UPDATE i went back on a saturday evening, and it was a lot less crowded, maybe less than 10 patrons/groups. i went in, waited 5mins and was out with my whole chicken. The kid behind the counter asks "Anything else?" Traumatized by my first visit, i muttered "garlic sauce" "No garlic sauce?" the kid was alarmed. I said "NO!" almost too loud. "Make sure its in there. Thats the best part" He replies "IKR" The chicken itself wasnt as good as my first time, and probably because it was precooked in a batch before I arrived? It's so weird that i came from the westbound lane of Colorado and just as i was going to U turn into the curb of Zankou, all these cars from the opposite lane swooping allthe curbside spots. Grr. I ordered the combo plate with shish and chicken kebob. You have various options for sides, I chose the basmati rice , hummus, and cucumber salad. The plate also includes a side of pita bread, which is great! The food was DELICIOUS and super flavorful! The meat was cooked perfectly and the chicken was really juicy. The cucumber salad was a perfect refreshing side dish that complimented the kebobs! I also tried their baklava, and my sweet tooth was definitely satisfied. Where has Zankou Chicken been all my life?! I've always heard good things about this place but never got around to trying it until recently. We were in the mood for Mediterranean food and decided to stop by for dinner. We ordered the chicken kabob plate and a rotisserie half chicken plate. I took note from the Yelp reviews to ask for extra garlic sauce, and I'm definitely glad I did. That's definitely some good stuff! I was pleasantly surprised to see how much food we got for the price. The kabob plate came with pieces of juicy chicken, fluffy rice, hummus, pita bread, cucumber salad, pickled onions and roasted tomato! Everything was delicious and I was happy to enjoy my leftover hummus and salad for the following day. Although this place is known for their rotisserie chicken, I would probably opt for their kabob plates instead since the rotisserie chicken plates don't come with rice or cucumber salad. Instead, it comes with hummus, pita bread, freshly chopped tomatoes and pickled turnips and chiles. If you like those options instead, then you'll enjoy it but there's just something about that fluffy rice and crunchy, refreshing cucumber salad that hits just right. read more

Never understood the fuss behind Zankou and now I totally get why. Ordered online and got the steak kebab plate and husband got the combo kebab plate. Pick up was fairly easy and there was street parking. As soon as I got in my car I was in savory scented heaven. I think per their name they do chicken better but it was insanely moist, well seasoned with a slight charred flavor and amazing. The steak was also so good, again moist but thoroughly cooked and tad too salty but great. I loved the generous accompaniments like rice, roasted tomato, cucumber salad, 2 pieces of pita bread, smooth hummus and garlic sauce. It wasn't cheap but I think compared to other restaurants, you get more food and thus value is certainly there. What actually super impressed me was the quantity of rice and presence of roasted tomato, almost always at a Mediterranean restaurants I don't have enough rice and the tomato is generally nowhere to be found and is super appreciated! I can't wait to try their rotisserie chicken meals because they are clearly a whiz with chicken! Highly recommend. read more

I really wish there is a zankou chicken near me......but If i want zankou, I would have to drive all the way to pasadena for the closest one. Definitely worth it, it is super inexpensive and super good deal for their family meal. Their chicken is their speciality and that's exactly what you should get. If you feeling something smaller, I personally dont think it's enough but it still taste very good is their grill chicken wrap. The real bright spot is that everything you want is in there but of course it never hurts to add more garlic paste to it to make it even better. So highly recommend family deal and basically anything with the grill chicken. I also really like the Tabbouleh Salad. It's really refreshing and it just goes well together what the wrap and the chicken and the garlic paste. Good Mediterranean roast chicken although for me is a little pricey compared to other roast chicken but it's worth a try

Have you ever being so hungry but you don't want to eat to bad and you'll look for the healthiest restaurant around? I was near Pasadena and I found this place that I been in a couple of them before, but never tried this location before. I decided order online and that's really convenient because a soon as you arrive your order might be ready to pick up and eat it in there or just take it home, I order a whole chicken with the sides of cucumber salad, tzatziki, hummus, and also some beef Lule kebabs. I got there and the order was ready and got to enjoy in the trunk of my car, the people there were super nice and attentive, they made sure everything was packed and ready. Food is very juicy and flavorful to be a big chain and you always appreciate that, to get the value out of your money. You might say why just 4 stars regardless that it was flavorful it was missing that point where you spice and condiment the food to "perfection" an there is nothing bad about it, since we had worst and really bad experiences in big chains where they don't care about the food at all. It pains me a bit to write this review because I have been a Zankou Chicken fanboy for decades, however two experiences have forced me to share my thoughts. Earlier this year, I had ordered my go-to half rotisserie chicken plate. When I was eating said plate I found a huge roasting pin stuck in the middle of my chicken breast. Luckily, I wasn't taking bites out of the chicken, otherwise I could have stabbed my mouth. I decided to reach out to corporate to simply let them know in case their equipment or procedures were faulty. They replied, apologized, and offered me a $25 gift card. They asked for my address to which I thanked them and provided. Two follow up emails and four months later, I never received said gift card. All my attempts to contact them after the offer were ignored. Now, not willing to give up on that delicious chicken (even if I could have impaled my mouth), I ordered once again. This time the chicken tasted like it had been boiled rendering all the flavor out and the breast was so rubbery I couldn't even bite into it. I drove back to exchange it for a tarna plate, but the taste and texture of my first plate ruined my appetite. I worry that Zankou is getting too big for it's britches and it's quality/service is starting to lack. I hope this isn't the case, but at least to me it's starting to seem this way. read more

I tried this place with some friends after they mentioned that it was a pretty popular place to eat. Unfortunately, it was also my first time being disappointed with Mediterranean food. I ordered the chicken tarna plate, which included the meat, garlic sauce, hummus, tahini, and some veggies and pita bread on the side. Make sure to ask for extra garlic sauce because it's so good, especially with the pita bread. I found the chicken to be very dry, and was only able to eat it after drowning it in hummus. I wasn't a fan of the tahini so I didn't use it at all, but that's just my personal preference. Sadly the only part of the meal I really enjoyed was the pita bread dipped in garlic sauce or hummus. I'm not sure if it was an off day when I came, but I didn't see what was so good about this place. One pro is that their serving sizes are pretty big, and you could probably share one plate among two people, so you end up getting a lot of food for the price. read more

There was four of us and we split two chickens and ordered a third for later A whole chicken comes with three pieces of pita bread and three small tubs of garlic sauce. This restaurant is always clean and has a steady flow of people running in for a whole chicken to go. The restroom was clean and well stocked. You have got to come and eat this chicken. We were able to enjoy this yummy treat after we finished our lunch, which was the Family Meal. They have really good portions, and great food. We love their tabbouleh.
