email after email even after I gave her all the info. After a month of calling 20 people at Zaxby Corp she sends me a check. Then she sends me a email saying" Your welcome" What!!!! lady your out of your mind so... you think I am supposed to "Thank You " WTF lady you have been frying to much chicken you have lost your mind .
