    Bun mam
    Dan P.

Bun mam - this hits with a bold fermented shrimp aroma, but is not overly fishy or pungent, just savory with a nice umami depth w mild spice kick. the broth is more sweet rather than sour. Eggplant and crispy pork toppings paired well! Banh hoi bo la lot - the vermicelli bundles had a great soft texture, but they came out a bit cold. the scallion oil was underwhelming, lacking that fresh, fragrant punch it usually brings when it's just-made. the beef was savory with a well-balanced mix of fatty and lean meat, grilled perfectly. putting all of this in lettuce wraps was really fun and refreshing! Service quick and friendly! Easy free parking and there's some cool dessert shops in the plaza for quick stops afterwards.

Just had lunch here! Very good food and service! We had the bo la lot, banh canh, and bun bo hue. Bo La Lot was tasty and came with vermicilli noodles and lettuce, the nuoc mam (fish sauce) was very flavorful and paired well ! The banh canh was not very deep in flavor, but still rich and tasty! I enjoyed it! The bun bo hue was also lighter in broth consistency, but still tasty. Next time we look forward to trying the grilled fish!

I really do not know how this place got the current reviews it has. We once walked in there to dine but it was freezing inside and my son didn't want to stay because he was so cold. We decided to walk out and 3 people surrounded us too get us to stay, it was overwhelming and uncomfortable. There was no one else in the restaurant. We decided to get food to-go on a diff occasion. We ordered few plates but I'm going to review 1. We order the grilled catfish for spring rolls. I ordered and XL fish . My husband picked it up and it was wrapped so he didn't look at it until we got home. When we saw it, it was a joke! The fish was so small ( and we paid for an extra large). You can see in the pic that the head was the size of an orange slice and barely bigger than two hands . It was a total rip off. They packed 5 pieces of rice paper ( for an extra large) . Which means I've essentially paid $80 for 5 rolls. and the vegetables they packed were not only scarce but it was rotting and looked like left overs that were picked through, I was pretty livid that they thought this was okay to do as we don't unpack to-go orders until we got home. I'd never buy from here again and get why this place is completely empty every time we walk by. The food was flavorless and the sauces were just salty with a weird smell.

If you're in the area and hungry, this stop is worth it. I love pho but was interested in trying other Vietnamese soups. This place did not disappoint! The place is clean and looks like most Vietnamese restaurants. The server and chef were very nice. The chef brought out the food and helped us box and bag leftovers. The menu has English underneath, so that helped me. We order a #6 and #7. I wasn't sure I liked shrimp paste broth (#7). It was one of the best soups I've ever had. The broth was perfectly balanced and delicious. They added a good amount of fish cakes, shrimp, pork. The bamboo soup (#7) Came with a separate plate full of duck. It was so much food, we went home with a whole second meal. If you're not into leftovers, just order one soup. Pro tip: The duck in the air fryer the next day was amazing. Take home the sauce for dipping.

The Most Interesting Woman in the World had been eyeing this restaurant for awhile now and we recently had a chance to try it. We found the staff to be super friendly and grateful for our business. The ca nuong (broiled fish) was cooked perfectly, well seasoned, and not burned at all. It had all the helpings including really good nuoc mam, greens, and rice paper. They had a high chair for the kiddo as well. The only downside is that there aren't public restrooms

I'm pretty picky when it comes to food, especially Hai Nan style rice chicken. However, Zan Kitchen definitely got my attention..the place to go to for this dish! Chicken was excellent with its texture and the rice was perfectly flavored to balance with the soup that goes with the meal. As for the nước mắm... OMG!!! it's well made to complete the true taste of the Vietnamese Hai Nan style! I cannot wait to try more dishes from Zan... the baked fish is next on my list!

New restaurant. I had to try it to see how good it was. The chicken dish was pretty good. The pork feet bun was interesting, but it was yummy as well. The bun cha Ha Noi was okay, but definitely not the best. It's one of those restaurants where it's good but I don't have a particular desire to go back because there wasn't one particular dish that was compelling enough for me to go back. There's so many new restaurants available that I want to try out. The place is clean and the service is typical. There's no long lines at all.

I'm not sure if it's still soft opening or grand opened already, but for the fact that I know it's a very new Vietnamese restaurant in Little Saigon. The service is excellent. Small restaurant which makes you feel cozy. We all tried Bun Mam which is pretty flavorful, the broth actually comes from fermented fish (not like some restaurant that puts flavor powder which is not good.) That's why we really like the dish. It's one of best Bun Mam that I've ever had. The lady (I think she is the owner) gave us more vegetables without us asking for more which is very good customer service right there. Will come back!

Love the new mom and pop Vietnamese restaurant! Authentic noodle dishes that always hits the spot and that reminds me of how my mom used to make it. Love their bun mam and bun vit mang sao (rice noodles with bamboo and duck). Hainam chicken is solid too. Super clean restaurant and friendly service. Glad to have a new restaurant I can get my carvings filled when I miss home.

The chicken was crispy and the dipping sauce gave it that extra yummy goodness. The dish also came with a side of broth that had chicken bits in it, was nice to help digest your dish. I also loved that they gave you pickled veggies & fresh veggies. We also ordered the Loi's Fusion Saltado, upgraded the rice to garlic egg fried rice. The beef was soft and tender, the fries were nice and crispy and the fried rice was fresh. You 100% need to get the Thai Tea. A lot of place add too much cream/half and half diluting the tea flavor, they do not skimp on the actual tea in their drink. The color speaks for itself on the dark orange hue!

I'm a bit late getting around to writing this, and unfortunately, they are already closed, but I still felt like I had to share my experience. I'm not completely surprised that they closed, especially after trying their bò né. I've had this dish many times at different places around Orange County, and unfortunately, this was probably the weakest version I've come across. The first thing that stood out was the presentation. As you can see in the picture, there was this purple-colored sauce on the meat itself, which honestly did not look very appetizing. To make things worse, the sauce was cold and did not heat in time with the skillet, which really took away from the experience. The flavor itself wasn't terrible, but it also wasn't anything memorable. It was just okay, and when you factor in the cold food and the presentation, it made the whole dish disappointing. With so many places around Orange County serving bò né at a much higher level, I would probably recommend spending your money elsewhere. If you were wondering whether you missed out on some hidden gem, don't worry, you didn't. This one felt more like a piece of coal than a diamond. That being said, every restaurant has its journey, and with more time, maybe they could have found their footing. Hopefully, they can take this experience as a lesson, refine their recipes, and bring something better in their next venture. I am rooting for you Loi!

The servers are also super friendly and attentive, which definitely helps make the experience better. Just know that this restaurant is BUSY. Do not come expecting a quiet, slow-paced meal. The food comes out quickly, the place is loud because it's packed, and you can definitely feel the hustle and rush. But honestly? I keep craving the food here, so I brave the crowds and come back anyway. It's THAT good. One thing to note: definitely ask the servers about the menu, but don't feel like you have to order everything they recommend. Our server raved about the coconut prawns, which were $60, and unfortunately, they were not worth it for me. Long wait, loud atmosphere, questionable $60 prawns... but I'd still come back for the seafood.

Be prepared: this place is incredibly popular, especially during peak hours. Parking can definitely be challenging because of how busy it is. The last time I visited on a Monday, the lot was completely full, and I ended up parking on the street. The restaurant is also primarily cash only, so come prepared. They open early, making it a perfect breakfast spot for an early bowl of pho. The pho broth is exactly what I want when I'm craving comfort food--clean, flavorful, and incredibly soothing. However, the star of the meal for me was the chả giò. Wow. Although they arrived after our pho, they came out at the perfect temperature. I was hesitant to take a bite right away because freshly fried food usually burns my mouth, but these were just right. Crispy, airy, savory, and absolutely delicious. Paired with their fish sauce, it was perfection. I enjoyed the egg rolls so much that next time I'm definitely ordering the egg roll vermicelli bowl. Service was friendly and prompt despite how busy it was, and it's clear the staff works hard to keep things moving. One thing I love is seeing all of the awards and accolades displayed on the walls. Phở 79 received the prestigious James Beard America's Classics Award, and it's easy to understand why after one meal here. This restaurant is truly an Orange County icon. The restaurant will soon be moving to a new location, as signs throughout the restaurant announce the upcoming move.
